I am on a binge, devouring this series of picture-and-text books on various countries and cultures. The one on Uzbekistan is great. Informative, with great photos, respect for the culture and a good overview on the serious environmental disaster in the country, particularly in the Western regions near Kazakhstan.

Covers the nation rather well, including the devastating economic program -and ensuing environmental suicide- initiated by Soviets and maintained by the current "president."
