The Art of Arthur Adams is the most comprehensive retrospective ever compiled on this celebrated comic artist. A hand-picked selection of his art spans forty years and highlights a variety of comic-book covers and interior pages from each phase of his career.
I've been a big Art Adams fan since I was a teenage, always excited when something would come out with his artwork on the cover, bonus if it was inside too! This is a bunch of images from his various works over the years with lots of writing about how he got into comics and little details about history behind some of the comics he worked on.
A nice retrospective. I was expecting (perhaps wrongly) more of his personal pinup work. Since this project was so successful, maybe a collection like that is a possibility? Hey, they did two books for Bruce Timm!
I own a good number of books called "The Art of" and then you insert a well-known great artist. Not all are created equal...but this Art of Arthur Adams rises above many of them. To me, just the added comments that Mr. Adams gives to pieces and some background...that is what allows the reader an inside view to the artists mindset when doing pieces. I love the comments on what he would do differently and even parts he really really still likes from a piece. I found the amount of artwork grand and because there are other Arthur Adams art books, I felt this one still managed to be unique and not a heavy repeat of art from other books. I always see a cover I missed when released and now will be hunting it down because I saw it in all of its glory inside this book.
I bought both the hardcover and the softcover edition from kickstarter and all the goodies really made it even better, but those things are not in the book. It took me a while to read this, but I wanted to spend more time on the pages then I would have if I just squeezed it into my evenings. I think this book deserves many repeat reads as you will love the details on each and every piece.
