Coleman Creek Christmas #1

Christmas Chemistry

Rate this book
Two friends with an attraction that’s ready to ignite.
A small town with big holiday energy.
‘Tis the season…for sparks to fly.

Marley
Between my kitschy wardrobe, sentimental decorations, and overflowing to-do list, I can’t wait for Christmas. Maybe it’s basic to love the holidays this much, but hey—I never claimed to be exciting.

Making the tinsel even brighter is my new friend, James. Ever since the sexy city boy came to Coleman Creek, his not from around here vibe has captured my attention. Too bad Mid-Marley isn’t the type of girl to hold his interest.

Still, I’m sensing we could have some serious fun together. If only for the season.

James
Coleman Creek is starting to feel like home. Folks are kind—something I’ve needed after a string of setbacks—and I love my new teaching career.

Then there’s Marley. She’s making my holidays merry for the first time in years. Our connection is intense, but so are the walls I’ve built around my heart. Between budget problems at school and my dreaded upcoming high school reunion, it’s probably best to keep things platonic, right?

I’m just not sure I can hold back—especially when a weekend away forces us to share a bed.

Christmas Chemistry is a cozy, emotional friends-to-lovers small town holiday romance with open-door spice. A regular girl and a regular guy find their extraordinary HEA. It’s full of conspiring colleagues, sarcastic students, hideous holiday sweaters and two delightful doggos.

Content prior death of a parent, childhood bullying, disordered eating, and body insecurity.

Rory London is a writer of contemporary romance who lives in the delightfully gray Pacific Northwest. Rory is way too into football and holidays, and would write a lot more if there weren't so many books to read. When not engaged in something book-related, Rory is likely drinking large quantities of coffee or diet soda, and taking long walks around the neighborhood dreaming up more HEAs.

Other interests include outdoorsy things—as long as there is a real bathroom nearby, and indoorsy things—especially the kind that include good friends hanging out.

Rory lives with two other humans who bring laughter and joy into each and every day, as well as the world’s most lovable dog, and three cats who are secretly plotting their revenge.

I love books with friends to lovers, and this book was no exception. This story is told in a small town where our two protagonists are friends and he, for his part, is alone on vacation despite the fact that it feels like "home" in this town.

He is a little nervous because he has a high school meeting, and without forgetting that this book has the cliché of a bed.

Honestly, I liked it because it's just what I love about these stories that are entertaining, short and have happy endings.

We can also see many fears in the protagonists in which we can feel identified with them and also connect with the character.

If you like short stories and are looking for something to read for Christmas, this is the book you may be looking for.

Thanks to the author for sending me an arc of her book.

Afraid to Take a Step Forward . . .

Two friends are attracted to each other, and instead of making it known or having a discussion to find out how the other feels, they allow their insecurities and doubts about worthiness to keep them apart. Marley and James enjoy their friendship. Will one of them make a tentative move to give a relationship a fair chance? Or will they both remain lonely and live off their wishes instead of reaching out and finding love?

3.5 ⭐️ really loved some parts but a couple of scenes brought my rating down. i wished their relationship stayed cute and adult-y and a little less “tacky” towards the end. but overall a great and easy read to get into a christmas mood! loved the writing style also 🫶

This book got me in the mood for Christmas.

I picked it up knowing I'd get a Hallmark-esque "he falls first" romance with an HEA. It did not disappoint. James's high-school trauma is relatable, and his story arc is especially rewarding for anyone who struggled with high-school cliques.

Though I'm not usually a fan of small-town stories, I found myself falling in love with Coleman Creek and its residents. I'm looking forward to sequels about both sisters!

The real clincher for that fifth star was that this book moved me to literal tears. I did not anticipate the route to the HEA, and when it came it left me weeping and pondering my priorities. So much of life is a rat race of doing and wanting, and this book allows us to embrace just being and doing what makes us happy.

Another amazing book from Rory!!

Christmas Chemistry is a friends-to-lovers, small town, slow-burn, he falls first, Christmas-themed, quirky girl gets her hunk romance. But it's so much more than that. It's about two people who think the world of each other but need help seeing their own self-worth.

Marley is a teacher at the local high school. She has an absolute heart of gold and is a ray of sunshine to all. She also has a crazy love of Christmas. James is the new hunky teacher with a sexy Dad bod. Having moved from a big city to a small town, Marley is there for him, and they have formed a solid friendship. They navigate the holiday season together, helping each other along the way.

These two both have some issues they need to work through, but they lean on each other so well. The book deals with issues of body positivity and self-perception.

I absolutely fell in love with these characters, James is such a giant teddy bear. He struggles with feeling inadequate, but can Marley show him just how sexy she thinks he is? Marley is always putting others first and lifting them up, but can James show her he puts her first? I loved how Marley was just so her. The Christmas sweaters made me laugh. The supporting characters and dogs were great bonuses.

The characters had amazing chemistry, and when they finally come together, it is S-T-E-A-M-Y. And after I cried super happy tears, we got the best HEA ever!!!! I'm so sad the book is over. I'll be re-reading parts for a while 😉.

This sums up the book for me.

"James and I fit together. Faults and shortcomings and imperfections and all. Because we gave each other what we needed,"

In summary. READ IT!!! This is my favorite Christmas book this season so far. It has such depth but also gives you great warm and fuzzy holiday vibes.

I can't wait for Will's story!! Please tell me Leo and Miranda also get stories after Will and Maureen.

Some other favorite quotes:

James to Marley:

"Marley, you have to know by now -... I'd do anything for you."

"You are a lot of things, Marley. 'Ordinary' is not one of them."

"Just being you and letting me be in your life-it's enough. Enough to make a difference. "

Marley to James:

"But having you next to me made it easier... I want to make [it ] a little easier and better for you. Not just out of kindness. But because I'm proud to stand next to you."

This book is like a just-baked gingerbread cookie: warm, sweet, comforting, Christmasy, and a little spicy. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a fun romance book that will get you in the holiday spirit. It’s perfect to take on the plane on your way to visit your family this Christmas. It’s a fast read and you’ll probably finish it by the time you land.
I really loved the characters. Marley and James were like two friends you are desperately hoping will finally get together because you know they’d make the cutest couple.
The Christmas parts were delightful and gave me those fuzzy holiday feelings. I loved all the other background characters too. The other teachers and students at the school where Marley and James teach, and all their friends and families are all so well written and you’ll wish you lived in a town just like this.

I was really cheering for Marley and James and you will too.

First thing before starting this book make yourself a nice hot chocolate and a few cookies and settle down to get in the christmas mood. Everything about this book just screams Christmas, even given the fact he falls first I think deep down Marley knew her feelings just didn't accept them for what they were. James being the new teacher in the school felt he had alot to prove to fit in, his self confidence and self image wasn't what everybody else saw but his ex wife had really made her mark. Then when the invite to his high-school reunion kept appearing the pressure was really on him. When Marley says she'll go with him could it be the answer. Then could it also be what the two need to admit how they feel. Like I've already said this is a perfect Christmas feel good book that keeps you entertained from the start with the added bonus of a few well meaning characters and two super friendly dogs add plenty of decorations and twinkling lights. I received this as an ARC copy and this is my own opinion and review of the book I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I have.

This book puts me right in the mood for the Christmas season!

Rory London does a great job of weaving different conflicts and plot points together seamlessly. The characters are sweet and adorable, I can’t help but root for them. And based on the ending, it seems like we will be seeing the secondary characters again soon, maybe?

Well written, enjoyable, funny, and cute. Perfect for those seeking a cozy romance full of warmth, growth, and lovable characters!

🎄 Christmas Chemistry by Rory London 🎄

Memorable Moments/Ideas:
✨ D&D Sponsor
🎄 Talent Shows
✨ Faculty Meetings
🎄 Juggling
✨ High School Reunions

This wasn’t a book I planned on reading, but after being home sick and finishing some other holiday reads, I figured, why not? After reading the blurb, I was hooked. Teachers! Holiday? Friends to lovers? Small town? Yes.

AFTER reading — holy moly. I went into this book anticipating a happy go lucky Christmas romance story reminiscent of a Hallmark or Netflix holiday movie. I was wrong. So, so wrong. This storyline has more depth and intensity than most other books I’ve read this month.

Insecurity? Loss? Therapy? Support? Moving on? Closure?
This is a holiday themed therapy book, and I mean that in all the best ways.

The dual pov helps to see the struggles that both Marley and James endure. And it’s not a typical my job is hard, my family is complicated storyline, which is great to read because it’s real too, but this, this is about bullying, body dysmorphia, and acceptance of death, loss, and denial. The topics are heavy, and London handles them with care and concern, and it was a beautiful, compelling story.

It’s not a typical Christmas read, and it was exactly the type of book and storyline I didn’t know I needed to read in between some of the other books I’m reading this month. It had a depth and intensity that is lingering with me long after finishing the book.

Spice: 🌶️
Recommend: YES.
Audience: Holiday romance readers. TEACHERS because it’s clear London gets how the educator profession can work and how (sorry) shitty it can be. People who need a storyline where redemption and hope are possible. 💕
Also, PUPPIES 🐶🐶💕

This book was like catching up with friends over the holidays. It's sweet and entertaining and so enjoyable.

You want to sit on the couch, get cozy with some hot chocolate and read all about James and Marley. These two make a cute couple and they were just so likeable and relatable.

They are two friends, both a little insecure about themselves but being supportive and strong for each other. I thought it was super sweet that when they started to see each other in that new romantic light, but they both were reluctant and hesitant to take it to the next level, you just wanted to nudge them along!!!

Spending time together over the holidays they realize that they don't have to be perfect , but they are perfect for each other and fit together so well. Rory's story flows seamlessly that it's over before you want it to be! She also does a great job in portraying body insecurities and it's nice to see just two average people who are in to each other, they could be your friends, your co-workers, the people that live down the street from you.

Small town neighbours and friends are the best! The ones in James and Marley's circle are no different and they are so fun to experience. I can't wait to read their stories too! They made me smile and laugh and they just wanted what was best for these two main characters. They could see right away that James and Marley were more than just co-workers and friends, even if they couldn't themselves.

I really enjoyed this small town friends to lovers holiday story and its a great read to get your Christmas spirit flowing. It's book 1 in the Coleman Creek Christmas so I am super excited to see where we go from here!

Big thanks to Rory for letting me read her wonderful story

Review :

This book was well written. It might be a weird compliment, but I liked the way it was written. As a wanna be author, I love to analyze the written style of authors and I loved how this book was written.

For a short book (around 250 pages), the story was well laid out! This was like a Hallmark movie (I’m saying this as a compliment!) but better. You didn’t have the extra drama, it was simply 2 friends, with a tiny bit of trauma, falling in love during Christmas.

The characters were well written and complex. They weren’t perfect or insanely hot, they were both normal people to whom you could relate, and they felt almost real. They both had insecurities and flaws and you rooted for them to be together so hard!

The fluidity of the book made me love it even more. I loved that I never wondered where I was or how did the story get here, it was always well explained.

This book was very easy to understand, I could just shut my brain and read and I felt transported into another universe. A universe of love and Christmas magic!

As a big Christmas lover, I loved this Christmas book!! You FELT the magic, I could almost see the lights and the snow! I’m not in Canada right now, and I miss Christmas, but this book made me feel a little bit more at home. 💗

This book follows the story of James and Marley, two teachers and friends who secretly have feelings for each other 👀 the tension between these two is so great that everyone notices it... of course, except them hahahaha

First of all I want to say that Marley from now on is my spirit animal hahaha I love her, she´s so pretty and cute, and direct, I want to be like her.

On the other hand, let's talk about James, he´s the first male protagonist I have read who has insecurities and reading that and all the things he went through makes me want to hug him and never let him go again.

I fell in love with both and I really want to read the next book!!

✔️holiday romance
✔️friends to lovers
✔️small town
✔️only one bed
✔️he falls first
✔️no 3rd act breakup

This is a super cute friends to lovers holiday novel. While I didn’t always connect with the FMC and the way she handled things, overall this is a cute lower angst story about friendship, love, insecurities, and dealing with grief around the holidays.

While there are some aspects to the story that readers might find cheesy (I’m looking at you, grand gesture) I thought overall it was endearing and not cringy. I enjoyed that this couple could exist in real life, and their problems are real problems that so many people deal with on a daily basis. The cast of supporting characters also contribute to the world building of this small town in a positive way. I was a little nervous when the FMC’s ex came back into the picture, but I love that the author didn’t make her do something totally out of character like sneak around, she was always honest with the MMC about her ex (even before they were “official”). It was nice watching the main characters handle their issues like adults and communicate once they felt comfortable enough with each other to do so. The spice is also really well done, both the way the spice itself is written and watching the progression of the MCs intimacy as their relationship evolves.

A perfect Christmas romance!

This book is like catching up with a close friend from high school you haven't seen in years, but after a few minutes it's as if no time has gone by and now you're swapping sweet, lovely, dating stories. There's no billionaire CEO or perfectly chiseled hockey player to swoon over. If that's what you're looking for, then this isn't your book. This is a sweet, small town story about some oblivious teachers who have nothing but heart-eyes for each other but can't seem to see what's so obvious to everyone else. Marley and James are very, very relatable and easy to cheer for as they journey toward finding each other. They could be my friends or family and I love them even more because they feel real.

This book has Rory London's usual humor and wit! You'll be giggling along as you sink into this cozy Christmas romance. I suggest making a cup of hot cocoa to enjoy while reading.

Disclaimer, I know the author, but that doesn't take anything away from my review. Every word would be the same even if I didn't know her.

📝Synopsis 📝
Two teachers who work together, build a friendship, and are struggling with their personal insecurities fall into the Christmas Spirit and Love ❤️🎄❤️

💭My Thoughts 💭
The teacher in me loved this setting and theme! This was a cozy and fast read! Small town romance, and he falls first! Marley is dealing with grief and a bad breakup. James is your Jason Mamoa lookalike in a new town, landing a new teaching job, and falls strong for the girl. He struggles to get to her since he too is still struggling with a bad breakup and so many insecurities due to a past he just can’t escape. All characters were extremely likeable and I’m a sucker for the addition of dogs! This was such a cute & spicy book to get me into the holiday mood ❤️🎄❤️

I love the setting. The teacher in me can’t escape the classroom. I love the interactions with staff and students alike. Put that school in small town, where everyone looks out for one another and I’m all set!
I enjoyed the insecurities and imperfections of both the main characters. A seemingly flawed character, who is truly just realistic, helps me immerse into the story nicely. While I never wish it on anyone it was a nice switch to see that the self-doubt and poor body image was portrayed in the male for a change. And that Marley was so accepting and understanding was a real bonus.
While I loved the approach that James took towards the bullying that was happening I felt that more could have been said about this matter. I know it was not the focus of the story, but a little more discussion would have been beneficial.
This story really got me into the holiday mood. Decorations, parties, Christmas fundraisers, and maybe a Christmas miracle all worked together to make me smile while I read this book.

- Christmas romance
- Friends to lovers
- Slow burn
- Acceptance

What an adorable story! It was so refreshing having a MMC that was not total fitness perfection. He had a lot of insecurities about himself that made him that more endearing.

James and Marley teach at the same high school. They have become fast friends, but secretly they both feel more. They each have their own baggage that keeps them from expressing their feelings. However, when Marley convinces James to go to his high school reunion (which he is dreading), James realizes how much Marley means to him. Will Marley's issues with thinking she isn't enough keep her from taking a chance on love?

Like a warm hug... I wanted to reach through the book and befriend both James and Marley. Such a sweet and tender story!.

A charming, cozy, feel-good book.

The book is well-paced, and paints a heartwarming picture of the small-town charm. The everyone-knows-everyone-else trope plays a wonderful part in the story. The city mouse trying to fit in and ending up falling in love, both with the town and the woman of his dreams, is endearing.

The story treats the subjects of bullying and body image issues with gravitas.

The characters are well-written and the dialogues flow naturally.

The christmas spirit and essence of high-school vibes are captured well across the pages of this quick read.

The ending is sweet, cheerful and borderline-cheesy, but in a heartwarming way.

Overall, a good read.

This was such a sweet and wholesome read! This touched on some emotional topics that were so relatable for me: Death of a parent, bullying in high school, and body dysmorphia. I was rooting so hard for James and Marley to heal their past and create their future.

🖤 Will this hurt your feels? No, this was sweet as candy.
There are underlying emotional topics though! Check TW
🖤 Spice: This does have light spice, but it's not explicit explicit. Very simple spice for those wanting a Christmas read without too much spice.
🖤Category: One Bed Trope, small town, friends to lovers, teachers
🖤 would I recommend: For those looking for a holiday wholesome read! I paired in my Holiday line up between heavier reads!

It was a very sweet and nice book. It felt very real. I liked that both characters had insecurities and fears that looked realistic, especially the part about male protagonist being insecure about his body.

I loved how carefully everything was crafted in the book and how characters always tried to have an open communication. Their relationship felt mature even though they had their fuck ups.

I believed this story and in the love written here.

It is a perfect Christmas book. It is funny, warm and a bit corny.

But omfg the part with singing and slide-shows? My personal hell. I knew that fmc would fell in love with that. Me on the other hand…I was dying inside.

Nonetheless a very good book!

Yet another amazing arc I was given the opportunity to read! Rory London is an amazing author who I've been following since my journey first began on Bookstagram. When I saw the sign ups for her ARC, I knew I had to jump on it, and I'm sure glad I did. Christmas Chemistry was such a cute little Christmas romcom that tied in relatable, real-life issues such as body insecurities, baggage from childhood and relationship problems. Rory London managed to take the beauty of a budding new relationship formed from a wonderful friendship and write a sweet story that held me captivated from beginning to end. Perfect read to get you in the Holiday spirit or since it's now after Christmas, KEEP you in the spirit for a little longer. ❤️

All the Christmas Magic and so much love. I received this ARC for free in exchange for an honest review.

Gosh, when I think of what a good cozy Christmas read should feel like it’s this! This right here!

I will be honest, it did take me a little bit to get into the book. It was a slow burn for me. I am glad I didn’t DNF it though.

James and Marley are teachers in her small hometown. James is new to the school and area and Marley befriends him to show him around and make him feel comfortable. They become instant friends. Both have been through so much in their lives, so is moving forward into something more the right thing to do?

I sobbed at the end. I want a James moment!!

Overall I really liked it!

A cheesy, Christmas-set book which I quite enjoyed. Marley and James are teachers at a small town school. They’ve been friends for a while and get on well. But both are harbouring feelings for the other and soon those feelings start to show. But they both have issues. James has body issues and Marley has commitment issues. Will they both sort out their problems and get the happy ending they both deserve? - A spicy, feel-good romance which was a nice read. As usual in these books neither protagonist was without fault, but I enjoyed how the story progressed and both characters realised their worth. I can’t really fault this book.

It's James' first year teaching in Coleman Creek. He's already developed a friendship with Marley, but the more time he spends with her the more he feels like he belongs.

Marley is used to people leaving when the going gets tough. Marley defines herself as "mid" but there is nothing "mid" about the way she celebrates the holidays.

James and Marley's friendship was sweet and watching it develop into more as they enjoy the holiday season together is precious. A fun friends first story.

This book does touch on some emotional and sensitive topics.
