Rate this book
Katherine Abernathy is so over her alpha brother Mark's obsession with finding the mysterious "heir" who will restore peace and balance to the shifter kingdom. So far, their hunt for her has been anything but. Tired of being chased, charred, and chomped by the "chosen one," Kat sneaks away from her brother only to be seized by a crimson-cloaked huntress named--ironically--Salvation. But when Kat's abduction turns into a seduction, Kat will have to choose between loyalty to her brother and bloodline, or the promise of a passion with the power to change not only her destiny, but the fate of the entire shifter world.

About the author

USA Today bestselling author Cynthia St. Aubin wrote her first play at age eight and made her brothers perform it for the admission price of gum wrappers. A steal, considering she provided the wrappers in advance. Though her early work debuted to mixed reviews, she never quite gave up on the writing thing, even while earning a mostly useless master's degree in art history and taking her turn as a cube monkey in the corporate warren.

Because the voices in her head kept talking to her, and they discourage drinking at work, she started writing instead. When she's not standing in front of the fridge eating cheese, she's hard at work figuring out which mythological, art historical, or paranormal friends to play with next. She lives in Colorado with the love of her life and three surly cats.

Mark's sister Kat takes centre stage.

I know we got introduced to Kat in the first book of the series but it was a very short meeting. How we get a short story written from Kat's perspective and.it's brilliant. A retelling of Hansel.and Gretel set in the 1600's Mat is sick of following Mark around while he tries to.find "the Heir" his father mate and the woman destined to save the werewolves from extinction. After over a hundred years and five "mates" who failed to fall for Mark, Kat is to.say the least fed up. She has arranged passage on a ship to the new world and.intends to go as far away from men and wolves as she can get, her brother included. Unfortunately on the night she is to leave Mark finds another "heir" and as ever he's convinced this one is The One........................

I received this ARC copy in exchange for my honest review. Thanks, Cynthia!

This was a super cute read! Fun setting, interesting characters, and a fast moving plot. There were only three main characters that were the focus, and with a story that short it was great. Fun romantic mystery with a hint of spice and enough fun dialogue to keep the story moving. Great for getting out of a reading slump with a fun pick-me-up or just for a quick binge.

Kat and Mark, sibling werewolves, have lived a long time. This is Kat’s story from the 17th century when she meets a lovely vixen, Sal. While the siblings are trying to find an heir they run into some trouble. Even as a novella there’s a lot happening in these five chapters: suspense, love, witches and sarcasm. If this is your first book for this series no worries because it’s loosely connected, Mark is one of the main characters in the series. I got to read an early copy and have written this review voluntarily.

Great short about Kat the werewolf-witch making her way to Salem, Massachusetts. Kat has been traveling all over with her brother Mark looking for the mysterious heir who will restore peace and balance to the shifter kingdom. She is done with the travel and the battles and just wants to live her life – well away from her family and the patriarchy of the wolves. She meets Salvation who was originally to deliver her to a powerful witch but ends up with another plan! Great read!

I really like this series, but this book felt a little rushed. I did enjoy learning about Mark's sister and hopefully she makes more appearances in further installments of this series.

Short, but cute novella.

This was a great quick read. While I think there are small details that make more sense if you’ve read the previous books, this novella could be considered a stand alone.
While it was fun seeing a younger Mark, I really loved Katherine’s story. I standard Cynthia St. Aubin fashion there was humor, plot intrigue, and some sizzle.

I felt like this was a retelling of a mix of red riding hood and Hansel & Gretel with a twist. I did enjoy the book although I did struggle with the Irish verbiage in some areas.
Overall I did enjoy it.

A very sweet novella with wonderful ties to the previous books of the series. I adore the writing style so much. A wonderful balance of suspense, spice, sweetness, and overall hilarity. I can't wait for more of Kat in the next book!

Cute enough for what it was - a short romp through a bigger overarching story. It's also an insta love/ lust story.
Seeing how utterly ridiculous and inept Mark was was a little disappointing. I'm not sure I could believe men could be that stupid.

Intriguing story!

I’m not sure if I liked this story. Parts I did, and others not so much. But the one thing I’m sure of, I couldn’t stop reading. The book needs some editing. Overall it was interesting and I want to know more of what Kat and Sal’s powers really are.

2.5 stars. I still didn't get an understanding of Katherine's insane hatred.

This is a really quick read. It is a fantasy with three main characters. Kat is a shifter who is looking to change her life. Readers will enjoy the swift dialogue and the great way the story concludes.
