Well presented and easy to read. This book presents the an overview of the culture of Japan in an interesting and accessible way. Don’t expect anything too in depth if you’re already well versed, but a good recommendation if you know someone heading off on holiday in the near future.
This book is the inspiration for me and my daughter to take a trip to Japan in the next decade. Prior to this, I had read books on Ikigai and had come across various things with Japanese culture (like blue zone centurions). But I really hadn’t dug deep in.
My daughter as things go developed a deep curiosity for all things Japan and we used this book to further explore that curiosity. She’s done book reports and other cultural write ups since then, and has even declared that one day she will live in Japan (site unseen 😂).
I am sure there are other books that will claim to be the definitive book on [insert topic]. But Be More Japan is definitely a definitive summary of all things Japan. It’s readable and easy understandable in a way that is inviting. The photography in this book is a work of art in its own right. Getting through this book has only increased our desire to travel to Japan in the next decade.
Looking very much forward to the day that we get proper sushi in Toyko and drink real green tea from the source 🍣🫖
This book is a work of art. The content is excellent. But the presentation of that content is the real star of the show. It's clear that every single aspect of the book was carefully and lovingly considered. Everything from the patterned endpages to the typesetting to the binding, with a textured hardcover featuring a jaw-droppingly gorgeous piece of art by the inimitable Miwa Goto spanning the entire cover, front-to-back.
Speaking of artwork, more of Miwa's art is featured throughout the book and it is just extraordinary. The book is worth the price of admission for this feature alone.
I truly could not recommend this book more highly. I love every single page, and can't wait to dig into it more deeply. It's probably not the last copy I'll buy--it would make a wonderful gift for anyone remotely interested in anything about Japan-history, geography, culture, religion. Or for anyone who loves beautiful, unique art.
The book is a collection of different information regarding Japan - from culture, religion and literature, to most popular instagrammable spots, best food and most visited places for otaku. A bit of everything and anythingc- quite useful for those who are completely new (like me) to the culture of Japan and want to have some kind of idea what to expect. It is also a very good starting point to go more in dept in the different aspects of the culture.
An Eyewitness book for adult readers! This book is half infographics, half encyclopedia entries about various aspects of Japanese culture. While abstract, it is highly informative. I recommend it especially for anyone considering long-term travel or traveling for business and wondering how best to maximize their time in the country.
Armchair travel in style with this gorgeous 2nd edition guide on all things Japanese. The beautifully designed cover scores top marks, delighting this reader who much prefers holding a physical book over an e-copy any day. Inside, gorgeous photos and concise copy make this a highly enjoyable read for anyone captivated by Japanese culture and landscape.
This is such a cool book! I love all things Japan and learned new things about the culture. A deep dive book that covers everything about Japan. Highly recommend checking this out if you are interested in and/or will be traveling to Japan.
