Temper: A Vampire Romance

Rate this book
This is book 6 in the 8-part Terraway series, which is based in Filipino folklore.

Being pregnant wasn’t in October’s plans, but being a pregnant virgin is just one more sacrifice along her journey. With Von gone and Captain Finn stepping up, reaping is the only thing October can do to take her mind off of things. Even her dream life starts to twist with a little too much darkness and begins to bleed into reality. October isn’t sure who she can trust, or how to protect herself and her baby from the Matruculan in her bed, the Kataw in her life, and the vampire in her heart.

Well, finally the characters in the book figured out something us the readers have known for several books already! I am getting a bit frustrated with the unnecessary drama of love-get-scared-and-run-then-rinse-and-repeat relationship that is the mess between Von and October. It is another one of those things obvious to all of us, fictional and real, that the dude is just not good for her, but there is a lot to be said about the power of sexual attraction, don't we know it. We have all gone stupid over it at one point in our lives. Let's see what is in store for October going forward...

As per usual, I became a crazy person mumbling out loud as I fought with the characters and tried to push them the direction they needed to go. And then practically fall apart as the storyline pulls on my heart strings.
Basically, you can't help but love the characters. You form an attachment that leaves you hurting with them.
Maybe, you'll become a little confused by your love for Von and Finn like October, and myself.
You'll be shocked and hurt with Mason and Ezera. You might cry with October and continuously wonder how one person can take so much pain. So much suffering. So much loss. But one thing I'm certain of, you'll keep coming back for more! Especially if you're still holding out for a happy ending that seems to be less and less of a possibility! I love this series!!

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was my favorite book so far in the Terraway series. October's character has gotten deeper the farther in we get, and she is becoming a heroine worth rooting for. I love the relationship she has with Finn and Von, as well as her brothers and Mariang. The way she handles pregnancy is also fun to see, as she grows from being terrified to protective and motherly. I look forward to the end of the series as it's ramping up for one big show-down.

I’m sick of pining for Von

Dude I know this series is a vampire romance, but the freaking vampire is no one I want near October. Finn so far is the best out of them all, the most devoted, the most amazing. That’s right October gets to know Finn really really well. This whole book is spent pining for Von, throwing Finn to the side, pining over Von. Von who can’t mature, who tried to bang her friend after she explicitly asked him not to. Then dude comes waltzing back in and she just accepts it. Accepts him, barely makes him grovel, barely acknowledges the issues or have deep conversations with him. No he just proposes to her over and over and over. I don’t like him not one bit. At least Mason has redeemed himself somewhat. But this isn’t very reverse harem to have her professing monogamy and being devoted to one dude even leading up to the series. Like a harem happens way more at the beginning, not the end of the series. Honestly I’m bored. I’m sick of pining after Von and him continually letting me down, I’m sick of October allowing him to waltz back and just accept him at face value. I think she’s given him plenty enough chances and it was really silly to put any stock in him.

Now, in this book the bread crumbs happen and everyone starts to realize what’s going on, later in the book we figure out how this happened but I knew all along how this plot was going to go especially when Philip first showed up and with Von being flaky.

This book was the one that took me the longest to get through but I am still stupidly interested and will probably get annoyed next book, unless Finn takes up. Then maybe not. And Von sits in the doghouse for like a year.

I always knew I hated Von ever since book 5, and I hated even more that she couldn’t find it in herself to love Finn. This book has grabbed me in ways that I never expected and I love every twist and turn. I want to be mad at October that she is giving up a perfectly good guy for trash, but I guess after being surrounded by it all her life, she can’t help it. However as much as I wanted to stop reading after (spoiler) she accepted Von even though he walked out on her while she was pregnant I couldn’t. I’m glad I didn’t because there is no way in book 7 that she will take him back, no matter what abra cadabra tricks he pulled.

Now for a Von rant. I first started hating the bloke after he ruined her special place (bedroom) the one place that was keeping her safe, the one even her shitty friends didn’t even trespass, by bringing her TRASH ASS ‘FRIEND’ into HER room. That’s all kinds of disrespectful, and don’t even get me started on how he talked about her insecurities like they were nothing in front of her terrible friends. Then when he left her it was icing on the cake, especially since perfect Finn vowed to stay with her even when she was having another (spoillleerer) mans child. I hated every scene with Von in it when he came back and when he (major spoiler) proposed I nearly barfed at how she was willing to let him in. My inner feminist raged but I persevered. Now that he’s left for The WhoKnowsHowMany time, hopefully she will see reason and finALLY get with Finn.

On another note, this doesn’t seem as reverse haremy as I expected. Now I definitely don’t want Von in her harem as you can tell, but Finn and Prince Lang seem like the perfect candidates. Mason is still written off (tho I can forgive him) after that basement scenario, so we need at least one more person (which leaves me with Sama) although I can’t see that relationship developing within the final 2 books.

Each book in the series keeps getting better and better. October just has so much heartbreak and I want to strangle Von. He has made so many bad mistakes and keeps letting October down when she needs him most. This pregnancy is placing a strong emotional and physical impact on her and she needs all the support she can get. There are many twists again and you are never sure at the end what to expect.

This series really hooks you in and I read each one as soon as I can. The author makes you feel really connected to October and I cry sometimes reading the books. No one should have all the pain and have to stay so strong to support others.

I really like that the characters are multi-dimensional. They have good and bad aspects of their personalities which makes them more real. Characters have really changed during the journey due to extreme loss and pain. You would not have expected Finn to become the man he is evolving into since he fell for October. October has really changed since that first book. She has had to adapt to a totally different life. You definitely get the feeling a lot more changes are in store for her and the others.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

Addictive.

This world is absolutely astounding. Gut-wrenching and real.

You feel every emotion alongside October and Von.

Just when it looks like that have it all going in the right direction - bam something else hits.

I am also feeling stressed that with only 2 books left there is no conclusion anywhere in sight.
The suspense is dreadful. But will also keep me turning pages and reading whole books in a single day.

I love this series. But honestly this girls love life is a complete tragedy. I mean in the past books Mason takes advantage of her and then Von is all off and on. He hurts her all of the time and even abandons her, but October just forgives him every single time. She's an idiot, tbh, she forgave Von way too fast and at the end he ends up leaving her again. Its ridiculous.

Surprisingly the only one that actually deserves her is Finn and she refused him time and time again. Yes he has a patchy past and did terrible things but most of the things he had to do was because he was forced. What's astounding about Finn though is that he chooses to change and become a better person and he did it for her. He accepted her when she was pregnant by another man. Never questioned it nor cared, he loved her however she came and that was awesome.

Anyways, all this Von drama is kind of putting me off the book series. She should not have forgiven him after he left her pregnant, that's completely utter bullshit. I'm also definitely not interested after she got pregnant, I hate when authors add babies into the mix when they have nothing else interesting to write about. It's stupid, the story was awesome without that baby crap.
Hopefully there's less boy drama involved and more supernatural dangers in the next book because it's a serious buzz kill.

And btw, they all call her childish and immature but she's only 23 and all these grown ass men, all above their 30s, are acting like teenagers. It's even more annoying. Why couldn't she had romantic interests within her age range.

Sorry about the venting but I really needed that. Even with all the things I'm starting to dislike about the books I will continue to finish this series. I'm in too deep already lol
Happy reads everyone!!

Nope. Just NO. This one pissed me off. I struggled with the first book until 3/4 of the way through before finally grasping the story line, actually started enjoying the books until this one. October is a strong but damaged woman due to her horrific childhood. But come on, she’s pregnant and Von -who couldn’t even commit to being a boyfriend - runs off for what, 5 months or more because he can’t face the idea she cheated on him. The same guy who treated her terribly, sleeps with her friends, belittled her to her friends, and then he shows back up and says he’s sorry and that makes it all better?? Seriously???? Finn gets kicked to the curb even though knowing the baby isn’t his, stands by her through it. No, the characters don’t mesh with how they are shown. I could barely finish this one. Anyway, aren’t RH’s supposed to be the girl doesn’t have to choose? And she’s still a virgin? Really? They can have bruises and injuries while dreamwalking yet sex in the dream gets her pregnant but still leaves her a virgin??? This book ruined it. Sorry this was stupid, which is sad because there were some deep moments which were impactful.

I was reading and reading this series, waiting for the characters to, I don't know, grow up? Stop being immature idiots? For the MFC to stop behaving like a teenager with a big chip on the shoulder. It's safe to say nothing like that happened and I hate this books. It's another main character I can't stand and after Anita she takes 2 place in Annoying Female Characters of all times ranking. You would think with so many powerful, adult people some of them would actually behave like adults but nope 🤷‍♀️ all of them were making the stupidest mistakes lol I don't know, for me it seems like the author wanted to be more original than most writers now. 2+ for the effort

Give me von back just to take him away again! I get that it now being common knowledge to everyone in the story that Sama is Philip and may have knocked October up is frightening to them all... But it's also not her fault and von worked so hard to get October to let him back in to run again without even thinking about it or having anything other than September might be samas. This whole mess is crazy! I knew Sama had to be Philip but I never stopped to think about him possibly being the one to impregnate her.

I couldn't get enough of this series!!! Just finished binge reading all 9.

The story was so captivating and the characters were people you honestly felt connected to. It's not often that you really get sucked in the world an author creates like I did for Terraway.

I think my favorite thing about the whole series is that you never know what is going to come around the corner. Surprises left and right. You think you know which way the story is headed and it veers off.

I'm going to miss girl October and all the men. 🥰

Clearly the Universe is not going to give October a break from heartache. The turmoil and emotional upheaval in this episode of the Terraway series continues to bring more grief to October's already turbulent life. The action and drama continuously drive this story forward to who knows what type of a conclusion. This a story that will draw you in and hold you ransom to the very end. GREAT, GREAT READ!!!!!

OK I’m done with this series. I force myself to finish this book, I started skipping in some places. I can’t read anymore, I am done with it.
I feels it’s very immature, has too much drama ,and the plot started out well but it’s gone downhill fast. I just wanna say cry me a river and grow up.

Argh! I don't even know what to say. I didn't like this one too much but at the same time I did... I want to punch several people, but as they are fictional I can't. Also, I'm beginning to wonder if this is a true RH book...I'm not seeing it yet. On to the next one.

Happy Reading!

The Ending...

....wasn’t as tough as I thought it would be when the secret came out. But still....I have to wonder if this person cares for October, or if he’s just using her.

So many logic problems - Completely lost the plot. October has become a wet noodle - no longer has self control. Logic, Timelines, space - Author doesn't care.

I received this as an ARC copy. This has been a really interesting story with folklore that's different than anything I've ever read. I'm definitely a fan, but can we talk about how much Von sucks? He literally ran away and left the pregnant woman he claims to love so much. I feel like he's getting a free pass and October just lets him in so easily and he is the worst. I find his swooping in and being so lovable only to run and run again tiring. I keep wishing for October to leave for a better man, I don't care who that baby belongs to. (*cough* Finn *cough*). While I wish she ends up with Finn, I know it will be the guy who just keeps running away time and time again. First of all it logistically works better and secondly it's just what always happens. Who knows though, maybe I'll be surprised.

But enough about the guys, I liked the progression of the story at this point. It was nice to see characters have more dimensions and I particularly liked the part with Ezra. The pregnancy story line is pretty twisty and although I saw the twist coming it was still interesting and also incredibly weird (in a good way).

Even though this wasn't my favorite book so far in the series and I'm salty about Von being a tool and October not running away with Finn, I'm anxiously awaiting the next in the series.
