Well rounded story arc
It started with a bang, kept hitting and now completes it's first round on a high and lots of hope for continuing adventure.
All key personalities were on display and our young crew of seemingly misfits lead the way with camaraderie and heart.
The kids have managed the battle lines well and come out unscathed with maybe a drop of good blood with their prime adversary.
Great round to the story arc.
Hoping Scott brings up seconds faster.

After losing my arm to the shroud, it was touch and go for a few days. The medical staff on needle three, they'd never seen anyone come so close and live. When I came out of it, they explained how lucky I'd been. That I should be thanking my parents for my genetics. "whatever's in you," the doctor said, "it sure as hell wants to live."

"whatever's in you, it sure as hell wants to live."

I remember thinking about that line right then, watching Charlie leave. How badly i wanted to go after her. And I’m thinking about it again now, in this crystal prison. That line. Because something in me does want to live. And that thing is angry, furious at myself for letting all this happen. I should have seen it coming, just like my mother would have. I should have pulled my friends tight and refused to leave the needle. I should have screamed at them to look around, to be grateful, to live. But I hadn't. My parents died trying to find shelter for us, for me, and I’d had one and I’d thrown it away. All for what?

Once again Comixology have teamed up with Scott Snyder to produce a new original series. I couldn't resist giving it a go having enjoyed Clear (Comixology Originals) #1, Night of the Ghoul (comiXology Originals) #1, Canary (Comixology Originals) #1, and We Have Demons (comiXology Originals) #1. The twist this time is that the story is also written by his son, Jack.

The story is set 15 years after the spread of the deadly infection that has blighted the Earth. The shroud devoured everything in its wake leaving humanity to survive in makeshift towers built atop of diamond foundations, the only substance known to resist the darkness wave.

In one such group of towers, known as 'kits' we meet our protagonists. Barely surviving, the community has to pay a 'protection' fee to a local menace, Charon, who tells of terrors beyond the settlement, creatures born within the shroud, which he alone can keep at bay.

Having found a mysterious stranger collapsed at the foot of their settlement; he tells of a natural formation of 'black diamond' and a sanctuary for all those who can get there. Intrigued, the gang set off with their new 'friend' in tow.

Soon they discover that Charon's warnings were true as they come up close to the leviathans living within the shroud. However, they are not the true enemy, as the rag-tag bunch find themselves captured and in the midst of a fierce rivalry between Charon and Rowan, the stranger they trusted.

This issue concludes the first arc and I hope that ComiXology continue the story as there is a lot more to tell. A clear 5 stars.
