TROPES: ~mafia ~enemies to lovers ~pregnancy ~forced proximity ~kidnapping/captivity
Sofia is a Marino, the enemy of the O'Shea's. Her sister is married to one of the O'Shea brothers and everyone hopes that that will solve the problems between the families. It doesn't. Sofia's dad ends up kidnapping one of the O'Shea brothers, Rafferty, and held him captive for weeks in Sofia's basement.
She finds out and helps him by feeding him, tending to his wounds, and giving him painkillers because of the daily beatings he gets. One day, she finally helps him escape and they get caught. Rafferty ends up kidnapping her in revenge... can they make it work in the long run?
I really enjoyed this one! Ava Gray is a fantastic author and storyteller. I binge read this in just a couple hours. The epilogue was my favorite part. <3
This was an enjoyable, pretty sweet (desipte the kidnappings and beatings etc, I didn't find it dark), reasonably quick read. Best read after Knocked up by the Mafia (The Billionaire Mafia Book 1).
Sofia and Rafferty's siblings get married in book 1, despite their families being enemies. As revenge, Sofia's father kidnaps Rafferty has him chained in a cell and regularly beaten. Sofia discovers this and secretly takes care of Rafferty, eventually realizing she will have to help him escape as her father is going to have him killed. Rafferty takes Sofia after she has freed him and plans to use her as revenge against her father. Both Sofia and Rafferty develop feelings for each other, but due to miss-communication neither are sure of the others intent, so there is uncertainty and confusion with regard to the future of them both.

Rafferty O'Shea is the younger brother of the now head of the family, Liam. He is out drinking getting wasted when he is turned over to Matteo Marino, their family's enemy. He is locked in a dungeon, beaten and will eventually be disposed of, until he is found by Sofia Marino. She helps him escape, but when they are found, he tells her father he will have his revenge on her.
Rafferty does not want to hurt her but he cannot keep his hands off of her. He plans on keeping her at his apartment until his brother finds out, he has his wife's sister. He wants nothing more than to be with her but seems to say the wrong thing to her. The biggest mistake is when she find out she is pregnant and it sounds like he does not want it.
When she vanishes, he will move heaven and earth to find her.

The writing was nice, the storyline flowed relatively well with engaging enough details, events and tropes.
However, the pace was a bit too fast for my liking, especially towards the end, which was around the last 20%. Things just went by super fast and their relationship, which was already insta-love, became 1000xn times more insta-love. I didn’t have time to digest or even grasp what was really going on.
Overall, this wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t that good either. I like the concept and the premise, and think that if things had slowed down a bit, this book could’ve been a lot better, what a shame.
I didn’t like this one as much as I did the first one. Raff didn’t want to accept his feelings for Sofia for most of the book. And he was a bit of a jerk.

This one is pretty average for me. Low angst and low heat. There’s no significant mafia aspect in this, just romeo and juliet tales. The romance was just okay, nothing amazing or made me want to read more. This whole book gave me teen vibes.
It was okay enough to pass time.

Mafia princess Sofia is third child and only daughter left of the Marino family. Her sister Rory married rival enemy Liam O'Shea of the Russian Mafia Family who was supposed to enforcer Dante of the Marino family. The O'Shea's and the Marino had been enemies for decades and the rivalry passed down to the children. Nolan O'Shea was the former Don and he was murdered supposedly by the Marino's. Liam is now the head of the family and the O'Shea brother's had been trying to see who murdered their dad. As the new Don Liam has made a lot of changes to the organization by shutting down all their illegal activities, killing all their enforcers and focusing on their illegitimate businesses. However, this has made Don Marino more psychopathic on top of the fact that his eldest child is married to an O'Shea rival. He has gone on a murderous rampage and now he's as kidnapped the youngest O'Shea brother Rafferty for revenge of his daughter and Liam sins. Rafferty is the third child of the O'Shea clan he has been going through it since the death of his father and wants revenge against Don Marino. He was drinking one night in a bar and contemplating his revenge when two guys came into the bar and befriended him. They got him drunk and handed him over to enforcer Tony Maggiano who works for Don Marino. He took him to the basement underneath the Marino estate and shackled him inside a prison cell beating him several times a day on the order of the Don. Sofia discovered what her dad was hiding in the basement since they hadn't use it in years. What she saw broke her heart, she never knew her dad was such a monster until she witnessed it with her own two eyes and heard the vile and evil things that came out of his mouth. She would sneak away and steal food, water and painkillers and gave them to Rafferty after his many beatings. Sofia was very lonely and isolated without any friends because of her dad's strict rules. So when she stumbled upon Rafferty her heart went out to him plus she made a friend in the prisoner. Rafferty was attracted to her from the moment he laid eyes on her, he loved spending time with her and would look forward to her coming to see him. However, he was planning on using her empathy against her to break out of his imprisonment. When Sofia overheard her dad telling Tony that Rafferty his of no use to him anymore since he couldn't get any information out of him about his family business. He ordered Tony to kill him, right there she knew that she had to act because she couldn't of his death on her conscience. Sofia was reluctant to help Rafferty at first because all their lives they had been told that the O'Shea's is their enemies, plus she didn't know if he was a bad guy or good guy. She broke him out of prison through the tunnels. But during their escape they were caught by her father and his minions, so Rafferty kidnapped her but not before he told her that that he was going to use and her defile her and put a baby in her stomach then drop her back off at his doorsteps. And Rafferty took her back to his apartment in the city and he did what he promised. He deflower her and put a baby in her belly except part where he dropped her back off to her dad. But sometimes the best laid plans doesn't always work out like you plan. It stopped being about revenge and they both started catching feelings for each other when they realized that they had so much in common and that they are just like. Don Marino was tearing up the city looking for his daughter and Rafferty and even got more sociopathic and unhinged. He put out a hit on Rafferty and his daughter to kill on sight. Sofia had fallen in love with raff within the short amount of days that they were together. But Rafferty was unsure of his feelings and told her to stay with Rory and Liam once they got to the family compound which broke her heart. Tony would then kidnapped Sofia after she strayed off the family compound because Rafferty said that he wasn't ready to have children, and being that she was pregnant it was a problem. Don Marino order Tony to put his daughter into the same cell that he had just recently had Rafferty because of her betrayal in helping him escape. He told her that she would stay down there until she came to her senses. Don Marino was a sadistic, deranged, calculated, and cold-hearted. He ordered Tony to kill his in cell because she went and fell in love with an O'Shea man. But Tony didn't get the chance because the O'Shea brother's went there with guns blazing to rescue Rafferty woman and kill Tony. She went back to family who offered her love and security. This was a beautiful book and it was unputdownable.

Doesn’t match up w 1st story imo — Needs major revision
This is the second story in Ava Gray’s latest mafia series. I personally DO NOT consider this to be a stand-alone read. There are numerous reoccurring characters, ongoing storyline and too many details that cannot be adequately explained within a new story. I also found the blurb a little inconsistent when compared to the actual storyline.
** The following may contain spoilers if you have not read this story. I will try to provide only enough information to explain my rating. **
⛔️ Contains references, or detailed scenes, of subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to sensitive readers. These include adult language; derogatory terms concerning women and other mafia families; steamy and detailed intimate scenes involving a dirty talking alpha with dominance, submission, restraints, etc.; violence stereotypical of the genre such as: kidnapping, torture, fighting, assault, subterfuge, coercion, blackmail, threats, murder, etc.
I can overlook a lot and give authors’ creative license in which to tell their stories, but I can only suspend reality so far. No I don’t need, nor want for instance, specific information about a character’s bathroom habits, but when a character is placed in a controlled situation, then certain things have to be adequately covered and explained.
** POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD!!! **
I waited and watched for this story to be released. I really liked the first story, and had high hopes for this one. Not sure what happened, maybe they were written out of order and someone decided to switch them before publishing, maybe someone highjacked the author’s website and submitted the story in her name … but there were quite a few inconsistencies between the two.
These included (but are not all):
— No one remembering that Dante confessed about all he did in the first story. Should not be any questions about what happened when Nolan O’Shea was shot, Rory was shot at, etc.
— The Marinos questioning about whether or not Liam got rid of all of the O’Shea’s enforcers. This happened in the first story and occurred over 6 months ago! No way that they wouldn’t know exactly what actions their enemies (and direct competitors) have taken, especially when Liam has (or is process of) stopped their illegal businesses.
— Rafferty was kidnapped and tortured over multiple weeks. He was kept in a cell and chained in the Marino’s basement. During that time: => He was beaten multiple times per day by the Marino’s new enforcer who was a giant, behemoth, and/or brute of a man. His was kicked and punched all over and his head knocked into walls and floors. There is no way that anyone would survive that without concussions, broken bones, internal bleeding, etc. => There wasn’t a toilet … 💩 Way too late within the scenes there is a couple of lines to address what he was provided, but imo, the entire set up doesn’t work. Just NO!! GROSS!! => Sofe is sneaking down and bringing him food to supplement the small amount of water and bread her dad has been giving to Rafferty. She has also been doctoring him and cleaning him up. There is no way that her dad and his enforcer doesn’t notice that.
I provide the following for readers such as myself that visualize a story as it is read. There are multiple grammatical issues that include punctuation (primarily commas - I stopped documenting these about half way through - quotation marks, spaces), incorrect: capitalization, word choice, and word tense, as well as redundant phrasing, missing and extra words. I uploaded my notes to goodreads for anyone interested.
Love That Challenges the Evil of the Past and Provides Hope for the Future
The Italian Marino’s and the Irish O’Shea’s are Chicago’s version of the Montague’s and the Capulet’s—two warring families bound in a generational competition that endangers what should be each family’s treasure—their children. Beautiful 23-year-old Sophia Bella Marino, with her sparkling hazel eyes, long, thick dark hair and sweet nature, has been educated, guarded and hidden from the world like a priceless treasure by her manipulative father who recognizes his daughter’s value in the role she can play for him in binding the loyalty through marriage—as he had planned for her older sister Rory. Unfortunately, Papa’s plans for Rory were unfulfilled when she fled her dad’s selected suitor, and by chance, met Liam O’Shea, the eldest son of the rival family. And observing her sister and new brother-in-law’s journey in love and happy parenting of the next generation, Sophia longs to emulate her sister’s happiness.
Now, Sophia is the next daughter to fall under dad’s controlling eye, and by chance, she has witnessed her father’s perfidy first hand. Deep in the basement tunnels and vaults of their Chicago house, her father has imprisoned a membe from the rival O’Shea family and is now supervising the torture of Liam O’Shea’s younger brother—Rafferty—Rafe.
And like her sister, Sophia cannot stomach her father’s growing evil and cruelty. She will not become the prize of her father to grant to his loyal agents, nor will she allow this new prisoner to be further tortured by her dad’s minions. And so, when she witnesses dad’s will at the hand of his enforcer, she knew that she could not allow the abuse of Rafe O’Shea to continue. So, using the knowledge gained in childhood hours of wandering and playing in the tunnels, she gathers her courage, food and supplies to use to assist the beaten and chained man.
And, while Sophia anticipated that her acts of kindness and mercy to the abused O’Shea would place her in jeopardy with her dad, she never anticipated the possibility of double jeopardy. She had expected that her actions of providing comfort—food and water—and eventually, leading the O’Shea to freedom would incite of her father’s ire. But, she never anticipated that the response of the freed man whom she guided though the underground tunnels to freedom would result in him venting his anger and strength against her. Despite her assistance in providing him with food and assistance through the tunnels, she is stunned when Rafferty forces her to escape with him across the dark waters of Lake Michigan in a stolen boat and plans her physical submission to his will.
Ava Gray creates a modern tale of family rivalry, secrets, and love, that ultimately lead to love. I received this romance through BookSprout, but also bought a copy for my Kindle collection. I would encourage the author to hire an editor who will proof for typos and grammar issues, especially errors related to pronoun usage.
Part of The Billionaire Mafia series each can be read as a standalone with a sexy and the women who captures his attentions but in the wrong way so hang on and double check that you are buckled up, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love (ALL THINGS TO EXPECT FROM THE MAFIA WORLD). By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter! CAN’T SAY YOU WEREN’T WARNED!!!!! We all know the feud between two families and usually a marriage between the two brings peace between the families well that isn’t what happens between the O’Shea and the Marino. A marriage solved nothing. Sofia Marino is sweet has a good heart, tries to do the right thing her sister married to the head of the O’Shea family so when she finds his younger brother kidnapped, beaten, and being held by her father in her basement he has been there for weeks. She does what she can feeding him, tending to his wounds, and providing painkillers to help with the pain because of the beatings he gets every day and one day their chance arrives for her to help him escape. Rafferty sexy as all get out younger brother to Liam who happens to be the head of the O’Shea family was out having a drink when he taken thrown in a basement, beaten daily, starved, when there is supposed to be peace between their two families until one day an angel walks in helps him in ways she would never know providing strength where he needed it and assistance, a listening ear, finally an escape but he repays her by kidnapping her after nearly getting caught. His plan is to keep her at his apartment until his brother and her sister finds out but he wants nothing more than to be with her but she thinks he doesn’t want her when she disappears he will move haven, earth to find her, will she be okay, will he find her in time, will he be able to convince her that he loves her, he cares for her, will her father pay for the abuse he inflicted on his younger brother without cause, and can they find happiness somewhere on the crazy ride?
Rafferty O’Shea, the youngest son of Irish billionaire Nolan O’Shea was kidnapped by his family’s enemy, the Chicago Italian mob boss Marino. He was chained in the house basement, beaten and tortured everyday by his right hand man to die and rot there as planned. His daughter Sofia found out and would go down to feed and care for him after everyone is asleep. Their bonding led to affectionate feelings for each other. He needs to escape before he dies in the basement so she helped him escape through the tunnel which was used for bootlegging and other smuggling mob activities a long time ago. Her father and right hand man discovered his escape with Sofia and tried to apprehend them but Rafferty used Sofia as his shield and ended up as his hostage in his apartment. The two weeks they were holed up together became intimate and he planned to get her pregnant and send her back to her father as his revenge for killing his father Nolan and for torturing him. But their feelings are changing especially Sofia who is falling in love with her captor. Once they were safe in the O’Shea compound, Rafferty told her to stay with her sister Rory who’s married to his older brother Liam. He never reached out to her after and avoided her but his feelings are conflicted. He wants her but he also wants his revenge. A few months later she found out she’s pregnant. When she was abducted back by her father’s men, Rafferty knew then that he loves her and could not live without her. Will he get her back? Will she forgive him? This was a good story and I recommend reading it to find out the outcome.
25% for me. So, the Sofia person is portrayed as an angel hearing/watching somebody being cruelty beaten again and again. But she gives him painkillers, antibiotics for his wounds, leftovers and she has erotic dreams about him, chatting with him for hours! She has nothing to do whole day, wandering carefree at the house but got offended when he called her princess. The way things looked like, she found a hobby or a human pet to spend som fun time because her life was very boring. There are a few lines of her reasoning explained that she is afraid to help him escape because he may kill someone she loves. I need more to understand her dilemma, conflict but was lost in the how striking his eyes were and so on. There was her mind.
The tough mafia guy got caught while drinking him self to death and chatting carelessly at the bar with unknown men! Hahaha that was fun actually how stupid he is, thinking about revenge but having zero skills. He doesn't looks like the sharpest tool in the box. His thoughts and the way he speaks were girlish and ridiculous. One clever thing he said in these 25%. He said to Sofia, you get a kick out of my beating and torturing! Yeah, let's not forget the scene with the broom... That was that, 1$, so, not a big lost.
I thought Stolen By The Mafia by Ava Gray was an exciting and spicy book. I thought this book was original, had a captivating storyline, and loved all the drama. This is the second book in the Billionaire Mafia series. I thought it was beautifully written, with vivid detail, and had me losing sleep just to see what would happen next. I loved the characters in this book. They were witty, had amazing chemistry, and had all the angst.
Sofia is such a caring and loyal woman in this book. I loved her determination to be loyal to her family no matter the situation. I loved the fight that she put up to survive everything that was thrown at her. Rafferty was broody and loyal to his family. I loved his growth throughout this book. I thought Sofia and Raff had scorching hot spice and loved the push and pull they both experienced in this book.
If you love authors like Brooke Summers you will enjoy Ava Gray.

This is the 2nd story in The Billionaire Mafia Series where Liam and Rory’s siblings, Rafferty and Sophia find themselves thrown together by the darkness of her father. When Rafferty finds himself kidnapped in a dark cell by Don Marino he knows things are not looking good for him, then the beatings start and he’s not doing well. One night he sees an angle and realizes it’s Rory’s sister and she does everything she can to help heal and feed him. Over time they discover similarities and when Sophia is given a chance to help Rafferty to end this feud between their families she’s faced with a difficult decision. Sophia has shown Rafferty genuine kindness and compassion only for him make an Eliot decision ensuring his escape. These enemies to lovers come to terms with their choices and it’s beautiful how Rafferty does what’s necessary to keep giving his protection and love to Sophia. When Rafferty O’Shea is taken by the Marino mafia family as revenge, he never imagines that Sofia Marino would be the one to help him escape. He turns the tables, though, and kidnaps her. While together, the two form an intimate bond and catch feelings. When Sofia’s father takes her back, it might be too late for the pair to live happily ever after.
I really enjoyed this book even more than the first one. It felt more like a Romeo and Juliet story to me. Sofia and Rafferty caught feelings fast for one another, but the beginning of their relationship creates complications. Even though Rafferty started out only to hurt Sofia, he quickly changed his mind about his plans. Sofia’s father Matteo Marino seems pretty evil, so I’m hoping he gets his due in upcoming books. If you like “mafia light” stories, then this series is for you!
I recommend Stolen by the Mafia. Read it and let me know what you think - I’d love to discuss.
Rafe is out one night drinking and ends up getting kidnapped by Marino family. He is locked in the basement and beaten up. Sofia is curious about what is going on and goes down to the basement and finds Rafe. It upsets her that her father is doing this and she wants to help Rafe. Rafe uses a Sofia to get free and then he takes her hostage himself. Its not long before things heat up between them. Sofia actually starts to have feelings for him but is she just revenge for him? Will he admit to how he feels before its too late?
This is a great story that will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story, Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

OMG! Wow, this book was phenomenal to read, the story was exhilarating and the characters were really captivating. This story was about Sofia and Rafferty O'Shea's, their families have been enemies for a decade then someone shot Raff's father and since then Liam the oldest brother is getting away from the crime and turning their empire into a legit business. Raff is still looking for his father's killer and now he is captured and held in a dungeon. Sofia the daughter of his enemy eventually helped him escape he took her with him now she is held against her wishes. This is definitely one book you cannot put down.

Rafferty O’Shea is being held captive in the dungeon of his enemy, the Marinos. His brother is married to a Marino but the feud between their families is still an issue. When an angel comes to his rescue, he decides to take for himself and for revenge.
Sofia can’t stand that her father is holding a man prisoner and cruelly mistreating him. She does what she can to help him until she is able to free him. Now, they’ve traded places and she’s his prisoner, tied to him in more ways than one.
Very entertaining and steamy story with kidnapping, enemy to lovers, betrayal, redemption, forced proximity, danger and suspense. Well done!

I completely loved this book and the way the author narrated the story blew my mind. The hot moments between the main leads was on DOT filling my tummy with butterflies.
I like how one marriage issue between a family lead to another one and then all settled. The whole plotline was explained in detail not suppressing any supporting character despite the book being a small novel.
Regarding the captive and kidnapper moments ... it was highly spicy and at the same time before Raff kidnapped Sofia, the way she helped Raff at her father's underground cell by healing his wounds was really adorable as well.
This for sure a fantastic book with two kidnapping moments and I devoured the whole book.

This book is going to grab your attention and hook you in. Talk about feuding families…the Marino and O’Shea’s have been enemies for years. But when when Sofia’s sister marries Liam O’Shea, she begins to question everything.
Then she comes across Rafferty, who is in her father’s dungeon and beaten every day. She begins to take care of him, bringing him food and meds. But when she helps him escape, he ends up kidnapping her when he almost gets caught.
This book was so good. It had everything…mafia, captivity, forbidden romance and so much more!.

A great second book in this series the O'Shea's and the Marino's are long time enemies but the oldest daughter Rory fell for and married Liam O'Shea and has never been forgiven by her father. In retribution he kidnaps and tortures Rafferty O'Shea, he is helped by Sofia Marino she helps him to escape but they are found by her father and then Rafferty kidnaps her to escape and then things really get interesting. There is something definitely happening in her fathers world but no one knows what yet and he is becoming more unhinged. But in the end she and Rafferty find their true love and baby makes three.
Sometimes saying the wrong thing will tear you apart. Rafferty is held captive until he escapes with the woman who helped him. Sofia feels she has betrayed her family for what's she thought was a good reason. Will these two be able to have their happy ending with so much animosity between them? This was an interesting story of rival families wanting peace but also not trusting each other to do so.

Rafferty and Sophia are from rival mafia families, but there has been a marriage recently that makes them in-laws. He is looking for clues to who killed his father and gets captured and put into a dungeon. She finds him there and helps him escape, but now she is under his control and can not escape. Spark fly but is that enough? Good character building and storyline. Really keeps you on the edge and you can not put it down. Well done.

This is the 2nd book in the series and it is very good. The h’s father had kidnapped the H and was holding him in the basement, he was being tortured daily. The h is a kind, beautiful sweet woman who couldn’t stand to see him being abused. She was sneaking food and medicine down to the H, she overhears her father saying he was going to kill the H, she decided to help him escape. Then she H kidnaps her, along the way they fall in love and there’s an unexpected pregnancy. The plot and characters were very well written. Good ending.
Second book in the series and it’s awesome. Rafferty is the youngest O’Shea brother and has been held prisoner by his family’s enemy the Marinos. He has been out for revenge and now it’s gotten stronger. Sofia Marino, the youngest daughter finds him being held in the basement. She has been lead to believe the O’Sheas are their enemy but can’t believe in him being tortured so she sneaks in to help him. She knows that her father intends to kill him so she helps him to escape and then becomes his prisoner. This is a fast easy read with a wonderful HEA. Looking forward to Conor’s story who is Liam’s twin and Rafferty’s brother.
After her sister married her father's enemy, Sofia has been questioning the feud. When she stumbles upon Rafferty, her new brother in law, she knew she must help him. When she came to help him, Rafferty thought he was being saved by an angel. Together, they managed to escape and along the way bonded over their family. This was another fun book in the series. Well written and very enjoyable.

When Sofias sister married into the O'shea family she thought it would end the family fund, only to find her brother in law Raf held captive in the basement, she helps him, feeds him and helps him escape only to be taken by him, but will this be a rescue of love? Wonderful characters and a great storyline to go with it. Rafferty (held prisoner by Sofia's father) and Sofia meet under dire circumstances but they are known to each other through the marriage of their respective brother and sister. This is a darker Mafia story in the enemies to lovers trope that will blow you away.

I expected a bit more from this book. More plot, more build up between the characters. It's a shortish book but I've read others that manage to build the relationship between the love interests a lot better. This was just okay. I didn't really feel any connection to any of the characters. I thought the MMC was kind of dumb too.
