Hi, I'm Paul Teague (writing as Paul J. Teague), the author of the Don't Tell Meg trilogy, the Morecambe Bay series of books as well as several other standalone psychological thrillers such as Dead of Night, So Many Lies and Now You See Her.

I'm a former broadcaster and journalist with the BBC, but I have also worked as a primary school teacher, a disc jockey, a shopkeeper, a waiter and a sales rep.

I've read thrillers all my life, starting with Enid Blyton's Famous Five series, then graduating to James Hadley Chase, Harlan Coben, Linwood Barclay and Mark Edwards.

If you love those authors then you’ll like my thrillers too.

I started off writing thrillers with the Don’t Tell Meg Trilogy which draws upon my 18 year career in radio journalism.

It’s fast-moving, high action and a bit racy in places, but it was great fun writing the story and I hope to re-visit the characters one day.

My standalones are ‘can’t-put-down’ stories where normal people find themselves in extradordinary situations.

I also write sci-fi and dystopian novels as Paul Teague and these stories are set in dark and sinister future-worlds.

I have written The Secret Bunker Trilogy, The Grid Trilogy and the stanadlone story, Phase 6.

What a conclusion!! I’ve enjoyed this ride with Hollie. This was just an edge of your seat trilogy. In this 3rd & last story, we get Sister Brennan’s story. What a sad life she led before she found God. You get why she ended up being the way that she was, right or wrong, but either way her story was incredibly sad. Hollie is on a race to finally put all the puzzle pieces together, & bring this to a conclusion. This was very well thought out & well written. I sincerely hope that there is going to be more books featuring Hollie.

The last in the DI Hollie Turner ‘Sister Bennett’ case. WOW what a great trilogy this has been. I read book 1 not realising that it was a trilogy, I didn’t get to read book 2 for a little while after and whilst I just about remembered the storyline from book 1 I do think it would be better to read the 3 books after each other. Each book is left with a cliffhanger and the storyline was original and gripping. Looking forward for more cases with DI Turner!

A thrilling, fast-paced conclusion for DI Hollie Turner and the case of the mother and baby home. I'd recommend this series to anyone who enjoys crime thrillers.

Talk about perspective... the flashbacks of Sophia Brennan were the most heart-wrenching and informative of the series.

Everything, well almost everything, was wrapped up nicely. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next for Hollie!

Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing & Paul J Teague for an advanced e-copy of this book.

The series was wrapped up in this third book. Definitely need to read the books in order! I loved the back and forth between past and present time. Your heart breaks for all the victims in the overall situation that occurred. Definitely enjoyed this book the most out of the other two. So many questions become answered and the truth is unfolded.

Wow!!!! The third book in the trilogy and it was definitely the best.

All three books left you wanting more. You become invested in the case and the characters, living each page as you turn it.

I would 100% recommend all three books.

So in this third book in the DI Hollie Turner trilogy we finally find out what really happened on the day that Sister Brennan died.
I’ll admit that I was on the edge of my seat wondering about how it would all play out. I did very much enjoy this trilogy. Fun easy reads and FINALLY it all ends without a cliffhanger!!

The Phantom Paragrapher here, and folks, I'm not kidding when I say this book left me emotionally wrecked in the best possible way.

You know that feeling when a cliffhanger grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go? That's exactly what happened after finishing Her Last Cry. Lucky for my sanity (and sleep schedule), I had Her Fifth Girls ready on my Kindle because honestly, who has the willpower to leave a Paul J. Teague cliffhanger hanging ?

This third installment doesn't just continue the story—it excavates the soul of it. We finally dive deep into Sister Sophia Brennan's psyche, and wow, what a masterclass in character development. Paul J Teague reveals why she became the nightmare she was to those teenage mothers at the Unwed Mother's Home. Her cruelty wasn't just institutional—it was personal, born from seeing her own traumatic past reflected in every frightened girl who walked through those doors. She was seventeen once, raped and pregnant, and watching history repeat itself turned her heart to stone.

The revelation about "Twiggy" and her law enforcement career had me literally gasping at my screen. But it's the killer's storyline that really twisted the knife. This man, believing he's Twiggy's son, has built his entire identity on a lie fed to him by corrupt religious figures. When the truth finally surfaces about his real mother's identity... chef's kiss for that plot twist, Paul J Teague.

What absolutely destroyed me (in the best way) was the reunion of the mothers with their stolen children. After all the horror, manipulation, and institutional abuse, watching these women finally find their babies—now grown—felt like watching flowers bloom through concrete. Sometimes the most beautiful moments emerge from the darkest chapters.

Here's where I get real with you, dear readers. This series has always hit close to home, but Her Fifth Girls felt like a punch to the gut. Between Ireland's ongoing revelations about 800 babies found buried in septic tanks and my own family's story, Paul J Teague's fiction feels uncomfortably close to reality.

My mum had my older half-brother taken from her because some hospital bureaucrat deemed her "unfit" due to her autistic traits. Five years later, she raised me and my siblings with more love and strength than most "fit" parents could muster. She passed in 2013, but she'd be thrilled knowing that brother she lost found his way back to our family. He's closer to my siblings than I am—different personalities, same heart.

Paul J. Teague has crafted something special here. Her Fifth Girls doesn't just tell a story; it bears witness to institutional trauma while celebrating the unbreakable bonds of family. It's mystery, historical fiction, and healing all wrapped into one unputdownable package.

The third and final part of the murdered nun trilogy.

DI Helen Turner is hot on the trail of the murderer, but she has a fair few obstacles to overcome before she gets her man. With adopted children, now adults, popping up all over the place, Helen has to decide who is the perpetrator and who are they in cahoots with. Loads of red herrings, false leads and n’er do wells, there is lots of action. After a clearing of the air, Anderson has become Turner’s trusty sidekick, though DS Patel is a force to be reckoned with too. With the majority of her team fully backing her, Helen is confident she will get a result, but at what cost? With members of both her team and the station in general at risk (no spoilers!), will she run out of time?

Well what a turnaround! After my fairly scathing review of The Fallen Girls, I only read Her Last Cry to get closure. When that book yet again ended on a cliffhanger, annoyingly I had no alternative than to read this final instalment. This was the book I’d been waiting for, action packed, dead ends tied and a successful ending. Exciting and fast paced, I read in no time at all and really enjoyed.

However, this doesn’t take away the fact that three separate books on the same case is too annoying, even though they arrived very speedily. As the story was so long it did need all the books, one book wouldn’t have made commercial sense. Not sure what the answer is, but if I’d given up after book one, or not even read any as I don’t like cliffhangers, I would have missed a cracker of a story.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm.

The Fifth Girl’ is the third and final book in the Sister Sophia Brennan/DI Hollie Turner trilogy. I hadn’t read the first book in the series, but had read the second and loved it, so was looking forward to this and it did not disappoint.
The story commences with the cliffhanger from book 2, switching between the 1960s/1970s and the present day. DI Hollie Turner and her team investigate the shocking murder of the nun and try to unravel the secrets of the mother and baby home in Hull. This is complicated by the fact that adopted babies from the home are now appearing as adults, all with their own complex backstories.
Also, we have the full past story of the murdered nun, Sister Sophia Brennan. Her story is heartbreaking. It now becomes clear why she has acted the way she has with her young charges at the mother and baby home. I like the skilful way Paul J Teague allows the reader to understand her actions, but not end up being overly sympathetic with her.
The characterisation is spot-on throughout the book. In particular, DI Hollie Turner is a character I like a lot and she appears to now be gaining the trust of her team. The plot is fast-paced. My only tiny criticism is the ending is tied up a little too neatly so it almost feels like an anti-climax.
Still, a really good read which I would recommend. 4.5 stars rounded down to 4.

‘The Fifth Girl’ is the third and final book in the Sister Sophia Brennan trilogy, and it goes without saying that the books should be read in book order to fully appreciate the tale and the characters. As with the previous books we have chapters from the past – namely the late-sixties to the mid-seventies and then present day, where DI Hollie Tuner and her team are still investigating the brutal murder of Sister Sophia Brennan.

This time, our past story is that of Sophia Brennan herself, and what a heart-breaking tale it is. We finally get some insight into why she treats the girls she is supposed to be caring for, at the mother and baby unit as she does. Hollie and the team continue to develop, and it has been pleasing to see the character progression throughout the three books. I personally felt that this instalment runs at a medium to fast pace – as all the pieces start to slot into place, and lead to a nicely tied up conclusion. There are some periods of repetition throughout the three books, and I do wonder if the trilogy could have been delivered just as well over two books. All in all, I have enjoyed all three books and am keen to see where Hollie and her team go next.

DI Hollie Turner is still the lead investigator for the murder of Sister Sophia Brennan who worked at a home for unwed teen mothers. As she begins to question a new suspect, our mystery grows deeper.

Again, this story jumps back and forth in time. In the present day with DI Turner and back to 1968 with Sophia Brennan before she became a nun. We learn of the trauma she went through and how she came to be the woman she was.

As the story progresses, we get to see how Hollie is when her kids come to visit. But as always things don't go as smoothly as she wishes. Again and again the man in the red ball cap keeps appearing. The investigation into the home for mothers and children deepens. How is this all connected?

This is definitely a medium-fast paced book which is befitting the final book in a series. There are still many twists and turns to be had which will keep you guessing until the very anticlimactic end. While the ending was wrapped up with a bow, it still felt like a let down.

The final installment in the detective Hollie Turner trilogy is called The Fifth Girl. I received a copy from Storm Publishing via Netgalley and it was published on the 29th of January.

We continue where book two ended. Detective Hollie Turner is close to cracking the case and catching the killer when her Chief, Rose Warburton, goes missing. It's all connected to the mother and baby home. Turner needs to look at the past to uncover all the secrets to be able to solve this case. With more than one life hanging in the balance, Turner needs to work quickly to try and save innocent people.

This is the perfect ending of the trilogy. The story just evolved from books one and two into this perfect climax and ending of the story. We get to know the characters much more than the two previous installments so we understand the story perfectly. And it all leads to the ultimate culmination of the story which is described so well that it's a shame that it's done after these three books. This trilogy is an absolute recommendation!

An Adrenalin Rush and Fast Paced Book.
The fifth Girl by Paul J. Teague is the third and final book in this series. It is an excellent series, and this book is the conclusion of the death of Sister Sophie Brennan and how Detective Hollie Turner and her team move forward with so many more questions than answers as the clock ticks down. The story gets better and better as it grew closer to the truth, and it has a twist at the end that you will not see coming. The back and forth between the past and present worked we throughout all three books. The Fifth Girl is a fast-paced thriller in the case of Detective Hollie Turner and the mother and baby unit in Hull that is guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat trying to guess what happens next.
The book is a gripping mystery and an addictive crime thriller which I highly recommend. Thanks to NetGalley and to the publishers of this book for giving me a free advance copy of the book to preview and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the final book in the outstanding series featuring DI Hollie Turner. Still searching for the killer of Sister Brennan & the attempted murder of Father Duffy, Hollie thinks there couldn't be much more pressure heaped on her- that is until news reaches her that the District Chief Constable has gone missing. How is this connected to the death & attempted murder she is investigating. Like the previous books in the series the action never lets up. The early life of Sr Brennan is a key part of the story this time. Dreadful though it was & how it damaged her, I still found it very hard to understand and sympathise with her.

I enjoyed the Hull setting as I went to college there in the time-frame of the story. This trilogy has been a roller coaster of a ride & Hollie Turner had definitely earned her place among my favourite detectives! I can't wait to meet this team again. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this excellent series of books.

"The Fifth Girl" is the 3rd book in the Detective Hollie Turner series and what a conclusion to this fast paced trilogy! I definitely recommend this series to all who love crime thrillers!

Like the previous books in the series the action never lets up from the first page until the final page!

A little snippet from the book:

Under pressure to solve the murder of Sister Sophia Brennan, Detective Hollie Turner is close to cracking the case and catching the killer when her Deputy Chief Constable, Rose Warburton, goes missing. It soon becomes clear that Rose has been abducted, and Hollie makes a shocking discovery… Rose's disappearance is connected to Sister Brennan's murder investigation.

I definitely recommend this series to all who love crime thrillers!

The Firth Girl is book three in the Hollie Hunter Series.

I promise you, in this one you will find out who killed Sister Brennan. The three books read like one long book. The first two stop mid scene and are concluded in book three.

I enjoyed reading about the girls and also learning more about Hollie's work team. There are some very interesting revelations throughout.

What I found most intriguing was learning about Sister Brennan's past. Like most of the other characters, she had quite a tale to tell. How she ended up becoming a nun is quite compelling.

This series of books is wonderful. The characters are well thought out and interesting. I felt so many different emotions while reading this series.

I would recommend this series to anyone who likes a great mystery/thriller series.

At first, I found this a bit hard to follow as it seemed like it assumed some knowledge on the part of the reader. I am not sure if this is because there are other related books I should have read first, but it didn’t matter after only a short while. This is a terrific story spanning two time lines and is as disturbing as you would expect a book about rape, murder and forced adoption to be. The author has created some pretty special characters and this is especially apparent when you read the interplay between the various members of the police force working on the case. I loved seeing these relationships develop and feel the author did so in a very credible way, with no false sentimentality.

Book 3 in the Detective Hollie Turner series as we saw with book 2, picks up the story exactly where book 2 left off. Hollie and Jenni have just been involved in a hit and run. Jenni is seriously injured and this makes Hollie even more determined to find their killer. Book 3 is just as captivating as books 1 and 2 and shares Sister Brennan's story with us. We also get to the bottom of what has been going on at the mother and baby home. Another fantastic read which concludes this case for Hollie and her team in a very satisfying manner. I can't wait for their next outing. Recommended++

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If it’s possible this is the best one out of the three because it was so fast paced and exciting, the case just expanded and expanded until it all came to a head in the most dramatic way possible.

I really like Hollie as a character, she has her flaws but she loves her children dearly and will fight to have them with her.

We still don’t know much about her earlier life and I can see a few secrets coming out in the next books ( if we get them, I can hope).

Even though she’s only been the boss for a short while she’s made friends in her team and they all work so well together after a shaky start.

This is the best detective series that I’ve read in a really long time and I hope we get more books.

All three books in the series must be read and in order to fully appreciate the story and for maximum impact.

Books one and two help to set the scene and background to the case and introduce the characters and their history book three (you are heavily invested in the outcome) brought the whole plot to a dramatic crescendo with a satisfying conclusion it was tense, emotive, thoughtful, reflective it just had me hook line and sinker.

It's always brave when an author mixes fiction with reality as there is power in telling the story for the victims and the author executes this with consideration it's clear they've done there research.

A satisfying conclusion to this trilogy am looking forward to what's next for Hollie and her team.

Although I missed the first book in this series, and was intrigued by the second book, I was blown away by the final instalment. In this book, we get an insight into Sister Brennan in 1969, and to what she was trying to do to ease her conscience in 2022. What a sad story! I basically read this in one sitting because I was so invested in the characters and the story. The ill treatment of single mothers in the 60's and 70's unfortunately seems to be common in many countries. This story does wrap up the loose endings and leaves us hoping for more experiences with Hollie and her team. Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for a copy to review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

This is the third in the trilogy and eagerly anticipated.

Hollie Turner continues to investigate the death of sister Sophia. With one of her own in the hospital and strong links to the mother and baby home and in particular to four ladies, can they solve the case.

Wow what a finale! This was fast paced. I could really put myself in Hollie’s place as everything was so busy and the facts were flying in thick and fast. This book really told Sophia’s story. It was good to see she wasn’t always awful, and to live through her, the awful events of her life. I hope there will be a new Hollie Turner book soon.
A 5 star trilogy.

This book was more enjoyable than the second one. There was more going on to keep me interested. The chapters from the past in this book are from Sophia’s POV and what led her to become a nun. Her story was heartbreaking but not enough to make me forgive her for her terrible actions. Everything is spelled out to you so the killer reveal wasn’t a surprise and the ending felt a bit anticlimactic. I definitely think that with some good editing, this trilogy could have been cut down into one book. It’s over 1000 pages on one case with very few twists and a lot of repetition.

The final installment in the Sister Brennan series and what a book. I was so engrossed in the series. I would advise readers to start at the very beginning as they can't really be read as a standalone. This 3rd book has DI Hollie Turner battling to find Sister Brennans killer but to also find one of her own. The back story tells Sophia Brennans story and its heartbreaking and gives an insight into her later behaviour.
I have loved all of the books and can't wait to see what life has in store for Hollie now.

This is a book 3 out of 3 - it is imperative to read the first 2 books in order to understand what is going on. Each book ends in a cliffhanger so you better have all three ready to dive into. It is a great police procedural murder mystery following the case lead by a detective Hollie Turner.
You are already invested with the characters, this book shows the dramatic and satisfying conclusion it was tense, thoughtful ending.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm for my approval to read and review this book.

This is the third in the series and it follows Sister Brennan's back story as told in her voice and how it leads to her murder. DCC Rose Warburton has been taken and DI Hollie Turner and the team swing into action to find out where, who, why, and how! All in all, all the stories and threads are tied up neatly in this book with a surprising conclusion. I look forward to reading more.

I have really enjoyed this trilogy of books, which I highly recommend, featuring Detective Hollie Turner. The plotting has been consistent and I was kept guessing almost until the end. The characterisation was believable, I had to feel sympathy for Sister Brennan and I loved the team dynamics. I really hope there is more to come from Hollie and I eagerly await more adventures!
