Three new cases, three mysteries, and three potential friends trying to find their places on the team.
Thea has made it to Apprentice and is exploring where her magic can take her when an outbreak of mysterious magical attacks sweeps NOLA.
Bodies are piling up and strange dreams are the only thing connecting the bizarre deaths, a group of people thought to be members of a dark cult have gone missing, and a powerful cursed object seems to be responsible for a rash of violent crimes plaguing the city.
Can Thea’s nascent abilities be the key to unraveling all three cases?
That will depend on whether her team can work together instead of getting in each other’s way.
Thea makes a breakthrough when she makes it her business to help a teammate deal with his personal problems. Her effort earns his loyalty and the protection of another teammate who appreciates her willingness to go the extra mile for someone in need.
Overall, the plot is good. However, the storyline feels fragmented, and it seems to jump around a lot. The flashbacks don't always benefit the advancement of the story. The Chapter header "verses/quotes" are distracting most of the time. It felt like a few sentences were used over and over - sometimes within the same page or two. There are times Thea seems to have a decent grasp of her magic and other times when she talks about how very little she knows. It's hard to get a grasp of what is going on with Kira based on how others react to her. Mia is pretty much being used by Thea most of the time - I'm sort of shocked she can call her a best friend. I might try one more book to see if the series settles in a bit more.
Thank God Thea had AIDS backing her up as she learns how to become a mage.
The Arcane Investigation Division has been working Thea, Brandon, and Jax very hard on learning physical, and practical along with trying to teach working as partners. Thea is a little slow on partners because she has always worked alone. Then Aid gave them a new case. Someone is killing people in their sleep! It winds up giving Thea a chance to fight an old enemy. It also causes Thea and Brandon to come very, very close to dying.
I really like Thea in these books. She is starting to get better and better at her magic and learning how to use the well of magic. She still searching for the books on the steps of mages, but she hasn’t found any yet. One of her coven leaders is into some really bad business, and Thea has to try to solve that problem before more people die. I also really like her little extra terrestrial cat, which can also turn into other creatures. Unfortunately, for Thea, she has ignored her best friend so much that she feels that she might have actually lost her, but on the other hand, she is making very good. Progress with her teammates and getting them to trust her. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.
This is not your everyday Witch tale! You may find a few similar elements to other Witch stories but there are quite a few differences also. One similarity is the setting of New Orleans, Louisiana. But there most of the similarities end.
A lot of mystery with multiple twists and turns along with a budding romance. I’m not sure who the budding romance is between though as there is more than one possibility.
I enjoyed this book and it's characters and villains
The story moved right along as Thea, Brandon and Jax fight against magical transgressers as agents of AID .There's plenty else going on as Thea tries to learn about her parents deaths and what it has to do with the legendary grimoire of Ambrosius. I will definitely read the next book
Dark magic is afoot; but, who is really behind it!?! More friendly development of the other dimensional one. Interesting building of the group. I don't think Folsom is as 'clean' as she appears. What do you think? Join me as I follow the author in this tale!
Spells & rogue witches wanting more power, that's this book's theme. The author has our main POV gelling with her new team as they work thru another case. This hits close to home as well since it involves players from our POVs coven. Good thing our POV has friends who care about her because it takes everyone to end this case.
I tried, I really did. I hoped I would like it more than the first one, but no. I can't stand Thea. She's selfish, thoughtless, willfully ignorant, convinced she's the smartest and most special person on the planet, and grates on my last nerve to the point where I found myself hoping she'd be killed off and the side characters could take over as the main characters.
Awesome series, always entertaining and exciting!!!!!
Condgratulations to Isobel Campbell and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such interesting and e,xciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
I like the series. The characters are interesting. The plots are good. Plenty of action. But, just not a favorite. Don’t know what is missing or why it’s not really grabbing me. Still am looking forward to the next installment.
Thea and the guys plus Kira end up chasing the Black Rose Cult. In the beginning they did not know the Thea knew someone in the cult. People are dying in there sleep but why and how?
It carries on from the first and certain threads are fairly neatly tied up, but it's a bit of a routine story with stock characters. I might read the next one but it hasn't grabbed me enough to want to find out what happens next.
Builds on first book of the series and the construction of community service to witch under appreciated population of hedgewitches. Solving the ongoing case while leaving the reader with more questions about Thea's parents death.
I was suprised how good the second book was. She does an excellent job describind/explaining her universe. Dream magic, you all think it's someone sending you a vision, or message. She gave a very thought out response on what it can actually do.
Secondary character development continues at a good pace. Backstory is bringing everything together with added tidbits to entice you to the next book . Definitely recommend this series
Brandon’s actions rarely match his words. He does not deserve the attention the other characters give him. He has no respect for anyone else needs but his own.
Fast read, follows on from previous book but, more magic, more action. Dreams that can you!!!. Characters that are realistic, believable fun and diverse. Did I mention, magic? Main baddy causing way to much trouble.
A cult group is using dark magic in peoples dreams to kill them. Kira helps fight Thea's Nemesis. Mia convinces the AID to give the Hedge witch's defense lessons.
