Review: Going straight into this from book 1 was just like picking up a second season of a thrilling crime drama. The main characters are familiar, and you're looking forward to following them on whatever journey comes ahead. Well, buckle up crime thriller fans; this book is an extremely bumpy ride!
If anything, the action is even more gripping than in the first book, with Delaney’s hot-headedness and smart mouth both sparking from the fire that partner Leo has lit under her ass. The interplay between these two is fantastic, the plot is full of unseen twists, especially at the end, and I cannot wait to see what happens in book 3!
This book takes up where the first leaves off , which I would recommend reading first to set the characters and storyline in place .
Delaney and her colleagues have been called out to the local high school changing rooms ...... the star football player , Noah Pinehurst , has been found dead , When two teenagers vanish from Noah's memorial a few days later Delaney begins to think the may have a killer on their hands . Delany's investigation is being hindered by many who have their own secrets that they will do just about anything to keep just that .... secret . Matters are escalated when one of the missing teenagers is found alive but covered in blood and dirt - where has she been , what happened to her , where is her brother ? When Delaney hears the description of the kidnapper she doesn't know what to believe ......... he's dead , isn't he ?
This is another fast paced thriller , keeping the reader guessing to the very end - I look forward to the next book in the series ................ will Delaney finally discover the whole truth ?
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Her Hidden Grave is book 2 in the Detective Delaney Pace series by Pamela Fagan Hutchins. This series grabbed me fully in book 1 and book 2 takes it to another level! Wow! I love this series and it is one that I will read with every new release! Delaney is called to the local high school as a student has been found dead. Delaney has no idea that the student was the star quarterback for the football team and he was found by a teammate in the locker room. He was unresponsive and already dead when his teammate arrived. He tried to revive him with no success. Noah Pinehurst wasn't liked by many people as a person, but people loved his ability on the football field. He was arrogant and mean to his teammates and most other students. Noah's Dad, Hugh, is a wealthy businessman that made Noah the young man that he was.
A couple of days later at Noah's memorial, 2 other students go missing. They are friends of Noah's and kids of a longtime friend of Delaney's. Delaney has just reconnected with her old school friend when her kids go missing. Who could be doing this and why? As Delaney and Leo investigate and interview people no one saw the 2 kids who vanished. They're just gone. One of the missing teens is found in the woods with severe injuries. A family helps her out and drives her home. She tells Delaney that she was left for dead and buried alive. Luckily, she woke and could dig herself out. When she describes her kidnapper, Delaney thinks she knows who it is and it's someone close to her! That person is supposed to be dead, though! What in the world is going on?
Can Delaney and Leo find the kidnapper and killer before they strike again? This person is very dangerous and has killed before. He will stop at nothing to protect himself. When someone else goes missing, Delaney is frantic and races to find them. This book will keep you on edge throughout as you try to figure out who's doing it and why? As the killer gets closer to the characters we care about you can't put the book down! I rate Her Hidden Grave 5 stars with my highest recommendation. Read this series and now! If you love thrillers this series is for you. Great characters, great stories, fantastic writing, and so much suspense! I'm a huge fan of Delaney Pace and can't wait to read more! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Her Hidden Grave in exchange for a fair review. #HerHiddenGrave
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Her Hidden Grave, book 2 in the Detective Delaney Pace series transports readers back to Kearney Wyoming. Once again Hutchins take her readers on a suspenseful journey where past and present danger collide, and emotions run high.
In this installment Delaney is called to a crime scene at the local high school. The star quarterback was found dead in the locker room supposedly from a drug overdose. Was he murdered or was it an accidental overdose were the questions on Delaney's. However, when a childhood friend was found dead in the same manner and with her two children missing Delaney knew without a doubt that there was a killer at large. At center of it all was tainted drugs.
The story pulls the reader in from the first page. They mystery keeps you guessing and the suspense keeps you turning the pages. Delaney and her partner find themselves in a race against to find the killer before they strike again. The investigation wasn't the only thing Delaney and Noah had to contend with. Their growing attraction to each other poses a threat to their professional relationship. The situation was further worsened by Noah's secrets. The secrets when revealed led to the breakdown of trust in their relationship.
Her Hidden Grave delivered a fast paced read that will keep readers on their toes. Readers looking for a story with an intricate plot, a clever mystery and lots of suspense then Her Hidden Grave will make the perfect addition to your reading list. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
I loved book 1 and immediately started this. This had a great plot with plenty of twists to keep me hooked from start to finish. I read it in two sittings as I didn't want to put it down.
When Detective Delaney Pace is called to a local high school in her small hometown of Kearney, Wyoming, she is devastated to find the body of star football player Noah Pinehurst slumped in the changing room, his team shirt hanging behind his lifeless body. Days later, two of his friends vanish from Noah’s memorial. Haunted by memories of her own father’s murder, Delaney is convinced that another twisted killer is stalking Kearney looking for victims. Can she find them before anyone else dies?
Hutchins tortured me for most of this book. I had an inkling whom Leo was keeping tabs on but have to confess that I temporarily succumbed to a dark place where he was concerned. Crispy got on my last nerve and I wanted him left for the wolves and I was happy with his outcome. I know why Hutchins did a major plot but I’m diving into book three immediately. I keep being impressed by Delaney the indestructible. Damn that woman takes a hell of knock. And for another bad character I hope they will receive their day soon. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the early read.
Book 2 in the Delaney Pace Series by Pamela Fagan Hutchins was excellent. It was a well written crime novel full of surprises, full of heart pounding excitement, and with a bit of romance added.
Her Hidden Grave is the second story featuring investigator Delaney Pace and this time it's the death of Noah a young aspiring American footballer and star of his high school team that she has to solve.
But was his death a tragic accident or something far more sinister?
That's what Delaney is determined to find out, and just as the investigation gets underway a memorial takes place for Noah and two teenagers disappear.
Which Delaney takes as confirmation that there is a killer on the loose.
But Kearny is a town full of secrets and those with something to hide will go to any lengths to stop Delaney investigating.
Then one of the two missing teens returns alive and unharmed but covered in blood and dirt.
But where has she been and what happened to her? And more importantly where is her missing brother?
And when Delaney is provided with a description of the kidnapper she is shocked to the core and doesn't quite know what to believe. As the person described is supposed to be dead...Aren't they?
And with a fast-paced storyline. That easily keeps you guessing and shocks that just keep on coming. Her Hidden Grave was a fantastic read and my favourite of the three stories so far.
I would happily recommend Her Hidden Grave to all.
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of Her Hidden Grave. 😊
I am hooked on this series! Delaney Pace is a strong, smart female detective, I love the Wyoming setting, and the stories are fast-paced with lots of action. There is also good tension between Delaney and her partner, Leo, going beyond unfulfilled attraction in this installment, as well as friction between Delaney and the new/acting sheriff. There is a lot for Delaney and Leo to investigate in "Her Hidden Grave", starting with the death of a local teenager, Noah Pinehurst, from an apparent drug overdose in the locker room before a big game. He was the star of the football team and son of a wealthy developer, putting a lot of pressure on Delaney and Leo to find out what happened. Two other teenagers are missing, a woman is found dead with the same drugs that killed Noah at her side, and someone has been lurking outside Delaney's home -possibly her brother, who everyone thinks is dead except Delaney and Leo, who know he is not only alive but heading up a criminal enterprise. I didn't think the murderer's motivations were really compelling, but I loved everything else about this book and am eager to start #3 in the series!
Detective Delaney Pace returns, faced with a challenging new case. A string of seemingly unrelated murders has Delaney and her partner, Leo, racing against time to apprehend an elusive perpetrator. As the investigation unravels, it becomes clear that all the murders are linked to tainted drugs, intensifying the urgency to prevent further violence.
Amidst the chaos, Leo and Delaney grapple with their unspoken attraction, a dynamic that adds complexity to their professional partnership. However, when Delaney discovers some of Leo's undisclosed secrets, it fractures the trust between them, leaving her feeling wounded. The narrative unfolds with the pressing question of how these two detectives will navigate their professional and personal relationships in the wake of these revelations. This series continues to be engaging and entertaining, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and author Pamela Fagan Hutchins for the opportunity to review the advance copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Her Hidden Grave (Detective Delaney Pace Book 2) by Pamela Fagan Hutchins Publisher: Bookouture Genre: General Fiction (Adult), Mystery & Thrillers Expected Publication Date: January 16, 2024
Her Hidden Grave is the 2nd book in the Detective Delaney Pace series by Pamela Fagan Hutchins. This book can be read as a standalone mystery or enjoyed as part of the series.
I could not put this book down! It was so intense! The story was fast-paced and had me on the edge of my seat! I loved this book so much!!! I thought the story was fabulous, filled with unexpected twists and turns. The characters were great and I loved getting to know them. I look forward to reading the future books in the series! I need more!!!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A ruthless, cold-hearted killer, a drug lord, corrupt officials and Detectives Delaney Pace and Leo Palmer are racing to keep the innocent safe and hunt down the rotten seeds in their small town.
Delaney continues to show her tough as nails, incredibly competent side as she chases a killer as well as her protective mother side to her niece Keteena.
The tension between Delaney and Leo continues but will secrets and misunderstandings come between what could be...
This book will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish and reaching for book 3 for the next installment, thankfully, the 3 books are being released at the same time so you can binge read them all at once!
The plot was great, death of a young football player, questioning if murder. Delaney knows the territory and the people to get answers in this fast paced action story. Good intriguing story involving young teenagers, and murder. Given arc by Net Galley and bookouter for my voluntary review.
“Her Hidden Grave" by Pamela Fagan Hutchins takes readers on another pulse-pounding journey with Detective Delaney Pace in the second installment of the series. Having read my second book by the author, I continue to be impressed by Hutchins' ability to craft compelling mysteries with well-developed characters.
The story opens with a gripping scene at a local high school in Kearney, Wyoming, where the body of star football player Noah Pinehurst is discovered. The intensity escalates as two of Noah's friends go missing, sparking Detective Pace's deep-seated fear that a serial predator is targeting the town's teenagers. The author skillfully intertwines the present-day investigation with Delaney's haunting memories of her father's murder, adding layers of emotional complexity to the narrative.
The tension builds as one of the missing teenagers reappears, sharing a harrowing tale of being kidnapped and buried alive. Delaney's personal connection to the kidnapper adds a compelling twist, creating a sense of urgency and a moral dilemma for the detective. The story masterfully explores the lengths Delaney is willing to go to protect her community, even if it means confronting the ghosts of her past and making unimaginable sacrifices.
Hutchins maintains a brisk pace throughout the novel, keeping readers on the edge of their seats with unexpected twists and turns. The small-town setting of Kearney comes alive with vivid descriptions, enhancing the atmospheric quality of the story.
While the plot remains suspenseful and engaging, there are moments where certain developments may feel slightly familiar or predictable, preventing a perfect rating. However, "Her Hidden Grave" is a solid continuation of the Detective Delaney Pace series, and I eagerly anticipate what comes next. Pamela Fagan Hutchins continues to deliver thrilling mysteries that captivate readers, and her adept storytelling ensures a satisfying experience for fans of the genre.. fans of Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh won’t be disappointed in trying this new series. Thanks to Ms Hutchins, the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Her Hidden Grave, the second novel to feature Deputy Investigator Delaney Pace of the Kearny County, Wyoming Sheriff’s Department.
The local high school’s star quarterback, Noah Pinehurst, is dead of an apparent overdose. Two days later two of his best friends disappear after his memorial. Delaney isn’t sure what’s going on, but when one of the friends turns up, having been shot and buried alive it can’t be anything good.
I thoroughly enjoyed Her Hidden Grave, which is an event filled rollercoaster of a read with some unexpected twists and turns. The novel is mostly told from Delaney’s point of view with the unnamed killer and his actions getting a say as well, even if this is not as revealing as it might suggest. The author has a few twists up her sleeve to complicate matters further.
Right from the beginning the novel is fast past paced and intriguing, starting as it does with a burial. Who are Thing 1 & 2 as the killer refers to his victims? That got me hooked and it never let up. Basically, Delaney and her partner, Deputy Leo Palmer, have very little idea of what is going on, but that’s won’t stop them digging until they do and the investigation is only one part of the novel. There is the whiff of corruption and influence peddling, Leo has trouble with his DEA handlers, Delaney has issues with Leo and her “dead” brother is poking his head above the parapet again. It never stops and is therefore a compulsive read. Obviously much of it is highly unlikely, not least Delaney’s terminator impression where she refuses to go down, but it is entertaining.
There is a romantic tension between Delaney and Leo, but working together etc… Well, whatever, but they are in the misunderstanding and jumping to conclusions stage in this novel and that is progress, so who knows what is next.
Her Hidden Grave is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
thank you to netgalley & bookouture for providing me with a copy of the arc for this book. at the time of this review the book is now officially published! congratulations to the author, i really pushed to finish before the pub date but unfortunately i started a bit too late — in my review of her silent bones, i mentioned that the book was fast paced and maintained the plot. i’m pretty happy to confirm that this book continued on with that. the pacing was definitely better in this one. i complained in my review of book one that the middle dragged but in this one it seemed to keep up. i skimmed over some description parts to get to the dialogue but i think that’s just me. the cast in this book are definitely more developed than they were in the previous one. we learned quite a bit about leo (but also not enough??) which i really liked because i don’t enjoy a character who is brought in just to be a love interest, i love that we got to know more of leo’s personality & relationships outside of being delaeny’s partner. the relationships between characters were more meaningful & developed, (i love a good found family trope) and i believe this is because more than one character had a pov. i can’t recall if book one had multiple pov’s in it (besides the murderer) but this one had quite a few. anyway, i really enjoyed reading leo’s chapters and i finally started to give a shit about the characters
i think that this book was a bit darker than book one, it definitely had more dark themes but again, the author included humour in the writing which is something i appreciate. speaking about the writing, shoutout to the covid mention? ("god, no. i hated that prick. the only thing i'd give him would be the rona if i had it.") the rona??? ijbol
trigger warning again for gore as the descriptions of crime scenes are pretty detailed but yeah to wrap up, this book was much better than the first one! thank you again netgalley & bookouture!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Detective Delaney Pace and her partner Leo Palmer are back in the gripping and hard to put down, Delaney Pace series. This addictive page turner would work very well as a stand-alone book but as it is only the second book in a new series, one can easily go back and read the first book.
Delaney and Leo have their work cut out for them when the local star football player, Noah Pinehurst is found dead in the locker room. Then two more teens disappear but one stumbles into town covered in dirt and blood. When Delaney learns the description of the kidnapper, she is given a shock. Could it be? But this person is dead, right?
This was a fast paced and riveting book that kept me on my toes. I enjoyed the pacing, the writing, the tension, and the suspense. Delaney is a great character who has returned to her hometown to take raise her niece. She is intelligent, tough, caring and dedicated to both her niece and her job.
Pamela Fagan Hutchins has wowed me once again! Bring on the next book in the series!!!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
Delaney is kind of a tomboy, but she certainly has her heart on the right place. Once you have a place in her heart, it's forever and she takes pity on quite a few 'strays'. :) But, on the other hand, she will fight you like a devil in a holy water font when you mess with her or with someone she loves.
One dead teenager and two missing ones... Delaney and her partner Leo are sure there is a connection. What is it though? Once they figure this out, they will have the culprit in their sight too. Once they know their identity, Delaney lets it rip. No way a killer will get away with it on her turf.
This is the 'business' part of the story, but we cannot forget the personal side to the book as well. Delaney is still struggling with things from the past she wants to unravel and Leo has his own agenda too. But they will never forget about how important family is.
Another thrilling story by this author and I just had to start book 3 right away. I could not help myself. 5 stars
This is book number #2 in the Detective Delaney Pace series. This has been an excellent series so far and I am eager to see where it goes from here. I recommend it!
Delaney is back in her hometown and is raising her niece, Kateena, who was orphaned after her parents were killed. Her job as a detective calls Delaney to the local high school, where the star football player has been found dead - right before the big game. What happened to him?
Delaney is deeply concerned when local twin teens disappear soon afterward. Their mother, who was a childhood friend of Delaney, winds up dead after asking Delaney for her help. What is going on in this town?
When one of the teens eventually turns up with a wild story about surviving being buried alive, Delaney is more determined that ever to find the killer and keep this teen safe. Can she find out what happened and solve this case before anyone else falls victim to this perpetrator?
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Welcome back to Kearney, Wyoming. A small town that has recently had their share of murder and intrigue. The second book of the Delaney Pace series continues the over arcing stories started in the first book while beginning a new story line when the body of the star QB of the football team is found in the locker room. Detective Pace has barely started her investigation when two teenagers disappear. When one of them makes her way back to Kearney, the first big clue is delivered. Delaney will dig deeper into these crimes, fearing what she may find and questioning what she remembers of her own history.
Pamela Fagan Hutchins has again set us up with a few misleading clues that will have you questioning Delaney's back story too. As Delaney works her way closer to the killer, Hutchins gives you just enough clues to slow down your reading to make sure you've not missed anything. Another great read from PFH.
Detective Delaney Pace is back in the 2nd in this series. She is still working with her partner, Leo. This time they are called to investigate the case of a young football player, who they think has committed suicide by a drug overdose. He father is very well known in the community and very rich. He will stop at nothing to find out what really happened to his son.
But, there are more missing teenagers. When Delaney's best friend comes to see her, she tells her that she has just come back into town to arrange the inheritance she received, her mother's home. But, her two teenagers (twins), have been missing for two days. She wasn't really worried because they have run off before, but now she just knows something is wrong.
Are these three teenagers tied together in someway. Always enjoy the tough Delaney. Nothing seems to stop her, except this time, she is still hunting for her brother that she thinks may come after his daughter that she has custody of.
This was another hair twisting mystery. A great read. Her Hidden Grave takes place 3 months after, Her Silent Bones in the Detective Delaney Pace Series. Once again Delaney finds her self in a tragic death of a promising young high school football quarterback. Before she can figure out the circumstances from the past year with no more clues in sight. Flashbacks of her father’s murder, puts fear into her once again. So much death and twisted deceit of her small town of Kearney, Wyoming. Can she weed through all the lies, to find the truth? And will she be able to forgive her on and off partner for the lies she believes his keeping? I’m anxious to read the final book in this series. As one mystery is solved, will others come forth before Delaney has the time to get to the truth before someone else she loves is tragically killed?
WoW............I was so looking forward reading Pamela's next book in this Detective Delaney Pace series - Her Hidden Grave by Pamela Fagan Hutchins and this is the second book I loved it. This was another brilliant book that will grip you from the beginning till the end, especially as it carries on where it left off from the first book called Her Silent Bones. It was full of twists and turns throughout that will have you sitting on the edge if your seat. Just Brilliant! WoW..........I am looking forward to Pamela's next book Her Last Cry..........I do love it when you have a series you can get your teeth stuck into and end up reading it to the early hours of the morning - like this one has.
I highly recommend this audio/book I loved it!
Big Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Her Hidden Grave
The body count keeps rising. They find clues that may tie the victims together. Delaney Pace and her partner face all sorts of problems in trying to dig up information on the victims. But they are tenacious and they unearth more and more information. True to Pamela Fagan Hutchins' books, this is not a plodding detective story, but contains instead, heart pounding confrontations, races through rough roads and woods. It contains bad stabbing characters and really nasty, self-centered people.
Delancey is one tough detective and she never gives up. Leo, her partner isn't as astute as I'd like him to be, but he's a good man with good insights.
This book is a second in the series and should really be read after Her Silent Bones because it's a continuation of the story in the first book.
I would have made it faster, but sadly I can’t twitch my nose and magically appear.
She smiled, showing lipstick on her teeth. It made her look like a vampire.
She wanted to sublimate into the atmosphere, as invisible as snow turning into water vapor.
My Review:
Book two maintains the smartly paced, near-constant action, and busy flinch-worthy storylines that began in book one. There is a staggering amount of murder occurring for a small town in Wyoming and I devised and cast off a multitude of theories concerning the guilty parties during perusal, but everyone was suspect and up to something. I couldn’t read fast enough to keep up with the dynamo of Delaney and enjoyed getting to know her better.
Detective Delaney Pace has another death to investigate, this time a young football player on the local high school football team. Not only that, but now a friend asks her to look into her missing teenage twins, who have not been seen or heard from in three days. Within 24 hours, the twins mother is found dead in her deceased parents’ home. The common factor of fentanyl poisoning in the football player and the twins’ mother are tied together somehow. Could the missing twins be involved somehow, or has something sinister happened to them? And does any of these deaths have anything to do with Delaney’s thought-to-be-dead brother? All the answers to your questions are revealed in this second book in the Delaney Pace series.
Pamela Fagan Hutchins is back with another Detective Delaney Pace book. In Her Hidden Grave Delaney is called to the scene of the local high school. It's there she finds the body of star football player Noah Pinehurst slumped in the changing room, his team shirt hanging behind his lifeless body.. Things get a little more complicated when two of his friends vanish from Noah’s memorial. If you have read book one, a lot of the local characters will feel familiar. We see Delaney's smart mouth - and her hot headless.
This book takes readers on a thrilling journey. The author dropped hints and false clues through out the book - I am definitely a fan of Deaney.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.,
