When Jill met Jay Greenfield she knew she had found her forever love. She was a kindergarten teacher, he was a high-powered attorney and their lives were perfect. But when a tragic accident takes Jay’s life, this young bride is left to pick up the pieces.

Have you ever read something or seen something done by another person and thought, I could do that? I’m sure we all have had those thoughts throughout the course of our lives. Mine came early in 2013, I had just finished reading a book and when I was done I felt disappointed. The characters were okay, I wasn’t really feeling the storyline and it was just average. I thought I could have done this better and then I continued on to the next day and that thought was lost. Not soon after that my husband and I were trying to complete our wills. I was a little overwhelmed with all the options and scenarios at play in the documents we had to complete. This then launched a long discussion over what our wishes were if either one of us passed away. Questions like: What if one of us passed away while we were still young? Would the other person remarry? Where would we want to be buried? I was from CT and he was from TX, we don’t have any ties to NC and you can’t move a body once it’s settled. These thoughts kept running through my mind for the next several weeks whenever my mind wandered. Finally, I realized this would be a great plot for a story, a story worth telling, but again I pushed it out of my mind and continued on.
Skip ahead to the summer of 2013. My husband and I vacationed with friends and family on Oak Island, NC. It was a wonderful vacation, finally able to break away from the daily grind of life and unplug from our constant binging devices. It was here one morning during a long run on the beach, that I thought about those characters I had imagined several months prior. In my mind, they had names and a story that needed to be told. I could see Jill and feel her pain and I knew that Oak Island would be the perfect place for her to recover, but how would she get there, what journey would she travel? I thought about this story almost every day while at Oak Island, but again I did nothing.
Finally, about a week or two after the beach, I was home alone one night and couldn’t find anything to watch on the 200 plus channels we had on TV. I sat down in our office, put on some music and started to put words on the page. It started with “I love you” and “I love you too”. The story just flowed and before I realized it, it was almost 3 o’clock in the morning. The next day I got up and again and wrote. I couldn’t type fast enough. It was like I was watching this movie in my head and I was trying to transcribe it as fast as possible.
After about 30 or 40 pages, I stopped and asked my husband to read it. I wanted to make sure it was readable and relatable. Not being his genre of book, as he prefers high speed chases, fights and mysterious treasure, I was worried he wouldn’t relate to this story. But with his encouragement I pressed on. For the next several weeks, I would go to work, come home and write until 2 or 3 o’clock and on the weekends, when able. Before I knew it I had 312 pages of an untitled novel. At this point no one but my husband knew what I had been doing, it was a secret. Not intentionally, but I didn’t have any answers to the questions they might ask. What if it was a bad book? What if it never saw the light of day and then what would I tell them? In this regard I was also able to write without any expectations; I could write freely.
I finally got up the nerve to tell a very small group of close friends and I asked them to read it and share their thoughts. I had a working title of ‘Lights out’ or ‘When the lights go out’. But as I was editing the story for the second or third time (I can’t remember anymore) I found Jill in her bedroom alone having fought a tough journey for over a year and it ended with ‘safe and sound’. As I typed those last words, I knew that was the title, I knew that was it.
From there started a new journey of publishing, but that is a different story for another time. Safe & Sound was a story that came together from a combination of different events in my life, but the most important being that I finally asked myself, ‘why not me?’. I see all these other people writing and doing things they are truly passionate about and why couldn’t I be doing that? I wanted to write a story I wanted to read. Why should I wait for someone else to come up with that, when I have the ability and the desire to do so! I even wrote, ‘why not me?’ on my journal where I keep ideas and sketch outlines. I want to remind myself that the idea of me being an author isn’t as crazy as I imagined and I shouldn’t let any worries I have stop me because I didn’t have a really good answer for ‘why not me?’

I have never felt the tremendous pain that the loss of a significant other brings on one's life, but T.S. Krupa's newest novel, Safe and Sound, transported me right into the life of Jill Greenfield - an elementary school teacher who lost her husband in a tragic accident. I felt the loss, joy, resentment, and excitement of every character in a story that will appeal to any reader.
From page one, I was drawn into the novel. This book is about much more than the loss of a loved one. It is a story of finding oneself in the midst of great tragedy and the overcoming of that grief only to find a new person, a new you, waiting on the other side. Jill Greenfield's experience is made into your experience as you watch her story unfold with mystery, suspense, and unexpected love.
I found myself not being able to put the book down. Every page brought about unexpected twists and turns that kept my attention throughout the entire novel. Just when I believed I had a character or a situation figured out, I was quickly made to realize I had no idea what was really at play.
Since I finished the book, I cannot stop raving about it. I have never posted a review of any novel on a public forum. However, I could not let this opportunity pass by. Safe and Sound deserves to be read by everyone. Its relatable story line and emotionally raw characters gave me a chance to escape from the busyness of everyday life and get lost in a great book. I would recommend this to any and everyone who appreciates a story that needs to be told. Buy this book. You will not be disappointed.

A great read! The story grabs you right from the beginning, I couldn't put it down! You really feel the emotions of the main character and are easily drawn into the story.

T.S. Krupa captures you within the first three pages. You'll find yourself not wanting to put the novel down as you meet Jill in the midst of a sudden tragedy and follow her, sympathetically, as she sorts through her young husband Jay's affairs. Throughout the next year Jill relies on those closest to her - her best friends - as she is no stranger to the loss of a loved one to dire circumstance. On her journey she discovers her husband was not the man she thought he was for secrets will be revealed. However, you'll find that if you jump to your own conclusions, it's not what you were thinking! The love, loss, anger, excitement, and hope are true.
Congratulations on your first novel T.S. Krupa! Safe & Sound was an exciting page-turner that I found myself not wanting to set down. You not only gave your character Jill hope in her widowed life, you also gave the word "novel" a new hope as it was far from the cliché romance novel. I look forward to reading your future work!

A tragedy landed unexpectedly, Jill lost her husband after two years of marriage. She had no idea that her husband had a pretty successful investment and left her 23 millions of assets. Moving to the beach house her husband bought as a surprise gift, Jill expected to have a change in life and move on. And that was where she met Ross, a musician who had a glamorous past as a award winning singer and song writer. Losing his mum cause his career come to a halt. Somehow they are bonded by the fact they both have lost someone important in life and that brings the sparks in their relationship. Now they managed to move on knowing they have each other.
Great story. Jill's last moment with her brain dead husband makes my heart ache and the unconditional love and help from her friends warms up my heart again. With the love from friends and Ross, Jill gets to move on safe and sound. "Hope" is truly the greatest gift we are granted.

arc received in exchange for an honest review
to be honest I'm a bit on the fence with this story , I felt it was somewhat interesting and whilst it was a good read it had a lot of emotion, I loved the strength that came in Lanie and Stella for Jill, I think it lingered in grief more than recovery for a little too long maybe that's just me its a weird one I guess because if I lost my other half grief would be never ending I just don't know if I like it in books , all in all a good read though so I give 4 stars :)

Loved it! A tremendous read that morphs you right into the life of Jill Greenfield, who is the most down to Earth character. You just can't help but feel for her and share all of her emotions as you experiences her story together. Such a great read that I couldn't put down. I recommend it to everyone of all ages!

Safe & Sound by T.S. Krupa is a magnificent read! I was immediately drawn into the story from the very beginning and found that I could not put down because I wanted to know how the story ended.
The story begins on a ill-fated morning when Jill Greenfield decides to sleep in and not accompany her husband on a run. She awakes later realizing that he has not returned home, but did not think too much of it until a knock at the door changed her life forever. It seemed her husband, Jay, was hit by a car while running and when she arrives at the hospital she finds out that he is brain dead. She has to decide to make the life altering decision to pull the plug on his life and trying to comprehend that he will never be the Jay she knows again was very difficult. After a few days, she decides that she has no other choice and says goodbye to the one person that she thought would be with her forever.
The story continues to be marvelous from there. You have great characters in her friends, Stella and Lanie, and her husand’s best friend, Harry, who just causes more problems because he cannot seem to let go and move on. During the whole tragic accident and afterward, for months on end, her girlfriends are there for to be caring, to be helpful, understand, but to finally say, hey you need to try and become a part of this world again and live.
In a series of events, Jill ends up at the beach and starts to feel more alive than she had in months. She meets new people, a new man, Ross, that could change her idea of being alone forever, and someone who might possibly keep her safe, but can she emotionally handle something like that?
The story follows her path perfectly well. I think that she was able to grieve enough to get the sense of how much love that Jill had for husband. She was not ready to move on, not ready to live her life without him, but she had great friends to help her through. All of the characters flowed great together and you could see that they indeed had that friendship that was full of strength, compassion, but of hope as well. Hope that new things would come and spread happiness across their lives and most importantly, the life of Jill.
Safe & Sound has every quality that a great book is made of. It definitely pulled at my heart, made me cry, made me laugh, and I found myself rooting for the characters. If you are looking for a great new read, pick this 5 star book up!

In a series of events, Jill ends up at the beach and starts to feel more alive than she had in months. She meets new people, a new man, Ross, that could change her idea of being alone forever, and someone who might possibly keep her safe, but can she emotionally handle something like that?
The story follows her path perfectly well. I think that she was able to grieve enough to get the sense of how much love that Jill had for husband. She was not ready to move on, not ready to live her life without him, but she had great friends to help her through. All of the characters flowed great together and you could see that they indeed had that friendship that was full of strength, compassion, but of hope as well. Hope that new things would come and spread happiness across their lives and most importantly, the life of Jill.
Safe & Sound has every quality that a great book is made of. It definitely pulled at my heart, made me cry, made me laugh, and I found myself rooting for the characters. If you are looking for a great new read, pick this 5 star book up!

An emotional, but by no means mushy or maudlin, story which pulled me in straight away. Following Jill’s journey as she works through the trauma of losing her husband so early in their marriage is heartbreaking. Although Jill has her two best friends, Lanie and Stella, to help and support her she understandably struggles to get back to some sort of normality.
After coping with scattering Jay’s ashes and going through the house packing up his things I could only feel empathy for what Jill is going through. She is a realistic and likeable character and it’s easy to relate to her. I love the friendship aspect of the story and how it’s explored in-depth, showing how close the three women are, always there to offer help, strength and support to one another. So many emotions are delved into, grief, loss, laughter and anger but it’s also about hope and faith and no matter how dark the day there’s always something to be grateful for even if it’s hard to see or appreciate at the time.
And when the time eventually comes for Jill to settle Jay’s affairs and his estate an unexpected surprise gives her a welcome feeling of hope and peace. A heartwarming and fascinating story and a situation that could relate to anyone.
Great writing and characterisation, all the characters come across as true to life and the intricacies of human behaviour and experiences, good and bad, were handled sensitively. I liked the sense that this is a journey of discovery too. I have never felt the all consuming pain that the loss of a loved brings but T.S. Krupa's debut novel, Safe and Sound brought me to tears, tears so big that I had to put my kindle down, get a tissue and put the kettle on! Once I had my tissue and a nice hot cup of coffee, I picked up where I left off & didn't put it down again!The characters are brilliant! Jill the leading lady was a formidable woman, after suffering the loss of her husband of only two years she broke, but throughout the novel she built herself back up piece by piece with the help of her fiercely loyal and loving friends Lanie & Stella! What I enjoyed most about the book was the way it shifted pace so effortlessly! From Jill struggling to get out of bed to her finding hope! That is what the books main resounding message for me was, Hope! learning to find light in the darkest of places. I also found myself laughing at the witty banter the friends shared, it was real it felt natural, the friendship they had was above and beyond your average friendship it was beautiful!
So yes it is a love story a fabulous delicious emotional love story with a twist! Beautiful is the only way to describe it! as you may know from reading my blog I don't do spoilers! all I'm going to say is this, Get Safe & Sound! fall in love with characters, find hope and enjoy a delicious surfer boy on the beach! Holy emotional roller coaster! I was crying within the first 15% of Safe and Sound, and not just sniffles either...full on ugly crying. This book hit every emotion you can think of. The whole premise of such a young woman losing her husband so suddenly is very sad, but T.S. Krupa did an excellent job of showing true raw emotion.
Safe and Sound followed Jill through the entire first year after her husband Jay passed away, and I really felt completely connected with her. There was no sugar coating the complete despair that you feel when losing a loved one. It also had some of the most touching moments shared with some amazing friends. I was so invested in this book right at the start and couldn't put it down. I needed to know if Jill came out the other end of this story OK, or if the pain of having her future completely altered in a matter of minutes was just too much for her to overcome.
Jill had the help of some of her oldest friends, Stella and Lanie, along with her husbands best friend Harry to get her through the toughest time of her life. She had lost her husband, and also found out that he had been keeping several very large secrets from her. She trusted these people as if they were family, because to her they were the only family she had left. But did they all deserve this trust??? How did Jay keep all of these secrets? Did she really even know him at all?

This was a good first effort for a new author. I enjoyed the story and the pacing was good, but there were a few issues which hold it back from being 5-star.
First, there were a remarkable number of typos in the book, as if the editor gave it merely a cursory glance. Things like missing words, transposed words, misused words (i.e. their/there), etc. Stuff that could easily occur when an author is hammering out a story trying to get their fingers to keep up with their thoughts, but surprised that it wasn't caught by someone or some persons before it hit the printer.
Secondly, I had to wonder why the side story line about Harry was thrown in there. It really wasn't particularly necessary and didn't feel like it was dealt with in depth, nor wrapped up. I would have liked to see that either more fleshed out, or left out as a side line altogether.
On the other hand, I want to commend the author on her handling of the wedding which took place in the story. Thank you for treating that so beautifully and without drama!
All in all, a beautiful look at one woman's struggle to get through a difficult time and embrace her new life, a fabulous portrayal of the sisterhood of female friendship and new beginnings.

Safe & Sound by T.S. Krupa is a beautiful debut novel. The story is about Jill Greenfield coping with the sudden loss of her husband Jay. The loss of her husband happens very early in the book. I wish we had gotten to know Jay initially a little better. Her friends Lanie and Stella rush to be by her side and help Jill get through this time in her life.
While settling her affairs, Jill learns there were things about Jay and their lives she didn't know about. What a beautiful loving surprise this was. Jill does find peace and is ready for another chance at love by the end of the story.
Highly recommend this novel!! I would probably classify this novel more chick-lit than romance either way it was still fabulous. Looking forward to future works from T.S. Krupa.

Paging Nicholas Sparks! You've got some competition and her name is T.S. Krupa! I definitely stayed up until 3 am reading this because I could not put it down.
I was a little nervous heading into this book that it would be your typical, mushy romance novel but it definitely was not. I LOVED that this was a story of hope (we could all use a little reminder). The book's focus was about a woman's journey of recovery from a very sudden and major loss. The story was compelling from start to finish and the characters felt completely real to me. The romance didn't feel contrived and was an added bonus to the story.
If you're looking for your next vacay or "beach" read, "Safe & Sound" should be at the top of your list! Enjoy. :)

Don't normally take the time to leave reviews, but this one earned it. I seriously couldn't put Safe & Sound down. Took me less than 48 hours to read it. A girlfriend of mine suggested I check this book out since I'm such a big Nicholas Sparks fan. She was spot on! Although, I'd say this author was slightly less sappy. Went on a serious emotional roller coaster with Jill and was consistently surprised. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the story would take a different turn. Loved. it. Hoping this author gets her next book out quickly! :)

Great Book! I couldn't put the book down, there were so many twists and turns, I never knew what was going to happen next. I felt the author was very brave in exploring the various and often complex human relationships we all experience. Excellent job, I highly recommend to other readers!

Safe and Sound is a haunting book that will stay with you long after you read it. Jill’s story in many ways is every woman’s nightmare—to find exactly the right man who makes you happy in every way and then lose him in the blink of an eye. Devastation. That is the only word to describe the first fifty pages of Jill’s story. And you feel every second. Are any of us truly safe or sound? Jill discovers that the security she thought she'd found was all an illusion and fleeting at that. Or was it?
As is true in life always, when one door closes another will open, or at least a window will be cracked. Jill discovers that life doesn’t end with a death. Something is waiting on the other end of grief. And time has a way of, if not healing all wounds, cleansing them so that we can see the hurt well enough to stitch it together.
I found the first chapter of Safe and Sound to be utterly tedious in the boring mundane detail that T.S. Krupa provides in every single sentence. And then it hit me, as I hit the last page—that’s life. Boring and mundane, until something happens that rocks you to your core and turns your world upside down. But just when you think it’s all over, it really might be just beginning. Thanks, Krupa, for the reminder!
It’s definitely worth putting Safe and Sound on your summer reading list!

While I've never experienced the kind of grief resulting from the loss of a spouse, 'Safe & Sound' describes the most clean cut/perfect scenario in getting through such a tragedy. Comfort of friends, neighbors, and financial security make the grief that much more endurable. On the flip side, I did find parts of the story slightly convenient and found myself hoping for something suspenseful buried in the plot. I'm also left eagerly wondering how the newly budding relationship will progress - thank goodness for the final extra chapter on T.S. Krupa's website!

This is an amazing first book - especially considering the author wrote it so quickly. For me, though, I wish there had been less about the time immediately after the husband's death (probably because my own husband died last year) and more build-up of the new relationship. That said, I loved that it takes place in NC - and particularly on Oak Island - just a stone's throw away from me.
I can't wait to read her next book! PS - I'm generally a tough rater.

A romance from the heart that begins with Jay and Jill Greenfield, that starts in Greensboro and ends in Oak Island, North Carolina.

My Take
I blubbered my way through most of this story. It starts out so sad, then progresses to angry — although I don't understand how she doesn't get how very much Jay loved her — before it slides through scary until Jill slowly finds herself and her love. It's just beautiful.
It's got to be the nightmare every parent, every spouse, every significant other hates. That missed phone call. That perhaps if you'd only answered that phone, it wouldn't have happened. No, I'm not saying it makes sense . . . sigh . . .
There's something so awful about the paperwork following a death. It's an interruption of the mourning; a feeling of business-as-usual that just eats at you because nothing will ever again be the same; that rush, rush, rush, pushing at you to make decisions when you've barely comprehended the loss. And even as I complain about this, I'm a hypocrite because I also get angry with Jill for avoiding life. Avoiding making decisions, avoiding going forward in any way. She slumps along practically forcing her friends to deal with her life. How selfish of her too! Expecting her friends to abandon their lives to cater to her. And they are great friends. They're there for her through everything.
What was with Jill putting the lawyer off? She has no idea about their finances, wants to quit her job, and she avoids the lawyer for seven months!?? She finally goes in to meet the guy, he hands her one bit of info — admittedly, it is a pretty astounding bit of information — and she wants to run off again?? What kind of rude, stupid idiot is she? On the plus side, she is consistent with her dumb moves. We're led to believe that Jill is an intelligent woman, but these actions of hers make her look just the opposite. I mean, hullo? She gets this new information and doesn't want to stick around to learn more about it? She wants to run off and then ask the questions??? I gotta say, this was off-putting.
So, it's a dream that Jay made come true, albeit post-mortem, and she wants to avoid the whole idea? I'm just lost.
It's seeing the tragedy of loss and how it affects another that makes you realize what is truly important in life, and I'm so glad that Lanie reconsiders her relationship with Mary Elizabeth.
Oh, that Ross, he is such a sweetheart, so sensitive. He has such empathy for Jill, and I feel so sad for him, the horrible experiences that gave it to him, the dream he had to give up. I absolutely love how Krupa builds this new love.
Then there are the niggles:
The biggest niggle is Harry's character. All these years of friendship and he's never manifested like this before? One minute he's saying that Jill is so incredible and the next she's the worst thing since the napalm bomb. No. It could well be the grief causing this extreme, and I mean extreme volte-face, but no, I don't buy it. Too much tell, no show, no buildup. Subtle would have worked better here as it did for Jill's second time around with love. It would have been more terrifying.
As for Lanie and Stella. I love 'em, they're wonderful. They're also too accomodating. It's not a realistic scenario that people can take this kind of time off from their work. They don't have the type of jobs that would allow this expenditure of time.
Okay, I don't buy the utilities being cut off. Jay's been dead a couple weeks and suddenly the water is cut off? For a bill of $24.87? Nuh-uh. It would take a few months and a much higher bill before a utility took this drastic of a step. And Harry's reaction to this cancellation . . . WTF?
Why would you put food in the microwave to keep it warm? I can see putting it in to warm it up . . .
Truer words were never spoken and all women should take these to heart . . .

It’s what happens afterwards that throws Jill off. All those decisions, having to say goodbye forever, Harry’s horrifying behavior. It all sends Jill running on "a yearlong journey of love, loss, friendship, and conquering the unexpected".
The Characters
Jay is the husband Jill Greenfield adores. Officer Harry Conner is Jay's best friend from childhood. Peter is Jay's dad. Stella Conner (nope, no relation), a lawyer, and Lanie Alexander, a child psychologist, are Jill's best friends from kindergarten. Mary Elizabeth is Lanie's girlfriend and a cardiologist.
Officer Patrick Thomas with the Greensboro PD has the patience of Job with those phone calls. Officer Sarah Steely comes to the door. Dr. Shippling has news. Dr. Matthews performed the surgery. Jennifer Bentley is the principal at the school where Jill teaches. Paul Wellon is the lawyer who set up Jay's will. Gary Swanford is the undertaker.
Roger is Stella's boss, lover, and a managing partner at the firm. Abbey is Stella's assistant. Laura. David and Scott are both senior associates in the finance department. Andrew Conklin is a third party consultant.
Oak Island
Ross Powers is Jeff's nephew, and he's working on the construction crew. He also plays a little guitar. Jeff Powers owns the construction company Jay had engaged. Mrs. Kendrich runs a B&B Jay and Jill had always wanted to stay at. Dr. Baker treats Jill. Jamie Prescott is the captain of the Lady Grace. Mandy, April, and Zach are some of Ross' friends.
J. King is a huge deal in the music industry and worked with Ross in the past. Jane handles fans for King.
The Cover
The cover is white on white with a down comforter rumpled on top of white sheets. A white cup of black coffee is on the comforter with an old, old book just above it.
The title is what Jay conspired for and Ross completed for Jill. She’s Safe & Sound.

How can you not adore this sentiment?
