This series keeps getting better and better. Her Last Cry is atmospheric, well written, tense and hard to put down! I love books set in snowy settings and in Her Last Cry, Delaney and Leo are not only up against a diabolical killer but also up against the elements.

As a snowstorm rages a woman is killed in a remote cabin in Kearney, Wyoming. As Delaney and Leo survey the murder scene, Delaney takes chase as a figure runs through the snow. Could this be the killer? Is this an eyewitness? The person of interest gets away and Delaney and Leo are left to wonder who would want to kill this woman?

Things take a more interesting turn when another person dies, secrets are revealed, and Delaney learns she knows the killer! Holy Moly!

I was glued to the pages and read this book in one day. I didn't want to put this captivating page tuner down! I found this book to be atmospheric, tension filled, and well written. I enjoy both Leo and Delaney and their working relationship. There is a certain type of tension there and I am curious where this may lead. I also enjoyed the sense of danger that was present in this book.

Another thrilling addition to the series!

4.5 stars

HER LAST CRY (Detective Delaney Pace Book #3) by Pamela Fagan Hutchins is a chilling, edge-of-your-seat crime thriller/police procedural featuring Detective Delaney Pace in Kearney, Wyoming. This is another action-packed addition to the series that I could not put down. I would suggest reading this series in order because Delaney and all the auxiliary characters continue to evolve and there is an overall plotline that intertwines throughout the series involving Delaney’s family.

Detective Delaney Pace and Sheriff Leo Palmer are called for a welfare check on an up-and-coming activist and politician in a remote vacation cabin. They discover her naked dead body tied to the bed. After searching the scene, they check out the other cabins and Delaney is attacked, and the suspect gets away. The local activists are trying to stop the wealthy outside invasion that is destroying the pristine Wyoming terrain.

As Delaney and Leo search for a killer, a county commissioner with a grudge is also setting Delaney up and interfering with her adoption proceedings. If that isn’t enough, Delaney discovers her brother is back as the body count increases and they still have a traitor in the Sheriff’s office. As all the puzzle pieces begin to come together, Leo’s family is taken and he and Delaney must find them before they become victims, too.

I love this series! It keeps getting better and better. Delaney is such a strong and resilient protagonist. Leo is a great pairing for her. He loves his tablets and updating technology in the office while Delaney uses hers as a coaster. Delaney can handle any weather in her hometown, while Leo is a fish out of water. It makes for some laugh out loud situations. All the secondary characters are fully developed and believable. The crime plots have many twists and surprises that keep you turning the pages. The tension is high and seldom lets up with everything happening, both personal and criminal.

I highly recommend this crime thriller/police procedural series!

Her Last Cry is book 3 in the Delaney Pace series by Pamela Fagan Hutchins. This series has become one of my very faves and I look forward to reading each additional book. Her Last Cry will keep your heart racing, your breath gasping, and the pages flying as you can't believe how much is going on in one book! Annabeth Dillon is found dead all alone in a cabin. She's been tied to all 4 bed posts so that her body is star shaped across the bed. There's a scarf tightened around her neck and a dark figure looking in the window.. Is this a sexual experiment gone wrong or did someone want to kill Annabeth? Delaney and Leo have their work cut out for them as chasing the possible killer in deep snow proves very difficult! A bit later one of Annabeth's colleagues is found dead. Who is killing these women and why?

Her Last Cry gets more intense the further you get into it and you cannot put this book down! Some of the twists that are in the book will leave you speechless! I loved this book and rate it 5 stars with my highest recommendation. If you haven't discovered this series yet, now is the time! I love Delaney and Leo and can't wait to read more books with them in it. There's a big shock for Delaney towards the end of the book and it will blow your mind! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Her Last Cry in exchange for a fair review. #HerLastCry

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Her Last Cry is an ideal story for readers who enjoy an edge-of-your-seat, hard-hitting, complex mystery. This is the third book in the Detective Delaney Pace series, which has become a favorite of mine. Hutchins takes her readers on a chilling and twisted journey that keeps them guessing until the final page.

Reeling from the events of their previous case, Delaney and Leo desired some downtime. However, their desires were shattered when a call for a wellness check led them to a murder scene. The victim had aspirations of climbing the political ladder all the way to the White House.

At first it appears as if a night of passion went wrong, but evidence indicated murder. The questions of why and who were at the forefront of Delaney and Leo's minds. The murder of their main suspect only added to the complexity of the situation.

Talk about intense! Her Last Cry kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The suspense was relentless, never giving me a moment to relax. The numerous twists and turns guarantee a page-turning experience as one tries to piece together the myriad of puzzles.

Along their career path, Delaney and Leo made enemies determined to destroy them. In this installment we see the lengths to which such an enemy would go to destroy their reputation. From the start of the series, readers are made aware of the intense attraction between Delaney and Leo. Because of their work relationship, a personal, intimate connection was off-limits—at least, that's what they told themselves. Despite being a strong, determined, and independent woman, insecurities cast a shadow over her life. These insecurities fed her fear of moving beyond a professional relationship with Leo.

The numerous subplots can be overwhelming; however, Hutchins masterfully intertwines them all into the main mystery. The end result an intriguing story that was difficult to put down. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

I thought this 3rd book would have been the last of the serie, but it doesn't seem like it.. Beware, it ends on a cliffhanger. Otherwise, it was a nice serie, loved the characters, even if at times I was a bit confused.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.

In book 3 we notice a change in Delaney, a softness and the love she has for her niece, and Callie. A wellness check in the mountains shows murder and she is assaulted, with snowy weather around them, an.the assailant fleeing.
The ending of becoming a family was great and maybe a new job for Delaney
This series has it all adventure, murder, love and family, that readers will enjoy.

Her Last Cry is a prime example of what happens when an author can’t focus on a linear plot and so meanders, hopelessly lost in the weeds. Pamela Fagan Hutchins is a gifted storyteller, but reading this piece of her work reminded me of listening to my grandmother try to tell a story. Oh, she’d get there eventually, but HOLY MOTHER OF GOD she took the long way! Hutchins does just that—takes the reader on a circuitous journey to an ending that offers no resolution, making it tedious and difficult to follow her path and not feel cheated when the trip is over.

In short, too many characters; too many spidering story lines that squandered opportunities to fully develop any one into a meaningful plot; and too many loose ends hurriedly explained in a conclusion that is anything BUT “conclusive” and instead reads as a thinly veiled promo for the next installment.

Three stars for effort—I had to take two to make up for feeling betrayed by the last ten pages.

Her Last Cry is my first introduction to author Pamela Fagan Hutchins as I don't like to read crime series in order. And I'll be honest I never felt like I was at a disadvantage starting with book three.

As it's an easy story to pick up and read and I was pretty much hooked from the start. Thanks to the setting, the characters and the storyline.

As acting Sheriff Leo Palmer and Investigator Delaney Pace are asked to do a wellness check on someone staying at a remote cabin and what they find when they eventually arrive is a shocking scene.

But is it a sex game gone wrong or murder?

That's what the pair need to determine and fast.

Yet, with Delaney about to adopt her niece Kat and another teenager Carrie and Leo looking after his sister and nephew it's fair to say they both have their hands full and their work cut out.

However, when evidence points in a direction neither expected all bets are off. As Delaney risks everything to finally stop those she loves being hurt and put a dangerous criminal behind bars.

That's if she survives long enough.

And with twists, and intriguing personal life and secondary characters. Her Last Cry was an extremely entertaining and engaging introduction to Investigator Delaney Pace and I would happily recommend it to others.

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of Her Last Cry. 😊

This is the third book in the Author's Detective Delaney Pace series - I would recommend reading the previous books to set the characters and storyline in place

When a much admired , local activist , Annabeth Dillon is found murdered in an isolated cabin after going missing in a snow storm questions arise - why was she at the cabin ? was she meeting someone ? who killed her ?
When a colleague of Annabeth is also found murdered soon after Delaney is convinced the murders are linked
Dna evidence left at the scene is soon identified - she knows the killer . But someone is determined to hamper the investigation and throw obstacles in her path ...........she must risk everything to bring the killer to justice even at the expense of her own life
We finally see the culmination of the previous books storylines , where everything comes to together .......... or do we ?

This is an entertaining read , full of twists and turns , a real page turner - I hope this is not the end of Delaney's story as I have enjoyed reading about her path to adoptive mother/detective leaving her old life behind

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Dangerous Delaney is back!! Expect to read about her always being prepared, having to make some tough choices and allowing her vulnerability to show. In addition to giving NASCAR drivers their what for in Squealing Tires Shelly and being her boss badassery self.
I was chuckling with glee during the first few chapters because Leo bumbles with a snowmobile and gets super jealous. Hutchins suckered me in with the new love interest but I quickly came to my senses and am firmly Team Leo!
My new favorite character is Freddy. That kid has the makings of a great cop and his airhead mother needs a lot of pointers.
After torturing me with the second book, Hutchins titillated me by this one’s ending. What’s going to happen??? It’s like gorging on an entire bag of chips and realizing you have to wait for the next serving.
Write fast!!!!!!!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the early read.

Reading the story for me it spelled out all of the details of what happens behind closed doors when tracking down the subject to a crime. The writer certainly did a wonderful job with the character creative writing between Leo and Delaney, however there were some moments Delaney was getting on my nerves. Be a grown up and tell Leo how you feel. The kids act more adult sometimes. The story is entertaining for people who love the behind the scenes of tracking down their perp.

Deputy Investigator Delaney Pace is back in this third book in an exciting series that takes place around Kearny, Wyoming.

Recurring character Leo Palmer is now the Interim Sheriff and works with Pace as she contends with murders, politics, activism, kidnapping, and the return of her psycho brother. She also works on preparing a permanent home for two young girls and Palmer has his own family issues in the story.

I highly recommend this book which is full of non-stop action.

Delaney knows just how dangerous the killer is, but she’s prepared to risk everything, even her own life, to save the life of another innocent victim. Will she find them in time?

Review:
I've truly adored getting to know Delaney Pace over the first three books that Pamela Fagan Hutchins has based around her, and I'm a little sad that I don't have another Delaney on my TBR, but apparently book four will be happening, so that's made me very happy!

In the meantime, what to say about Her Last Cry? Delaney is as hot-blooded as ever, and she's fast become one of my favourite detectives. She remains unconventional and defiant with authority, and as she hunts Annabeth's killer, she tracks down clues like a regular bloodhound.

The tension in Delaney's personal and work life positively sizzles, in both delightful and frustrating ways. Her family come under fire, and her relationship with the wonderfully written Leo Palmer is exhausting! It's hard to say more with no spoilers, especially if you've not read books 1 and 2, but this series is stunning!

“ Her Last Cry" by Pamela Fagan Hutchins is a riveting addition to the Detective Delaney Pace series. As a reader who eagerly devoured the first two books in quick succession, the third installment continues to deliver on the high standards set by the author.

The story begins with the mysterious disappearance of Annabeth Dillon, a much-loved figure in Kearney, Wyoming. Detective Delaney Pace is called in to investigate, and the plot quickly thickens as Annabeth's lifeless body is discovered in a remote woodland cabin. The tension escalates with the revelation of dark ties and a mysterious figure at the scene, setting the stage for a gripping and suspenseful narrative.

Hutchins skillfully weaves a tale of murder, secrets, and a twisted killer on the loose. The intricate plot unfolds with unexpected twists, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The author's ability to create a sense of urgency and maintain a brisk pace adds to the overall intensity of the story.

The character development of Detective Delaney Pace continues to impress, and her determination to unravel the truth, even when faced with personal danger, adds depth to the narrative. The exploration of the victims' lives and the potential connection between the murders enhances the complexity of the plot.

As the story progresses, the revelation of DNA evidence belonging to someone Delaney knows raises the stakes, creating a gripping sense of suspense. The author adeptly balances the mystery with a sense of emotional resonance, making "Her Last Cry" a thoroughly satisfying read.

In this third installment, Pamela Fagan Hutchins reaffirms her skill in crafting compelling mysteries that captivate readers. "Her Last Cry" earns a well-deserved five stars, leaving me eagerly anticipating the next chapter in Detective Delaney Pace's journey. Hutchins continues to excel in delivering suspenseful narratives with a perfect blend of mystery and emotion. I love the character development and am looking forward to a blossoming romance (I hope!)

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐½ (3.5 stars, rounded to 4)

Her Last Cry, the third installment in an ongoing series, proves to be a compelling mystery that skillfully weaves a complex web of subplots and characters. As a newcomer to the series, the initial disorientation caused was a little confusing, but I adapted quickly enough. In fact, after that first chapter, I quickly realized that I didn't need much prior knowledge at all, which I appreciated - it meant the book could stand strong in its own right without relying on a story already told.

From the outset, Her Last Cry immerses readers in a multifaceted narrative, introducing numerous subplots that intertwine with the central mystery. Delaney and Leo both I loved. While the abundance of storylines occasionally makes the narrative feel a bit overwhelming and confusing, the intricacy of the mystery itself adds a layer of intrigue that keeps the reader hooked.

The characters in the novel feel authentic, and the emphasis on relationships, especially those between Delaney, Kat, and Carrie, as well as among friends, adds a touching and relatable dimension to the story. The dynamics between characters are well-explored, and the complexities of trust are masterfully portrayed, keeping readers on their toes as alliances and motives remain elusive. The mystery of Annabeth's death was truly compelling, and especially after we meet her early on in the book, we're particularly shocked right at the end.

This constant uncertainty about whom to trust adds a fascinating layer to the narrative. The suspense and tension created by this ambiguity contribute significantly to the overall appeal of the book, making it a page-turner for those who relish the unpredictability of a good mystery.

While the multitude of subplots and characters may be challenging to navigate, the payoff in the form of a gripping mystery and well-drawn characters makes Her Last Cry a worthwhile read. I think I'll be picking up those other two books sometime in the near future.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Her Last Cry, the third novel to feature Deputy Investigator Delaney Pace of Kearny County, Wyoming Sheriff’s Office.

Delaney and Interim Sheriff Leo Palmer are asked to do a welfare check in a remote cabin. Annabeth Dillon, a prominent environmental lawyer with political aspirations, has been reported missing from the cabin. They soon find that Annabeth is not missing but dead in an apparent sex game gone wrong. More deaths follow, culminating in the kidnap of some close friends.

I thoroughly enjoyed Her Last Cry, which is a tense, action packed read with never a dull moment. I’m not quite sure where to start as there are so many twists and interconnecting relationships that keep the reader furiously turning the pages to see what will come next. What I do know is that it finishes on if not a cliffhanger then a big hook for the next in series. Bring it on, the hook has whetted my appetite for more.

The novel starts with Annabeth’s murder and what seems like a quick solution, but then it gets complicated as other players and agendas start to appear. There is a fair amount of misdirection that I fell for, making the solution a real surprise and a neat twist on my guesses. Needless to say Delaney’s not so dead brother has a role in proceedings, but perhaps not as prominent as previous outings.

The novel is not just about the investigation as it features family and friendship as well. Delaney and Leo are still fighting their mutual attraction with the author inserting a neat wrench in proceedings in a timely manner. It made me laugh. Meanwhile their families get caught separately in the machinations of others. In Delaney’s case I think it was particularly well done as I found it tense and sad.

Her Last Cry is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Favorite Quotes:

She was poison on relationships, plain and simple. And theirs would be no casual fling, of that she was certain. It would be a barn burning, take-no-prisoners relationship with a capital R ending in destruction with a capital D.

Carrie shot Delaney a look so snake-like that Delaney expected to see a forked tongue when she opened her mouth to speak.

She had champagne and caviar tastes. He had a ramen and Busch Light job.

These cases are like one of those thousand-piece puzzles of gray clouds where every piece looks the same and half of them are nearly interchangeable. And it’s not until you find the right piece that you even see you’ve forced a wrong piece in.

Ignorance is always the best defense, and I’ve perfected that one.

My Review:

This wily author has mad skills as I felt like a passenger in their vehicles while holding on for dear life as Delaney raced around like a Grand Prix driver. The storylines were easy to follow yet complex and multi-layered with hits of well-placed humor and amusing observations. The characters themselves were complicated, deeply damaged, and intriguing. Everyone is guilty of something. I adore Sheriff Leo and hope the next installment goes a bit easier on him and allows him to catch his breath... and Delaney.

Her Last Cry (Detective Delaney Pace Book 3) by Pamela Fagan Hutchins is the third book in this series, and it does not disappoint.

A young woman has vanished into thin air. Detective Delaney Pace is called in when Annabeth Dillon is reported missing during a snowstorm. The search leads to a remote woodland cabin, and Delaney is distraught to find Annabeth’s lifeless body on the bed, dark red ties gripping her tight, long black hair covering her face. Searching the scene, she spots a dark figure at the window and rushes to give chase, but he gets away. Could it have been the killer?

I really like all the covers in this series; the pictures set the stage for the story.

Delaney is quite tenacious and won't let up until she finds justice for the victims she encounters.

Again, this book left on a bit of a cliffhanger. As a reader, you will need to decide if you want to continue with the story to learn more about the character and her past.

Overall, it is a good story with a good plot, suspense, and edge-of-your-seat action that a reader likes in crime dramas.

I would recommend this book and this author. I hope there are more books to come.

This is book number #3 in the Detective Delaney Pace series. I highly recommend this series! There have been so many twists and turns, and I cannot wait to see where it goes next!

When Delaney Pace was a child, she witnessed the murder of her beloved father but cannot remember who the killer was no matter how hard she has tried to. Will she ever discover the truth?

Delaney is back in her hometown working as a detective. She is raising her niece, Kateena, who was orphaned after her parents were killed. She’s also looking after the orphaned teenage daughter or her childhood friend.

Delaney is called to a remote cabin when a woman is reported missing. Finding her lifeless body, Delaney must determine who her killer was and why she was targeted.

When a colleague of the victim turns up dead, Delaney suspects the cases are linked. DNA evidence from the scene shocks Delaney but she is even more eager to solve this case when someone important to her disappears. Will she find the killer before anyone else fall victim?

✨My Thoughts✨

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’m on a roll with this series, I really don’t want it to end but I’m hoping we get more than three books!.

The prologue started off nice enough then it took a sudden dark and sinister turn that was so INTENSE and creepy.

We start off with a surprise birthday party for Leo at Delaneys bar (I really hope they get together in this book, they would make fireworks together that’s for sure) with her two soon to be adoptive daughters in tow she’s got her work cut out going from a single women to a ready made family all in a few short months.

They soon have to leave the party due to a call about a missing woman staying in an isolated mountain cabin, is it a sex game gone wrong or something more sinister ?.

WOW, WOW and just WOW this book had everything I wanted and more, it’s certainly not lost any of its freshness and uniqueness with it being the third book it’s just got better.

This case was an absolute firecracker.

I love Delaney and her new found family and life even though they keep getting knocked down they keep getting up and fighting.

This series is now one of my firm favourites.

Book #3 in the Detective Delaney Pace series. Each book could be read as a stand alone but there are over arcing story lines that a reder could miss if they'd not read all three books. Plus, the story lines are original and well written. The characters are unique with each one playing a prominent part in the story. They are quick read books, building tension and mystery as the story races towards clues, twists and turns that end in surprise reveals. Pamela Fagan Hutchins has invested Delaney Pace with stellar characteristics that make it easy to root for her success.

HER LAST CRY begins with a missing person report, a well known activist in this small Wyoming town. When the woman's body is found in a compromising scene, more questions than answers are raised. Another death occurs but DNA found on the first body gives Detective Pace a name for the killer. THEN.....the story turns quickly into a race. Can she find the killer before they kill again? You'll just have to read the book.

Third book in the series starring the wonderful Delaney Pace. She does not waste too much time on words, but she makes up for it by her actions.

Killers bigger and stronger than her? They won't stop her from coming after them and fight them with all she has. Even injuries are things to be cared about later, after the culprit is being put behind bars, but when she has to direct her attention elsewhere, she will give this priority too.

No matter how hard killers try to throw her of their scent, she will find them. There is one very slippery one though...

Family and good friends come first for Delaney. Will she ever find time for love?

Leo was sent to the village with a special assignment. Will he be able to come up with the desired result?

Another strong story, with a tough female deputy investigator, but under that iron cast exterior she has a heart of gold. 5 stars

In book 3 of the Deputy Delaney Pace series, Delaney and Interim Sheriff Leo Palmer are asked to do a welfare check in a remote cabin. Annabeth Dillon, a prominent environmental lawyer and activist with political aspirations, has been reported missing. They soon find that Annabeth is not missing but dead. As Delaney and Leo delve into the investigation, the plot thickens with the murder of one of Annabeth's colleagues. DNA evidence leads to a shocking revelation of the killer's identity. When someone close to Delaney and Leo goes missing, the stakes are raised to an even greater height. The unexpected twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The conclusion of this book lays the foundation for the continued adventures of Delaney and Leo, without ending on a cliffhanger.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and author Pamela Fagan Hutchins for the opportunity to review the advance copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Deputy Inspector Delaney Pace and her partner, interim Sheriff Leo Palmer are back in another fast-paced thriller! When activist lawyer Annabeth Dillon is found dead at a Wyoming cabin retreat, what looks like sex-gone-bad but turns out to be murder. Finding the killer isn't as easy as it looks to be at first, and Leo and Delaney are dealing with their own issues at the same time, from Leo's jealousy when his visiting childhood friend turns out to be an old flame of Delaney's, to roadblocks to Delaney's adoption of her niece and a foster daughter and the return of her criminal brother. The action never stops, but for me the best thing about this series is the characters. Delaney is a strong, competent, kick-ass woman and Leo is her perfect foil. I'm pretty sure there will be at least a book 4 in the series, but after binge reading the first three I'm a little miffed that I can't just keep going!

Secrets are unraveling as danger lurks around every corner in the third book in the Delaney Pace series by Pamela Fagan Hutchins and I'm really enjoying sinking my teeth into this cast of players! We uncover some secrets as more mount with each passing page as Delaney continues to try to solve the mysteries surrounding her family. The characters are addictive and the suspense is high pitched. I really enjoy the core players of this series and am looking forward to more to come from them. I'm still hoping that sexual tension will pan out into a happily ever after for Delaney and Leo.

I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone that enjoys a whodunnit with lots of twists and turns along the way as an ongoing cast holds our attention and brings us new cases with each book.
