The clock is ticking, and it seems like everyone wants a piece of me. Alaar wants me to be the savior of the universe. The werewolf Alpha of Ironclaw is obsessed, and has sunk to horrifying new depths to get his paws on me. Poor Sarah, the poltergeist, has had a breakdown, and I'm the only one who can stop her from razing Castlemaine to the ground.

Even Dwayne is driving me insane. There's no training in this world that could prepare me for dealing with a love-sick battle goose.

The only person who I want to have a piece of me, the only person who I want to get closer to...

The Vampire Lord. He's suddenly keeping me at arms length. There's a traitor in our midst, a troublemaker, someone lurking in the background, keeping him away.

And I'm making things worse. I can't tell him the truth. Not yet.

This series shouldn't really be 5 stars in the grand scheme of books. But I'm rating it 5 stars because it is just so damn readable and entertaining, with characters I just adore.

While the world building isn't deep, I love how original it is with these God characters being splinters of Jungian archetypes. I love all of the random supernatural creatures and Dwayne...who can not love a book with a blood thirsty battle goose?

My only slight disappointment is that Chloe and Mallik's scene was a cafe to black - it's always a bit of a disappointment when that happens after such a build up. However, this series has been so enjoyable to read, it feels wrong to rate it any less.

I'm hoping the other books in this world are as good!

Good

Chloe is getting mad. Someone has been attacking her friends, the werewolf alpha just won’t give up, and Malik is acting distant.
They still have several entities to collect and send home, and that’s all on top of dealing with her mother!

This third book in the series starts a little after the end of the second, and takes place after some of the events mentioned in the Blood and Magic series (this book is a spin-off from that series, but it’s not necessary to have read the books even though they do intersect a little). It is definitely necessary to have read the other books in THIS series though!
The pace starts picking up, as Chloe and Malik are having to deal with the threat of the Lightbringers; meaning that it won’t be long before their time is up as far as sending the god-energies back to where they came from.
Meanwhile, Chloe is working flat out to try and save as many people as she can, while forgetting to eat and sleep herself. Both Jeb and Sarah are targeted, which means Chloe has to travel to fix the issues.

This was an engrossing read, with plenty of action, a little romance (mostly off page) and some interesting revelations (sharp eyed readers will probably have guessed these as there are clues).
It ends on a bit of a hook, as something dramatic occurs, but nothing traumatic, and no need to wait since the final book is already out!
An enjoyable read, urban fantasy fans, especially those that like morally grey MCs and a slightly darker worldview, will enjoy.

I'm inhaling this series. The plots are a mix of bizarre, due to the world the story is from, and simple, you can see what's coming a mile away. But they are so entertaining. Chloe is the kind of heroine I love. Badass but not a martyr. Funny, able to build relationships and take things as they go.

The side characters and situations are so ludicrous they become hilarious.

The reason I gave 3 stars it's the lack of real romance. The closed doors scenes and quick resolutions in Chloe and Malik's relationship were very underwhelming. If we got a longer story and more interacitons between them this could've easily been a 5 star read.

Is it bad that I want this series to go on and on? Completing this book just made me want this series to go on forever and never end. Daphne, Dwayne, Nathaniel, oh, and I guess Chloe and Malik are just so much darn fun. As Daphne really shouldn’t be encouraged, I probably shouldn’t say I love her…quirks, but I do so darn much. And Dwayne…oh, and Norma! How could I forget Norma?!? I laughed out loud, cried, and had such a great time reading this. A well-written, fun, engaging, series that should please everyone who loves urban fantasy. This author has fast become a favorite. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Chloe is.a.character whose story I could follow forever.

Unfortunately there is only one more book, bummer. Chloe and Malik are beset on all sides in this episode, the deadline on returning all the fractured Goes to their homeworld is rapidly approaching and an unknown enemy is using now to launch an all out assault. Unable to harm Chloe or Malik their enemy has targeted their friends and allies. Some are being tortured while others lives are in danger. This is one fight Chloe might not win...........

“That’s the biggest damned dove I’ve ever seen in my life”.

Oh so good. Full of dark humour, a brilliant diverse range of characters with a fast paced story. Chloe along with her constantly growing group of friends that includes a deadly goose sidekick, a hellhound, poltergeist and kraken to name but a few are trying to save the world and themselves. Despite the high stakes, I laughed out loud so many times with this.

Lauretta Hignett doesn’t disappoint in this third book of Waif in the Wilds, I loved Ravenous Beasts. It has action, betrayal, protecting a new-found family, romance, and even more dangerous creatures! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put the book down. Can’t wait to read the next in the series.

Fun doesn't even begin to describe this book! Between the laughter and humour, there IS serious stuff going on, really serious stuff.... like the fate of the world serious. Yep, not just comic relief, although, ALL the comic relief takes the edge off of HOW serious the plot and storyline is. Ms Hignett has got the mix down pat, I'm enthralled, I'm laughing, I'm cringing, my adrenaline spikes and crashes. Well, that's the only way I can describe it, I'm brought to a state of pounding in my head (adrenaline, remember?) to a state of calm, as though I'm under the author's control and she has the "on and off" switch firmly in her hand and I'm the marionette she expertly has dancing to her tune.

As a scary assassin, well, previous assassin, although she's still VERY good at ending whoever needs ending, Chloe sure has the most unlikely friends! She seems to collect all the misfits, the ones that society, both human and supernatural, have discarded. To understand better I'll let you in on a few of them, firstly there's Dwayne, he's a.... goose. Yes, that's right, a goose, a homicidal one at that! But he's the best friend a girl can have, for Chloe at any rate. Anyone who thought a dog was man's best friend, and diamonds are a girls, well....they didn't know about Dwayne! He's always there to dismember any who deserve it and heaven help anyone who even thinks of harming Chloe! Then he comes out in full majestic, psycho mode. Then there's Nathaniel, a sweet, kind, totally wimpy dude, who is a shifter, except, he can't shift. And he's more of a pacifist...or more apt, he's terrified of violence, to him or others. Not a great stance to take amongst sips. His niece, Daphne, might only be a kid, but heck is she a tough little girl. And Sarah, gosh, she's another little girl, who just happens to be a poltergeist, a rather destructive one at that. Then there's Jeb, cursed into becoming a monstrous hellhound, is actually a gentle teen who's, well, stuck. The cherry on the top of friends are Norma and Countess Greenwood. Everyone keeps a wide birth from either, to be on the safe side, but Chloe embraces them all, sees through them all and finds their humanity.

Someone is hurting Chloe's young friends, friends she's so protective of and it's a no brainer that Chloe will do whatever it takes for their pain to end. Except....she wasn't expecting to land herself in a situation that seems impossible to escape from. She's a character that fits so perfectly into the fierce, caring, loving, sassy, snarky, supremely delightful MC, like when you slide in between silk sheets, smooth and effortless. I adore her, everything about her! Having mentioned perfect, it's hard to find anyone more perfect than Malik. He's a god in mortal form, he's a man who feels with every fibre of his being, alien and otherwise, he's scrumptious. He's also completely blown away with Chloe, who evokes emotions in him he's never experienced. I was blown away at how beautifully the auther developed him, the way she twisted out his vulnerability, made him even MORE perfect!

Oh golly, Chloe's life was always thick and murky, he father used her, abused her, so....she killed him. Eventually. BUT, wait! There's more! OMG is there more! If Chloe's mouth dropped open at a certain revelation, mine soundly hit the floor! And it only got better! Or worse... depending on whose side you're looking at it from. From my side as a reader, I was barely able to contain myself, I thought I would self combust, adrenaline, remember? From Chloe's, well heck, she ALWAYS knows exactly what to do, so, yeah, dire perhaps, but way better for her. Suffice to say, the more it unfolded, the more my heart was thumping, until.... until a delicious moment where I honestly leapt out of my chair with a resounding YES!!!! That yes was because....well, nah, you know the drill, READ THIS MAGNIFICENT BOOK! And if I could, if it was at all possible, I'd cast a spell willing the next book to come as quickly as possible!

Braxton Myles alpha of the Ironclaw pack has not given up on getting his hands on Chloe. In fact he is obsessed in his pursuit of owning her after she humiliated him in front of his people, even going as far as targeting everyone she cares about to get his way.

Unfortunately for Braxton, he has no idea what Chloe and her friends are capable of.
He's about to find out....

OH MY GOD this was so freaking great. I was literally on the edge of my seat with this book. There were a few twists and turns along the way that I did not see coming and have to admit more than once my jaw hit the floor.

I continue to adore Chloe who's sassy feisty dual nature makes me smile. And her protective side really shines in this story as someone is after her friends. But it was a revelation about Chloe herself that had me glued to this book (no spoilers) from beginning to end.

I even had to chuckle at Malik who it turns out has a sense of humour underneath all that sexy broodiness in the most dire of times. Oh and just like every male in the universe suffers from the odd bout of jealousy. Yeah I've definitely fallen for him.

But as always it's Dwayne that had me laughing out loud the most in this. The murder goose has not only developed his skill with his bone sculptures from pretty pattens to lovely flower arrangements, he has taken Daphne under his wing as his little psycho wolf cub protege absolutely priceless. I simply adore him.

I can't wait to see how this all ends so I'm off to read book 4. This is an absolutely fantastic series, so if you love monsters with a heart, these books are definitely for you. Highly recommend 😁

Lauretta has done it again! Another amazing book featuring Chloe and Dwayne (and the rest of the crew too!). After finding Chloe's mother, they head back to Castlemaine to find out that someone is targeting Chloe's new found family. After traversing the country to find the people behind the curses on Jeb and Sarah, Chloe and Malik are put in a situation they may not get out of. And then there is the bombshell! Well, bombshells really! Not only doe Chloe figure out who is behind the attacks, she gets some staggering news about herself. This was such a great story, I couldn't tear myself away from the book! I love how Chloe is losing the line between Ice Cold Chloe and Sweet Dumb Chloe and she is becoming a bit of both. Dwayne is an excellent character and I absolutely adore him!! From building bone sculptures in the backyard, to wearing a combat helmet, to saving Chloe and Daphne he is the best sidekick ever. I mean, he even wore a support animal vest to go on a mission! And then there is Daphne - such a cute little psycho! If you love morally grey characters, you will absolutely love the residents of Castlemaine!! They all have their demons and their secrets, but in the end you can count on them.
I love that this book wraps up a major plot point from this series, but leaves it open for more! I mean the ending!!! All I have to say is WOW!! I did not see that coming from one of those characters. And the subtle cliff hanger - I just can't wait for the next book!

A homicidal goose with an attitude and a crush on a siren, a cute-as-a-button 6 year old psychopath, a destructive poltergeist with a conscience, and a hell hound that loves rap music sung to the tunes of old shanty songs. With a supporting cast of characters like this, how can a book be anything other than awesome?

This series gets better every book. The growth of the characters is really building a bond and I think this will be a series that I will still be thinking about well after I've finished reading it (and that's unusual for me).

As well as causing me to have surprisingly deep thoughts about things like the motivations of the characters, this book (and series) is very funny. Many times I've found my husband giving me strange looks when I started suddenly laughing out loud. This straight- faced consideration by Malik, relating to a prophecy about the end of mankind, was my favourite:

“Alaar may have translated the prophecy incorrectly. The white wings may refer to baked goods.”

I am loving this series and can't wait for the next installment. Thank you to Lauretta Hignett for my copy of this ebook. My opinions are my own.

As usual, Lauretta Hignett hit it out of the park.

Chloe, is still trying to solve several issues. She's helping find the fractured gods to send them back before the lightbringers invade and destroy earth, she's dealing with the vicious pack she stole a little girl from, and she's dealing with her poltergeist and hellhound friends, her goose who's a whole world of issues on his own, and her boss who is falling apart.

That's a lot for anybody. Luckily, she has a very specific set of skills that help her fix the issues with extreme prejudice. (Oh and she's discovered a secret about herself that she's not sure what to do about).

This book starts action packed, and only let's up once in a while so you can get a breath. Don't expect to set it down for long. I suggest taking your hydration to the bathroom with you to save time.

Pick up this wild series today! I think Chloe's my favorite of all the heroines in the linked world!

Ravenous Beasts (The await in the Wolf book 3) by Lauretta Hignett is a 4.5 ⭐️ read.
Something is happening to Chloe’s friends and she’s determined to find out who is doing it and stopping them, she’s still having trouble with the werewolves and if that wasn’t bad enough someone had put out a hit on her mother.
I’ve read a lot of books over the years and a lot of different authors and there’s a few whose books I completely binge in one sitting and impatiently wait for the next book and this author is one of my top 10 authors I do this for, the characters, the storyline and adventures her books have everything I love, I can’t recommend this author enough.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I love how fast paced this story is. One plot point isn't dragged on for half the book or over a series of books. Chloe faces many obstacles but tackles them straightaway and then goes on to the next. It makes for an exciting read and not one single moment of boredom. In this 3rd installment, the stakes are higher than ever and time is running out. We get some answers about Chloe's origins and what her ultimate destiny will be. Her little found family of monsters are truly the best parts of this series. We get a little more history about Jeb and Sara and a truly epic reveal about Nate. I would be happy just reading a book about them hanging out and bantering all day.

Eagerly awaiting the next installment of this series! Can't come soon enough.

I finished my ARC copy of Lauretta Hignett's Ravenous Beasts last night.
OMG! I stayed up way too late! But I couldn't put it down.
So much is revealed in this book. So many traitors! But Chloe also discovers the depths of friendships she's found in Castlemaine. Lord Dwayne is sooo.... messed up 😂 But he's also loyal and fierce.
There is not a 'real' cliffhanger at the end, but it's obvious there's another book. We still have to find out who the last three fractured gods are. I think I know....but no spoilers!
I can't wait for the next book!!

Hot Dang!

Book 3 in an epic saga is done and oh my goodness. There's a ton to unpack and look forward to in this one folks. From startling revelations, to betrayal, to justified butt kicking, to a couple people finally getting payback and a couple more getting what they deserve, Lauretta has crafted a non stop action fill book. There's so many sub plots to go with the main story and nothing disappointing at all. Truly a master if her craft in this one. Pick this up and read, you will love this.

shocked

Oh my goodness. Chloe literally runs this whole time. She has to save pretty much every friend she made that is now part of her family. They always say it will get worse before it gets better. This is that case. This is where the nonsense hits the fan and everything is coming all at once. I wanna hug Chloe. She is amazing and I hope she can find a way to help everyone, herself included. Because I seriously had tears multiple times in this book. The last 2 chapters…. Wow…. I’m not even sure where to go right now. Book 4 cannot come fast enough.

I’ve been having a blast with this series. It’s may be my second favorite after Sandy’s. Learning about the new, real Chloe has been awesome. This story is a lot darker than the prior series, although the last two books in Prue’s series started getting darker (eg torture scenes, race supremacy, etc). Chloe and her mishmash of friends are all very, very morally gray, and I’m totally here for it.

I’ve also probably enjoyed Malik as a romantic interest the most out of all the series. Very intrigued about the final book and how Ms. Higher will solve the two world problem at hand.

entertaining urban fantasy adventure series

This is an entertaining urban fantasy adventure series. Great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. This is the third book and Chloe story once again she is helping the sprinter God find their brother and to return them home to their dominion dimension. Help them return all their breath back to their own dimension before the light bringers Arrive and begin destroying the Earth. They must still deal with the crazy werewolf pack among many other twist and terms. Read on and follow the adventure.

Good addition

Moves so fast. I love this series. Dwayne is my favorite battle goose.
I like the story. I like Chloe. But I didn't like waiting for Chloe to catch up with me with what was going on. If you're going to leave things so obvious, don't drag it out. It's annoying.
Love the idea here about the aspects of a concept and the light bringers.
I like the shades of grey in all of the characters. I also love that Nathaniel has finally been vindicated.
I'm eager to read the final book.

good

I really like Chloe in this book. She seemed to be less of an assassin and more wanting to help people. The sexual tension between her and the fragmented God are interesting. They explained a little bit more in here about the light bringers, Daphne, and her uncle end up getting kidnapped, and Chloe, and an abnormal group of friends go help rescue them. I did like the mystery of who’s causing them problems and of course, Chloe figures it out at the end. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

"F@*k it. I turned around and walked away." I never thought I could relate to Chloe on a personal level but this quote hit hard, the defeat knocked out of her and then she dusts herself off and fights some more!
Chloe and her misfit friends make the perfect team, chaos at every turn. She really is saving the world fixing 1 person at a time, kicking arse with her murder goose side kick!
I devoured this book, and can't wait for next one!

soooo good!!!!

The only thing that I’m so frustrated about is the ending of the book. Why did it have to end so soon? Why did it have to end that way? Why is the next installation so far away?
This author has done a number on me and has definitely had me hooked since the first book in the series. I’m really unhealthily addicted to this series and now after this brief addition I’m now going back in my period of wait.

I'm on the edge of my seat!

I can't believe how immersing these books are! I have fallen in love with all of these characters! I can't wait for the next one. I just wish there were more of them I've read every single one and have loved them all. Brilliant yet somehow ordinary Imogen, tough and loyal Pru, sweet yet strong Sandy, and my very favorite sweet, tough, killer, Chloe. I can't wait to see what's in store for all of them!

It just keeps getting better!

Bring your blueberry muffins, Sir Dwayne had a story to tell you about how one goose doesn't get to bath his feathers in mayhem nearly enough. The poltergeist, hellhound, and mostly questionable witch are all appropriately sympathetic, of course.

There's also shifters, zealots, old stories, new stories, humour, romance, sizzle, and destruction.

But Dwayne (the goose) will tell you those aren't the important parts, only the muffins and mayhem.

A Definite Must Read

Wow! What an imagination Lauretta Highnett has! She is so good at creating many layered characters that you love or hate.
Move over Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews(?), I have another author to add to the pantheon of "Greats." Read this hugely talented author, and you'll be so enriched by the experience that you'll be like me----looking on Amazon for anything she has written.🥰

A close betrayal

This was by far the best one in the series I think. You finally get to find out what happened to Sarah, more history on Jeb, why Nathaniel is the way he is, shocking revelation on Chloe and her parents and things finally go down with Braxton. This is such a roller coaster of events you will be so hooked you can't put it down. I just adore this series and after everything that happened in this book I can't imagine what the next one entails.
