Warlander Silverback

Rate this book
Lucas Slater is coming home.

His boss is the dragon who has been keeping shifters both in check and protected since they were forced to come out into the light all those years ago. Humans have granted shifters the freedom to police their own—Damon Daye is the judge, and Lucas Slater is his personal hand of justice. Born in the very mountains he has gone out into the world to protect, Lucas hasn’t been home in years. He is a different beast now than when he left these mountains as an adolescent gorilla shifter. Now he is a fully-mature, dominant silverback gorilla with years of fight training and no family group to anchor him down. Years ago something happened that catapulted him out into the world to find himself. Now that he is returning to Damon’s Mountains, everything he imagined is coming true. These mountains tug at his animal and press him to put down roots that could be the end of him. He is here to do a job, but when he saunters into a familiar trailer park and finds out the name of his next target, everything gets turned upside down. And even more unsettling? A ghost from his past has been brought in to test him, but for the life of him, he can’t tell if the gorgeous falcon shifter has been sent to trap him…or to free him.

Jenna Brown is just doing what she’s been asked.

She is living happily in Damon’s Mountains…but there is something missing, and her falcon is acting out. When she becomes part of an elaborate plan to draw one of the sons of the mountains back into her territory, the outcome feels important for reasons she can’t explain. She has a history with Lucas Slater, but he has no idea how big it is. He is different now in ways that are calling to her body. Massive, dominant alpha male with a big destiny ahead of him, and she has never laid eyes on a man sexier than him. The problem? Her animal is tethering a bond to him, and everyone knows Lucas Slater is a leaver whose animal attaches to no one. She is setting herself up for a big hurt, and messing up important parts of Damon Daye’s plans as their destinies begin to unravel.

They are both a part of something that is so much bigger than themselves—but every wise shifter knows that if you love something, you must be able to set it free.

A new Crew is forming in Damon’s Mountains. Readers have asked for the return “home” for years, and T.S. Joyce has listened in this first epic, full-length homecoming. Read on for new alliances, revelations, tested loyalties, old friends, Crew bonds, flaws that feel like perfection, turmoil that turns to soul-deep devotion, epic shifter battles, and an ever-evolving rebuild of something that was broken, but now will become the future of the mountains.

There’s a new Crew in town.
The Warlanders are going to take us home.

Lucas is back in town at the request of his employer Damon, although he doesn't know exactly why, other than his Gorilla wants to eliminate his former friend Gunnar once and for all. Jenna, a submissive Falcon who has a lot of baggage herself, begins to fall for Lucas, knowing he will leave and break her heart. Gunnar's animal chose his mate but she didn't choose him back. Kru's animal is literally prehistoric, and he's not in control - at all. And Cadence...the ferocious white tiger is a mystery I'm looking forward to reading.

The Warlanders are an absolute shit show of a crew and I'm here for it!

Hello Damons mountains and ALL the nostalgia. This book made me heart so happy . I have read all of TS Joyce's shifters and they always so satisfying to me . I am so excited for this new generation of misfits, children or some of my OG favorites!

Quotes:
"Why did you choose me?” Cadence shrugged. “Beaston told me to.” Chills rippled up Jenna’s arms and the blood drained from her face. “Beaston?” she whispered reverently.

The Ashe Crew was here, and the Gray Backs. Kong was here too, with his mate, Layla. He blew out a shaking breath and gritted his teeth against the emotion that roiled like a hurricane in his chest. This place was church, and he hadn’t seen God in way too long.

“Whose kid are you?” “Damon’s,” Kru lied. “Bullshit,” he muttered as he cracked the tab of the beer. “Wouldn’t it be cool if I was though? Think about it. You could be in the same Crew as a dragon. All the cool Crews have dragons. Damon’s Mountains. Harper’s Mountains. Kane’s Mountains. Vyr’s Crew. We just have a stupid silverback.”

“I am awkward,” she blurted out. Sometimes it was just easier to say things out loud and get them into the open instead of trying to camouflage it. When his eyes opened, they were the bright glowing gold of his animal, but he didn’t feel heavy with anger anymore. Now, a grin cracked his face. “So freaking awkward.”

“Where are you going?” Nox asked. “I’m a motherfuckin’ merman,” Lucas called over his shoulder, and dove into the water.

“You’re dog paddling.” “This is how some people swim. We can’t all be perfect like you, Lucas. I’m doing the best I can without my goggles.” “Oh God, please let us go back and get your goggles. I want to see them.” Jenna splashed him. “You already think I’m the hottest person here, Lucas. If I show you my goggles, you will be addicted. Terribly inconvenient for you,” she huffed, winded as she treaded water. “We can’t have that.”

He grinned. Fuck. Yes. He made her feel safe. He made her feel safe. He made her feel freaking safe, and for an animal like him, that was important.

“I see nothing,” Lucia said with a shrug. “Or maybe I’ve seen your death.” “Lucia, enough,” Damon murmured. “Spoiler alert, you choke on a cheese cracker,” Lucia said. “Oh my God, this is awesome,” Kru said. “Do me next.”

This book takes many of these earlier series into the next generation and sure there were many familiar elements, but it was also a bit sad, that surprised me.

Lucas ran when he was a kid, betrayed in his mind by his BFF and the girl he wanted, but his animal didn't accept. And sure running at the time might have been best, but it's been years and as Lucas comes home to Damon's Mountain, you can see how so many are excited to see him, even a new crew that is trying to make him Alpha. This new crew is a hot mess and in it are those that Lucas felt betrayed by, you can imagine the trouble. The only bright spot for Lucas is Jenna, who has her own issues. It was interesting to see everyone navigate their troubles, to see possibilities, to learn what really happened back then and to see the potential future if they all can get their shit together.

Warlander Silverback 🦍

OMG, it was soooooo good to return to Damon’s mountains. Lucas returns for a visit and is captivated by the submissive falcon Jenna.

This books was massive and felt BIG❣️ I wish I’d had time to do a reread as I think I read Damon’s mountains and a good chunk of the books that began in this series from 2015 onwards…so some characters are still vivid in my mind but a few have faded over time😢

Loved Jenna and Lucas and I’m excited to see who’s up next and what other surprise lie in wait for us😍

This was so cute and funny - it put a huge smile on my face! I loved the flirty banter between Lucas and Jenna. The friendship between she and Cadence was sweet and Kru cracked me up. Gunner and Lucia are a bit of a mystery and I can't wait to read their stories (maybe they'll hook up?) Definitely a 5 star read.

I read the second series of the BobLoblawlanders featuring Gunner, et al and made the mistake of trying this book.

It’s not a particularly enjoyable read.

The fmc, Jenna, is that classic romance novel heroine who is 4’2 and 63lbs soaking wet who also drives a monster truck that’s been modified to dump as much pollution into the air as possible because shifters who live in the literal wilderness apparently hate nature and love sucking exhaust fumes. By the time I got to the bit about her love of guns and gigantic truck that is so big and unnecessary that it made me wonder why the author didn’t just have her driving a PeterBilt 587, I realized I was suffering from a severe case of who cares?

Although it’s generally pleasant that the author is doing less of the platypus-chinchilla hybrid-shifter/criminal enterprise romances featuring black magic/hoodoo, I am not quite sure that the author recalls her own AU. Rather, it feels like these are perfunctory books that are being autogenerated by ChatGPT after it was fed the earlier series.

Back to Damon's Mountains

T.S. Joyce writes about sort of broken alpha men (stacked, violent, bossy) and the women that complete them. The world of Damon's mountains is vast, and many of the characters are mentioned in this book, if they don't show up. You could still read this book first, you'll just understand more if you've read all the books.

I've read all the books, but it's been a long time. I'm happy to come back to this world, where I had a lot of fun and liked most of the characters. I like the basic plot arc of these series, and this one isn't substantially different.

But when I started reading this story, I found myself hoping it would be different. Lucas didn't seem as haunted and violent as previous alphas, and I was here for it. He had some trauma, and he wasn't exactly over it, but he had control. Then I was disappointed.

I'm disappointed in Damon, who sent a teenager into the world on his own to be a shifter enforcer, strong armed this group together and risked several deaths to try to make it work. I was disappointed in the big fight at the end, that was meant to bring the group together. I was disappointed that certain things were kept mysteries, presumably to encourage us to read the next book. I didn't feel like this group gelled at all, though Jenna and Lucas are good as a couple.

Other groups had stuff in common, usually a common job. Or they're friends or family. They have a reason to be together. This group doesn't have that. This group has reason to not want to be together. Being in a crew with your ex girlfriend is weird, even if you're both over it. I know hanging out with my high school boyfriend would be a problem for my husband!

Despite the problems, I enjoyed the book and will definitely be reading the sequels.

description

Lucas Slater is the son of Kirk from Boarlander Silverback. When he was young, he went through some drama love-triangle stuff with some other kids on the mountain. His animal went a bit out of control, so he started working for Damon, going out into the world and tracking down shifters who were harming humans.

Years later, he's back for a new job, but discovers it's actually a setup to get him to lead a new crew on the mountain (the Warlanders).

I really, really loved this. I've been a fan of T.S. Joyce since I read Lumberjack Werebear, but some of her other series weren't hitting the spot for me like the original mountain crews did. This one felt so much like the original series, and I had such a great time with it. The story is clever and had so much great stuff going on. Jenna is such a fabulous FMC, probably one of my favorites that Joyce has written. I loved how she appears all meek and docile on the surface, but has so many strong layers under the surface. Her and Lucas were a perfect set, and I think Joyce handled the stuff with his ex perfectly so that you never feel like Jenna isn't his number one.

So many stars, all the stars...I can't wait to continue on with this series.

Love this author, love these books, and this one takes us back to where it all began.
For me there were only 2 things keeping it from 5 stars:
1. All of the sleeping with each other when they were younger stuff was weird so didn't love that.
2. I've had this complaint about other books in the past but it always baffles me when these people try to force relationships when either the human side or the animal side isn't in it. This has been especially annoying in the books about the kids because their parents definitely raised them right and told them they couldn't find a mate if both sides don't pick the same person but they do it anyway and then permanently mess themselves up over it (very frustrating). I only bring this up again because it does have some flaws in the logic of the universe that's been built here and it has become a recurring theme in books within this world. I'd be down to read two or three books with this going on even though I'm not a fan, but I think now it's been consistently in every original series or spinoff so it's feeling a little overdone.

I'm still very excited for this series, the author did a great job of building suspense for the remaining books. We have so much to learn still, and I can't wait to see how these misfits find their happily-ever-afters.

sometimes words aren’t enough

Some authors create a world of fantasy, some authors create a cool universe… some authors create a world of love in all its forms: friendship, family and true partnerships.

If you’ve read T.S. Joyce’s books before you’ve heard the words: “Damien’s Mountain”.. if you’ve fallen deep for the many many lives and stories of those mountains where it all started… you know what place is. We’ve had other mountains which have continued the love we needed but this book? It truly brings us home.

The book itself is just as wonderful as the others. Its charm is the non-perfect and broken characters and the journey they are on and how they heal. Laughter, joy, pain and sorrow but most important: Love.

It’s why without question I give the book 5/5. I love this author’s books but it doesn’t mean it’s always a win but she’s one of the few who truly never let me down. If you enjoyed her books? This needs to be another read. If you’re new to her? I say start at the beginning to better feel it all but this book will have you hooked either way. “10-10”

Warlander Silverback (Book 1) by T.S Joyce is a 4 ⭐️ read.
OMG she’s only gone and taken us back to Damon’s mountains 🎉 if you haven’t read a T.S Joyce book then I would highly recommend you do, but don’t start here go back to the beginning, start with the fire bears then hit up Damon’s mountains. T writes characters that you can’t help fall in love with even the extremely broken ones, they will all lay claim to your heart and you will never forget them.
Lucas Slater has a huge silverback living inside him they don’t always see eye to eye l, he left Damon’s mountains when he was 18 after his heart was broken but he’s coming home and he wants in and out quickly but he doesn’t expect a shy falcon shifter to catch his attention.
Jenna Brown grew up on Damon’s mountains but didn’t exactly fit in with all the dominant shifters around her, making her own way was hard but she doesn’t see how strong she really is until Lucas Slater comes home.
This is the first book from my alphabet challenge, W down only 25 more to go.

Warlander Silverback

I've read most of the books in this series and I always find the dynamics of dominants and submissives interesting. There seem to be more dominants and they're always fighting. The MMC talks about how discussing things is actually more difficult because he's dominant. But submissives don't get the same automatic reaction from people.

“And if someone looks at your submissiveness as a gift, you can tell who is genuine and good, I’ll bet almost immediately. Am I right?”

“Yes,” she said. “In a way, it weeds out the weak.”
“And the weak are the ones who would take advantage of you.”

“My dominance doesn’t weed anyone out. It causes reactions people wouldn’t normally have. I have to get through the defensiveness before I can tell if a person is worth a damn or not.”

It's a fascinating question: how are submissives actually the linchpin that holds everything together? I liked this comment by Cadence describing the MFC,

“Here cleaning up messes quietly while the leaders just stomp around their lives.”

The Blade of Damon’s Mountain/Damon’s Enforcer, gorilla Lucas Slater has been summoned home after years of ‘‘helping’ shifters in the world that couldn’t help themselves. But it wasn’t a straightforward summoning and the reasons Lucas left and hadn’t come back were still valid.

Lucas’ gorilla and his former friend; Gunner’s grizzly are at odds over shared ex, tiger Cadence. Shy falcon Jenna Brown was still looking for a place to fit while new hang-around, Kru brought back memories. For his few days on home ground with peeks at past Ashland Crew characters, Lucas changed without even knowing and little seen Lucia Novak makes a cameo as a new crew is introduced.

I liked but didn’t love this outing but look forward to what’s coming next. Why it was only a like possibly had to do with unwinding the past of what was known. It affected my enjoyment of the outing but that was definitely a reader issue.

Lucas has come home to find the ex that broke his heart is trying to manipulate him into a pack with her. Which gets a resounding hell no from him, but there’s this other quiet girl from his childhood who might be a little better at convincing him.
This is a next gen Damon’s mountain story, so it tends to throw a million names at you of past characters from the universe. With nearly fifty books, there’s a lot of name dropping, and I honestly have forgotten most of them. So points for fan service, but it did get very repetitive being reintroduced to them all and their children. Definitely not a starting point book if you’re looking to jump into this world. I do think swaths of it wouldn’t make sense without backstory (like the prophetic crows).
Nothing really stood out in this story for me, it was just getting reacquainted with this world twenty years later.

Absolutely Loved It

I loved being back in Damon's Mountains with some of the characters again. Lucas and Jenna's story is special. He's a dominant Silverback shifter and she's a submissive falcon. Once upon a time they grew up together but then something happened and Lucas left the Mountains. Ten years later he's reluctantly returned but has no intention of staying. However one thing leads to another and he and Jenna are drawn together. She knows their time is limited and he will leave again but she loves him enough to accept what he can give her. In true TS Joyce fashion their story is an emotional rollercoaster that draws you in. It's a book well worth reading. Excellent.

It’s the first book of t.s.joyce Iv picked up in a while went throw a reading block but this book I read in a day this made me chuckle. It’s really good if anyone wants a quick read I’m a slow reader but got this done in a day. The storyline is actually great and love how it’s nit ow you found your mate happy ever after. The triangle of 3 friends hoping/thinking and knowing there each others mates to the mess it can create when things don’t go as it’s supposed to.The suspense of two best friends that fell out over a female spending years resenting each other to finally cross paths again.
The main female not been like most submissive characters she the complete opposite to most submissive characters. Highly recommend this short read

Os tried not to spill on this book 😂

Return to Damon's mountains

I was so grateful to be brought back to Damon's mountains. I re-read every single book in this series just to prepare for this one.
While I love every book that TS Joyce gives us, this is now one of my absolute favorites. This is the beginning of a new series and has set up each character so beautifully for their own story while managing to keep us fully invested in the lead characters in this book. This story line is going to run very deep, while these are new characters she has managed to help us connect to every single one of them in the very first book. It feels like coming home.

It’s GREAT to be back where it all started!

Another GREAT read from TS Joyce! I am sooo excited to read more about this next crew in Damon’s Mountains! There’s just something about coming home to where it all started that just gives you all the feels. Reading the next generation AND having little snips of the OGs in this amazing world does my heart good. I don’t want to give anything away about this wonderful story of Jenna Brown (Kellen and Skylar Browns daughter) and Lucas Slater (son of Kirk and Ally), but if you loved TS Joyces’ Saw Bears and the Boarlander series YOU ARE GOING TO FREAKING LOVE THIS!

It was so great to be back in Daemon’s Mountain and to see all the old familiar faces!
I have read all of these books, but some of the stories have meshed together over the years so I find my memory needs some prodding, it would be great if there was a quick summary of past characters.

This book was well written and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead for Lucas, Jenna and the
Warlander Crew. The description of the old waterfall immediately brought back memories from prior books. The love story between Lucas and Jenna was HOT! SPICY! And INTENSE!

Well developed characters and great storyline.

I am in the minority and it's clearly a me thing. I liked the h. She helped me like the story and really I did. What didn't I like, the H and his past with Cadence. Their past together with Gunner was a mess and Jenna was there to witness it all. Who wants to be romantically involved with the H after watching his spiral after the breakup, I don't know. Jenna deserved better. I just could not warm up to Cadence, at all. Another thing that I don't get is forcing the group together to what, kill each other, get seriously injured... I don't know I just couldn't get behind that. I'll of course continue with the series .

Warlander Silverback - Blade of the Mountains

Warlander Silverback - Blade of the Mountains

‘She didn’t know it, but the silverback’s attention was trained on her. He was quiet, sure, but he was watching, and even more than that? He would rip any threat to her in two. And that…that…was something Lucas Slater had never felt before.’

In TS Joyce’s first book in her new Warlanders series, we get the emotional punch we need from this amazing author, all tied up in crazy!

The ties that bind these offspring of our favorite characters from previous series’ are just as heartfelt, just as volatile, just as loyal, just as filled with pain, and ultimately just as loved!

An incredible emotional rollercoaster

I loved this book, it had everything I wanted, an amazing story and romance. I adore when a shy, awkward character is more than they seem and braver than anyone ever expects. TS Joyce brings characters to life and then has you crying with laughter, joy and sadness at her writing. This book is about a broken boy who never got over his past, and a girl who was always there for him watching and waiting. It will definitely make you cry but it will be worth it!! Can't wait for the next one.

Back home in Damon's mountains is everything we've been missing!

This is what we've been waiting for! I absolutely love seeing the story unfold for the second generation of Damon's mountains. Lucas and Jenna are amazing characters that immerse you in their lives. Lucas left the home at 18 to save his silverback from becoming feral and has been helping other struggling shifters since. Jenna has her life together is all the best ways, but is missing the biggest piece, love. They fill the missing pieces with each other and the emerging crew. I can't wait for more for this crew!

Just Keeps Getting Better

My title says it all; it just keeps getting better.

Lucas and Jenna’s story has all the right elements: strong memorable characters, an engaging storyline, sporadic humor, good drama, nice romance and a sweet (but not trite) HEA. Add in the fact that characters from previous books are occasionally intertwined while new characters are added, and you have the foundation for the Warlander series.

Entertaining, delightful start for the new crew on Damon’s mountain.

New Series

3.5 Stars - Lucas is back in this story. It was good to spend time with the newbies in this story, but also with Nox, Torrian, Damon, Beaston, Kirk, Kong, Mason and so many more. I needed more from this story since it has been a while since we went back to these other series. It felt towards the end that we just jumped into the epilogue after a climatic event. I will give this new series a chance once the other stories are released with hopes that the Warlanders get better.

I've been waiting for this book without realizing how much enjoyment these stories bring. Lucas left a boy with unresolved issues and returned a man still searching for answers. Damon has set him a task he tries hard to refuse, making a new crew.

The characters, old and new, are interesting and the storyline cleverly inserts humor amongst the dilemma of wether to bring this crew together or let them drift. Highly recommend this and encourage rereading all the original crew books.
