WHAT IT'S ABOUT
A hockey star who can’t wait to skip town. A videographer whose career relies on him.
The Denver Glaciers’ new right-wing hockey player, Connor Greene, is far from jolly this Christmas. Being traded to a new team 8 days before Christmas and returning to his hometown of Mountain Springs brings more than festivities— it brings back teenage memories he’d rather forget in the city he never wanted to live in again. And now, he has to squeeze in video shoots of Christmas festivities in his hometown to help boost his new team’s reputation. The bright spot in all of it is the intriguing woman behind the camera.
Katie Allred is a spirited videographer with big dreams for her fledgling videography business, and her newest client will make or break her business. If Connor shines as the star everyone sees, her footage will be gold. But if it spirals down like their disastrous first shoot, her business dreams could shatter like thin ice.
As Connor finds himself out of his depth in a sea of wrapping paper, mischievous kids, and a Santa Hat family competition that puts MasterChef to shame, he starts to see more in Katie than just her camera skills. But he’s been secretly planning a hasty retreat from this town for good, and Katie fears getting too close to a man who might leave as quickly as he appeared.
MY TAKE
What a lovely end to the series. I cannot even imagine what it would be like to have a job that could send you off to a new work location with so little time that you couldn't even grab clothes to wear. At least not and still be a civilian.
Connor and Katie have more of a history than he realizes. But she remembers who he is. And he is so full of angst at returning to his hometown, a place where his family fell apart and he became an angry teen, someone he didn't like being. He doesn't need the reminders.
But then he runs into Katie. Literally. And she's not very nice to him either, just like the punk kids in the store where he's shopping for those items he didn't get to collect before coming. But then he sees her again when he's invited to share the holidays with his franchise's publicity guy. And it's her family.
And Connor managed to impress her, enough that she totally gets sucked in. But the going, while fast, isn't easy, it's totally swoony.
And there's even a series epilogue. *sigh*
