Talk about terrific! Her Silent Bones: A gripping crime thriller with a heart-stopping twist knocked my socks off! Whew! I have not read this author's books before and boy was I missing out! This book was suspenseful, gripping, and dramatic. I listened to the audiobook and thought the narration was nicely done.

Detective Delaney Pace has returned to Kearney, Wyoming after the deaths of her brother and sister-in-law. Her eleven years old niece, Kateena, needs her and Delaney will be raising her. Delaney doesn't even get the chance to settle in when a body is found, and she is thrown into investigating the murder. Delaney is shocked when she discovers that Lila, her sister-in-law, and Kateena's mother is the dead woman. But wait! She died in the car crash with Delaney's brother, didn't she? Then Kateena goes missing......

The stakes are high, tensions mount and Delaney and her partner are on the chase for a clever and diabolical killer. Time is of the essence, and they pour everything they have into the investigation.

I enjoyed the suspense, sense of dread, and tension in this book. I thought the narrator did a fantastic job bringing this book to life. There are a nice number of twists and turns that kept the pacing moving at a nice pace. There is also a shocking reveal that I did not see coming! Another plus is getting to know just enough about Delaney and her past that has me wanting to know more about her in future books in this series.

Gripping, tense, dramatic and shocking.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

HER SILENT BONES (Delaney Pace Book #1) by Pamela Fagan Hutchins is an exciting and fast-paced new crime thriller/police procedural series featuring a tough and determined female detective in small town Kearney, Wyoming. This is a new to me author and a very promising start to a new series that I am looking forward to following in the future.

Delaney Pace returns to her hometown after ten years of ice-trucking to take care of her eleven-year-old niece, Kateena, who has been orphaned with the death of her parents. She goes to the county sheriff and gets her job back as an investigator. Right away she is thrown into a murder investigation with a new detective from California who is talented with computers, but out of his depth in the wilds of Wyoming and possibly hiding an agenda of his own.

With one woman dead and another missing, the killer then raises the stakes when he takes Delaney’s niece. Can Delaney discover the identity of the killer and rescue her niece before it is too late?

This is a crime thriller with multiple surprising plot twists that kept me turning the pages, especially in the last few chapters. The plot throughout moves at a fast rate with ever escalating stakes. The crime/killer plot in this book is solved, but there is an over-arching plot involving another antagonist and questions from Delaney’s past that are uncovered and still need answered in future books. So, there is a cliffhanger for that plotline. Delaney is street tough, tenacious, and intelligent and takes a beating in this story, but just keeps going. While others see her as intimidating, she loves her niece and bulldog and is willing to help others down on their luck. She is a complex character that surprised me on several occasions, and I am looking forward to seeing how her character evolves in future books.

I recommend this captivating start to a new crime thriller/police procedural series with a strong female protagonist, and I will be checking out other books by this author.

This is a DNF for me. The reasons I didn't finish are firstly, I never cared to come back to reading it. I started reading it over 2 weeks ago and I am at 40%. It takes me 2-5 days to read a book normally, so says enough.

Secondly, I went to Goodreads reviews to see others feelings to help me decide if I should continue or DNF.

The book was spoiled by a reviewer - who did not include any spoiler warnings in their review - so, that made up my mind. The ending based on the spoiler review doesn't sound like my jam and I don't care to find out when I already know anyway.

Please everyone, always include spoiler warnings in reviews!! You hurt the author by not doing so.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my advance copy on exchange for my honest review.

*I do not rate books that I do not finish.

A tantalising opening novel in what promisrs to be a fantastic new crime series The narrator did a good job of telling the story. I felt tge emotion of the characters. I like the fact the accents werent used too much . The story its self was well written and the narrator did a good job of bringing the story to life with the various characters.
The characters arcs written into the dialogue and the various twists and turns make this a must listen series i would recommended to anyone. It appears to be a murder disapperance but it is so much more. Look forward to the next one . Thank you netgallery and publisher and author and narrator for this cracking 5 stat listen.

This story was mediocre in nearly every way. It kept me mostly interested, moved at a reasonable pace, the twists at the end were OK, the killer was disturbing and scary, but there were so many elements going on that it muddied up the water. I can't even list all the stuff happening, either in the foreground or the background, and at one point I had to remind myself this was a tiny town in Wyoming and then none of it seemed remotely plausible.

The torture methods employed by the killer were particularly barbaric, and the explanation at the end felt like it came completely out of left field and left holes.

All that said, I saw it through to the end and was eager to find out the resolution, but there was little closure. I wouldn't call it a "cliffhanger", but all kinds of new threats popped up to try to hook you into the next book. I don't regret my time reading this but there are too many bad guys and conspiracies, so I think I'll be walking away here.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

In the mood for an exciting Police Procedural, then look no further. A powerful and fast-paced tale, awaits you in Her Silent Bones, book one of the Delaney Pace series by Pamela Fagan Hutchins.

Her Silent Bones by Pamela Fagan Hutchins is one of those police procedurals that will keep you reading into the wee hours. Despite this being the first experience with the author, the attention grabbing synopsis created high expectations for the story. Well, it didn't disappoint. Her Silent Bones as the first book sets the tone for the rest of the books in the series. It delivered a powerful and fast-paced tale filled with mind-blowing twists, a well crafted mystery and non-stop action. The characters featured all bear emotional scars from their traumatic past. There were those who chose to channel their experience into something positive by trying to find justice for the victims of crimes. Then there were those who chose to crime as their pathway. They also had secrets, which delivered shocking revelations. It was interesting getting to know the characters, especially the killer who called himself the delivery man. The deeper one goes into the story, the reason behind the moniker is revealed. Now, whilst the mystery behind the murders was solved, there were still some unanswered questions. Most of which relates to the shocking revelations. Her Silent Bones delivered a solid start to an exciting new series and I look forward to picking up the next book.Stephanie Cannon narrates. This is my second time experiencing her work. I enjoyed listening to her then, and this time was no different. She did an exceptional job with both the male and female voices.

Delaney Pace has spent the last 10years as an Ice Trucker but now she needs to return home for her brother and sister-in-law have been killed in a car crash leaving their daughter , Kateena , an orphan .
Needing a stable job , to help raise her Kateena , she re-joins the local Police force ......... but one of first call outs is to a body found on a mountainside . To her horror she identifies the woman's tortured body - its that of the supposedly dead sister-in-law - where had she been , who has tortured her , who was the woman killed in the car crash ?
When Delaney's investigation leads her back to the place her father was killed her own past traumas are brought back to life , she has never discovered his murderer . Just what had her father and brother been involved in- now Kateena is missing , where is she , who has her ?
It has now become a race against time for Delaney to identify the killer and to find Kateena before its to late.

This police thriller is fast paced and full of twists and turns around every corner - jut who can Delaney trust ?
The book sets up the background to Delaney's dysfunctional/traumatic upbringing and the life she had made for herself ...... a life now turned on its head - family comes first !
I look forward to reading the next book in the series

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

A first in series gripping thriller set in Wyoming from a new to me author motivated me to snatch up Her Silent Bones and anticipate the reading experience. I’ve been meaning to try Pamela Fagan Hutchins’ books for a while and when I saw this was first in the series, I figured now was the time.

Her Silent Bones starts out when Delaney gets the call that her brother and sister in law have passed away and her orphaned niece needs her. Going back means facing a long history of family past drama. Delaney left town and her job in law enforcement years before. She saw her dad get murdered and his case was never solved. Currently, she’s working her own brother and sister in law’s case. Now, she has to face all that while picking up her old job and trying to raise her spitfire of a niece.

Delaney is given a partner who is new to the area and rural detective work and their first case is a murder victim who, shocking first twist (and not a spoiler since it’s in the blurb), is her thought to be deceased sister in law who has been tortured. And, the case gets complicated when the killer escalates and her niece, Kateena, goes missing. The clock is ticking to find her and get to the killer in time.

Her Silent Bones is a solid rural- small town setting police procedural and I liked Delaney as the principal character though her ‘chip on the shoulder’ attitude did wear thin with me at times. She’s tough, abrasive, even, and takes quite a licking. Her past was dramatic and her present is shaping up much the same. The setting near the Big Horns of Wyoming was well painted and there were some good shadowy twists and turns in the plot along the way. I confess I got squeamish near the beginning when the evil done is detailed out, but the rest of the book settled into casework and less gruesome scenes.

Turns out this was a two-pronged mystery with the current case and some shocking leads toward Delaney’s dad’s death. Her past and family drama is coming out now and that mystery will carry over into the series. Her partner, Leo, had secrets like he was not in Wyoming willingly and there was attraction there that was low key because of the case and Leo’s storyline was rather under-developed at this point. The final reveal was a surprise for me and I’m still processing how I feel about bits of the reveal.

I’ve read similar crime thrillers with similar characters even, but that didn’t stop me from appreciating Her Silent Bones and looking forward to seeing where things are going for Delaney and the rest. This was grittier than I expected at first, but I settled in and recommend this one to those who like a bit of dark and a tough woman detective with their crime thrillers.

I rec’d an eARC via NetGalley to read in exchange for an honest review.

Her Silent Bones" by Pamela Fagan Hutchins is a gripping start to the Detective Delaney Pace series. First, I want to thank the publishers for sending me an ARC of this book! This will be published January 16, 2024!

This is my first book by the author but I love a good series and the plot seemed intriguing. The plot intertwines the detective’s past with the current murder case. There is good depth added throughout the story and the plot continues to thicken as you read on, making this book more of a thrill. There are a few twists right off the bat within the first ten chapters which I think helps keep reader hooked. I love when a book throws different curve balls at you.

The writing was a bit detached for my liking and I did struggle at time with the flow of the dialogue. Some of the story was also a little predictable but that’s ok! Overall, the story itself is good and I have hopes this will be a fun series. The pace of the story was done nicely and I did enjoy the characters/their development throughout the book. But the flow really made it hard to read. Oh well!

Nevertheless, "Her Silent Bones" is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves thrilling mysteries and detective/murder books. Although, it wasn’t my favorite in the genre, it was a fun read.

Her Silent Bones is the first book in the new Detective Delaney Pace series. The setting is a small town in Wyoming. I am looking forward to reading the next two books in the series.
This thriller debut is fast paced and keeps you engaged trying to figure out what is going on. And….there is a lot going on!
Delaney Pace is one tough lady! She isn’t going to take anything from anybody at anytime!
The ending was unexpected to me. We are also left on a cliffhanger. Which makes reading the next book in the series high on my TBR list.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

It seems my 3 star 🌟 is very much in the minority so please read it yourself and see if you just might love it. It was good enough. Small town, big murders, a feisty cop returning to town just as the murders begin. It was well written. Well plotted but I hated the end, I know it’s the first in the series and is therefore a cliffhanger but it wasn’t for me. I wasn’t mad on the narration either, I think that actually made the whole thing a 3.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookature Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.

A super chilling killer and a big twist near the start of the book really gripped my attention The murder that Delaney Pace is investigating just got personal!

For a tiny town, there was an awful lot going on, which made it feel a little far-fetched and it did drag in places, but it’s a solid start to a new detective series and lots of elements of the story ready to be continued in book two.

I really liked the small town vibes in this one. There are a lot of charcters to remember in this one and who are the "bad guys", the "good guys', and the "local guys". We are led to believe some events but only to find out they were not exactly how we thought they were.

This book is number 1 in a series and you will need to read book 2 to get more answers, which is fine for some books but this one I didn't love that it ended that way.

Thanks Netgalley for my ARC

A great start to a series and one that I hope maintains it's clever storyline. At times I was a bit lost, but I feel that was probably more the fault of a wandering mind than anything else. This was a great police procedural, and I would love to know more; particularly about the background of Delaney.

Her Silent Bones. My fellow readers. What an A-ma-zing ride this was. The Pace name will be a name that you will not forget for quite some time. Detective/Deputy Sheriff Investigator Delaney Pace, is a bad you know what.
I always love it when a strong female character with charm, wit, intelligence and a poker face that reveals nothing. Her Partner Leo, who has years of experience over Delamey as an officer. He tries to stay ahead of Paces special skills as he works beside her. It makes you wonder. Where did she learn those special skills?
Pace returns home, to pick up the mantle from where her older brother Liam, has left off. Who would have thought that one unofficial speed chase would set off so many landmines. Readers sit back and kick your shoes off. Get ready to immerse yourself in a psychological thriller that has some interesting twists that are something of a surprise. A few of them may have you saying “Well, I did not see that coming”.
I will give you this one little hint. Pay attention to the wording. They are not typos. From the moment that I read the first word, I said to myself, “ hands down, this is going to be a good book. And you know what?
The writer did not disappoint me. Oh my fellow readers. The antagonist called, The Delivery Man is one of the many characters who had me dedicated to finishing this book before my bedtime. The Delivery Man’s character is truly one of the most psychotic and evil human beings that is rotten to the core. The writer cleverly created a character who managed to become a major part of the story’s plot.
The number of levels that The Delivery Man traversed just blew my mind. This character’s mission and or goals that crosses every line imaginable no matter the cost or how important they are. It makes you wonder who “they” are doesnt it? I loved the intensity during the research and discovery of evidence by DeLany’s team. Team meaning Leo.
Leo immerses himself in the nuts and bolts of discovery, as his new partner/ boss runs the streets of Kearney. Some of the people of Kearney believe that Delaney is like John Wayne. Maybe Clint Eastwood. Perhaps even the Rock. I was impressed by the determination and the drive that Delany’s female character reveals during her hunt.
Leo contemplated over a number of times of running back to California. Literally, main street, which wasn't too far away. (Just Right outside his office door). He could do a dead run straight out of town. Leo knew something was brewing in the town of Kearney, but he didn't have all the pieces to his puzzle.
The Delivery Man had some idea what was happening. I was anxious to take an exciting ride through the book. I squealed with joy as I followed along with Delaney to figure out who is terrorizing the town of Kearney while locals are disappearing during the light of day. Suspicious phone calls and other questionable characters lend hands to some horrific discoveries in the desert under the cover of darkness. As Delaney tries to figure out the pieces for Leo, she works hard at learning her new role of being a mom to her sweet little orphaned niece, Katteena.
I really enjoyed the suspenseful actions from the characters that pushed the unknown boundaries involving some dark theories and unforgivable actions. Step by step the writer leads their readers to revealing information that could expose some unimaginable truths. Delaney and her partner Leo work under the most intense pressure involving life or death. The question you have to ask is whose? Readers I am on that train of, I can’t wait for the next installment from Deputy Pace and her team of misfits.
I give this book two snaps and a - Aunt Delaney. Can we go back to Ice Truck Driving now? Until next time my fellow readers. Read on!

Her Silent Bones (Detective Delaney Pace Book 1) by Pamela Fagan Hutchins is the first book in this series.

The story starts with a gruesome killing and then doesn't let up. Delaney is a hard-core character. She is a bit abrasive but sure of herself and fighting her own demons. I loved her niece and the dog Dudley.

The story has some jaw-dropping revelations and twists, and it's a good crime thriller for the first book. The story has determined characters who persevere, with heightened tension and suspense. A good start to this series. I have the next two books and look forward to reading them and getting to know these characters better.

The story does have a cliffhanger ending, though. I would recommend this book and this author.

Her Silent Bones (Detective Delaney Pace 1) by Pamela Fagan Hutchins
Bookouture, 16th January 2024
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Synopsis:
Fifteen years ago, Delaney Pace watched her father’s murder.
Now, having never truly recovered from losing her father, Delaney is devastated when her brother and sister-in-law are killed in a car crash. She heads back to the rugged cowboy town of Kearney, Wyoming. Her niece Kateena is just eleven, and Delaney will do anything to keep her safe.

There’s another killer on the loose, and he’s already taken his first victim. Delaney’s heart pounds wildly in her chest as she recognises the victim. It’s her sister-in-law: Kateena’s mother, Lila. But she died weeks before. Didn’t she?

With Kateena traumatised all over again, when Delaney links Lila’s murder back to the place where her own father was killed, she realizes she must face her own dark past to catch the man responsible. Back at home, Kateena should be in bed sleeping soundly, but her room is empty. Kateena is missing.

Can Delaney uncover the truth behind the killings and save Kateena before it’s too late?

Review:
Another new detective series from Bookouture, and this one takes us to Wyoming, where Delaney Pace has returned home to take care of her niece.
Delaney is sassy, with a penchant for driving fast and talking back. I like her already! She's a tough cookie who's been through a lot, but the author has written her with a touch of vulnerability. Blink, and you'll miss it, but it's there. I really felt like I lived this book alongside Delaney, felt every emotion, thought, and feeling and gave every eye roll too!

Pamela Fagan Hutchins has great talent at storytelling and character writing. My heart was in my mouth at points during this, and I'm dying to see what comes next, so I'm moving straight on to book 2!

She begs for her old job back, to stay in this little Wyoming town for her niece.
It has a good fast plot, that covers the killers thoughts as well as Delaney past of secrets to her niece being take. One can't turn the pages fast enough in this

Her niece Kateena is just eleven years old and Delaney will do anything to keep her safe…Now there’s another killer on the loose, and he’s already taken his first victim.New to the local police force, when a body is found on a secluded mountain trail Delaney is called to the scene. Surrounded by imposing pine trees, a young woman lies still in the moonlight. Gazing into her dark, unblinking eyes Delaney’s heart pounds wildly in her chest as she recognises the victim. It’s her beloved Kateena’s mother, Lila. But she died weeks before. Didn’t she? There’s evil lurking in this town and I’ll stop at nothing to hunt down the truth and deliver justice. With Kateena traumatised all over again, when Delaney links Lila’s murder back to the place where her own father was killed she realizes she must face her own dark past to catch the man responsible. But little does she know that the killer has already made their next deadly move. Back at home, Kateena should be in bed sleeping soundly, but her room is empty. Kateena is missing…Can Delaney uncover the truth behind the killings and save Kateena before it’s too late?

My Opinion

This fast-paced thriller makes for a great series opener. I was less than halfway through this book when I knew that it was going to be a series I would continue. Delaney Pace arrives in town just as there is a killer on the loose. This was one of those books that I was reluctant to put down although life often got in the way, but nevertheless this is a book that I would highly recommend.

4.25⭐

Former ice trucker Delaney Pace has returned to her hometown of Kearny, Wyoming and a job as an investigator at the sheriffs department after the death of her brother and sister-in-law. So she can care for her eleven-year-old niece Kateena.

Yet, the accident that killed them is not as it seems. As Delaney is called to a crime scene in the mountains and as soon as she sees the body she recognises it as her sister-in-law Lila.

But how can that be? As Lila died weeks ago in a car crash along with her husband didn't she?

And as Delaney starts to dig she's taken back to the murder of her own father and past traumas she's never wanted to face.

But what had her dad and brother been involved in?

And when Kateena goes missing Delaney will stop at nothing to find out the truth and bring her niece home safely.

However, she's in a race against time, and those she can truly trust are very few.

And with twists and turns, intriguing characters and edge of your seat moments Her Silent Bones is an entertaining and enjoyable read. That I'd happily recommend to all.

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of Her Silent Bones. 😊

WOW!!! I loved this! This was a fast-paced thriller and I loved this one!
Delaney Pace has spent the last ten years as a trucker but she has to put that in the past because her brother and sister-in-law died in a car crash and she had to come back home to take care of her niece Kateena. She comes back and takes a job with the local law enforcement and her first case is a woman found murdered on a trail. Once secrets start coming out everything becomes challenging for Delaney, and then everything hits close to home. It gets intense!!! She also has a new partner Leo, and they are trying to figure out how their partnership will work. Will they be able to stop the killer before he murders again?? Check out this one for an absolutely intense, suspenseful book that will keep you on the edge of your seat!!
I loved this book! The audiobook was amazing! The narrators are amazing and they fit the characters very well! Thank you Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for the treat of reading and reviewing this one!

Her Silent Bones was my first Pamela Fagan Hutchins book, and it will not be my last. I enjoyed this book as it is a pretty standard detective novel, with the difficult background of the main character, and the coming back to the hometown where the tragedy happened. However, there were twists and turns in this book that kept me on my toes.

Delaney comes back to Wyoming to step into the detective role that she had left 10 years earlier. It ends up being both easier and much more difficult than she anticipates. She discovers things about those close to her family that shock her and those around her.

The things I really enjoyed about this book:
-The main character drove a big rig and a muscle car. Not typical for a woman- awesome.
-The book is told through the points of view of multiple characters throughout the book.
-The pace of the book keeps your attention throughout. I did not get bored while listening to this book, and I recently dnf a book that others thought was *good*.
-The twists in this book were excellent. Often when people say there were twists they never saw coming, I do not understand how they missed them, however in this book, I thought they were very well done and not over the top.
-There is a lot of diversity within the cast of characters, it isn't just all white people with money.

The things that I didn't enjoy as much:
-Even with the twists throughout the book, the book does have an aspect of predictability.
-The character development of the second deputy could be more in-depth and not as vague- but it does give a good segway into the second book.
-The ending didn't seem to flow with the pace or the style of the rest of the book, but again, it was still enjoyable.

I will definitely be reading the second instalment of the Detective Delaney Pace series. I look forward to seeing the further character development of the main character, along with Leo her partner.

I want to thank #netgalley and #BookoutureAudio for this listen, but all my opinions were my own.

Wow! What a fabulous audiobook! I thoroughly enjoyed my first Pamela Fagan Hutchins book, including the fabulous narration, by Stephanie Cannon.

The storyline was terrific and quite unique, and it had me hook, line and sinker. I absolutely loved the badass protagonist, and her law enforcement pals. Some other characters, not so much, especially the main meanie. I was definitely sleuthing my way through this one, trying to work out who was behind the spate of crimes and why. I absolutely raced through the second half of the audiobook! That twist!!

I simply couldn't fault the narrator. Stephanie Cannon was amazing, with very believable accents and deep male voices.

I'll definitely be reading (or listening to) the other two books in the series!

A big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an eARC of Her Silent Bones. It is due for publication on 16/1/24.

WOW! This is the first book I have ever read by this author. I went into this book with zero expectations as it works best that way for me with a new author. I was NOT disappointed. The story wasn't like any of the others I've read. There was enough twists that I didn't guess who was pulling the strings till close to the end! I liked how there was some back story on Delaney. Her niece is a little spitfire! Some of the terminology was different for me but was easy to follow. I loved the tie in with the postal references for someone calling themselves a delivery man. I wish there had been a little more back story on Leo. You can tell he isn't there on his own free will but there wasn't any details on who put him there or why exactly. I hope that is explained more as the series goes on. There were a few grammatical errors but I think those will be fixed before release day. I look forward to books 2 & 3! Thank you for this ARC!
