Christian Scopes was a married man with a beautiful wife and daughter—and then a plane crash took it all away from him. The only person he has left is Rachel, his wife’s younger sister. He adores her. She’s beautiful and charming, not to mention a hard nut intent on keeping him sane. Rachel has loved her brother-in-law for as long as she can remember. He’s been there for her when no one else was. After losing her sister, she tries to be everything he needs … until he brings a woman home with him. For three long years they try to ignore their growing feelings but cannot help growing closer with every passing year. This year is different, as their lives are about to change. Christian cannot let the woman he loves find someone else. The holidays are about second chances. Could this be his chance to finally settle down with a woman he loves? Can Rachel get past her insecurities to give him what he wants? ‘Tis the season for change.
Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound. She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.
I might read if my friend has it to loan me. If not it's a pass. I will not spend money on a ify book as it includes the heroine getting together with her brother in law. It may be a little too much for me.
And I was totally right second DNF here guys. That sucks. But him saying he loved his wife and f*cking anything in the three years since her death is just a nope!!! Don't open again ever.
I really like this authors stories, and while there was a lot about this I liked, there was a lot I didn't like. Christian had been married to Claire and they had a daughter. Claire was rather neurotic always imagining she was dying. But then her and the daughter die in a plane crash. Christian is devastated, Rachel who is Claire's younger sister tries to be there for him. To help himself to cope he goes through women like a hot knife through butter. But the woman he really wants is Rachel.
This is a well written story, and there's much to like. The sex is really hot and very explicit. Christian is an alpha male who likes to be in total control in and out of the bedroom. Rachel is a much less forceful character and although she is attracted to Christian, he was married to her sister. But, for me personally I am not a fan of stories where the hero or heroine have been with a sibling, in this case Christian had been married to the heroines sister. Rachel just seemed too convenient for a Christian to get together with. I appreciate that the author didn't put them together immediately. But it just didn't sit right with me. Of course I realise that's my own view and that it may not bother other readers. But this isn't one of my favourite stories from this author. But it won't deter me from reading more of her work.
2·5* stars, rounding up because I like the author must of the time :)
There's just something about Sam Crescent. Is she the best author out there? No. Do her plots make me want to scream in frustration sometimes? Yes. Are her heroes Over The Top Alphas? Yes. Are her heroine's usually virgins or inexperienced wallflowers? Yes. Do her books contain an odd turn of phrase or two? Yes. Am I strangely drawn to her books and can't stop reading them? Yes.
This book was all that AND it included my least favorite plot of all when... family members have a sexual partner in common.
This book had plenty of smexytime, and hold on to your hats, it got a little too... maybe boring?.. maybe repetitive? and that pretty much never happens for me. Maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind to read this book or something, but it really wasn't the book for me.
Things I liked about this book: ..... uh..... the blurb?
Problems: Basically everything. I'm sorry, but Chris had absolutely ZERO redeeming qualities in my eyes which makes him an utter dickheaded jerky asshole. Oh, she's supposed to quit her job and trust the complete and utter screwup who doesn't know what he wants in life? Yeah, that's going to work out great for everyone. Guys... there's a big difference between alpha males and dickheaded abusive assholes, but it seems like most people can't see it. Chris is definitely the latter.
The blurb sounded so promising, the forbidden love etc... except there was nothing of the sort in this book, mostly just jealousy over past bed partners, body issues, and wishy washyness of the main characters. Disappointing as hell.
3.5 stars The hero is a manwhore but only because he can't have the heroine. Really? He mostly redeems himself but I never quite loved him because of his idiocy. The heroine has been in love him for years but now that he finally acts on the attraction she's squeamish because he's her sisters widower. A lot of angst in this book. Still it's a pretty enjoyable read.
If you’re looking for a book full of second chances and holiday romance this is the book. Hallmark doesn’t stand a chance against this super alpha, high intensity doctor when he finally lets himself feel for the first time. But he wasn’t the only standout character. I absolutely enjoyed seeing his lady love grow into her own as their relationship strengthened and developed. And how can you not love the best side character who ends up being her besty. The beginning of the book is sad and touching and my heart broke along with the characters, but it was worth the heartache to see the HEA at the end. The author brought this family the best Christmas present ever and I can only hope that she writes more like this one in the future.
Rachel had seen a lot of loss in her short life. Chris was a domineering guy. Chris changed when he realized that Rachel was moving on for good. These two had a chemistry and really fit together. This was an emotional story, but it is so worth reading!
I was hoping for a better start to 2015. Nothing about this felt realistic or.....appetising. Chris wasn't particularly likeable and Rachel was barely a character. The book was short but not short enough to excuse such poor character development.
It was okay, but the man and his actions were a bit too much so I skipped them quite all of them. But this book actually was pretty fast to read, so I didn't waste my time since I got to read it and it was OK.
Love everything about this book. He knew what was. She knew what he was, and it is what it is. Nobody is perfect in this world, and this book is relatable.
