Grave talker is a bit of a roller coaster ride. We have a messy family situation, great found family, complicated powers, hiding the arcane from humans, secrets popping out of the woodwork left and right. There’s a complex story underlying the whole series.

I listened to the story on Audiobook and my rating for that would be lower based on the narrator. Even though her attitude and delivery had me laughing out loud a couple of times, I felt like I was listening to someone having a psychotic break for the majority of the book.

Listened to this omnibus audiobook, and I cannot recommend it enough! The narrator, Cassandra Parker, did an absolutely AMAZING job! Her sass and snark were PERFECT for this series and FMC.

The series as a whole was super good. Lots of ups and downs, twists and turns, and a dash of betrayal.

I forsee listening to this again in the future and would love more books set in this world (I know there are, and I'm getting to them, lol)

Enjoyable but has some challenges

I enjoyed the series, even though halfway through I was not sure whether I even wanted to continue. I'm glad I did finish it. I took a star off because I thought the whole series was a bit inconsistent in several things in the universe. One of the things that bugged me was that the pace was terribly fast, at least in the first several books. Things happened almost on top of each other, leading to the complaint from Darby that she just wanted a day of peace. That really was not an issue as far as I was concerned. But when she finally got SEVERAL days of relative peace, as soon as something she knew was going to happen at some point soon happens, she is back to complaining that she never gets any down time. I'm not saying her live was easy, but to totally ignore she did just have days to recover, seems rude and ungrateful. Also, when visiting one of the older cemeteries there is a comment that there are not nearly as many ghosts as in the newer ones, as they naturally move on for the most part over time. Why then, are the catacombs in Paris teaming with ghosts, when they are not only as old as that cemetery, if not older, based on the settling of the area of Knoxville, but are not really cemetery at all, but ossuaries, where bones are stored after the bodies have decayed? They haven't even beem used as ossuaries since mid 19th century. And why does Darby's ability to keep the ghosts from overwhelming her get worse when presumably she gets lots of practice, has had a lot of practice, and becomes more powerful? The rest was good, I enjoyed some of the twists, though most were quite predictable. There is a HEA. I did role my eyes at several of the rather cheesy solutions when things seemed to go permanently wrong, but it fit within the world as presented in this series.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

3.5*

First time read the author's work?: No

Will you be reading more?: Yes

Would you recommend?: Yes

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

Definitely crazy stuff

Got pulled in multiple directions with this one. On the one hand, have to hand it to her. Seriously bad@$$. Nothing she won't do for those she loves. On the other hand, nothing she won't do for those she cares about, including almost dying herself. Darby was someone I wanted the deck a time or two, even as I got why she did the things she did.

A detective by day, but a supernatural who helps other arcane species...witches, shifters, vampires. When her two worlds collide, things really get ugly. From evil brothers, dead mothers, demons, half sisters, wars between species, zombies, and apocalyptic world destroying craziness. Darby knows she can really on her friends, and uses the ghosts she can see for information, but attractive men are still an issue. Balancing them and everything else is wearing her out.

I got seriously caught up. I've never wanted someone to kill a lot of people more than I wanted her to 😕

This series has it all action emotional twists and a cast of characters you can’t help but love and hate!! So well written and amazingly read by Cassandra. It will forever be one of my top reads. Darby is such a wonderful FMC you see her grow and strengthen but still have faults and fears that make her inevitably human natured and 100% relatable. This book series will have you laughing one minute, clutching your fists and ready to yell at them the next, and a few times will rip your heart to shreds. But trust Annie to not leave you totally broken. If you read this please read in tandem with Soul Reader trilogy so you get the full story of both Darby and Sloan together. It makes the experience so much more complete that way.

Grave Talker Complete series

I thoroughly enjoyed every one of these books, hoping near the end of each that it would continue. Her characters were unique and I loved almost all of them. There was a big surprise which I didn’t see coming and it made the books that much more interesting. I read these on Kindle Unlimited but may buy them so I can read them again down the road.

Amazing series

I absolutely adore this series! It’s a re-read for me, and Annie Anderson is a significant reason why I ventured into the paranormal and urban fantasy genres. She’s one of my all-time favorite authors. If you’re seeking action, adventure, witty banter, hilarious one-liners, and a supporting cast that will keep you on your toes, then this series is an absolute must-read. I highly recommend it!

A good read

I enjoyed all the stories, but would have liked them much more without the over use of the f word.

I liked this series quite a bit, though I felt like it fell down a bit towards the end. The universe is fun, though because it is interconnected with prior books, I sometimes felt a bit like I was dropped into the middle of an existing story. Darby is super fun and I will say that there were a couple of twists that I definitely did not see coming and others that I absolutely did. The overall cast of characters is entertaining and this series is overall a light, fun read.
