Skip This One

It pains me to give a one-star review, especially since writing books is an art form and is not an easy thing to do. However, this book was so sloppily written that it was very difficult to get through. I begrudgingly finished it, though I wish I would have DNF’ed it and moved on.

The stories in this series have been so pretty good up until this point. The underlying premise had potential in theory but was badly executed in reality. The writing was extremely choppy and confusing, there were scenes that were very redundant, and there were parts that I read over and over and still couldn’t comprehend what the author was trying to say. It’s like the author needed to make this book longer so she kept adding absolutely frivolous problems that the MMC and FMC had to face and it did not work well at all. All in all, save yourselves a headache and skip this one.

Please please please re-edit this story

I have read and own all the other books in this series. Most of them are favorites of mine. While the idea behind this story is there, the editing just destroys it. The timeliness bounces around all over the place. The story is so inconsistent that it doesn't make any sense. This story was so painful to read that I didn't make it half before I gave up. I usually buy the hardcopy books of this series as they are released. But unless this one is completely gone through and re-edited, I won't be doing that. As of now I can't even bring myself to finish reading ot 😪

This book was awful. It was absolutely a mess. The chapters didn’t make sense from one to the next. The sequence of events were jumbled and it almost seemed as if two different people were writing this book. I’m so sad at how terrible this book turned out because I’ve read all the others in this series. Massive disappointment.

Gargoyle warrior Kuzar (H) is directed by his chief to take a human mate through the Marriage Temple as it is his duty to carry on the gargoyle bloodlines. Evie (h) is directed by her parents to take a monster as her mate through the Marriage Temple as it is her duty to provide them with the financial security her actions will provide. Kuzar and Evie are matched and wed, though neither are eager for their marriage. Evie struggles to fit into her new life within the gargoyle settlement and with her new husband. Kuzar struggles with how to treat Evie and tries to keep himself aloof from her. As they get to know one another, they both open themselves up to one another. Kuzar comes to admire Evie’s strengths as she looks to be the wife that Kuzar needs at his side in a world filled with dangers and challenges. Hot and steamy gargoyle-human romance with plenty of action, danger, and more.

might want to edit this again

This was the most disjoined disappointing story of this series. Event that happend we quick and never resolved. The lead male character went from a winged hand to hand fighter to a scaled and fured figure that fought with a sword and had a mount. Things were not developed and one character constantly changed gender sometimes in one sentence. I didn’t even fully read this all the way thru. I skimmed the last 10 chapters only. The relationship also seemed unbelievable. The main character fell in love instantly but constantly was saying he was falling again and again. It wasn’t another reason or a building of love it was her action instantly changed how he felt about her. Honestly the story started to feel like the author had ideas from other stories she couldn’t use and crammed them all into this book and didn’t check to make sure it fit into a smooth story anyone would enjoy. I recommend a more through edit and more development of a story arch that makes since.

I DNF this. Don't know why but each book by this author in this series feels just put together haphazardly.
Gargoyle is told he needs to submit to dna testing, first is told to think about it but day after is just told to give blood. News arrives of a match, he travels 3 days alone. At the temple there are suddenly more gargoyles, then he suddenly has a ship,...
This is just three chapters in and the story just lost me.
These are short reads with (in most cases) insta attraction / love. I don't feel any connection here, not with how fast things go and feel disconnected.

When will you learn that this whole series is AI written?

AI Covers... AI written.

This is a dumpster fire and proof that it's been written by AI. The author didn't give a fuck and just hit publish instead of trying to piece it together.

All three of these authors are sad, pathetic and unethical.

DNF @ 30%

This was not for me. The story felt janky, confusing and repetitive, the spice was short and not fleshed out, the male lead was inconsistent and bland and the FL has no personality.

PLOT: Kuzar is a gargoyle warrior who's forced by his clan to marry a human as a show of peace and establish ties between their respective races. Evie is a destitute human who's being forced by her parents to marry a monster so they don't all starve to death. Humans live in a dilapidated old compound with no food or prospects and gargoyles are warriors who live in the caves.

Evie and Kuzar meet for the first time at the Temple (which essentially serves as a dating service in these books) and he's insta-in-love with her (according to his POV) but still treats her like crap - plus, within 5 seconds of getting her back to his cave he's telling her to strip and takes her right there, just hello, we're married, take your clothes off. Ugh. There's basically no character development, Evie asks the same question / they have the same talks over and over and the world felt shaky and not very fleshed out. I know most of us read for the smut / relationship and this book didn't deliver for me there either.

Read the Reviews and WAIT for a rewrite!

I should have listened to the numerous negative reviews. This book is so poorly edited, it is unreadable! The prologue is for another book, for pity’s sake! It just gets worse from there, with the main characters repeating sections of the book in a different way and wild inconsistencies.
I did NOT finish the book, as this is clearly a work in progress. I recommend you wait til it’s rewritten.

Needs a better EDITOR

So I have been looking forward to this book for awhile now. And no disrespect but this author needs a new editor. The healer was one minute referred to as her the next as a him. Leaving the question was the healer male or female. One minute the main characters are living together to sleeping in different areas for the cave. Very confusing. If I had to read the phrase "Contentment" Or "shiver down my spine" I was going to scream. Highly disappointed in this read. Get a better editor next time.

2/5

Out of the three books I've read from this series, I think this is my favorite one. It still has that absurd writing style and a basically non-existent plot but on the other side I feel like it has a better narrative in what concerns the female main character. She becomes an actual warrior, she integrates in the community, meanwhile in previous volumes she becomes a housewife and that's all of her accomplishment.

Anyways, the biggest flaw of this series relies on the age of Evie and in general every mc. THEY'RE KIDS. They're teenagers being forced to marry (with what this implies) into brutal monster communities (and breed and procreate as if they were only baby machines). It just doesn't feel right in any sense, I'm sorry I don't care what your kinks are.

DNF.
Yo me quedé 😳😳
Eso, para empezar, y solo leí las primeras páginas. Saquen sus conclusiones.
Mi consejo: ¡¡HUYAN EN DIRECCIÓN OPUESTA!!

Okay in all honestly, I gave this book a 4 stars.

But now that I am thinking, I see some issues. I enjoy the concept of this story. I really enjoyed how the FMC wanted to prove herself, and be apart of the new community of gargoyles. I like how we got to see her strength grow throughout the book.

Okay here are some of the issues. A little confusing. The prologue didn't make sense. I didn't see the connection.

One of Eden Ember's best books in the series so far as character development and storyline.

DNF. I’ve given this author one last try despite the bad reviews considering it was her last book in the collection… but I shouldn’t have. At first, I enjoyed the book considerably more than her previous ones and I didn’t understand the low ratings… but then there was a huge shift as we made progress in the story. The chapters felt mismatched. I don’t know. Like they were put out of order or like some chapters were taken out. It almost gave me whiplash. I’m sorry to say I won’t be giving this story much more thought.

This was awful. Just awful. The storyline was all over the place, the characters were completely flat. Every other chapter, one of the MC's said "I realized then that I was falling in love with him/her" and I'm like you realized that 12 freaking times already! The author kept changing the gender of certain characters. One sentence was "she leaned down and grabbed my hand" and the next sentence was "his hands were soft and warm against mine". Its like the author didn't even fucking try with this book. I don't DNF books (nothing against those that do, its just not in my nature) but I seriously contemplated it with this mess.

Confusing

I gave this book a 3 star but that still might be too much. Other than the repeated sentences and spelling errors, this book was all over the place. Things would happen, then it would be fine and it seemed like there were several parts out of order and it was just overall confusing. The main characters claimed to love one another, yet they still felt like they were falling in love in so many places in the book that it definitely was out of order. How can the main gargoyle be a captain through most of the book and then the leader at the end? Be prepared to be confused.

DNF at around 40%. This book was so poorly written it read like a first draft. I enjoy this premise and the other books in this series. Except for the other books by this author. They are all poorly written and very disjointed. It’s unfortunate because I was looking forward to the next installment of the series. Too bad it’s terrible.

I have been reading this series voraciously and I have loved them! This book is without a doubt the exception.
The story is very disjointed and jumbled, and it honestly seems like the author wrote it in one night and completely forgot what she wrote in previous chapters. The flow of chapters just didn't make sense to me. Now that I am thinking about it, it kinda seems like the chapters were pulled from a bunch of different books, hence the messed up timeline and disjointed chapters. Also, this book, unlike every other book in the series is, seriously lacking in the smut.

The story starts out with the MMC being told that he has to go to the temple and get a human bride, but then when he brings her back, everyone is upset, including the people who told him to go do it. At first it is very clear that he was forced to do it, but then in proceeding chapters, he acts like it was his choice alone to get a human bride.

There is a scene in which there is a battle, and the FMC's actions and contributions during the battle are very detailed. Then in the very next chapter, her contribution was reduced down to only getting the children to safety before being attacked and passing out.

Also for some reason, the MMC and the FMC seem to realize they love each other for the very first time multiple times throughout the story, and each time they are taken aback by how much they realize they love each other.

The author also clearly forgets what she wrote in previous chapters about specific characters.
Veda is present in many chapters of the book. She is first mentioned in Chapter five and is described as a young gargoyle and one of the most promising warriors in training. Then in chapter 16 she the author writes, "She looked up, her ancient eyes softening as they met mine. "Of course, child. What troubles you?" When first introduced she is a warrior, but then by chapter 17 she is a healer of some sort.
Chapter 21 is from the POV of the FMC, and she says "He stood beside me, our son Kael nestled against his broad chest, sleeping peacefully despite the commotion." Two pages later, Kael is gone and it's back to the child that had been mentioned in the previous chapters, Aria. Then about five pages later, Kael is back, and the page after that brings back Aria.

I strongly suggest skipping this novella and going to the next one in the line up.

Terrible lectura.

Only one Star? but here is my reason.

I wanted to love this book, I really did. Because I’ve enjoyed reading the other books in this series. But I have to be honest and say that this book was the worst so far. The plot seems to have so many holes in sometimes you can’t tell, despite knowing which character speaking how much time has passed, and we end up having four chapters were the characters continuously repeat how they’re feelings deepen, and they fall in love each other for the first time, even though they’ve already fallen in love with each other three times already. Which makes absolutely no sense. it’s rare that you come across a sentence that tells you how much time has passed so you’re simply having to guess. If it’s been days weeks or even months.

And I really shouldn’t be salty about this, but part of the reason I serve this series is because I love the spicy material between humans and monsters. There was not a single scene in the book that was written in a satisfying manner. In fact, the first scene was only a few sentences long was almost no details!

I did like the ending of the book, it did give a conclusion and a finality to the story, but other than that, I just feel like it wasn’t very well written, and well there are some other books in the series that are just absolutely excellent, this is just one I could not fall in love with.

Facing challenges in a strange and dangerous world (repeat 1,000 times)

I usually am real lax when it comes to giving books a fairly easy rating and not be too harsh but I’m sorry this time I cannot. This book was so confusing, contradictory and repetitive to the point I seriously thought it was AI work. Nothing made sense from beginning to end, the female MC was not likable, the male MC couldn’t figure out if he loved the human or hated her. There was no structure for leadership, too many enemies being faced off with the gargoyles and the jumping between something that already happened to let’s try this for the first time!

The list is just endless, seriously though this book would have been fantastic if the author could just stick to ONE story line and not a sleuth of them. Make them coherent and maybe work on the characters a little more. I’ve read her previous books in this series, she’s good I liked her books but this one? No! I kept going back and forth between dnfing or finishing it, I ended up finishing it but I did skip over a lot in the last three chapters, I won’t lie lol.

Also just a note if you are going to submit your blood to the marriage temple and know that this is the way you get your husband chosen don’t ask said husband “why did you choose me?” Because ma’am HE DIDN’T! 0/10 ⭐️ read at your own peril.

Jumping plots of Gargoyle wedded bliss?? (Kindle Unlimited borrow)

So, I have enjoyed these Temple match series books. But this one was too hard to swallow. It really could have been half the length because of all of its wishy-washyness. For instance, they would talk about how in love they were with each other, but then two pages later, they were still falling in love with each other. Another example was the chieftain. He was the chief and then a warrior and then has been an elder all this time. But I think the thing that got me the most was the discontinuity of something being one way changing to something else and then changing back to the original. Some examples of that: the healer is female, then male, then back to female; the clan accepts her, doesn't accept her, then is back to accepting her; the chieftain told Kusar that he had to wed a human, then it was the Kusar went behind their backs to do so, then it went back to this being a forced marriage.
Please, please, please, authors, read through your work to make sure it makes sense. Spell check doesn't check that for you, or have an outline, or heck, I'll edit your works for free so they can be better!

This was a very sweet arranged marriage monster romance between a gargoyle and human. Gargoyle warrior Kuzar is tasked to enter into an arranged marriage with a human, Evie. The concept of marrying for duty rather than love leaves both Kuzar and Evie less than enthusiastic. Yet, as they begin their life together within the unique confines of the gargoyle community, they face the challenges of adaptation and personal connection.

Evie finds herself navigating the complexities of her new environment, striving to fit into Kuzar's world. Meanwhile, Kuzar grapples with his role as a husband, initially keeping Evie at arm's length. However, as they spend more time together, mutual understanding and respect grow. Kuzar and Evie were perfect for each other and I loved how sweet and steamy this book was!.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

“It’s strange, but also kind of beautiful.”
Veda smiled. “It is. It’s a reminder that life is a cycle of change and renewal.”
As we left the molting chamber, a strange sense of kinship emerged with the gargoyles, these creatures who shed their skin and emerged anew, just like the humans of my world shed their old lives and emerged into new ones.'

I love the Arranged Monster Mates series and how these couples are brought together through The Temple matching them by DNA. Great world building and wonderful characters. I was fascinated by Gargoyles in this world and loved learning about their way of life and thought the shedding of skin like snakes was a unique touch to their species. Evie and Kuzar come from very different cultures and will take some work to come together and I enjoyed the journey. 4 stars.

Hoping for an updated version

I love this series. Unfortunately this book didn’t quite live up to the expectations set by the previous books.

Several other reviews have mentioned the inconsistencies in the plot and timing, so I won’t address that, but I didn’t see anywhere mention the issues with the names in the book.

There were only three characters that I found throughout the book that had the same name the whole time and didn’t share their name with any other characters. There were at least four names attributed to two different characters and one character who had two different names at different places in the book. Combined with the timing and plot issues, it just was very hard to keep track/understand what was going on in this story.

My hope is that this might be re-edited and then updated. I would love to read it again if everything fit more cohesively.

My honest review. I'm normally nicer about my reviews but this one? Nah. 1.5 stars i wanted to dnf so bad because of how hard this was to get through. From page 90 to the end it was like two different people took over the writing. A lot of mistakes were made and a lot of lines were repeated or reused which got me to a point of not even irritated but pissed off to almost just ending it. Also a lot of time jumps but no telling how long it had been between the jumps which irritated me a lot. Even some were like copy and paste. The story had potential but terrible execution. Would i read this one again? Absolutely not. Maybe if it was rewritten or more thought out. I'm sorry but this one was probably the worst in the series for me personally. I skimmed a lot of the last 50 pages because again a lot of repeating.

No Bueno - I've Read Better Books in the Series

I don't usually leave reviews about the books I read, because honestly I am too lazy, but this time I had to. I enjoy the monster human bride series, BUT this book had so many issues in it to be an enjoyable read. Repeated paragraphs for one, spelling errors, and a drawn out storyline towards the end made it a hard read for me. I get the characters love each other, but do they need to do it every paragraph in the story near the end. And it's like there was no proofreading done at all for this book. Also, the healer in the story Geraldi was confusing. In one paragraph, the healer is a woman, in the next paragraph, the healer character is a man. Not a good read in this series, unless you like repetitive paragraphs, spelling errors, and drawn out ending.

This story was a hot mess which is really sad because it had a lot of potential and there aren't many gargoyle romances in circulation. Unfortunately it is probably the most badly edited story I've ever read.
Conflict arcs were started but never finished. It's as if the author had an idea but gave up and moved onto something else. This happened 4 or 5 times. Also whole paragraphs were repeated. Characters started as one thing and later changed to something else, for example the character addresses as a chiefton later appeared towards the end of the story addressed as a sentinel.
I've quite enjoyed this series but this is hands down that worst book. I've never told anyone to not read something but on this occasion I'd say save yourself the headache and skip this one. The only reason it got 2 stars is because I did quite like the main characters.

This book NEEDS to be re-edited and preferably by a third party aka not the author/ whoever edited this in the first place. Ain't no way this amount of repetitive conversations, and frankly useless internal monologues, went unchecked if this was properly edited and cut down. Also this heroine pisses me off to no extent like holyyyyy. Easily the worst book in this entire series so far.

Also did the authors of this entire series just not talk to each other??? Like HUH? Why is the Marriage Temple doing 10 different things in 10 different books? Did none of yall have a singular meeting where you sit and say "Hey let's just make it so the Temple sends at least the exact same prompt of 'match found' letter to people". Even though I enjoyed a couple books, the series as whole is soooooooo uncohesive, very obviously written by different authors and doesn't even seem like it's in one world.
