BADRI YATRA 1961
The author was fortunate to travel with Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba to the holy shrine of Badri Narayan in the Himalayas way back in 1961 with the handpicked group of about 200 people.
The wonderful journey was organised by an ardent devotee of Bhagwan Baba, Sri Boorgula Ramakrishna Rao garu then Governor of the state of Uttar Pradesh and his humble wife Smt Ananta Lakshmi garu.
Way back in 1945 when the author met Bhagwan Baba for the first, in person as an young girl, He encouraged her to jot down day to day incidents, on a daily basis in her diaries. It is due to this habit, she could describe this journey in detail, starting from Madras now called Chennai to Badri and back to Chennai. The author prefers to mention Bhagwan Baba as Swami in all her books.
This book describes in detail; the meticulous planning of Swami, His concern for the devotees as a divine Mother, His selfless pure love, His inculcation of devotion to the Almighty in the long and hazardous journey through the narrow unstable crude pathways, the glory of firm belief in the Lord, the power of Hari nama chanting, Swami as the miraculous saviour of the people, the inner-meaning of famous Prayags, blissful Bhajans, the resolve to face hardships, the importance of unity and understanding in a group, the courage to face unseen disasters, and much more.
In those days, there was no transport from Joshimatt to Badri, the only option was by foot. This gave them the opportunity to ride on dolis, sit in sling bags behind the backs of the strong local tribes, mules, horses, etc. They were blessed to walk in close proximity with Swami, all the way to Badri and back to Joshimatt.
The people of Badri had the rare opportunity, to have the darshan of Netra Linga (one of the five lingas) brought by Sri Adhi Shankaracharaya from Kailasha, the Heaven of Lord Shiva to the earth. The Netra Linga was installed by him not physically but corporally, deep under the sanctum sanctorum of the Badri Narayan temple, nearly 1200 years ago. This was seen for the first time by any human being.
People who had not been to Badri were motivated by this book and were inspired to visit Badri at the earliest. Most of them were thrilled to complete the journey, having had the divine darshan of Lord Badri Narayan, they also enjoyed the enthralling beauty of Mother Ganga and every inch of flora and fauna, all through the way. The content of the book made them realise the sanctity of each and every spot they visited to their absolute delight and satisfaction.
Badri Yatra original book is in Telugu and has been translated into English, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Hindi, Guajarati, Bengali, Croatia, Spanish, French, Russian, German and Italian.
The first book of the author is ‘Anyatha Saranam Nasthi’, ‘Other than You refuge there is none’, in Telugu and translated into 26 languages.
The readers will surely travel with the author to Badri as they read the book.
