Toronto in 100 Beers, by Steve Himel, Tony Halmos and Adin Wener, is a book about famed Toronto breweries Ides series of beer, a long running monthly beer series that commemorated famous Torontonians and Canadiana. The beer run ended in 2024 with their 100th release, although the Henderson label remains a mainstay of LCBO's and Beer Store shelves across Ontario. The book was excellent, as it details each label, the corresponding description of its inspiration, and contained a lot of tidbits on Toronto. Famous trans blues musician Jackie Shane, Canadian publishing label House of Ansani Press, short lived World Hockey League team the Toronto Toro's, the Group of Seven, the Amazing Randi, and an homage to the creator of Superman, Toronto's Joe Shuster, are but some of the tidbits contained in this short read. The artwork from each label is also featured. This was a great little bit of Torontonia for residents of the GTA or near-a-bouts in Ontario. A really fun read, and certainly made me crave a Henderson's Best Amber. A good time with this one.

What a fun book! Craft breweries sometimes feel like they are picking evocative or silly names for the beers to draw you in. This brewery gives a serious crap about Toronto history with choosing beers and stories as part of their ever evolving offerings. It was good that this book provided the stories behind the stories.
