Sinclair McKay chooses an excellent way to portray such a complex personality as Winston Churchill. The reader sees him through many pairs of eyes, enabling the many facets of his personality to emerge. Churchill's susceptibility to sentiment, for example, becomes apparent, as well as his more frequently portrayed physical courage and dogged determination. A bonus is the insight gained into those interacting with Churchill. McKay's prose is to the point and elegant. Photographs of some of those interacting with Churchill would have enhanced the book. A rewarding read.
