Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
Ellis is trying to help Charlie and his friend solve a murder, but the more she digs the more things seem tied to her own mystery. Drow Guardian was another addictive tale and I love the world that Carr & Anderle have created. The Drow are hidden from humans, but apparently not all as we learn more in this second tale.
Ellis has made some friends in LaLa Land (Los Angeles) from Charlie, who worked for the police department, to a tech nerd who communicates with animals. I love this motley crew. Percy cracks me up as the two get themselves in trouble. The tale mixes humor, friendship, magic and family issues into a unique tale. I love the magic of the Drow and their medicinal mushrooms.
This second installment was more suspenseful as the danger to Ellis and the Drow increase. She is clever, but makes some serious mistakes which almost cost her.
While the case is resolved, we are still left with more questions and I am eager to dive into Drow Mystery, the next audiobook in this seven book series. I am beginning to suspect some twists, especially after she discovers she is being shadowed.
Stephanie Savannah continues to narrate and does a great job of bringing Ellis, Charlie, Percy and the others to life. She enhanced my overall enjoyment of the tale and I recommend listening to this series.
Ellis is deep into other people's troubles, as well as her own, as she tries to help her new sort of friend, Charlie, to solve the murder of a fellow policeman's ex-wife.
Nothing is as it appears to be, and Ellis is getting deeper into other problems, especially when a mycelium customer - who has turned her business on its head, due to Ellis needing a LOT of money, & quickly - to the constant feeling that she is being watched!
Although her number one culprit is her brother, he doesn't have the kind of skill that she's seeing, Ellis is getting more and more needful of finding out who it is!
Between investigating the murder, looking into the strange symbol that seems to represent a business that her mother was involved in, and dealing with her friend Percy, the animal psychic - plus every piece of wildlife living around them - Ellis is finding it ever harder to help Charlie, while also trying to keep her lack of knowledge about the World Aboveground, from giving away her origins!
This book was, from nose to tail, one rush of adrenaline after another.
Ellis seems to have spent her whole time running from one complex problem to another, without resolving any of them, but an incident with the rather dangerous people, associated with her mother's old place of work, proves deadly - and Ellis knows she's going to have to take some time to learn more, before rushing ahead into even more danger!
I'm really loving this series, especially with all the animal characters involved - considering they ARE just animals, & not Were animals, or Soul animals etc.
They all have their own characters, and I have to confess to a real soft spot for the Pigeon that Percy uses a lot!
Sooooo funny! Lol
I'm going to go straight on to Book Three: 'Drow Mystery', of this wonderful series, to find out just how Ellis is going to be able to get out of the deadly danger that she's found herself in.
Once I've read it, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it.
Ellis is trying to help Charlie and his friend solve a murder, when thing start to get even more dangerous. It turns out that some of her family's mystery is mixed in with the one they are working on. I am enjoying the storylines in this series and also the characters. There is quite a bit of humor and lots of action and I am looking forward to the next book.
Congratulations to Martha Carr and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such intexresting and exciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
Interesting plot. It feels incomplete though. So many missing pieces that are partially answered immediately followed by "nope, that's not it either". Also - what the heck was the "we need to step away from each other"? They weren't together, but still - they had basically had each other's backs for a while. It just felt like everyone was running in circles.
This second book in The Chronicles of Shadow Bourne series was an enjoyable read.
With plenty of intrigue and far more questions than answers, Ellis continues to try and find out what the symbol on her mother's box means, and who are the group connected to it.
I am at the edge of my seat! I am all in on this series, wow. The second book was just as fun and far more suspenseful. Another case is solved just to open up more questions….are they going to finish the whole story in the next book?! We shall see.
The 2nd book in the series IMO was weak, plot wise, due to a very stupid decision made by Ellis that didn't make any sense to me, especially as she had enough knowledge to know better. Percy and the animals, though, were as delightful as the last book.
Enjoying the ride, but impatient to get answers, and the Questions keep coming. What is the strange society of mercenaries, and how do they know about the drow? What was Ellis' mom involved in? I need answers!!
Start reading for a wild ride. Ellis, Charlie and the animals get into some wild stuff. Men with the moon symbol from her mother’s badge show up. Who are they?
