They say love is tender. They say love is true. But what we know is that love can be sweet, and sometimes bitter too.
Sweet Bitter Love is a heartfelt, heartwarming, and heartbreaking anthology composed by twenty authors from across the globe. From journal entries to stories and letters, Sweet Bitter Love explores the intricacies and complexities of connections, relationships, and, most of all, love, from all angles.
Sometimes all you need is a cheeky cat, a trip abroad, an angry letter, a soothing presence, a personal understanding, a fit of passion, or a chance to reconnect the fragments of your broken heart. And sometimes all you need to do to find it is to turn the page.
If you enjoy heart-wrenching stories, raw passion, and self-love, then Sweet Bitter Love is for you.
Twenty authors from around the globe have banded together to create this one-of-a-kind anthology composed of poetry, love letters, journal entries and more. Spanning from Maine, Ancient Greece, London, and beyond... Covering the most important moments of love-- the sweet, the bitter, and the in-between. Rediscover the magic of love with both fictional and real life accounts, and hopefully fall a little deeper in love with yourself.
Cathrine Swift is an author, designer, and book doula. Passionate about writing steamy romantic fiction embedded with responsible representation and diversity, Cathrine aims to help fill the world with books bursting with characters of all religions, races, sexual orientations, and identities.
As so many authors do, Cathrine began writing at a young age, her first book, naturally turned out to be about dragons and princesses. (The second was science fiction.) At age eight, she won a short story contest, and is still milking that glory-- as you can see.
She has dedicated her adult life to learning, practicing her craft, and uncovering her true voice through heartbreak, hardship, and human interaction.
Recognizing how writers and creatives have changed her life, Cathrine strives to utilize her growing talent to do the same-- hopefully leaving the world a better place than she found it.
One way she does this is through building an epic community of writers and authors who elevate one another. She also offers book doula services, helping indie authors through their debut's and offering marketing support.
When she isn't writing, she is homeschooling her daughter, daydreaming about getting back to NYC, decluttering a closet, catching up on the latest Marvel offering, or reading fan-fiction and drinking a matcha latte.
Her favourite trope is enemies to lovers and if you ever want to talk Star Trek, Star Wars, or Doctor Who, she's your girl.
ARE YOU FEELING THE L.O.V.E because I am!!! I wanted to introduce you to you such a captivating book that I have been SO FORTUNATE to read.
SWEET BITTER LOVE 🌸
An BEAUTIFULLY written anthology the covers the topics of girlhood, womanhood, friendship, love, and what it means to be human.
What can I say accept this was my VERY first anthology. An anthology that I absolutely adored!!! I TRULY had all the tissues because I went on an emotional whirlwind😩. And all the while I kept reading and understanding the true meanings of love, friendship, close bonds, family etc. I couldn’t help but to think of the WONDERFUL BOOK COMMUNITY.
This book was JUST DIFFERENT. And I LOVEEDD that. It made me laugh, tear up, and absolutely SOB like no other. It’s honestly was my “BEST FRIEND” And it was the first time a book has CRUSHED ME, In the best WAY of course!
i’m so glad i was able to get the chance to read this book!
It felt like a warm hug to my soul. To that intimate place we sometimes don’t let others so close. But, why not? The people worthy of knowing our soul exist. They are around somewhere, and if you don’t know who they are: read this book, and think about who these amazing stories and poems remind you of.
This anthology was full of surprises. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I don’t think it was the rollercoaster of emotions I just went through. I feel like love was depicted in its entirety throughout all the different authors sections. The pain I felt, the butterflies I felt, the grief I felt, and just the overall swell of emotions that were scattered across this anthology has left a lasting impression on my Valentine’s Day.
With all this in mind, the story that gripped my heart the most was Cathrine Swift’s “Dear Stupid Journal”. In such a short, limited format, I was blown away by how deeply invested I became in Aiden’s story. It was beautiful to see his development. I also loved how depression was depicted in this first hand account. I felt so attached to him throughout.
Overall, I really felt connected to this anthology, and I feel like it is a must read this Valentine’s season.
This collection of short stories, poems, and love letters was a lovely way to work up to Valentine's Day. I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of genres woven throughout. My favourite stories were Heat Wave (always down for a myth retelling), Stripes Are Always in Style (as a bird owner, I teared up), The Romantic Witch's Spellbook (also a tear jerker), and Dear Me (made me want to write my own self-love letter). Thank you, writers, for a beautiful collection of stories!
A wonderful collection of short stories, letters, and poems to capture the heart and mind. Stand out mentions for me were Catherine Swift, Sarah Gael Whittaker, and Allison Sipe. I love the variety and that not all were fluffy and sweet. It truly captured the range of emotions that being in love can evoke.
Well done to all involved on this project. Outstanding!
This is my first anthology of poems and short stories. This was such a beautiful representation of all the different sides to love. The good and the ugly. Love, grief, loss of friendship, loss of memory. All things that make us human beings.
I loved all the letters to self about acceptance and relying on others for community. The ones that had me sobbing were 'Not Like Other Girls' and 'Cerebral Supernova'. There were several talented authors who wrote this together and they all had amazing stories that totally nail the female experience. I think everyone should read this!!
Really enjoyed this anthology of love letters, poetry and short stories. I enjoyed the different writing styles and found new authors I'm excited to read more from. It was a perfect holiday read and love that the proceeds support a good cause.
Can't wait to read more. You won't want to miss these wonderful stories of love, loss, love again and more.
Thank you for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
A beautiful collection of short stories and poems celebrating all the ways love comes into our lives. The anthology is well curated, spanning from the highs of romantic love, the uncertainty of committing to love, and the willpower to survive losing love. It even touches on the special bond between humans and animals. A quick, wonderful read, but be warned: have a box of tissues at the ready!
