What do we have here? A captor/captive romance? cool... I haven't read a good one in a while!
But it was weird and uneventful. FMC is 26, MMC is 50. That's the first layer of "wtf is this?". The reason for captivity: FMC's father owes MMC a lot of money so he tells him I'll give a collateral for at least 2 months. That collateral is my daughter.
So the dad drugs his daughter, ties her painfully and throws her in the woods. She wakes up disorientated and freaking out. The MMC comes to collect her and bring her to his cabin.
The writing style was so baaaad. While the FMC was freaking out waking up alone, she kept talking to herself in a way that was meant for us. Like "Where is my phone?/ I did not blindfold my self. Where am I? I'm not afraid"
Then for like 40 pages it was MMC talking to FMC in the dangerous woods trying to convince her to come "willingly" with him. At the same time, we know that the MMC's cabin is far away and it's nearly dark and there are all kinds of wild animals. But hey let's discuss the procedure of captivity for 40 pages.
Then MMC is portrayed like a sleazy pervy old man with him lusting over the FMC+++ flashbacks to him fucking multiple random women when he was friends with her father. FMC never felt drawn to him and the book ends on a cliffhanger because this is supposed to be a 4 books series of short novellas.
Tucker Bowman. My, oh my. If you've read Ms. Brandon's dark romance books, you know how deliciously depraved her anti-heroes are as well as implacable in getting what and who they want. I found Tucker to be one of her more complex and utterly fascinating and enthralling characters. He's physically huge and daunting, focused to an intense degree and as we come to learn, brilliant and possessed of many skills, not the least of which is surviving off the land in his own private wilderness. But what completely ensnared me was his personality: initially in a decades long emotional lockdown that he's had no problem maintaining. But then Ella enters his life. The reader is privy to his (& Ella's) thoughts, and Tucker fully intended to house, feed, and care for Ella dispassionately until her father satisfied his debt to Tucker. BUT, Ella is not co-operating. And Tucker is finding her actions as well as her enraged comments are flipping switches within him that are reigniting his deep depraved dominant desires. And he's not sure he can or wants to fight them Superbly written, this one sucked me deep into the mesmerizing plot with 2 fascinating characters. I read this one straight through in one sitting because I was enthralled, invested, intrigued and needed to know what would happen next. This one is a reader's delight (at least for me), wonderfully engaging, a perfect balance of suspense, simmering sizzle, and thrilling tenterhooks. Tucker, again for me, is an beautifully nuanced character that is complicated, obviously has a mysterious and dark past that is impacting his present. I need to know more about him and can not wait for the second book of this series. Stellar in all ways.
Ella has woken up inside her sleeping bag in the forest This is a wonderful read and I guarantee that you will thoroughly enjoy the plot and the characters and the happening within these wonderful pages. Then she discovers that she has been taken and she is being held to pay for her father’s debt and that in the forest that is hidden away in the depths of the forest and will be staying there until any money owed will be repaid. This is a wonderful first book by Felicity and I am sure you will be as captivated as myself and left looking for future publications. I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all their wonderful writing.
Cold! Bound! Angry! Unwilling payment for her father’s monetary debt!
Tucker has been given Ella to hold until her father pays his debt. Tucker is a large, strong, silent, nature loving man. For many years, he has forgone the attention of women, but Ella seems to have invaded his thoughts. She is a “wildcat,” but she is attractive and enticing, and his male energy seems to be reacting. Now that Ella is his collateral, her life is in for a huge change. Tucker makes the decisions! He makes the rules! Ella must learn to obey! Disobedience elicits consequences. Consequences equal punishments. Punishment is synonymous with pain for Ella and enjoyment for Tucker.
Will these two find a way to reconcile their differences? I cannot wait to find out!
Whew!!! Suspicion by Felicity Brandon is the compelling story of Tucker and Ella. She’s nothing more than a means to an end. Her father owes Tucker big money, and Ella is the only way to get it. He’s dark, dangerous, and hugely dominant. She’s oblivious and doesn’t realize how she came to be in this predicament. All she wants to do is escape.
Yowza!!! What an incredible story!!! This story sucked me in like a Hoover!!! Though she knows there’s little hope, she continues to try to find a means of escape. But, Tucker knows this forest like the back of his hand…and he knows she’s essentially defenseless against the element…and against him….
What an intense story and I loved every single word, Tucker has a debt to collect and poor Ella is the collateral held hostage. She is fiesty, argumentive and lights Tuckers thoughts on fire. He is a mountain man big and dominant where he sets all the rules and he just might have his sites on Ella to comply.
I loved these two, there's no escape no where to run where he won't find you. The beginning sets out super exciting right away how a father could do that was mindblowing. I can't wait for more.
Sold! Ms. Brandon is a must read for me when it comes to dark, complex, twisted romance, and her character Jared lives rent free in my head. Tucker has just become Jared's roommate. I was blown away by this one. It's so freaking good! It has all the complexity, twists, and delicious goodness I've come to expect from this very talented author. It sucked me in, kept me up all night, and still captivates my thoughts. I loved it!
What a horrible place for Ella to be stuck in. A good-for-nothing rat for a father and a psycho who is holding her hostage for her father's sins. I cannot figure out whether to be icked out by Tucker or hope that he isn't the dark and demented person I am reading about. I can't wait to see if what I think he is is right.
i’ve read a lot of dark romances but i’ve never quite hated a MMC as i did tucker. he’s just plain mean and gross tbh. his use of “little girl” gave me the ick.
i honestly felt zero connection between the FMC and MMC and i was just hoping she’d escape or smack the crap out of him 💀😂 disappointing read for me and i definitely have no desire to read the second book and find out what happens.
I found this story to be an excellent dark romance of the interactions between Ella and Tucker. There is plenty of suspense, hot chemistry and many dark twists and turns in this well written book. I think it is a great start to a new series and I can't wait for the next one. This is my honest opinion.
Felicity brandon only writes the best books . Can't wait to read obsession and continue this book . Such an amazing book. Definitely worth more than 5 stars .
I'm conflicted on this review. I love this author and her dark romances but this one isn't doing it for me. Tucker just seems creepy instead of dark. And Ella is just..meh. I didn't connect at all.
Ella awakes in a sleeping bag in the forest. Then Tucker turns up and says she belongs to him. He takes her to a house deep in the forest. Then he tells her that she is there to cover her father’s debt. Felicity has done it again with another great story can’t wait to read the next book.
