Cicadas
Contains 14 original comics by 16 different contributors.
Riley began working on this project a few years ago. The idea was simple: make a comics collection filled with some of his favorite artists and music friends whose work he supports and sell it for a reasonable price at the Power Trip merch table on tour. He made some contacts and got a batch of artists signed on, but the pandemic forced Riley to put the project on hold. And then, unimaginably, he passed away before its completion. We decided to pick up the anthology and finish in a way that Riley hopefully would’ve been proud of, getting the contributor list reassembled and printing the 120 page book in full color. This has taken us nearly three years to get together and is finally available through Lockin' Out Records.
The anthology includes comics from: Anya Davidson, Chris Wilson and Jason Tarpey, Dylan Chadwick, JB Roe and Aubrey Sitterson, Joseph Kelly, Josh Bayer, Josh Simmons, Lale Westvind, Lando, Lane Milburn, Marc Bell, Nick Kucway, Stathis Tsemberlidis, and Stellar Leuna all with cover by Ken Fontaine.

Girl, where were the cicadas ?

A collection of short comics compiled to honor the efforts of the late Riley Gale who had hoped to publish this some time back. The talent in Cicadas is immense, with many of the great contemporary alternative and independent cartoonists contributing some strong features. The stories that stood out most to me were Stathis Tsemberlidis' vibrantly colorful wordless post-apocalyptic story, Josh Bayer's piece which puts the legacy of S. Clay Wilson and the rest of the Zap Collective under the microscope, and Stellar Leuna's hyper-surreal story, "The Collector". But there's no shortage of talent with other big names like Lane Milburn, Anya Davidson, Lale Westvind, Josh Simmons and Marc Bell all contributing some good stories too.

Really glad we picked this one up. Riley had great taste and also such a thoughtful and attentive group of people that loved him. My personal favorite is the contribution by Stellar Leuna. I also enjoyed the one that Jason Tarpey wrote -- I still haven't had a chance to read his stuff but I'm all about his music so I knew it would be good. Happy to have this in our personal collection! Riley Gale Forever.
