Negative aspects: A.) Magic does not exist. The "spells" included assume that it does. B.) Clearly a mainstreamed neo-pagan approach. Is "mainstream neo-pagan an oxymoron? In any event, it should be avoided by Christians, Jews, Muslims, and scientific humanists. Positive aspects: A.) The "spells" are, to the best of my knowledge, pretty standard. Most are variation of protection spells which may give a child a sense of control over their perceived environment. B.) Each "spell" is followed by a template for lab notes, thus preparing our young wizard/scientist for good lab habits. Among other things, the young experimenter needs to take note of the lunar phases - always a good habit for connecting with the natural world.
