I see my other lives, a career in the Marines, those damn hand-written tests in law school, a business consultant, as if they're stories from a book. I see my books as if I lived there, as if I were friends with the characters. All things we remember are behind us, only those we imagine lie before.
I'm not sure which place I prefer, but I don't have to choose. They live together in my mind. My books have some award nominations, they have bestseller tags across multiple countries. I write about justice, honor, and loyalty because that's what I care about. My stories are mostly set within worlds that haven't been, but could be. We have to be ready for when those times come.
No matter where I went, I always had a book with me. Thanks to 21st Century technology, I now have hundreds of books loaded on my phone and always with me. This breakthrough allows me to binge read my favorites. How many books would I have read on deployments had I not had to have a physical book with me? I paced myself so I wouldn't finish too quickly.
We aren't encumbered like that now. I love the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. I have been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, I aspire to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared me to.
Through a bizarre series of events, I ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. I never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. My wife and I get to watch the northern lights from our driveway. Our dog has lots of room to run. And temperatures reach fifty below zero. We have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.
It's all part of the give and take of life. If we didn't have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.
REALLY ENJOYED THIS SERIES AND HOPEFULLY CRAIG MARTELLE WILL HAVE A SPIN-OFF SERIES
Just like everything I have read that Craig Martelle has written is very well put together, action-packed, the characters are very well developed, and you will find yourself hooked from the first page of the first book to the conclusion in the final book. This is a very enjoyable series, and you will find yourself unable to put them down once you start reading. You will find yourself routing for the characters and saddened when someone is written out. If you are new to Craig Martelle's works, you really find that each story is really entertaining, funny at times, intriguing, suspenseful, and even mind-blowing at times.
This series has to be one of my favorite ones Craig has completed. I truly hope you will also enjoy the STARSHIP LOST series as much as I do.
If you enjoy science fiction that will have you laughing your head off, check out Craig and Scott Moon's DARKLANDING series.
Wrapping up four disparate story arcs after that last cliffhanger ending must have been a challenge, but you pulled it off! Love the resolution between Borwin and Malibor - is there more to come with respect to the mysterious alien technology? I certainly hope so! Thanks for a great read!
So enjoyed this entire series, and I wonder if there might be more to come? Read on because you’ll want to see Deena leading and Bec doing crazy Bec things.
About so much fluff. I didn't manage to read all of this last book. So much pettiness, so much that simply is not credible.... Denna just declaring herself present! Really?
Anyway, I couldn't stomach the constant childish bickering, for me all that is just a way for the writer to meet the word count demands. This story could easily have been told in two books and the only reason I stayed with seven is because I have Unlimited reading with Amazon, basically free reading, and I have lots of time for reading, so I can afford wasting some time on a series I didn't enjoy. Otherwise I would never have spent my money and valuable reading time on books such as this.
Craig Martelle is truly one of the great writers in Science Fiction!
From book 1 thru # 6. He can keep me reading when body is screaming for sleep. This series has something for every one, fast paced battles, intrigue with egotistical genus engineers, keeping the ship performing , even though it's over 50 years since the keep was laid. The Captain that knew each name of the lowest seamen. Fantastic
After 50 years in space, the Borwyn dream of returning to their home planet has a chance of becoming reality. Through the steadfast perseverance of the captain, Jaq, and her "family", they see the end in sight. They just few to convince the Malibor that they have lost the war.
Quite a satisfactory conclusion to the saga. Bec's antics were unexpected but definitely crucial to their goal of taking back their home planet.
Some harrowing moments with Brad in the Space Station. And an interesting new path for Max and especially Deena. I do hope Jaq gets to have a good "shore break" too.
