I loved what they had to overcome in this book. It’s a beautiful feisty love story with all the good feels. I discovered Amanda Taylor last year and she’s now one of those writers that I have to read every book she writes. I suggest her books all the time to friends looking for wholesome romance novels with a great story line.
This was good but not great. Little Jack was my favorite character. Patrick’s disappointed me with the whole Mrs. Corbin thing and Harriet was way too emotionally broken. The book start well but then for frustrating for me and then it got sad and almost hopeless. Things got better at the end but this was not a favorite for me.
If you like "Persuasion" you will like this novel (and I only just now realize that perhaps that was the intent, based on the title. *facepalm*).
That being said, neither the story nor the characters are exact copies. It's more like there are shared plot points.
I enjoyed both Harriet and Patrick's personalities, especially when they first became friends and bonded over their life experiences.
However. I did spend a decent amount of time yelling at them for being Idiots. 😆👍🏻
The result was that the payoff at the end was very high, but be ready for a long wait and plenty of "will they/won't they." 🤷🏻♀️
It was well-written, the world and their experiences immersive, and emotionally heart-rending at times. I really enjoyed it (minus the desire to lock them together in a closet so they can just talk about their feelings).

I thought this book was well written. Although I enjoyed to first book in the series I think this book was even better. I liked how Harriet had to let go of her preconceived notions of what her parent’s marriage was like in order to be with the man she loves. I like how you could feel the emotional struggle that both Harriet and Patrick went through as they felt like their love was impossible. I liked how they came together at the end. I also loved the other characters and how they supported Patrick and Harriet as they tried to see if their was a way to be together.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
Imagine if Jane Austen's Persuasion happened on an abbreviated timeline. That's this book. Lots of longing glances and unspoken feelings. And me trying not to bang my head against the wall because maybe if they just actually talked to each other they could figure it out! But I felt so deeply for Hattie and her desire not to be abandoned again. Patrick...is a piece of work. You can't just marry someone else to escape your feelings, sir. Thankfully Mrs. Corbyn straightened him out. I hope she gets her own happy ending sometime soon. And I might need a beach trip to just watch the ocean after reading so much about it.
Harriet has known loss, her mother's death, and melancholy were not easy. Her father's Admiriralty in the Royal Navy always took him away from his family. Hattie is determined to stay away from men in the Navy when looking for a husband. I love a story set by the sea. My favorite character was Jack, a four year old and his antics.
This book was good! My first from this author. It had plenty of dynamic characters, and good plot development. I do wish it had a bit more of the personal relationship development/banter/connection, but we were still kept busy with a fast moving plot. 4 means I’m not mad I read it, but not likely to re-read!
This was a cute regency romance. Predictable, but sweet. It had a bit of a unique storyline with the Navy aspect. I felt Hattie was much too stubborn, but Captain Patrick Sloane was a bit too rash in his decision making. No wonder she was caught off guard. I did feel bad for poor Mrs Corbyn but in typical regency romance fashion, things ended well.
Wow, I could not put this book down! This felt like Persuasion but still written beautifully. I absolutely was swooning and felt the vulnerability of Harriet and Patrick’s relationship. I also enjoyed getting to know Harriet’s father, the Whitfields, and Harriet’s cousins.

It was different which is a bit refreshing. Still wanted to slap the h because she is so stubborn. And I am waiting for the day I read a book that doesn't turn out perfectly because of the stupidity of one or both of the main characters. But that isn't why we read books, right? 🤔
I love a good angsty love triangle story. And while I have major issues with someone feeling obligated one person while in love with another, I realize it was different in the days of dowries and gentlemen sea captains. It was a fun, free listen on the Deseret Bookshelf app.
With quite a bit of Persuasion vibes while still being wholly unique this novel is engaging and dramatic with well developed characters that you fall in love with.
I listened to this one on Deseret Bookshelf and I loved it so much. I loved how much Harriet's character learned and grew and changed. I will probably reread this one because I enjoyed it so much!
This was a good story. Most romances are pretty predictable, but this one had me a little worried towards the end. I liked the historical fiction aspect. I love learning about history.
