Weddings today are so much more than just the Big Day—the parties start months ahead and continue well afterward. This portable guide is perfect for anyone involved in the many parties surrounding weddings. In Part 1, "It's a Party!" Anna Post covers the vital stats of each party, be it an engagement celebration, couples' shower, (bachelor)ette party, wedding week spa getaway, rehearsal dinner, reception, farewell brunch, or belated reception. Part 2, "Party Smarts," is packed with party-giving expertise to make every occasion a success: planning tips; figuring out finances; choosing food, flowers, and music; invitation how-to; handling uninvited guests and RSVP slackers; finding the perfect gift; making introductions and toasts; and more. Looking for ways to throw a super shower on a budget? Wondering if it's OK to e-mail invitations? Tongue-tied writing thank-you notes? Need ideas for adding just the right touch of style to everything from a garden barbecue to a seated dinner? It's all here. Whatever the occasion and whether you're the bride, host, or guest, Anna Post helps make every wedding party wonderful.

Emily Post-inspired wedding comments - yes, please! If anyone would know the most thoughtful things to consider for a wedding (or any events in general) it would be the Emily Post Institute. Her great-great-grand daughter, Anna, follows nicely in her courteous footsteps.
The "Emily Post Wedding Parties" guide is divided into two easy-to-navigate sections for all of the must-have wedding information. The first section pertains to everything surrounding the wedding parties and events, including when to bring gifts, the attire for different types of events, and tips to make the events easy and fun for all involved. The second section discusses the details of the parties, such as the all-important speeches, gift ideas, food, decor, and budgets. There's useful information in every chapter for both guests and hosts.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone remotely involved in a wedding right now. The entire book is very easy to read, conversational in tone, and promotes graciousness and courtesy in every situation. I especially like all of the parties that are common in weddings, including some traditional ones I had never even heard of, so that we all know which parties are intended for whom and why.
If you're in the midst of wedding-related anxieties, this is the book I would carry around with me.
I've seen tons of reviews knocking this book for having no new info... "I already have tons of wedding-planning books, and this is not even an in-depth one." But I like it. I'm not a bride. I'm a maid of honor. I am not planning a wedding. I am planning two wedding parties. It's perfect for what it is - a small book that covers the traditions and planning methods for individual wedding parties (like the rehearsal dinner and the bachelorette party).
Recommend for bridesmaids and groomsmen, not necessarily for brides (who will obviously have way more info to work with in other books). It has great info on what's supposed to happen and when, which is very helpful.
