Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts #1

A Winter at the White Queen

Rate this book
In the world of the wealthy, things are never quite as they appear.

Ellie Hastings is tired of playing social gatekeeper—and poor-relation companion—to her Gibson Girl of a cousin. But her aunt insists Ellie lift her nose out of her detective novel long enough to help gauge the eligibility of bachelors during the winter social season at Florida’s Hotel Belleview. She finds plenty that’s mysterious about the suave, aloof Philadelphia inventor, Lewis Thornton. Why does he keep sneaking around the hotel? Does he have a secret sweetheart? And what is his connection to the evasive Mr. Gaspachi, slated to perform at Washington’s Birthday Ball?

Ellie’s comical sleuthing ought to put Lewis out, but the diffident way her family treats her smashes a hole in his normal reserve. When Florence Hastings’s diamond necklace goes missing, Ellie’s keen mind threatens to uncover not only Lewis’s secrets, but give him back hope for love.

This was pretty cute! It said it was set in 1910 but if felt a little closer to the 1920s in different regards like their vocabulary and phrases used, but it was still a fun and quick read.

Because this was under 200 pages it did feel rushed and jumpy at times—I would’ve really like some things to been expounded upon. Another 50 or so pages could’ve fixed that I think, but it was still pretty cute albeit cheesy and dramatic a few times. I will definitely be continuing on with the rest of the series because the Gilded age is my favorite historical time period. :)

Get ready for lots of mystery and romance in this first book of the Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts series!

Considering this was a novella, the author did a fantastic job fleshing the characters out. A Winter at the White Queen felt just the right length, and its characters were all very unique, from Ellie, Ada, and her aunt and uncle to Lewis, his niece, and the venerable Mr. Gaspachi.

Ellie's insecurities were also very relatable, and I love that she found her happy ending with Lewis (not without many twists and turns, though!). However, I would have to say that my favorite relationship, though not romantic, is the one that forms between Ellie and Lewis's young niece, Cora. The girl is so very cute; she was what I loved most about the book!

A Winter at the White Queen is a sweet romance set in the Gilded Age of America. I would recommend it to those who love historical fiction, clean romance, and/or novella collections (and beautiful covers!).

I truly enjoyed this book, even though I got a bit lost right toward the end.

The heroine was the right mix of wallflower and intelligent. The hero was brilliant, good-looking,
but had a secret that made that perfection okay.

I especially enjoyed the historical aspects of the book--everything from the train ride to the mammoth Florida resort to the magic of the day--were well-researched and interesting.

The only thing that I didn't like was the heroine's behaviors toward the end--she could have died because of less-than-wise choices she made and her risk-taking wasn't even mentioned. Maybe it's just me, but I like my heroines to be intelligent and bad stuff will happen anyway, but at least she made smart decisions.

I only wish the resort was still there--I want to go, as in this weekend!

I received a complimentary copy as part of Celebrate Lit tours, but the opinions are my own.

I love reading historical fiction set in the Gilded Age so I was excited to learn of a new series focusing on this time period. In this first book of the Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts, author Denise Weimer pens a tale rich with historical detail, providing a snapshot into the lives of society’s elite. Ellie Hastings struggles with issues of trust and self-doubt which impact her decisions and relationships with others, while well-to-do inventor Lewis Thornton tries to break down her protective walls. I loved the inspirational message of viewing our value through God’s love rather than other people or objects. It was fascinating to read about some of the new inventions that occurred at the turn of the last century and to imagine scenes where motor cars and horse-drawn carriages shared the road. I look forward to reading more from this author as well as other books in this new series!

Dorothy Weimer is a new-to-me author. So glad I took a chance on this book. I was initially drawn by the beautiful cover, then the book description. I find historic hotels fascinating and the gilded age is one of my favorite settings.
Ms. Weimer gives her readers an entertaining story filled with humor, witty banter and a sweet romance. The characters are engaging and plot is well-paced. I loved the historical detail provided by the author, allowing readers to escape back in time to an enchanting getaway for the elite. The underlying faith thread was woven seamlessly through the story without being forced, providing some depth to a quick and enjoyable read. I look forward to meeting other new authors in this series that will feature more of America's historic hotels.

This was a super cute and sweet novella! I really liked Ellie and Lewis and the side characters! It was slightly cheesy, but that’s ok for a novella. Sometimes novellas can feel like instalove, but this one didn’t feel that way to me. Overall this was a cute story and I’m looking forward to continuing the series!😊

A Winter At The White Queen by Denise Weimer is a delightful Christian historical novel that I could not put down and read it in just one sitting.
Denise Weimer has created a wonderful set of characters. There were some delightful verbal exchanges between the two lead characters. There is also a charming young girl with whom I fell in love with. A beautiful bond was formed between those who loved the young girl as she was the centre of their world. It is always beautiful to see adults treating children with love and care, recognizing, that though small, they still have abilities to contribute to society. It reminded me of the biblical passage where we are told not to look down on the young (1 Timothy 4: 12).
The action is set in 1910 as the world is teetering on the modern era. Characters bond over new inventions.
There are those who value status above all else. They contrast with those who value people for just who they are, not for what they can do to advance others.
Amateur powers of deduction are used, producing some amusing results at times.
Denise Weimer has once again produced a highly entertaining novel that I really enjoyed.
We see the value of kind hearts and the importance of showing people the love of God through actions. Characters share their faith with those who do not know Jesus.
There is power in prayer. When we feel afraid, we can ask Jesus to take away our fear.
A Winter At The White Queen is a marvelous novel. I always love Denise Weimer’s stories and I can highly recommend this one.

This is an enchanting story from the Gilded Age. Denise Weimer is a new-to-me author, and I thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to read her novel.
Ellie Hastings was a delightful heroine. Relatable, fun, & funny, too.
As the 'poor relation', her job was to investigate potential beaus for her beautiful cousin Ada.

Ellie meets Lewis, and there is an immediate connection between the two.
Lewis has to do a bit of convincing to bring Ellie around, but.... well, I think I'll stop now. I don't want to give all of it away.
This fun story has some unexpected twists and is overall, an enjoyable read.

A Winter at the White Queen was a story that truly took me by surprise. What first caught my attention was this cover! Whoever designed this art deserves a major shoutout. It perfectly embodies one of my favorite scenes, giving a vivid visual to a turning point in the story. I can’t rave about it enough.

The attention to detail for a novella is truly remarkable! Many times the setting doesn’t get the proper attention it deserves, but not so with this story. The setting is almost like a supporting character of sorts, helping to not only spur along the story but also aid with the incredible imagery. I also loved the setting! My mother lives in Pinellas County in Florida and thinking about how it would’ve been like back then, compared to what it is like now, was so enchanting!

The humor and banter throughout is refreshing and perfectly balanced, showing the carefree nature of the characters, as well as lending to the overall laidback beach vibe that is Florida. Everyone blends so well together, even those characters that are curmudgeon in nature, and the pace throughout is perfection.

The Gilded Age glimmers just a bit brighter with this quick read and it is one that I know many will enjoy just as much as I did.

I love it when it takes very little effort to become fully immersed in a story, and that is the case in A Winter at the White Queen. The opening scene is charming, funny, and intriguing. I liked Ellie and Lewis immediately and enjoyed their banter, love of reading, and innate sense of hope throughout the story.

Historical romance is one of my favorite genres. It allows me to travel to faraway places and time periods, and I usually learn something new. It’s fun to experience things of the past, such as seeking suitors, following (or not following) acceptable ‘rules’ and such.

With touches of mystery, history, and sweet romance, this tale is entertaining and inspiring. I loved the interesting characters, and the elements of faith, love, and humor infused in this inventive story. I look forward to reading more in this delightful series.

First Line: Ellie Hastings didn’t need to be as sly as the heroine in her favorite detective novel.

A Winter at the White Queen is a story as beautiful as the cover.
I will confess, I picked this book solely based on its cover. Its gilded opulence radiates and I am happy to say, it is a mirror reflection of the inside.
I picked up on hints of Cinderella as Ellie and Lewis navigated their way through misunderstandings, subterfuge, and broken pasts to find their way to the arms of their “perfect match”. These two really are two peas in a pod as their interests are similar but yet they have their own, individual interests. She finds his work fascinating while he is mesmerized by her love of soothing. (The girl is a mystery breaker after my own heart.)
I will say, Mr. Lewis Thornton defiantly gave me some swoony vibes.
Now, let’s talk about the time and location–what it must have been like to see Florida before it was packed with people; when it was only the beginning of a winter destination. Before tourist traps were larger than life and when the wealthy families of the country went south for the winter, they took their servants as well. The alliteration of the sandy beaches, gulf waves, museums, and gowns placed me right in the middle of a Gilded Age hot spot.
I’m just going to stop there because if I say too much more, I’ll give it all away. PLEASE, do yourself a favor this winter and get a copy of this book. I know it has earned a place on my carefully curated books shelves.

A Winter at the White Queen is written by Denise Weimer. This is book one in the Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts series. I’ve read this author before and I’m impressed with how quickly she draws her readers into the story.

This book is set in 1910. Ellie is charged with helping her aunt and uncle sort out potential suitors for their daughter Ada. Ellie wants to find Ada a suitor so that she can find herself a governess position somewhere. Ellie loves to read and investigate. She feels that she no longer has a chance at love. She struggles with trusting others.

Lewis is mysterious. He meets Ellie and is drawn to her. He’s for some baggage and secrets that he holds back. As their friendship starts to grow they both start to put down the walls they’ve built to keep people out. When a mysterious disappearance presents itself Ellie isn’t sure who she can trust at all.

This was a quick fun historical read. I enjoyed getting to know the characters. The story flows nicely. The characters are well written. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

An orphan from childhood, Ellie Hastings lives with her uncle’s family, who depend on her to ferret out information on potential beaus for her cousin Ada. When she spies on Lewis Thornton during the train ride to Florida, Lewis avoids her attempts to question him about his prospects and activities.

As they reach the resort and circumstances push Lewis and Ellie together, he hopes he’s found a woman he can trust. When secrets emerge and threaten their growing attachment, will he give up on Ellie? Can Ellie ever believe he would prefer her over her cousin?

We all share the desire to be known and accepted. Ellie Hastings has the dubious privilege of checking out the possible beaus for her younger cousin. After all, since she is a young lady with no prospects of a fine match, her aunt and an uncle expect her to be able to find out information without muddying the waters, so to speak. However, Ellie’s keen mind is a treat to read about.

This most enjoyable book takes the reader back to 1910, at the height of the Gilded Age. With plenty of detail, the author opens our eyes to what it was like to live at that time - to not give up hope that true love would prevail.

An early copy of Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts #1 was received through WildHeart Books. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.

Ms. Weimer is a new author to me. I very much look forward to reading more by her! This book started a little slow for me but once I got the characters straight and who belonged to who, I enjoyed this story a lot! Ellie was my kind of woman! She is situated in a world of the wealthy, but she feels like a "poor relation" since her parents are dead and she's been with her wealthy aunt & uncle for years. They don't treat her badly, but they don't treat her as equally as their daughter either. Their daughter, however, was great! I liked her! Ellie likes being a detective of sorts. I loved her spunk! Lewis liked her spunk too, but he's got to be careful since he's wealthy and women have thrown themselves at him many times. He doesn't know what to think of Ellie - she's different than other women he knows. Also, Lewis has different hobbies than most men and he's not sure he can trust Ellie to understand them. His hobbies were so interesting, and I could see why he'd have to have the right woman by his side. Ellie was perfect for him! I also liked that various parts of this story had real people and real settings. It lended authenticity and interest to the story. A truly delightful tale!

This book has a beautiful cover! I was really curious about this story because of the setting and the time period. The book starts out rather entertaining as Miss Ellie tries to figure out a certain gentleman. The book takes the reader on an adventure that is unexpected. I enjoyed some of the dialogue and was interested in the mystery aspect but this was a slow read for me. The first part of the book had me hooked but by middle it was a struggle for me to be totally invested. The historical aspect was interesting and many people will love this book it just wasn't my favorite. It is a pretty short read and if you enjoy history and a twinge of mystery you might love this story! I do look forward to reading more by this author!

I truly enjoy Christian Historical Romance Books and I also like finding new authors. A Winter at the White Queen by Denise Weimer fits both of those categories. The Synposis of the book and also the BEAUTIFUL Cover really drew my interest in the book.

The setting is 1910 Ellie Hastings has been tasked by her Aunt and Uncle to find a Suitor for her Cousin Ava. Ellie is an AVID Reader and she loves a good Mystery, including real-life investigating. The Winter Social is coming up at Florida's Belleview Hotel and Ellie is attending in hopes of finding a Suitor for Ava. Ellie finds something mysterious about Lewis Thornton, an inventor from Philadelphia. Ellie has many questions for and about him and has the opportunity to find out about him when they meet. Lewis and Ellie begin a friendship and Lewis finds himself growing more attracted to Ellie. Lewis and Ellie soon learn that they both have trust issues with people due to baggage. Ellie now has another mystery to solve when a Family Necklace goes missing. Will Ellie and Lewis become more than friends? Will Ellie find a suitor for Ava? Will Ellie be able to help Lewis trust others and love again?

I have to say I was captivated by the storyline from the very first chapter. I myself am an AVID reader, so the fact that Ellie is always reading books was wonderful. I also enjoy the time setting of the 1910 era. Ellie really takes her tasks at hand to find a Suitor for Ava as an honor to her Aunt and Uncle. She knows Ava has chosen one but not one her Aunt and Uncle approve of. Lewis is definitely a WONDERFUL character for the book. I LOVE how he and Ellie are cautious of one another in the beginning. The author has done a GREAT job of connecting the characters and the book flows smoothly. The book is one of Mystery, LOVE, and finding oneself through friendship. GREAT BOOK!

If you want a book that takes you back in time, an era between the Gilded Age and World War I, check out Winter at the White Queen by Denise Weimer.

The story opens with an introduction to Ella Hastings on a mission. Her wealthy aunt charges Ella to find a suitable bachelor for her cousin, Ada. Ellie is a born investigator, so seeking details to provide solutions to challenges of any sort comes naturally.

The story gets interesting when Ella meets Lewis Thornton, a wealthy mechanical engineer. Lewis is not as he appears. He is unlike the wealthy people Ella has encountered most of her life. Together they form a friendship, but miscommunication, mystery, and secrets create havoc.

Events arise that build suspense, cause laughter, and make you wonder. When all hope seems lost, the author takes the reader on a journey filled with many twists and turns. With a bit of magic thrown in for good measure, the story unfolds with one final twist to keep you on your toes.

I must say, I loved every minute of reading this book! If you like historical romance fiction that contains mystery and suspense, this book is for you! I recommend giving A Winter at the White Queen a read. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

A Winter at the White Queen by Denise Weimer is book one of the Romance of the Gilded Age Resorts Series. It is a Christian historical romance set in the time period between the Gilded Age and World War I.

This is the story of Ellie Hastings. Ellie is tasked with finding a husband for her also single cousin, Ada. Their family goes to a luxurious Florida resort for vacation. Ellie
meets handsome and charming Lewis Thornton and begins writing a list of his qualities. A friendship develops and Ellie might just be smitten. However, she wonders if Lewis is hiding some secrets.

The characters are realistic and very entertaining. I was immediately invested in the story and their lives. At times I did not think Ellie made the best choices and cringed, but I still loved her. The setting was magnificent! I loved reading about the resort.

Author Weimar obviously did a vast amount of research on the area and time period. I learned some things, which is a great bonus when reading historical fiction. Her style of writing is just lovely. There are facts to give little tidbits of knowledge, well rounded characters, and timeless life and inspirational lessons. The story contains romance, mystery, danger, and adventure. I loved the twists and turns, too.

I highly recommend this book that lingers in my thoughts still. It was a pleasant getaway to a different time and place for me. I give it a five star rating. A copy was provided by CelebrateLit, but these are my honest words.

A Winter at the White Queen by Denise Weimer is a work of Christian historical fiction. Taking place in Florida, the author shares a story filled with family, secrets, relationships, and sweet romance. As an orphan, Ellie Hastings is taken in by her aunt and uncle. As an adult she finds herself serving as a bit of a chaperone to her Gibson Girl cousin Ada at the Hotel Bellview. Charged with finding out about the suitability of possible suitors for her cousin, Ellie finds herself introduced to Lewis Thorton, a Philadelphia inventor.

As the story progresses, Lewis finds himself captivated by Ellie. Meanwhile, Ellie’s aunt schemes to capture Lewis for her daughter Ada. But Ada has her heart set on another. Lewis sneaks around the hotel keeping secrets. Some of those secrets include a niece who is his ward, a connection to the magician Mr. Gaspachi, slated to perform at Washington’s Birthday Ball, and his friendship with Lewis.

The author does an excellent job of developing the characters, including pieces of history, and a plot line that kept me reading. Moreover, this book begins an excellent series, Romance at the Gilded Age Resorts. So check out this book for yourself. I definitely recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Ellie Hastings is young woman and a poor relation to her father's older brother and his family. Being orphaned, Ellie does not really feel part of the family and it doesn't help that her aunt has made her the detective to find out all she can about a certain Lewis Thornton and if he might be an excellent match for her cousin Ada. Except Ada is in love with someone else.

Ellie just wants to see her cousin happily married so she herself can begin her life, poor as it will be, out from under her aunt and uncle. But what happens when Ellie's traitorous heart shows more of an interest in Lewis than it is supposed too? And what if he seems to show interest back? For practical and determined Ellie this just cannot be.

This was a nice trip to Florida during the winter of 1910, when Gibson hairstyles were all the rage, and all kinds of new ideas were popping up. From recreational swimming for all to cars and even magic shows. Will Ellie find she has more worth than what she has given herself and maybe find that she may be found special with or without a fortune?

I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

This was a delightful story that is set in the time period referred to as the Gilded Age. I loved the way the author describes the era and I adored Ellie. She is such a sweet humble person who doesn’t realize her worth. She is sent on a mission to find a suitor for her cousin. The winter social is sure to bring many bachelors to choose from if Ellie can put her detective books away. I love that Ellie has this knack for investigation. She will soon be putting it to good use.

Lewis is a nice character who has put Ellie on high alert. She doesn’t trust him and thinks maybe he is not suited for her cousin. Lewis seems to disappear a lot so Ellie is determined to find out what he is up to. The story offers laughs, a magician, mystery and a wonderful story that I enjoyed. The interaction between Ellie and Lewis is at times comical. I wonder why Ellie doesn’t realize that maybe just maybe someone is attracted to her and not her cousin. I think her uncle and aunt out a lot of pressure on Ellie to find her cousin a suitor. Poor Ellie needs to see herself as a treasure and not so much as an old maid. Readers will find this story easy to read and entertaining.

A Winter at the White Queen is a wonderful novel. I thought it would be more romance and less mystery but it’s equal parts of each. I very much enjoyed meeting these characters and hope that there will be more of this series!

Ellie is quite the character. She’s a bit like the poor relations but she’s also able to see through other people and knows who is what they seem and who is more of a rake. What she sees in the new man is someone worth pursuing. Should it be someone she pursues or someone she recommends for her cousin? The cousin who is already in love with someone her parents don’t approve of.

For the mystery, we have a charming little girl(she’s not really a mystery but she’s also a bit of one at the beginning) and a magician plus a theft! I seriously loved this book and really hope it’s the first in a series to come. Please grab a copy for your own pleasure reading.

Ellie Hastings has been chosen to investigate suitors for her cousin. If there is anything wrong with them, they are out of the running. Her cousin, Ada, has already made her choice in a suitor, Jesse. But her mother does not approve. Ada asks Ellie to find out if Mr Lewis Thornton already has a girl because that would make him out of the running. Ellie snoops and overhears him talking about a girl so she tells Ada. It’s not enough for Ellie’s aunt and they have to come up with another plan. Lewis helps Jesse and Ada be together by acting as a Chaperone with Ellie. They get to know each other and the girl Lewis has is a ward, his niece Cora. As they spend more time together they let each other know of their secret interests and they support each other.

This was a cute story! I love the time it was set in. I loved the magician birthday party scene. The first half of the book was a little difficult for me to get into/ know exactly what was happening. The last half was really good though. I loved Ellie, Lewis and Cora. Overall a good read and I recommend!

I was really looking forward to this book. It had been on my TBR for a while, so it's a bit disappointing to be only able to give it three stars. In all honesty, it had a lot of good qualities. The problem lay in the fact of the good qualities being "a lot". It was a short book. It only took me between 3-4 hours to read and it had so much going on in so few pages that I didn't feel like anything was really developed as it should have been. There was a whole cast of characters beside the main couple and each one of them had their own story. And both members of the main couple had complex characters that really needed more flushing out. All in all, it needed more narrative than it had in order to really give each storyline the time and depth it deserved.

Furthermore, the main girl got on my nerves a bit. She was a bit too self-deprecating and self-pitying. She gave me strong Jane Eyre vibes, which is not exactly a compliment in my book. But those readers who enjoy Bronte might enjoy her.

Overall, though, the story was good and I enjoyed all of the other characters very much. I just thought it needed more flushing and the main girl needed to get over herself a bit. But if there had been more development then I think that would've worked itself out as well.

What I think you should know:
A Winter at the White Queen by Denise Weimer is the first book in the Romance in the Gilded Age Resorts Series. This book is set in 1910 Florida at an exclusive resort for the wealthy in society. This book features Ellie Hasting who has been tasked with finding a suitor her family will approve of for her younger cousin.

What I think about this book:
Weimer has done a wonderful job of sweeping the reader into what she calls the Age of Wonder. This is a fun story with a good message that things are not always how they appear. I loved getting to know Ellie, and enjoyed her investigative nature. I hated to see how her aunt and uncle treated her as “help” or a poor relation. Lewis was a very mysterious character to to start with, but I enjoyed getting to know him and loved as his secrets were revealed. I appreciate the fun details that the author put into the story, about the cars, the clothes and the inventions. I look forward to more books in the series and more from Weimer.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

I enjoy learning about history and inventions—a fun perk tucked inside a period novel. I was not familiar with the rich spending the winter social season in Florida during the Gilded Age nor the luxurious hotel nicknamed the White Queen. This romantic foray in that setting includes engaging, realistic characters, whose personal struggles add depth and intensity to the fictional account. The scenarios feel authentic and may make readers consider their own attitudes, particularly toward those they consider lower than themselves. In addition to the intriguing adults, the story features the precocious Cora, an endearing little girl and motherless niece of Lewis Thornton, the male lead. Will Ellie Hastings continue to develop a relationship with them after their winter interlude? In addition to their interactions, add the astounding performance of the illustrious magician The Great Gaspachi, who wows the crowd. This short book had lots of elements to contribute to a fine read. Book clubs might like this for variety. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

Although Ellie has found a skill she is good at, it isn’t your typical skill for young ladies. Ellie’s aunt asked her to investigate prospective husband for her cousin as she is able to blend in with the wallflowers. She might live in the life of wealthy, but that doesn’t mean she feels warmth and security from this world. One suitor draws some attention for the wrong reasons and ends up turning Ellie’s life upside down.

The book was a quick read. I enjoyed the humor in the book and it put a smile on my face. I enjoyed the turns the book took as I got closer to the ending. This was my first book by the author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There aren’t many book of this time period written in Florida, which I found intriguing. I found myself researching some during and after the book. I love when an author introduces me to something new like this.

I would recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.

This book hails from The Gilded Age. That's the time after the Civil War and near the 20th century and for this book, it's 1910. Ellie Hastings is a good leading lady for this story. She's got a great balance of strength and weaknesses. Lewis is a worth male lead. Since this is split time, the other half is in Pinellas County, in Florida. The author did a great job of the setting then, and now. In addition to a strong romance with history elements, this book packed a lot of faith filled lessons or reflections in it. Cora, Lewis's niece is a lovely character as well, who really adds to this story. There's a light mystery and the theme of trusting God, praying, and showing people love and Christ run through the story. The end is a bit of a whirlwind, but I'd recommend this book easily.

Thanks to Celebrate Lit for my digital copy of this book. This review is my own and a positive review is never required.

While romance is not my favorite genre, I love reading about the Gilded Age. It’s my favorite time period to learn about. So when I saw this book, I knew I had to read it. And I was not disappointed. The story in the novella moves quickly but smoothly. You get to be able to know and care about the characters as well be drawn into the plotline without the feeling of it being rushed.

Ellie’s story reminds me of Cinderella. She has no parents, forced to live with her aunt and uncle where she does not feel appreciated or loved. When she starts falling for the rich, handsome man, she tells herself she’s not good enough for him because she’s poor and has nothing.

I really did enjoy this novella. Both the plotline and the characters are fun and interesting. If you are looking for a fun, historical romance, I would recommend this one.

I had received a copy of the book as part of the Celebrate Lit Blogging Team and was required to give an honest review.
