I saw book 1 in this trilogy advertised as great, so tried it. I was so over Time Travel - every writer of the genre seemed to be influenced by Outlander. These three books are completely different. The main protagonist is a widely acclaimed, but weary war journalist who goes to Flagstaff to be with a dying friend. The friend asks for his ashes to be scattered in the desert. The journalist decides that a ghost town from Wild West times would be ideal. When a storm suddenly arrives and soaks him, he takes refuge in a cave in the rocky hill above the town. There he finds, hidden in the back of the cave, a trunk with a number of obviously very old items inside and two things that pique his curiosity even more - a note, saying "Funny I'll die in 1870, a hundred years before I was born" and two camera memory cards (chips, sticks?) What he sees on them changes his beliefs and his life forever. A threatening visit from the NSA makes his decision. I thought, about halfway through book 2, "The Yestertime Effect" that it was heading the way of a warning about what would become of the world if humanity doesn't change it's ways. It kind of is, but this, the 3rd book becomes more about the dilemmas facing the characters. I enjoyed this trilogy, all 3 books equally. I do recommend it, even if, like me, you've had enough of Time Travel in the Outlander genre.

More adventures in time

I'm a fan of time travel stories. This series has an interesting mechanism for moving through time: one-way portals of unknown (so far) origin spread around the world, each connected to a different era.

The story is interesting enough to ignore the occasional stylistic clunk.

If the best books are five stars, three stars is nothing to be sad about.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit like I expected but I feel a bit of fatigue setting in.

When I read the first book, it felt fresh and there was a sense of wonder. But now, it feels like I've read most of this stuff a few times. One issue is that there has never been a proper villain though there have been bad guys. It feels like a collection of incidents in many cases which is fine for one book but difficult when you're reading a trilogy.

When I finished the first book, I felt there was a proper conclusion and now at the end of the third book, I feel the story can be concluded here. The rules for time-travel in this series make it difficult to have a single continuous story story across the book.

Overall, this was fun but I feel the series should now end.

A must read for anyone who loves stories about time travel

I love a good time travel book and this book had me hooked from the first page. I felt like I was right there with all the characters and I loved the connections between the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves time travel stories. I read the whole series and each book kept me wanting more and I was so happy when after reading books 1 and 2 there was a book 3. My hope is that there will be more to this series.

What a Fascinating Series!!

What a journey for the time travelers and to live to tell the world of their adventures! I read the first two books in the series and was pleased to see the notification that the conclusion of this story was now available.
I think the government used their power to develop the time travel research but typically denied any involvement in this fiasco. I was glad when it was headed off at the pass due to the quick thinking of Natalie!!
Thank you Mr. Cunningham for sharing your talent with us, the readers of your stories! Keep writing and ill keep reading!

The three books in the Yestertime trilogy read like one continuous book, and it's really best to read them as such. The main gist of the series is time travel. The US government discovered the existence of time "portals" - natural phenomena that transport people from their present time to a another time period in the same location. Each portal is one-way only. Some go forward in time, and some go back. You can go through to the new time period, but you can't go back through it to return to the time you left. An NSA program is initiated to explore the feasibility of time travel as a way to affect small changes in the past that could improve life in the future (with particular concern for the environment). Devices known as portal finders are developed to help locate portals, and the different portals are mapped to show where they are and when they lead to. The "science" behind this time travel method as it pertains to the plot of the story is sketchy at best, so a certain amount of suspension of disbelief is required of the reader to fully engage with the travels and travails of the various characters that we meet in these stories. As one might expect in a time travel series, you get to visit a lot of different time periods, from the 18th through the 22nd centuries, but most of the action occurs in the late 19th - mid 20th centuries. A major complication for our travelers is that at some point after the time travel program was initiated, the government decided the program was too dangerous, and all travelers needed to be located and "eliminated" (killed) so our group(s) of travelers are on the run, trying to stay one step ahead of the eliminators and stay alive. While I can't say the writing was great, the story was imaginative and I got really caught up in it. The characters were simplistic and predictable, so it was the fast paced plot twists that kept me going. It's a fun series - not overly deep, but it does have some noteworthy thoughts about whether you could successfully live out of sync with your own time (not that it's within the realm of possibility) which is not a question I have seen addressed in other time travel books.

"The Yestertime Warning” is the fast-paced conclusion to this trilogy of "time travel with an unusual twist”, where our intrepid time travel groupings become more desperate as 'the clock ticks on' in whatever year they are in. These are in fact determined people who vacillate between being so right and so wrong in choices made by some. The ending decisions are surprising and probably necessary in long run, but could it eventualy make things worst? Interesting choices are made that make this a page-turning, twisty, thought-provoking and highly-recommended conclusion to the trilogy. Four and a half PERILOUS Stars. Kindle. 258 pages.

A Fitting Conclusion

Clearly, this sequel to the other two Yestertime novels is intended to conclude the series. The ending doesn't absolutely close off the possibility of other stories, but all of the major characters' lives are settled.

The secret of the time portals -- where they came from or how they come to exist -- is never revealed. And that works. They're a mysterious force of nature.

For the novel itself, the pacing seemed a bit slow to me until near the end. But that's really the worst flaw I noted. My best recommendation for all three novels is simply to say that at some point, I'll probably read them again.

Many characters added

The basic idea of characters using free standing time travel portals was fleshed out by adding many additional characters from a wide variety of different eras and backgrounds. The most engaging one was Josef, the Klondike gold prospector from 1899 who discovered a portal finder and accidentally used it, in the process starting the gold rush.
The author opens a can of worms with the introduction of the paradox of a character traveling in an endless loop of time travel, but he leaves the issue unresolved. Perhaps the next book in the series will try to deal with the issue again.

Great Finale

This was a great finale to this series. I wasn't sure how Andrew Cunningham would close the loop on everything and still make the book fun, but he did it in spectacular fashion. I really enjoyed his character development as well. If you've read the first two books of this series, you'll definitely want to read this one. And if you haven't read them, you'd enjoy all three!

review of The “Yestertime Warning” series book 3. by Andrew Cunningham

Well this adventure has come to an end. And I have to say I was satisfied with the ending. It’s hard to end a story when you are saying goodbye to the characters you had come to know. But it had to end somewhere. I think they did a great job without leaving too many loose ends. Almost makes me wish time travel was real, or is it ?😆

Read the series in order

This is the third book in the Yestertime Series. You need to read the books in order to get the most out of the story. All of the books are great, but I liked this one best. Also, unlike many book series, the Epilogue wrapped the story up beautifully without leaving the reader feeling unsatisfied, and without using some kind of cop-out "deus ex machina" to tie up loose ends.

Lets put it this way. As with books 1 & 2 I found this one just as hard to put down. Not giving anything away but I was happy with the ending which cannot always be said for other books I've read. I had to stop reading it at 3.15am as my eyes were closing and I only had one chapter left but I made up for it a few hours later and finished it. A great little trilogy and one I'm glad I didn't miss.

When you’re a time traveler find home takes a while.

Another great novel about the intricacies and ethical issues of time travel. As this series continues keeping up with the multitude of characters is becoming more difficult to follow. The author frequently provides reminder clues which helps. Can’t wait to read the next in the series. If only I could time travel to its release in Dec. 2023. Or knowing the consequences of time travel maybe I’ll just wait.

Satisfying end to a great trilogy

A wonderful time travel trilogy that kept me coming back for more. I’ve read most of this author’s books and have enjoyed them all. I’m terrible about leaving reviews till I finish binge reading a series. Start with the first book and you’ll be hooked!

Book 3 ...a wonderful ending!

All three books are wonderfully detailed and written and I've enjoyed them very much.
I've read books on time travel by several different authors, each one giving time travel a new perspective. The more I read, the more interesting the topic becomes.

A great ending to a great series. I loved the first book in the series, thought the second was a little confusing, but definitely worth reading, and the finale bought everything together. I felt it was a satisfying ending, but I was a little sad at leaving the characters behind. They were interesting and the plot was really enjoyable. Good job on a terrific series.

What a read ......

All three books are more than brilliant. I'm really sad I have now read them, what shall I read now? I believe time travel is real, as I believe there are portals in certain places. These books would make great film series. You have certainly caught my imagination and thoughts and I love your series. You have a very creative mind. Thank you.

Have portal will travel.

I love the premise of this story. So many people have simply vanished in a split second after walking behind something or going around a corner. It has long been believed that they entered a portal of some kind. Maybe a time portal or a portal leading to a different dimension. Either way, the phenomenon is real.

wrapped up the series very nicely

I thought this novel did a good job wrapping up the series. As with the previous books, it progressed quickly and kept me completely engaged as I followed the stories of Ray, Natalie, Hanna, Simone, Hal, Alex, and the host of smaller characters. I did love how everything was resolved and came to a satisfying conclusion.

Good!

Fun trilogy about time-travel entwined with some action and mystery. I wish the author would have dug deeper in history, as I feel some parts (period of time, I mean), were treated a little too lightly. But as it isn't a “hard science-fiction” story at all, it was nonetheless really enjoyable.

Read the entire Yestertime series!

Full of danger, as entire, sadness and joy. This trilogy will make you very glad you've read it.
Sure there are a few rabbit holes you'll want
to go down along the way, but each book stands well on its own.
Thank you Andrew Cunningham, and you too Herbert George Wells.

Fun trip

Really had a fun trip through time. I read all three books and had a " Ripsnortin" good time with the plot, the times, and the wide range of characters. There was also a serious message for the present planet inhabitants about our future, to clean up our present problems before our children and grandchildren have to deal with a bigger mess. Enjoy the read, I sure did!

This is a very good time-travel book, the best of the series especially because loose ends were tied up. The idea that portals work only in one direction make it more interesting than many time travel adventures. It introduces the concept of portal fatigue with deadly choices for the most experienced travellers. Well worth the read after setting it up with the preceding Yestertime books.

The treasure hunt is finished for the time being.

I pre-ordered the 4th book because I know the characters and understand this author's time traveling science.
I won't say which characters chose remaining in place, traveling or returning to their previous Era- the future.
I would recommend to a +13 - 14 and above reader.

The best time travel book's I have ever read.

This time travel series has to be the best time travel story I have ever read. It's exciting, fast paced and the characters come alive. I just finished up book three and can't wait to start the next book in the series. I don't have a negative thing to say about these stories except I hope they never end.

Best of the series!

This story was one you find yourself not being able to put down. It is very important to read this series in order because the characters would be extremely confusing. Each of the characters are well developed and believable. This is a totally wonderful read!
