Freya’s father has arranged a marriage between her and Eric, who is expected to receive the title duke due to his older brother’s passing, after the death of Freya’s father. The father has added stipulations to the wedding contract to include the couple must bear a male heir, or risk losing Freya’s birth home and being disowned by her father. Unfortunately, they bicker constantly, and have no interest in becoming closer. The story focuses on their developing relationship, while the father manipulates and controls their every day life. What finally brings the couple together and stop their fighting? What other hurdles are in store for the couple? This is an engaging book, with well thought out characters and useful secondary characters. FYI, the story is quite spicy for those who prefer clean romances. I was surprised Eric and Freya didn’t get some type of retribution against the butler’s antics and overwhelming invasion of privacy. It made me gasp! I received a complimentary ARC, but I am voluntarily offering my personal opinion.
Loved reading this story. It was very insightful and inspiring. What I mean by that is, that people even back then judged others on their outside appearance without trying to get to know them. This story was that way, starting with the heroine who let her husband believe that’s how she felt because she did not like the arranged marriage her father set up for her. So, even though she never truly felt that way, once she saw how others treated him and made him feel it gave her the courage to let him know she really didn’t feel that way and their love began to blossom leading them to their happily ever after.
I had mixed feelings about the heroine - in the beginning I felt sorry for her due to her neglectful and abusive father, then I felt she was a spoiled brat thinking only of herself, but toward the end she seemed to have matured and I liked her. The hero I liked from the beginning. His major fault was he was very self conscious of his scar, for which I don’t blame him. Together they must follow her father’s wishes as they get to know each other. There are several steamy scenes. I enjoyed the book
My ratings for Regency novels which include graphic sex are usually 2 or less because the accepted behaviour of time and of tradional writers like Heyer and Cartland didn't need to include graphic sex to show growth of a loving relationship. This novel got 3 because the charcters used humor to move conversation along and they were married, but I would have preferred less graphic sex. Chaoter 8. ...and go stay with him. If you and mother wish, you can join us there. Them instead of him ? Chapter 16 reference to manas was confusng. No definition for manas made sense.
It is a truly enjoyable romantic story of a man returning home from having served in the Navy because his oldest brother has died, leaving him with any family obligations in his stead. One of those is to marry the daughter of an elderly Duke who is dying. Unfortunately, the Lt Commander has a huge slash across part of his face and shoulder, which has made him very conscious of his looks. In society, they did not educate women of what happens in the bedroom between couples. Thankfully, it all works out in the end.
A heartbreaking story of how two sisters are berated and despised simply because they are girls, by their father, Duke!when Eric , a Naval officer learns his brother,Earl has died and returns only to learn Alexander was betrothed to Freya, daughter of a Duke, and he is to take his place. Freya knows nothing about it either until the same day Eric does! What a way for a good story!
Freya’s father is dying and arranged her marriage, but Alexander dies, so Eric his brother assumes the marriage. Freya meets Eric on the road not knowing that he is to be her husband, sparks fly. Freya’s father is an evil controlling man. He tries to infers in their sex lives, making the butler report back to him. It was a good read. I read this as part of arc and it had no influence on my review
Wonderful book and characters. They are thrown together due to his brother dying and the Eric takes his place by wedding Freya. Sparks fly from the beginning as they Clash from the beginning, and seem to argue more than getting along. Sparks fly but in one brief moment to come together and are like two apples in a pie. They eventually get their HEA and so much more. Highly recommend and happy reading.
No I'm not giving one hint to the story. You need to read this one yourself. I will say there is plenty of goings on and though you already know there is a happy ending (always in these stories) , there is much interesting in between the first word and the last. Enjoy
Freya father believes he can rule even after he dies by choosing her husband and demanding they give him a grandson fortunately Eric is rich in his own right and when they fall in love her father looses control of them
Loved the story plot and the choice of characters. With the Duke being badly scarred it seemed to keep him from thoroughly enjoying being around the ton. However, marriage solved all issues for him.
The contrast between the Duke's family and the Campbell family was well written. The forced marriage between Fresh and Eric became love and the blending of the two families positive. Enjoyed the story.
Bitter sweet story. Such a touching story. Really enjoyed how the characters evolved, and realized that beauty is inside and to look beyond the physical.
I liked the characters in this book. The plot was very interesting, and I liked the ending. I'm so glad there was an extended epilogue that wrapped up the story.
I was not particularly fond of this story. Freya was unlikeable and b****y and Eric was ridiculous with his insecurities. The two together were so frustrating!
