Megan Forrest is going back to where it all began and this time it’s more deadly.
Megan’s paranormal investigation business shot to success, taking her around the world laying ghosts to rest for the rich and famous. However, nothing would prepare her for the phone call she was about to receive.
The new occupant of Blind House believes he has awoken a vengeful spirit.
Gone is the glitz and glamour that the mansion used to represent and now with the walls stripped bare, it’s a shell of a property used to hold commercial ghost hunts.
Digging further back into the house’s history during the 1800s reveals a tragic tale of a blind young lady who resided there named Harriot with her baby daughter Ellan. Did a party of ghost hunters awaken Harriot’s spirit?
When a man in a neighbouring property is found dead with his eyes gouged out, Megan is called to investigate, testing her bravery to its limits. She never wanted to return to Blind House again – ever.
She’s back to banish a spirit with a score to settle before the death count rises, whilst laying her own ghosts to rest along the way. It's time to get swept up in another deadly game.
When I read The Blind House by Jamie-Lee Brooke I was completely gripped but the storyline, so when the sequel was released I knew I just had to read it. This story has dread and a palpable tension seeping from every page as Megan Forrest is called to investigate the possibility that the new owner of Blind House has released a malevolent spirit. This is a dark tale which doesn’t shy away from scaring the reader as we learn more about the history of the house and it’s inhabitants. Megan is a great character, feisty, brave but with a vulnerable side. The other characters were very well written as I seemed to trust some and have suspicions about others. Gruesome in places, I couldn’t help myself grimacing at times and I was kept guessing at the truth until the final pages. But this was also a haunting book which did at other times filled me with sympathy and sadness. Her Pretty Eyes is a brilliant book which I read in one sitting and I can’t wait to read more from the fabulous Jamie-Lee.
As I LOVE reading horror books, I jumped at the chance to read and review this one. It certainly did not disappoint. The story is told from 3 different timelines: Harriet and her daughter Ellan both set in the 1800s and Megan set more up to date. The book had ghost hunting (which I actually enjoy doing), blood and evil spirits. You can truly feel the tension as you read. This book is actually the sequel to 'Blind House' it can be read as a standalone, but I would definitely recommend you read that too as it's SO good too! I cannot praise this book highly enough, Jamie - Lee Brooke is on my list of horror authors to look out for.
Horror and fantasy are my go to genres and I have to say Jamie-Lee Brooke’s horror fiction is amazing and addictive! Her Pretty Eyes is the second book featuring Megan and the Blind House and while I was wondering if returning to the same location could offer a good story I should not have second guessed myself. Brooke’s narrative is top notch in scares, spooks and suspense.
While this is a sequel to the first book it could be read as a standalone but definitely benefits by reading the first. If purely to see the characters grow and develop. I adore how Brooke weaves stories of the past and the present together, even though the past is heartbreaking and tragic (I suppose it has to be for ghosts to stay with unfinished business). Both past and present are vividly brought to life by Brooke’s writing. You really feel like you are there which is equally amazing and slightly terrifying because of how creepy it gets. I class myself as pretty tough when it comes to things that creep me out, being a horror fan, but eyes are where I draw the line. Needless to say I got a few shivers reading this. Brooke’s style can get visceral and bloody but honestly I loved it as much as it gave me chills. You’ll find yourself strapped in, unable to stop reading because you are waiting for the next twist or turn.
I felt the main thing that helps this need to keep reading is Brooke’s character’s namely Megan, a little bit Marc and a lot one character I don’t want to mention for spoilers but they are a ghostly good boy. I adored seeing Megan back and processing the events of Blind House. She is such a realistic character and I adore her in general she is equally sensible and level headed but she is by no means flawless. The way she reacts is genuine and believable – at least how I believe I’d act in the situation.
I honestly have adored both these books but Her Pretty Eyes is absolutely perfect for horror fans who like a bit of blood, a lot of atmosphere, ghosts and spirits and best of all brilliant, believable characters. I honestly think this is one of my top ten of 2023!
So, this isn't the first book that I've read by this author - however I didn't get chance to read the book that went along with this one - it's sequel - Blind House. I do have it and fully intend to spend some time in the new year reading that and this one again to see if things pan out differently having the background knowledge - but having said that, I think this one worked ok as a standalone read.
There were obvious references and definitely some character develolment that will come from book 1 - but I really don't think that I lost too much enjoyment reading this. If you can call what I experiences, enjoyment!!
This totally gave me the eebie-jeebies!!
Megan's paranormal investigation business has gone from strength to strength - seeing her ridding the rich and famous of their ghostly guests. However, one phone calls sees her back in Blind House - now used to host ghost hunting parties - investigating the brutal and mysterious death of a neighbour.
Ok! I do not believe in ghosts!!.... I'm getting that out there just to remind myself that this is the truth - but by gods this felt so, so real.
The author absolutely grabs you and drags you screaming through this brilliant book where I literally felt every single chill down my spine! I honestly could not put this down and couldn't get up to bed after finishing it!
The descriptive writing is so creepy and atmospheric and (sadly?) I was transported inside this book with them - I really didn't want to be there! 😱🤣 (I say this just because it was so dark.....but really I loved it too!)
A brilliant read and I can't wait to flit back to book 1 - but also really hope there might be more to come in this series too....
Well, wow, what an absolute belter of a read. This is set in 3 timelines, following Harriot, her daughter Ellan, both in the late 1800s, then Megan, in modern times. She's called back to Blind House (this is a follow-up to Jamies first book) when someone thinks he's unleashed evil spirits after doing a ouija board. When a local man is found dead with his eyes gouged out, Megan has to wonder what she's let herself in for. This is such a creepy read. It has all the perfect elements of a horror and creepy ghost story, an old country house, a family legend, strange doors banging, and breezes. My worst scenario, though, when it comes to body injuries, eyes..*shudder* I'm not someone that has a strong opinion either way about ghosts, and my gut knew that it couldn't be ghosts doing what was happening, and yet.... it was written so well that I was convinced. I loved Megan and Teddy. The characters had the right mix of fun, interesting, and plain annoying. I was really really very tempted to stay up and finish this, and would have been blaming the author for being late to work! It's that addictive. Very few books grab me and grip me like that. 5 stars seems insufficient, but that's what I'm restricted by, so that's all I can give.
Thank you @zooloosBT and @Jamie_LeeBrooke for letting me be part of this tour and reviewing this book. I have been founding it hard to get into books lately but Her Pretty eyes engrossed be straight the way to the point I was hooked till the end. Brilliant read. Her Pretty Eyes is a young adult and supernatural genre. This is book 2 and you can read it as a standalone as I did but I definitely want to read book 1. The story is about Megan who is paranormal investigate and she must return back to Blind House. The story is told in the past in the 1800’s which is about Harriot, a 16 year old girl who is blind . Then goes to the present day with Megan who is investigating the spirit in Blind house. It all links together very well. Her Pretty eyes is written exceedingly well and has great amount of darkness, creepiness running through the book and the descriptions are amazing, you can visualize everything in your head sometimes I felt like I was Megan. Fantastic read. Strongly recommend. 5 stars.
Her Pretty Eyes is the sequel to Blind House by Jamie-Lee Brooke but can be read like a standalone. It's categorized as a YA which I don't normally read but I thoroughly enjoyed this! The twists and turns were plentiful with an ending I never saw happening. Wow! 10 out of 10 stars and read this if you enjoy YA, paranormal and suspense!
I absolutely loved this book, devoured it in two sessions. I will never turn down a book with spooky going on’s. So, this is the second book in the series, hands up I haven’t read that one. But that’s ok, it doesn’t really matter, even though you kinda miss out on some info from the book one. Anyway, Megan has a wonderful unique gift, she can see ghosts, see in the past etc. This time round she is called back to Blind House, which has a back story. This manor has been turned into a ghost house. Megan has now have to do her thing. You have chapters from past to present. This is very spooky, and the story plot is fantastic. I am now currently reading the first book, to see how it all begins. I really really loved this book and the characters inside.
I had to read this sequel to Blind House as I was so invested in Megan's story. This one can be read standalone, but I really recommend reading both for a better understanding of Megan's past. This one creeped me the hell out! 😳😅 It gave me creepy vibes and made me look around the room in case anyone was watching me. I loved the story and how it led on from book one so well. I read them both in just under 4 days overall. Really recommend this book.
Her pretty eyes by Jamie Lee Brooke. Megan Forrest is going back to where it all began and this time it’s more deadly. Omg. I loved this book. I did like Megan. I had my theory but boy was I wrong. That did surprise me. I liked Marc. Georgia too. Even Steve and Evan. Simon I wasn't sure about. I do hope there is more to come. 5*.
Here is my review of Her Pretty Eyes by Jamie-Lee Brooke
I got into this book straight away and found it to be a really enjoyable read as I love this type of book. It’s an easy to read style and the writing is descriptive making it appear as pictures in my mind as I’m reading the book. The plot is great and one that I haven’t read before. Megan Forrest is the equivalent of a ghost hunter. She made a name for herself and has worked for celebrities but is now back home for a rest. Out of the blue, she receives a call from a friend of the new owner of Blind House, asking her to go back. She agrees. She finds the house has been changed, totally and then she is invited for the ghost hunt planned for that weekend. She agrees to go but was she wise to?
Blurb :

Oh my god, what have I just read!! This book was PHENOMENAL! Ghost hunting, blood, psychopaths, oh my god, it has it all!! I devoured this book in a couple of hours, I couldn’t give it up! I was hooked as soon as I started to read it. I knew I would be in for a ride…and boy was I!
The past was always bound to be a horrific and heartbreaking story, but Jamie didn’t let me down. It was gruesome but, then it needed to be, especially when you realise what the title means!
Present day, Megan is still adjusting to life after the events of Blind House and the doctor! I did howl with laughter about her visit to New York!!! But that’s the only time I laughed, as for the rest I was so tense. Wrapped up tight like a coil, I didn’t know what might happen. A few scenes unsettled me and for others, I was holding my breath. This is such a rollercoaster of emotions.
Unfortunately, Jamie’s amazing writing lets you see EVERYTHING she writes. She can be quite visceral and I don’t want to see some of the scenes lol. The past is the past and the story of Harriot and Ellan will stay with you long past the end of the story. The present day is dark, and you forget how twisted Jamie can go!
This is a fantastic addition to the haunting series and I do hope there is more to come. I love Megan and now with the potential addition of two people, I think this could be an epic series. However, on the same foot, I hope the ghosts will finally sleep at Blind House, as they deserve it.
I am so excited for everyone to read this book! It is just brilliant. I am in awe of what Jamie can do!
I adored Silent Midwinter by this author so much that I went straight on to read Blind House.
I rarely read this genre so was pleasantly surprised how fabulously creepy it was. It’s not often I get chills reading a paranormal or horror book but this really made me shiver at some parts as the atmospheric nature of story telling is quite eerie in parts.
The characters in the books are really well written and developed showing both their strengths and frailties. I loved the background of the main character Megan which set her apart from other the characters. Megan Forrest is a paranormal investigator who helps ghosts rest in the afterlife. I love anything ghostly so really adored the two books.
There’s a few surprises in this book and what I loved was how the links to the second book; Her Pretty Eyes. This was equally creepy with a sinister edge with some of the darker scenes which were a little grim but so well written. I loved the darker element in this one as showed the growth from the main character had made during her time away from the previous book.
I absolutely loved them both and really hope there will be a third book in the series.
They are great heart pounding stories with haunting scenes which are both creepy and perfectly atmospheric for this time of year.
Megan is a successful paranormal investigator. When Simon Webster asks for her help on an organised commercial ghost hunt, she is hesitant to get involved, as it means returning to Blind House, a place that holds traumatic memories. After much persuasion, Megan agrees to return, albeit with a strong sense of foreboding. As well as facing ghosts of the past, Megan also has to face up to her own personal demons, involving decisions she made as a younger woman. Can she overcome these and get her life back on an even keel?
This was a frightening book. My heart was in my mouth during some scenes. I raced through it as I found the storyline mesmerising and wanted to see what was going to happen. The author does a fantastic job keeping up the suspense and it was definitely one to keep you awake at night. It's the perfect read for anyone who likes supernatural stuff: ouija boards, haunted house, tormented spirits. I really think this would make a great Netflix series. The ending was a surprise too.
Her Pretty Eyes is the second book in the Blind House trilogy. It can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend you read the first book too - as that it is equally awesome. Looking forward to reading the last book in the trilogy. A brilliant series.
I love horror books, and I have been reading more YA horror recently and loving it, but this one, has to be one of the best I have ever read, it was absolutely incredible.
The book is so well written it was almost like a movie on the page it was so visceral I literally could see everything in my mind, i didn't want to see but I also couldn't turn away. The story line is brutal and gruesome but it was absolutely gripping and I couldn't put it down, I finished it in one day, in a one sitting, while my son was in hospital and sleeping, just before I went to sleep, I was so glad of the constant light from the nurses station that night let me tell you, however, being that close to a Doctor made me so spooked - iykyk.
I loved reading about the past which was just as brutal as the present. All of it was just so creepy and really stayed with me, I am not ashamed to say I still think about it i the dark and think maybe I will put a light on.
A fantastic read, my first by this author but it definitely win't be my last. I would highly recommend.
‘Her Pretty Eyes,’ is haunting, scary, and absolutely bloody perfect for Halloween and the cold winter months. I loved everything about this book.
Firstly, I’m always drawn to a haunted house story and then I love a mystery too, and this book had me reading into the night to get to the bottom of the mystery. Jamie delivers endings with a big, fat punch and this one was fab. Secondly, it’s brilliantly written and packed with fun and engaging characters.
I’m so glad to have taken this journey into the world of Blind House. It is the second in the series but can be read as a standalone. In my opinion, you need to read both because they’re so good and you’ll read them in no time because you won’t be able to put them down.
Having read the first book, I was keen to see where the author could take the story. I was not disappointed.
Darker than the first, the author does not shy away from scaring the reader into submission, with atmospheric scenes and grizzly discoveries.
She turns a seemingly sleepy village into a death trap, where people are wondering who will be next, and when. The characters are well constructed, and behave how you’d expect them to under the circumstances. I will leave that there for you.
You could read this as a standalone, but I recommend starting the journey with the previous book, and I sincerely hope there will be another edition to the series.
"Her Pretty Eyes" by Jamie-Lee Brooke, the third novel from the author of "Blind House," presents a deadly narrative as Megan Forrest returns to investigate a mysterious death at the haunted Blind House. Megan's thriving paranormal investigation business leads her to unravel the history of the house, revealing a vengeful spirit. Skillfully interlacing 19th-century events with the present, the narrative keeps tension palpable. Well-crafted characters, especially Megan, add depth with a mix of bravery and vulnerability. The story balances gruesome elements with moments of sympathy, creating a haunting experience.
A chilling, sinister, and gruesome read. I absolutely adore the authors writing style. Strong, well developed, fleshed out characters. The masterfully creates a haunting atmosphere, and then it has you emerged into a terrifying plot. The story unravels brilliantly to give a detailed horrifying nightmare. The author never disappoints she is a prolific writer who knows how to give you shivers down your spine.
I really enjoy this author's books. I loved the audiobook of The Silent Midwinter that I listened to a few weeks ago, and I gave Blind House 4 stars,to which Her Pretty Eyes is the sequel. I have a fascination with the paranormal, and love stories about investigating it. But I am a wimp at watching horror films. I know, I know. They don't really go together. This is classed as a YA Horror, so more on the tame side, but it is so very creepy nonetheless. It's just my level! As with all Jamie-Lee Brooke's novels, the pacing is fast, to you keep reading late into the night (with all the lights on, obviously!) The characters are great too. I would recommend reading Blind House before this one as it helps get some background on the events, and what Megan is facing when she returns to Blind House. Plus, it's a great book! Readers will read this in one sitting, I am sure of it.
Fantastic book but the end is a let down. I can't let that ruin the whole book because on the whole it was brilliant. Loved the characters and the back story. I could see this as a film.
