Ready for blastoff? Sit down, buckle in, and get ready - that pressure you're about to feel is the weight of Ethan's promises adding up. Promises he can't deliver on. But there's little else he can do in the wake of the Symphony's destruction.

Months after barely escaping the Symphony alive, Ethan and the Night Owls are shepherding the fusion facility's much-needed equipment from Mars to Luna thanks to their new gunship. On top of that, Maki's campaign is struggling to get off the ground, and Marty is fixated on revenge. Ethan would love nothing more than to prioritize each one, but he can't. Something has to give. The only question is which one?

Cascade is a brilliant addition to the Night Owls series, continuing the growth of the characters amidst the ever-growing dangerous backdrop of an interplanetary war. I loved seeing how Ethan has changed throughout these three books, and even as he runs into command issues aboard the Cascade, his ability and willingness to admit fault and take responsibility is part of what makes him so endearing. He and Marty will take you on an absolute rocket ship of a ride, so prepare yourself to love and hate each of them at some point during this read. I enjoyed the buildup of Maki's campaign and her election chances, which was interwoven seamlessly and didn't distract at all from the main narrative. It felt just as difficult as I imagined beginning a grassroots campaign would be. The introduction to Mars was also highly anticipated, and it did not disappoint. Even though the Owls' stay there was short, the worldbuilding was top-notch; distinct enough to make it feel entirely different from Luna, but also similar in ways that mark them as relatively new colonies. Hoping to see more of it as the series continues. And the end...all I can say is wow. Talk about ramping the space action up another level! The entire fight sequence for the last facility shipment was incredible - dire consequences, hope and dread for a friendship stretched to the brink, and fast-moving action that was interspersed with equally funny and frustrating buffoonery from a high-ranking official. It had it all! I can't wait for the fourth book and to see if and how the Owls take down LIF!

I received a beta version of this book from the author. I am writing a review because I enjoyed reading it.

"Cascade" is a great installment in the Night Owls series. Ethan and his friends are helping with the development of a Helium-3 facility on the moon, which will help Luna become independent, while also keeping an eye out for the terrorist group LIF.

While Ethan is doing most of his work out in space, his mom is getting her campaign for Luna representative going. I really enjoyed this added political layer of the story. Getting to spend some time on Mars was also a nice expansion of the Night Owls world.

The characters are still fun and realistic as they navigate the strains on their various friendships and romantic relationships. There is great action and adventure with a good dose of humor.
