BOOK 1: LEAD ME TO THE SLAUGHTER
Detective Chief Superintendent Tommy Fox is pursuing five villains and their loot from a van heist. They find the loot . . . and a body in a shallow grave. The disappearance of a reverend, a trail of closed bank accounts and a host of stolen identities further muddy the investigations. Fox’s Flying Squad must untangle the web to find the truth.

BOOK 2: THE LAUNDRY MAN
A policeman is shot in a bank robbery. Fox is convinced it’s the work of money launderer, Danny Horsfall. But Horsfall is careful to cover his tracks. Fox and his team must crack through a trail of drug pushers, crooked art dealers and prostitutes to bring the laundry man to justice.

BOOK 3: TOMFOOLERY
A cache of priceless jewellery is stolen from an upmarket London hotel. All Fox's leads are dead ends until his team find a link with a missing person enquiry. A man with multiple identities and relationships is the likely villain. The Flying Squad must hunt through a maze of dodgy characters to get to the truth.

BOOK 4: SNOWDROP
Two mutilated corpses are discovered in a car on the motorway hard shoulder. White powder is found in the boot. Fox knows a drug smuggling ring when he sees one. A large and organised one at that — but this time, something clearly went very wrong . . .

BOOK 5: THE TAMING OF TANGO HARRIS
A prostitute is murdered in a fashionable London hotel. Hours later a lorry is hijacked, and then the body of a criminal is found in a car boot nearby. Fox believes the crimes bear the hallmarks of gang leader Tango Harris, but Harris is always one step ahead him. He must find the link to solve the crimes.

BOOK 6: UNDERNEATH THE ARCHES
Thieves find a strangled woman on the floor of their lock-up. The Flying Squad’s simple robbery case is now a murder investigation. Fox’s unorthodox way of working is put under internal scrutiny as he seeks the link between robbery and murder. Can he overcome false leads to uncover the murderer?

BOOK 7: ROUGH DIAMONDSA
diamond thief is shot dead in a taxi. Days later, another diamond thief is murdered. Fox’s investigations reveal a link with an unsolved murder five years ago. But his attempts to trap the killer by using his new girlfriend as bait go disastrously wrong.

BOOK 8: BLUE MURDER
Tommy Fox is promoted to commander of the International and Organised Crime branch at London’s CID. A scandalous case lands on his desk within seconds — a British businessman and two female companions have been shot dead in Cyprus. It looks like a drug deal gone wrong, but the male victim had a sideline in pornography. Fox must wade through the murky world of vice to get answers.

The Complete Tommy Fox Series Box Set contains all eight books in the Tommy Fox Series by Graham Ison. I had this pop up as a recommendation and as I love a good British Detective story, I snapped up the series (as a box set) and set off to investigate.
This is a crime and investigation mystery series, with suspense, cops & robbers, conmen, villains, killers, forgers & fraudsters, heists, intrigue, crime rings, drug smuggling rings, a whodunnit feel, old school gangsters, obstacles, challenges, humour, banter, colourful quirky characters, action, drama, and more.
There are a LOT of characters to keep track of in each book, so that somewhat confuses things... And the stories are a little dated in the portrayal of cultural issues, societal norms, and the available technologies (or lack thereof) etc- as the books were written in the early 1990’s and a LOT has changed since then. But the crimes, and the subsequent investigations still made for a good read, but definitely not as ‘thrilling’ as I was hoping for.
We follow Scotland Yard Detective Chief Superintendent Tommy Fox in all his unorthodox, witty, sharp, cynical, contrary ways — as throughout all the investigations he treats police procedure, regulations, and the law with his usual disdain- getting the job done (his way) nonetheless...…

This eight book set was extremely compelling. Storylines so well thought out and complete with a myriad of sub plots that all eventually come together. Tommy Fox is a unique policeman. He starts off as a Chief Superintendent running the Flying Squad in the Met and by the last book has become a Commander. Desk bound? Don’t you believe it. He is on the ‘tools’ all the while, investigating, visiting suspects, murder scenes, interviewing, and his reports really loathe him for it but at the same time are in awe of him, even the villains he is after give him a lot of respect and are usually afraid of his reputation. Always introduces himself as ‘Thomas Fox….of the Flying Squad’. An old fashioned copper, goes by his gut feel, which usually works out. Loved the terms ‘drum’, ‘slaughter’ and ‘spin’, if unsure of their meaning just read this set! A word of warning, there are so many characters in each book you can lose track. Thank goodness for the Kindle device, (again), which reminds you who the character is and when they were first introduced to the story. Clever writing from Mr Ison who has so much knowledge of the police system.

Old fashioned police stories.

Tommy Fox, brilliant character. Only thing that annoyed me was the constant reference to his 'London ' accent. Never in a month of Sunday's would anyone with a London accent use the vernacular speech given to him.
Apart from that and no information on him, apart from his medal for taking on a gunman single handed. Not a lover of great swathes of personal life but this was nonexistant, until Lady Guv came on the scene.
Thoroughly enjoyed the stories. Well written, while being a big stretch on such a high ranking officer doing his own detecting.

Been an enjoyable journey.

Back to the days when there was a Flying Squad that was allowed to slightly bend the rules to get rightful justice.
Tommy Fox is certainly a flamboyant character in his role and should not be underestimated in his sometimes casual approach. Each of the 8 stories here prove this to be the case. Every book different to the last but with the same results. And we watch Tommy as his relationship with Lady Jane develops after the death of her sister.
I have enjoyed this collection as I hope you will too.

I was impressed. I have read over 100 British detective novels and this set gave me a deep impression of all the leg work, the dead ends, the discouragement that comes from invested hours of chasing down potential avenues without finding the "right one" that leads to a conclusion. I commend the officers spending sleepless nights to put in the necessary hours in overtime. While I personally would not like that employment, I admire those who commit themselves to enabling the rest of us to have restful nights and safe children. My gratitude to my British brothers.

The Complete Detective Tommy Fox Books 1-8.

It took me a wee while to get into gear with the first couple of these books, but then I really enjoyed them. Fox, with his, at times sarcastic way of dealing with people, certainly got the job done, along with his team. Interesting series.

Nicely put together

Obviously dated storyline with no mobile phones or modern media but well composed and although sometimes easy to guess who the purpotraters were still held my interest.

1970's detective series at its best.

A great series of 70's detective stories. Varied stories but Tommy Fox and his team are the thread that makes each book definitely worth reading.

Excellent read.

It took me back to the days of the Sweeney. Rough justice is dished out from time to time. The central character is plausible and has some great one liners. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
