She can’t stop the government from scraping thousands of horses from the wild, but she can photo document one herd. Only time is running out.
Children’s ER nurse, Kristi Trevisano’s passions are wild horses and photography. She lives for time on the Nevada range with her camera to create a photo documentary of one herd’s history. The images of the horses’ families and how they lived will preserve their memory for generations. The battle for who gets to use government land, forces Kristi to keep her activities on a need-to-know basis.
Bob Clayton, the CEO of Clayton Industries, knows a thing or two about horses. His rancher father and grandfather were forces behind exterminating wild mustangs in Texas. He sets out to prove to Kristi he’s nothing like his father. But is he?
Kristi’s five-year grant to photo document a wild herd expires soon. The last person she needs involved in her activities is an interfering rancher — even if he makes her heart race and claims he’s only a computer geek.
With conflict on the range raging, will she get the last photos she needs to complete her project?
Kristi and the horses are running out of time.
If you love horses. adventure, and romance you'll love Where the Wild Ones Roam.
Barbara Ellin Fox writes fiction and nonfiction centered around the equestrian world.
Her novels blend adventure, romance, and an authentic portrayal of the horse life, drawing from her vast experience as a lifelong horsewoman.
Her fiction includes clean, wholesome stories, like the For Love & Horses series and Hoof 'n Woof series, which appeal to horse lovers, especially women.
She also runs two blogs: BarbaraEllinFox.com, where she shares writing advice, horse stories, and advocacy for America’s wild horses, and TheRidingInstructor.net, which provides guidance and resources for riding instructors.
This is a riveting novel on so many levels, not the least of which is the romance. I mean, how could any woman resist a totally charming hero like Bob? But Kristi is determined to hold him at bay as she pursues her passion to expose the cruel and inhumane treatment of wild horse herds.
The family dynamics are intensely portrayed—Kristi's family is nurturing and supportive, while Bob struggles to separate himself from his abusive father. As Bob patiently and tenderly displays his devotion to Kristi, ugly secrets will come to light about who exactly is involved in efforts to destroy a particular herd of wild horses.
SPOILER ALERT: Fictional wild horses do come to heartbreaking ends in this story—sadly, just as is happening in real life. But the resolution is fitting for both Kristi and Bob and satisfying to the reader.
This book is a work of fiction, but it’s very authentic, told by someone who’s done terrific research. The term Word Painting comes alive in this story!
Kristi cares about the wild horses but believes all ranchers hate them and want to exteminate them. I admire Bob for his patience as he waits for her to find out what he really thinks.
