Is it possible to write a children’s picture book about a creepy chest-bursting alien based on one of the scariest R-rated horror films of all time? WHY YES, IT IS.
Idk what genius conceptualized and greenlit this, but if you have any fierce, undying love for the (first two) films at all, this is the best $5 you’ll ever spend. Art, story, appropriateness for children (just monitor the remote for awhile, I guess), and cheeky humor for adults all approved.
Well.. here’s the story of how our youngest child stumbled upon this book.
Last Saturday, we went to Barnes and Nobles because our oldest wanted to get a book for his younger brother. We saw the rack of Golden Books and my oldest was like: “Mommy! Maybe we can find something here!” So we were looking around for a bit and Daddy (@Ck78), who already goes MIA right when we entered the store, popped out of nowhere. Then as my oldest and I were looking, our youngest hands Daddy this book. And the rest is history.
Alien is a movie I’ll never forget because that was one of the first franchises my husband showed me in the beginning of our relationship. Reading this to our baby definitely made us super happy. (Even though he threw the book across the room half way through it lol)
Had to log this. Ordered as a joke and forgot all about it until I received the shipping notification. My own children are well past the age for this gem of a "Little Golden Book" but as for which niece/nephew will be getting it...
No gore and yes, weirdly appropriate for your future nerd children.
Got this for my son, since I am an Alien fanatic. It's absolutely adorable and keeps the gist of the movie's plot very well! I appreciate how they kept the Alien looking as friendly as possible as well for this being a kid's book.
I just got the “A is for Alien: An ABC Book” and it’s fun. It’s a children’s book going through the letters of the alphabet, but with characters and plots from the movie “Alien” for each of the letters.
It might not make much sense for someone who hasn’t seen the movie a few times, though, so even though there’s no gore or frightening parts from the movie, I’m not sure kids would understand it, though maybe they’d just read it and learn the letters. For me, I first saw the movie when it was on cable TV in the late 1970’s, when I was 10 years old.
While the letters are in alphabetic order, they don’t represent the movie in chronologic order. Not too far off, as at least the last few letters are the ending of the movie.
My favorite page has two letters, K and L, and take place in the lunchroom…. “K is for Kane. He doesn’t feel well. His stomach is rumbling.” And “L is for Lambert. Now she’s not sure she wants lunch.”
Ahhh, this is so goddamn adorable and clever. For all fans, young and old alike.. and for those with kids, what a fun way to teach them the alphabet.. if I had kids, I would sooooooo read this to them LOL
Me encantó.
"A is for alien. That's something you might meet in space."
I love the Alien movies, but my 30-something BF really loves them, so I could not pass up the chance to grab this for him. It's a Christmas gift, but I couldn't resist reading through it now. The simple fact that Little Golden Books took a R-Rated scary sci-fi flick and turned it into a cute kid friendly book... it trips me out, big time. I know he's gonna get a kick out of this on Christmas Day too. 🤣🤣 This is a total odd ball item to add to a fan's collection. Or, ya know, for an actual kid. Whichever.
Did I read a kids book just to help towards my 2024 reading goal? Yes. Would I have read it anyway? Of course!! This is a brilliant, totally child-friendly retelling of the film in an ABC format. It's hilarious for an adult fan of the film but I also think it's a great way to get kids interested in books as it's very different to anything else out there (as an ex-teacher I know of several students who would've loved it).
Who the hell knew there were so many letters?! This was my first time hearing the full alphabet!
Little surprised that “C” was for chestburster, but I guess “crew” was a safer option for the picture as well as being slightly more appropriate for a children’s book!
2 coos, 1 fart, 3 sneezing in rapid succession, and then I spit up.
Little Golden Books did a great fun job with this book. Wonderful illustrations, plus the alphabet tries to follow the plot of ALIEN as well! As someone whose childhood was raised with learning their ABCs on Little Golden, having this fun gem around the house is a joy.
Delightful & quick read for fans of the Alien franchise. A love of Golden Books in childhood and a fan of the films, this was a BIN. Lovely illustrations and well-chosen subjects for each letter. F is for facehugger!
