Deception cuts deep in the next propulsive novel in #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan’s Torpedo Ink motorcycle club series.
The stranger frequenting Azelie Vargas’s local coffee shop is a sight to behold. He’s tall, dark, muscular, and a complete distraction. She’s worried one look from his striking silver eyes will have her acting a fool. But it’s not a look that sets Azelie aflame—it’s the way he boldly tells her every dark, dirty thing he’d like to do to her. She should be scandalized. Instead, all she wants to do is say yes.
Andrii “Maestro” Federoff is in San Francisco on club business. Torpedo Ink needs information to bust up a human trafficking ring, and Maestro has found his mark. After weeks of stealthy observation, he’s not sure if Azelie is involved directly, or if she’s just working for some bad people. What he does know is that he needs to get close to her fast, and soon he can’t get enough.
What began as a setup quickly turns real. But no matter how hot they burn, Maestro’s betrayal could leave their hearts smoldering in the ashes.…

IN HER WORDS: I've been a writer all of my life -- it is who I am. I write for myself and always have. The ability to create pictures and emotions with words is such a miracle to me. I read everything; I mean everything! All kinds of books, even encyclopedias. I am fascinated by the written word and I love storytellers. It is a great privilege to be counted one myself. Christine Feehan returns with another thrilling book in the paranormal romantic suspense Torpedo Ink series: Betrayal Road. The ninth book in the series features Andrii Federoff, a man who was abused as a child and who doesn’t trust women. He needs information to take down a human trafficking ring and has found his mark. Azelie Vargas reads and writes at a coffee shop when she sees Andrii enter.
The characterization is fantastic as usual in books by this author. Azelie is intelligent, kind-hearted, generous, loves books, speaks her mind, and has an excellent memory. She’s also been through a traumatic experience that affects her. Andrii is a good listener with excellent recall. Music gives him peace as does woodworking. He’s confident and loyal to the few who have his trust. The way they were raised (very different) and their traumatic experiences have shaped their lives. Each goes through a transformation as the story progresses. It was also great to reconnect with characters from previous books. This gave the series continuity and I enjoyed visited with old friends. However, they didn’t play as large a role in this novel as in previous ones.
The story grabbed my attention immediately and kept me engaged as the relationship starts and goes through some ups-and-downs. More of this novel was spent on the relationship and only the last 25 per cent or so had significant action, suspense, and danger. The author continues to have humor embedded into the story line that helps balance the suspense. This novel features betrayal, truth, loyalty, trust, control, communication, child abuse, human trafficking, coercion, death, friendship, romance, communication, and much more. Several spicy and steamy scenes are also included.
Overall, this book has great characterization, several sizzling scenes, and some action. Those who enjoy steamy and romantic suspense novels with a bit of the paranormal and with compelling characters will likely enjoy this book. I have read more than seventy books by this author across multiple series. I’m looking forward to reading my next book by this author.
Berkley Publishing Group and Christine Feehan provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date is currently set for August 20, 2024. ---------------------------------------- My 4.47 rounded to 4 stars review is coming soon.
I still gave it 2.5 stars because I like the series and the characters as a general rule.
This wasn’t the one for me. I found the FMC to be so boring that it bordered on ridiculous. She had been shot 3 times, was apparently this Uber genius, and showed spine and intelligence, except when it came to actually important things. She’s submissive, but being submissive doesn’t mean a push over, which both her and the MMC mention several times, but she literally questions him, he says “I can’t tell you”, and she’s like “Fair enough”. She was betrayed (like the title says) several times, works it out herself, asks him about it, he gives no answers, and she’s like eh, I have to make him happy. The women in all the other books had spine, they stood up for themselves, even when they were more submissive.
The MMC made more sense to me and felt like he made strides, and changed and made decisions that fit his character. She was just horrible. He noted that she didn’t want punishment heard her, and when he felt she deserved one, saw her and changed his mind, he heard what she said. He was open with her about his needs, talked things through with her or gave reasons why he couldn’t. When he wouldn’t discuss though it’s her job to push back or bring it up again later, and she just didn’t.
The story line was interesting, I just didn’t feel like anything she did fit any situation. There were lots of missed opportunities between the MCs for learning and growth. Once again, the subplot was interesting of Torpedo Ink trying to stop the human trafficking, but it was such a small plot point actually, then it was rushed at the end like CF wanted to finish the book and realized she hadn’t done much. I have to wonder what level of editing this had. It felt sloppy.
Also one final small note, all the Torpedo characters were called by their legal names in this book for the most part and it was super confusing since they’re never really called that in other books.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for this early arc copy! This particular installment in the series was quite enjoyable to me. Getting a look at Maestro and how he ticks is something I have wanted for a while with the series, so I enjoyed that a lot. I really liked that Azelie had a backbone, but was willing to let Maestro take the lead because he needed that. This series has a good balance of making sure each couple gets what they need in a healthy way that works for the couples. The more suspenseful element of this story has been a major point in the macro plot for a while, so I am glad that we got some resolution with that. Onto the next part of the plan, and I'm excited to see who's story we get next.
Why three stars? By the third chapter, I thought someone else wrote it as only about 60% of the book read like a Feehan novel. There was a different style and a different way of phrasing situations, like planning how to complete the mission. The way Maestro phrases his speech with Zelie sounds like he just got off a boat and English was his second language. I know he was playing a part, but it was not a smooth read. Maybe it felt off because on the whole, we actually didn't know that much about Maestro. I didn't feel as strong about his emotional turmoil because it wasn't laid out like the other guys. No pounding, tear jerking reaction to the backstory like the others. I cried for these men, except for Maestro. I also thought it had less action and very little interaction with the rest of the club. The fight scene at the end felt rushed and Maestro's part in it was minimal when he should have been the one to finish it. There was one surprise with the bad guy, but its a spoiler, so I can't describe it. The ending didn't leave you with a feeling of joy and enrichment. After it was all over, the Dom didn't dominate, and left Maestro's character flat. He rode his bike once and it was an 883? Even souped up, as was written, it's still and 883 (chick bike in my opinion). An MC romance should have motorcycles. Zelie's character was asking to have role, but it remained hidden in her introvert world and written as a fairy tale. I think she accepted the ending too easily. Big grip is that she didn't get introduced to the club, which is a must in this series because the club is the mortar holding this hole series together. I doubt I'd ever read this one again. Best book in the series so far is split between Reaper and Player's story. If you read this series, you do need to read Betrayal Road to continue on, but three stars I feel guilty about.
I love Christine Feehan's books, but Betrayal Road was the worst of the series. There was no chemistry between the main characters. 80% of the book was torture. I don't want to spoil anything, but I expected to be attracted to the main characters as in the previous parts, but I was very disappointed. They were just boring. I often come back to this series, I have read it from cover to cover, but I will not read this book again.
I normally enjoy Feehan with a tongue in cheek, never taking any of it too seriously, but always being very entertained by it. This is probably my least favorite, and I didn’t even finish Savages story because I felt Seychelle was completely wrong, but I digress. Maestro was unlikable. All the other Torpedo Ink leads have somehow endeared themselves to me no matter how ridiculous ( I’m looking at you Absinthe ). But Maestro was way too pushy, even if Azelie responded to it. The whole “punishment” bit was tired, especially after Savages story, and I’m glad he didn’t punish her when she “fucked up”. The story and dialogue was very redundant, while never really leading anywhere until we got to the finale. Billows was an interesting enough villain with his mood swings and inconsistency, and then Feehan pulls a rabbit out of a hat and makes them triplets, I think I actually guffawed. I will say I liked Azelie, she was sweet and I totally understand a girl her age being completely enamored of a man like Maestro, and at least I know in this world he will be good to her, even if he was not my favorite. Feehan for life, but not the best; when I re read them again I’ll probably skip this one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I’m actually really disappointed in this book. I have absolutely loved each book in the series, but I feel incredibly let down by this one. I don’t think she did Maestro’s character justice, there wasn’t enough action like every other book in the series and the connection between Torpedo Ink that is so instrumental was missing. The brothers and sisters of the club have always been more involved in each story, this one leaves me feeling really upset for some reason. I’m really invested in this series and I feel incredibly worried about the next book in the series and hope it’s better than this one.
Very disappointing addition to the Torpedo Ink series. The story was repetitive and added very little to the Torpedo Ink storyline which is part of the appeal of the series.
Maestro knows what Betrayal is, how it destroys a soul and makes you bitter and judgmental… he has no issue gaining the trust and delivering vigilante karma as betrayal to those who are guilty, to save those being harmed…but this time is different, how does he move forward with a mark who he discovers is not only innocent and knows betrayal herself? How can he change course and still not betray those he's trying to save and stay loyal to those he owes his life.
I love titles that fit the story, it fits a few definitions! Maestro and Azelie’s journey reveals so much of what they have been through, what they chose and how it affects them to this day. Redemption, acceptance, belonging are amazing gifts if you’re able to accept them. To find and accept, to give, loyalty when it’s failed you so many times…This is a story where you love the romance that develops while following these two characters as they overcome the internal obstacles from troubled pasts and insecurities on their way to reaching their happily ever after, not to mention the external threat to them!
Although, I didn’t see growth in TI as a whole, in fact, some seem stagnant or to slide backwards from previous books, I love how some in his TI family show him the way, they don’t judge for his past errors, poor advice and judgment on love. But guide him with support… Alena giving him permission to find a way to be his best, a better man, the way Azelie inspires him to become. Keys sees him, lets him know he deserves this understanding and acceptance in his life, this person to love, and Savage to use as much honesty and communication as he can, don’t let a perfect fit slip away with deception. With his family and team he holds to his tactics but expands his motive to keeping her safe. It’s impressive to see and as a reader my annoyance at these manipulative tactics switched to anxiety and hope for him…masterful storytelling.
As danger from the external conflicts grow, Maestro knows he’ll have to take that full leap to disclose all he needs from her, full honesty and communication… face his deepest fear that she’ll think he’s betrayed her, used her and she’ll betrayal him. He has to have faith in her loyalty and his club’s ability to protect her.
Azelie’s story is heartbreaking and impressive, she’s someone I’d want as a friend! I love how these two characters reflect each other yet also contrast. Just what is needed for an amazing journey to love. She is someone who lifts others up even while facing her own storms. Her determination to protect him and so many from the danger she’s found herself in, yet being open to giving her trust and loyalty to him. Her found family, who give her support and wisdom too. The merry widows and their gentlemen are a great addition to give levity and advance the story and character growth.
With every TI book there’s amazing steamy physical connections, emotional roller-coaster, edge of your seat plot, and hold your breath action…this time I’m throwing in a jaw dropping twist. Woven together in an amazing heartfelt wonderful addition to the series!
Ugh. I don’t even know where to begin with this book. First, some of the other characters didn’t even sound like themselves. Maestro? No. No. No. His dialogue was cringe worthy. His character is a gaslighter, manipulative, lame, and just gross. There was zero chemistry between him and his heroine with a crazy name I don’t know how to spell because I listened to the audiobook whose narrator sucked as well. This was so boring with a lot of cringe worthy dialogue. Quick I love you’s that would give you whiplash. Here’s to hoping the next book will be more like the Feehan books I know.

There are no guarantees in life, zelie. None. No one knows what’s going to happen years from now, bu I believe in commitment and loyalty. loyalty is everything to me. to betray you in that way goes against every code I have
First Impressions Whew this book completely blew me away! This actually be one of my favorites of Feehan and the favorite of this book. I didn't think anything could top Savage Road or Judgement Road for me but this one might take the cake. That is how much I adored this book. It just was perfect in just about every way and It struck a chord of heart and feeling that I completely Feehan to deliver each and every time! I know some readers might be thrown off by the secrets that are involved in this couple, but I absolutely couldn't get enough and she handled this conflict so well. Its what I appreciate about Feehan, she handles conflict in a way that seems real and not overblown in dramatics. It was so smoothly mastered that just reflects her true talent as an author.
I enjoy reading romance. Happy endings. Stories about men and women communicating and forming families. Being faithful to each other.
The Main Protagonists The Hero: Andrii "Maestro" Federoff The Heroine: Azelie Vargas
Summary Betrayal Road is a story that begins with our hero, Maestro, who is working with his club and brothers to bring down a trafficking ring that they have been working on years on bringing down. But they haven't been able to do it ....yet until a piece to the puzzle falls into place, and that piece is Azelie. Azelie works for the head of the ring, as his accountant or at least one of them. Azelie is working hard at her degree, and still recovering from the trauma of losing her family in a brutal attack and barely surviving herself. When she meets Maestro, in a coffee shop, she instantly connects with this man of mystery. She can't understand why he would want to be with her, but she wants to give into her heart when it comes to him. But she is drawn into a game of cat and mouse with her employer and Maestro keeping secrets from her, but learning to trust in him despite the reason that tells her she shouldn't....
That’s how you see me, Azelie. As a man who would break your heart? Not treat you with care and consideration, a treasure like you deserves? Because I know what a treasure you are
What I Loved Betrayal Road is a story that worked for me in every way and I can't tell you how nervous I was with it. Now I shouldn't have been so nervous because its Christine Feehan, and she doesn't have issues with writing conflicts so well and it definitely remained true in Betrayal Road. I appreciated what a complex story she was able to write but yet have the conflict evolve so naturally and have such a smooth transition. There is a major conflict of a big secret. Maestro is having to use Azelie to get to her boss, who is a human trafficker. But Azelie is not who everyone thinks she is. Maestro so determined that this will be another job, can't resist his pull to Azelie or the connection that they have together. He falls SUPER hard for Azelie and it was a pure delight to watch. Throughout the series, this hero has been a bit stubborn about true love existing and causing some problems with previous couples but he definitely feels the sting of cupid's arrow and I was beyond entertained to see it happen.
I would kill for you, but I would never do anything to harm you. You’re my savior. My world. A treasure beyond any price. If things go bad between us, I would move heaven and earth to make them right. I would never, under any circumstances, consider harming you
Another aspect to the story that I really enjoyed was the alpha male/smart yet feminine pairing that we see develop. I really loved Azelie because she has a brain and is smart but she ALSO isn't afraid to embrace her femininity. She wants to be loving and soft and giving to others. We see her growth in learning to truly embrace that part of her, and seeing that it is a TRUE STRENGTH!!! I also valued the brotherhood of the club here and the lady bikers of the group really putting in their two cents and standing for Azelie. I valued how they truly come together and even when they have differing opinions, have such a solid support of each other. This is something that Feehan handles so so well and its so beautifully portrayed in Betrayal Road.
What I Struggled With Honestly....NOTHING!! haha Only thing that would have been better is a extended epilogue of some happy couple time after all the conflicts happening with the plot.
Overall View Betrayal Road is a story that enthralls your attention with sensual romance, edgy plot building and a relationship that will capture your heart and dig deep in a complete cycle of true human intimacy! POWERFULLY GRAVITATING!
You remember who you belong with, Sobyshkuh. I was born to be your man” That meant something to her. Faint color crept under her skin, and her eyes took on a glow. He didn’t wait a moment longer, his palm tightening around her neck when he leanred dow to brush his lips over hers. The earth moved under him. The room spun away. There was nothing but the two of them. He had kissed women. Hundred. Maybe more. A requirement of his training. Since he’d been a free man, kissing was off limits. Kissing was too intimate and he didn’t enjoy it---or want it. Now it was a need. An addiction. An obsession...She was his obsession.

Steamin' up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.
This book is VERY different in tone from the rest of the series. It was disorientating to have them go by their birth names. The relationship was sickly sweet and way too focused on their insecurities. I don’t think this is written by the same person who wrote the other books in this series. While I appreciated that they didn’t go into the usual very graphic details of abuse I kind of missed the camaraderie and action of the motorcycle club. I don’t think they even rode his bike together. It felt slow paced and I wanted to give up at about 75%. This book feels out of place in comparison to the other series. Also what’s up with the Feehan universe and the elderly. Does every one of her series have groups of spunky elders running around? That specific trope is getting way too obvious.
Maestro is working his next case which is taken him to a local Cafe. He hopes to get sone information from one of the customers. This book captured my attention from the start.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this advanced copy from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I've been reading Christine Feehan since high school and these days it's mostly for the zaniness she concocts in each book. The characters in her Torpedo Ink series are absolutely wildin'. They have weird kinks and even psychic powers where they can communicate on a huge mental powerline. These books aren't meant to be realistic but rather a fun form of escapism. At least that's what I've surmised nine books deep into this franchise. Betrayal Road was thankfully one of the more palatable entries in this series without too many wackadoodle moments. The worst I had to endure was the cringy dialogue and breakneck pace of Maestro's unconventional courtship of Azelie.
Betrayal Road focused on Azelie and Maestro, probably the tamest couple in the entire collection. The heroine was the embodiment of Princess Mia Thermopolis before her transformation: big curly brown hair, glasses, and very good at being invisible. She sounded really cute considering how often the hero was panting over her in every scene. Their dialogue had me cringing pretty hard, but at least it was well intentioned? I liked their dynamic, but honestly the drama and side plot took a higher precedence than the actual romance in Betrayal Road. I wished we could have gotten more scenes of these two in love instead of some smarmy businessman who trafficked women. Read the room, Feehan!
Betrayal Road may not have been my favorite book in the Torpedo Ink series, but it certainly ranks near the top. Azelie and Maestro were a sweet couple who seem far better suited than their fellow MC members that need an appointment with a marriage counselor toot sweet. I'll keep reading this series because it's a hoot and a half. I love turning my brain off and seeing how these wacky motorcycle men convince normal women to fall in love with them. I wouldn't touch those dudes with a 20 foot pole, but I sure love to watch!
A bit disappointing tbh… i was expecting somebody similar to Seychelle or something with a ‘knowing’ through touch as partners or mate either are similar or complement each other.
This one was just an insta love with innocence sprinkled in and honestly very much done and repetitive. For someone who is up to date with her books on all series, this one just gets old.
I started my night with a bottle of wine a bag of crisps in my living room ready for my quiet night with my favorite writer or so I hoped. 2 hours later I’ve never been so bored in my life even though I kept reading and saying it’s going to pick up soon it sorry to say it didn’t.
I love this author, she has always been my favorite but this book was not her best work. The spice was lacking and the FMC lacked any spine. The story line felt rushed and incomplete. I really like this series and she didn’t really do this character justice.
Maestro and Aselie are a match made in heaven or hell?. Both have suffered severe trauma in their lives which affects how.they interact with people, neither trust s easily. The whole book is almost entirely just the two.of them communicating. Yes Aselie does have a few friends but is not particularly close to.them, Maestro has his Torpedo Ink family but gain he tends to keep himself apart. The bulk of the book is just The two of them together talking and getting to know each other seeing if they can risk their sorely damaged hearts. The two are perfect for.each other and quickly become seriously committed but Aselie works.for.a.very dangerous man who is Torpedo Inks latest target in their.war on.hymn trafficking..................so again trust is n.issue on both sides...........
I'm a big Christine Feehan fan. Unfortunately, Betrayal Road was a big disappointment. Very little substance and minimal story with the exception of the last chapter. Hopefully there will be more character development in Book 10 along with a more in depth story line.
I feel like a ghost writer wrote this!!! This is not.CF work. It was a snooze for me. I skipped on a lot of parts. I do love the characters (her bond family) but the story lines could have been better. I still gave a 4 stats because I love CF.
Disappointing, which has become standard for this author the last few years. She used to be a must read but now the characters and plots are so over the top, it’s ridiculous.
The amount of time spent in the character’s heads and their circuitous thoughts had my attention wondering and my eyes crossing from boredom and irritation. I skimmed much of this. I truly disliked the previous two books and am unsure about continuing the series. It’s all so same/same and the writing has been so stagnant.
** Please note I received an ARC of this book for free. It in no way reflected my review which is a true and honest reflection of my opinion of the novel.
Betrayal Road is book 9 in the Torpedo Ink series by Christine Feehan.
The female main character, Azelie, has a tendency to stick her head in the sand because she is overwhelmed and doesn’t know how to get out of a bad situation she stumbled into as a child. Lucky for her, Master has walked into her life!
Master knows Azelie is working for bad people. His club is after them to stop a human trafficking network, but no one can tell if Azelie is aware of the trafficking operation since she isn’t directly involved. The club sends Master undercover to try and determine her guilt or innocence, and locate the victims. They are determined to treat Azelie as gently as possible if she is an innocent … they definitely learned their lesson after mistrusting and mistreating Anya in book #2!
Master turned out to be very different from how he saw in himself in previous books once he was in an actual relationship. While still dominant in many ways, it was watered down from how he is portrayed in previous novels. This occurs organically, as the MMC and FMC navigate their relationship together so it reads very much as a process of self-discovery, but I like a little more spice in my romance, personally.
The plot-line and the “baddie” who the club is up against was not that predictable to me, so I won’t say much more, lest I give anything way. Betrayal Road is more plot-driven than some of the others in this series.
Betrayal Road is different from most of the others in the series because it is not set in the village of Sea Haven, and also has very little “page time” devoted to the other members of Torpedo Ink or the Drakes. Few familiar characters make an appearance in the novel which, for me, was disappointing. One of the main reasons I am such a fan of this series, and Ms. Feehan’s other Sea Haven series, is that I read for the world-building and the interaction between these characters, rather than reading for plot. That aspect was missing from this story so even though the book was fine, I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. I'm sure it would be an amazing read for someone who reads more for plot or who had never read a Torpedo Ink novel before.
BUCKLE UP B*TCHES, WE’RE BACK ON BETRAYAL ROAD And by “road” I mean, the long-a** highway of Torpedo Ink that I have been riding since book one with zero regrets and possibly a minor concussion from all the whiplash.
First of all… We’ve got action. We’ve got vigilante justice. We’ve got BDSM (because of course we do—these men were literally forged in trauma and pain, so naturally, that’s how they process intimacy). And let’s not forget the actual plot simmering beneath the spice like a cauldron of vengeance stew: TAKING. DOWN. TRAFFICKERS. 🥵💥🛑
Now, let’s talk FMC. Our baby girl came in with the surprise combo move of “Virgin Trope” x “Ultimate Pleaser” x “True Submissive.” Like ma’am, are you okay? Blink twice if you’re overwhelmed, which was very clear she was 😆
Writing style? Smooth. Like a well-oiled bike chain. It flowed easy, no unnecessary chaos What I really loved? THE COMMUNICATION. 🙌 No dumb miscommunication trope. Nobody stormed off dramatically without a word… well once.. They actually talked it out—I gasped. Progress in my spicy books??? Revolutionary.
NOW. Let me be honest. There wasn’t a lotta bike life in this one. No tire-burned roads,no roadhouse, one scene riding the bike.. It’s more focused on the FMC and her job as a front-bookkeeper for a human trafficking ring where she didn’t know that’s what she was (casual day job, you know). But you know what? I wasn’t mad. The plot still clapped.
Is this my fave of the series? Nah. Did it scratch the Torpedo Ink itch that’s been driving me feral for a year? ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY.
Final question: 19 made it out of that horrific Russian school. I’ve got a spreadsheet. I’ve got color-coded tabs. WHERE ARE THE BOOKS, CHRISTINE? YOU OWE ME 19. This is book 9..

I've really enjoyed watching the growth of each member of Torpedo Ink as a group and as individuals. We see more independent thinking while living within an interdependent environment. I'm looking forward to the next Torpedo Ink book. I'm hoping that it'll be Lazar "Keys" Alexei story.
3.5 stars for me..I find myself in a love/hate relationship with this series. There is a lot to like: the found family, overcoming the bad guys and saving innocents, creative businesses and community settings, etc...but I only keep purchasing Torpedo Ink releases because I am such a die-hard fan of CF's Carparthian series. I find myself somehwat let down in regards to Torpedo Ink.
CF knows how to write a story. There is no doubt that she is incredibly talented. However, the same general concept is being used in every TI book. Same male with the same actions/reactions/excuses/reasonings with a different name attached to him.
In the last 3-4 books, we also have big similarities between MFCs. They are all beautiful, young, and have no friends/family to speak of except quirky, nosey elders. Each and every single one has an extremely horrible background and literally no self-esteem despite all of them being physical perfection to the rest of the general population. One conversation with the man occurs and suddenly, the woman is willing to drop at his feet even though she is supposedly very insecure/cautious.
She instantly believes the terrifying tale of him being taken by the government, tortured, and conditioned without any further context...even though is is a genius or supposedly very smart and presumably capable of critical thinking. The. Exact. Same. Females. Every. Time. Too similar characters and no deep build up of relationship to match the depth of loyalty and blind faith. Her behavior contradicts itself often.
The series is starting to feel repetitive. Each man falls in love instantly and simply "knows the truth" of his woman without any buildup or emotional connection. It isn't remotely realistic. In this book, our guy has two conversations with MFC and he is head over heels in love. Despite saying he can't trust (due to his own trauma) and can't love well...he is somehow in love? And somehow she is willing to invest in him despite all the constant red flags, warnings, and the general fact that she has only known him for a few days? It takes 200 pages (half the book) before they have productive, realistic conversations about their trauma, expectations, confusion, etc. Even then, the conversations are minimal and she drops concerns so quickly.
Additionally, there was almost no integration of the MFC with the motorcycle club. She found out he was actually a part of a club at the very end, accepted it with no questions whatsoever, and that was that. Where is the bonding time? The introduction to his family? The deep explanations of who he is as a person and who his people are? The ending felt so abrupt and not well thought through.
And on a lesser note, some of this dialogue is so...odd. I can't take points off for personal preference in dialogue, but there were 5 or more times were I cringed because of the strange phrasing or outright concerning remarks that characters made in the guise of being funny. It was almost as if the author was trying too hard to be quirky with her nosey and overly sexual old people.
Again, CF is a favored author of mine and I spent a few years reading this series before I finally decided these complaints needed to be out there for other readers to see.
