Twilight Mages #1

The Royal Curse

Rate this book
Dawn mage. Twilight mage. Cursed, useless, damaged, dangerous…

His birth magic leaves Prince Nikola with nothing but bad choices: live as another man’s possession, subject to his whims and his desires, or remain dependent on a potion that stunts his powers and prevents him from knowing love.

Andreas vows to protect the prince with his life—whether Nikola wants him to or not. After all, the queen pays his soldier’s wage. Nikola’s nothing but a job to do.

But when they find themselves stranded, with Nikola’s potion running out, Andreas has to…improvise. Because what Prince Nikola needs to survive is the opposite of a lowly guard’s respectful protection.

It should’ve been only one night. Just until the potion’s refilled. But now that Nikola’s had Andreas’s touch, he craves Andreas again and again. He shouldn’t. But he—and his magic—can’t live without it…

The Royal Curse is a high-heat MM fantasy romance with a stubborn prince, an even more stubborn soldier, and cursed magic that can’t be denied. There is an on-page attempted sexual assault that is not between the main characters. HEA guaranteed.

Okay okay, hear me out....

In summary: Horny men, doing horny things to each other, omega-verse vibes, with a tiny side sprinkle of a sub-par fantasy plot line... BUT... We literally don't come for the plot so it's pretty perfect? They fall inlove a bit maybe?
As soon as plot was plotting, my brain was straight up like:

Also, for most of this book, the author (BLESS THEIR COTTON SOCKS MAY THEY SLEEP WELL TONIGHT AND GET A FOREHEAD KISS) does not use the cop out of... 1 descriptive smutty scene, and then "and then we did that 3 more times" I HATE THAT SO MUCH. But this author, if they smash 3 times, we know what happens 3 times... I SUPPORT THIS. Away with you ferals who do the fade to black or "we did it again later" PFFFFFFFFFT to you.

Can ya'll just read this, not think too hard, appreciate Andreas even though he flip flops everywhere with what he says, and Niko is a dumb dumb, but whooooooooo cares. It's not perfect. I just came here for the riding... of Andreas, not horses. 💋

I wasn’t overly hooked during this book but it was still enjoyable. There was more smut than I was expecting, not that I’m complaining, it just felt like the story went: plot, then smut for most of the middle (I mean like every few pages they were getting it, stamina is just an imaginary thing ig) then plot again 😂. But I did really like Niko’s character. He was soft and sweet but also sassy. Sweet and sour would probably be the best way to describe his personality. I wanted more on Andreas’ past, more details! More story! It felt like we got little to nothing when it came to him. I also wanted more on twilight mages, like obviously we know about the curse, that’s what the plot is based upon. But I wanted stories of past twilight mages, did they cause any destruction? like why are they feared exactly other than their just powerful. Also Niko kept mentioning wanting to be born with normal magic, what’s normal magic? All that was focused on was twilight mages but what about the other magic! But despite these details I had a good time and Eliot Grayson’s style has been growing on me so I’ll probably continue to the next book anyway.

Well I had so many ideas of things I wanted to say in this review, somehow they've fizzled out now because the middle of the book was so drawn out that I got sooo bored. And that's really dramatic, because it really is a good book.
The structure, the world and the characters are very well done, even if details are missing and you only have Niko's POV. But still really wonderfully written.
Ugh, I just can't get over the fact that the plot-poor passages, which are really filled with super hot nice sex scenes, were still too frustrating for me.
Ok, concentration Dru, you can do this ...
I love the dynamic between Niko and Andreas. Niko is hard to understand at first, he's so volatile, Andreas seems to take a bit to figure him out too. It's so beautiful how he supports him. And how frustrating Niko feels, oh man I suffered so much at the beginning, I wanted to kill all the stupid know-it-all people around him and hang his mother by her hair ... so frustrating.
And how Niko flourishes even though he is so insanely insecure and doesn't want to become dependent on Andreas ... again frustrating how the two of them don't talk to each other sensibly, but oh so beautiful.
The sex and the banter between the two, absolutely delicious.
The finish is fantastic and so is the action that led up to it, it's just a shame that there was so little information about the magic itself, I really missed that, but maybe that's something that will be more prominent in the following books. I have hope ...

I opened my mouth, and Andreas added, “If you’re not about to say, ‘Yes, Andreas, I’ll drink my tea and calm down until you come back,’ don’t say anything at all.” 😂😂😂

“Fuck, don’t look at me,” he said, and before I could take offense, added, “If I see your face I’ll come on it and I won’t get any inside you, fuck.” 😂😂😂

I wanted him. With or without his cock in me. If he wanted to drink tea with me and talk about the bloody weather, I’d be happy with that too. Oh, gods. 🫠🫠🫠

edit 3/13/24:
I LOVE MY SLUTS🤗🤗💘💘

original 12/8/23:
OH MY FUCK these two were engaged in ILLEGAL levels of cockslutery…..my fuck🥵🥵🥵🥵 got me sitting on the floor waiting for my heart palpitations to cease OKAY

first of all, magical curse that can kill you if don’t take your potion (oops it’s gone😏) or you aren’t slutted out every forty-ish hours by ur sexy bodyguard who has lowkey been on his knees for you since day one????? i have NEVER been more sat in my life!!!!!!!!!!🧎‍♀️🧎‍♀️🧎‍♀️

this book right here was written for SLUTS…..jesus these mfs couldn’t even make eye contact without needing to rip each other’s damn clothes off and even when their clothes were already off, they struggled to control themselves:

“‘Stop,’ he said abruptly. ‘Fuck. Don’t. I can’t hear one more word from you.’ ….. ‘I really will gag you if you keep talking, Your Highness. I’ll come before I get a chance to help you if you say another word.’”

“‘Fuck, don’t look at me,’ he said, and before I could take offense, added, ‘If I see your face I’ll come on it and I won’t get any inside you, fuck.’”😳🤤

like andreas couldn’t even hear the words “fuck me” without teetering on the edge of mindless, feral beast:

“‘How am I supposed to look? If you don’t want to—‘ ‘If I don’t want—say the fucking word, Niko. One word from you, and I’ll have you bent over that chair in two seconds!’ His eyes blazed, and he took one step forward and then stopped again, as if he could hardly help himself.”

and the best part is, it’s not just andreas acting sexually insane for the prince…..niko has the same level of control as andreas, which is to say basically none🤣🤣🤣 lmao like this is niko trying to be mad at andreas:

“Damn it, I wanted to smack him. Shake him. Shout at him. Strip off his trousers and climb on his cock and ride him until he lost his mind. No, no, fuck, I didn’t want to do that! Not at all.”💀💀

hmmm u sure about that babe??🤣🤣 like i’m pretty sure the ONLY thing up in niko’s pretty little head is andreas’s cock and when he’ll get it next, curse be damned:

“My relief and joy had nothing to do with suppressing the effects of my cursed magic. I simply craved his come in me, marking me as his lover. How often would he need to fuck me to keep me wet inside all day and night? Every morning and evening at the very least. Perhaps once in the middle of the day.”

like GODDAMN they are just so fucking thirsty for each other!!!!!!😍😍😍😍 like this is the kind of sexual tension and addiction and can’t keep their hands to themselves energy i wanted from the prince and the bodyguard by tavia lark……thank fuck for eliot grayson🫡

andreas and niko are just fucking cute like they’ve just resided on the same slutty, obsessed wavelength since that first time. and they both bring the same energy for each other, both fixated and locked in on each other with the same amount of ferocity and fervor like ugh i could SCREEEAAMMMMMMM😩😩😩🥺🥺

it’s glorious, truly a masterpiece🤧 goodreads awards winners were announced today and already i’m seeing a problem……no category for Desperately Needy Cocksluts…….hmm let’s fix this for 2024 yea???? this book deserves a podium place😌

- bratty prince x royal guard
- hurt x comfort
- only one bed
- fated mates

Prince Nikola, born with a cursed magic, has been managing it for years with a potion that is slowly losing its potency. Without the potion Niko will either die from the intense pain his magic causes him or become controlled by his baser needs, seeking out anyone to help him take off the edge.

He, his personal guard, Andreas, and several of his men, head to join a conclave of other mages where Niko is hoping to find out more information on his curse and how to manage it better. Unfortunately, an accident happens and Niko finds himself in a bit of pickle when his potions are destroyed.

In steps Andreas, willing to do anything to save the prince, even if that means using some unconventional measures. The two have a veerrryyyy steamy night together while waiting for a new potion to be made, but neither Niko or Andreas can seem to resist the pull between each other.

Honestly, I thought this was going to be a compete smutfest given how Niko’s magic & sex tie together—there’s tons of spice don’t get me wrong, but this had a more complex plot than I expected and a fantastic storyline.

Haha please don’t hold my surprise against me, Eliot is a new to me author, but needless to say I’m a big fan and cannot wait for more of this series!

3.5*** stars

Well, there was no elaborate plot nor much of character development. It was what it was: smutty goodness. Nothing more, nothing less. Nestled into a flat and also pretty convenient storyline (I actually found it a bit ridiculous, to be totally honest) that made all the sex kind of necessary (at least).

What would happen if I lived like this all the time? I’d be horribly needy. A slave to my own body’s desires, helpless to stand up to whichever lover had me in his power.

It was a risk, trusting someone with it, definitely. And the very end of the book and Andreas proving himself in that regard is the only reason I’m giving it the rating I did. *swoon

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Cute fantasy fluff, with a side of omegaverse-esque burning-up-the-sheets heats! And while I did not like Niko, at all, Andreas was my gawd all kinds of sizzzzzling and I very much liked him 😏

Absolute smutfest with a side of fantasy. Fantasy porn?? I’m not sure how to describe this. I enjoyed it but don’t read this if you’re really serious about fantasy or going to get critical about plot and world building. This delivered exactly what it says it will and it does that well. Its high steam, soft fantasy with an omegaverse vibe.

Personally I prefer a more developed fantasy plot and a bit less sluttyness but this was a nice, albeit predictable read and because it did deliver exactly what it said it would, in a fun and engaging way, I’m going with 4 stars.

For a similar premise but more serious take on it I’d recommend Pathfinder and its sequel by J.A Jaken. It’s an older book and much darker but has the similar idea of sex being needed to control the persons powers. It isn’t as fluffy as this so heed the trigger warnings but I thought it worth recommending as I never see it recced anymore and it’s good!

Absolutely WONDERFUL.
Eliot Grayson's latest release is an addictive, fascinating, wonderfully gripping gem of a book: I inhaled "The Royal Curse", and I'm already so damned excited to read it again. And again.

This brand new series by Eliot Grayson brings us into an epic fantasy world where magic exists, and certain people have the (mis)fortune of being born twilight mages. Without spoiling much, there are two types of twilight mages, dawn and dusk, and each of them has a particular "curse" and a way of dealing with that particular curse. And yep, it's through sex.
I think the "sex for magical/survival reasons" is one of my favourite, most sought out, tropes of the whole romance genre. I could literally read this type of trope forever, and I'd never get bored. And Eliot Grayson, one of my favourite authors, finally writing this kind of book? It's a dream come true.
Because "The Royal Curse" is everything I hoped for, and then some.
It's wild and exciting, with a straight-forward but fascinating world-building (with magic, political intrigue, and of course, a royal/guard relationship that's always a must in epic fantasy), and two absolutely wonderful protagonists.

Niko goes through a fantastic character arc: throughout the book, he shows all of his complexities and flaws and strengths, from his crippling lack of self-worth and his helplessness because of his mage status (and I found those aspects so damn heartbreaking; it really made me feel for him), to his quiet strength and steadfastness, and finally, his adorable sweetness and the equally helpless devotion he develops for his guard, Andreas. Needless to say, I freaking loved him, even when he was being reckless and idiotic and bratty.

And Andreas, oh god: I swooned non-stop, start to finish. He's strong and stubborn and self-sacrificing, kind and devoted and commanding, with the filthiest mouth ever. His dirty talk, you guys: I don't think I ever stopped blushing.
Eliot Grayson has really outdone herself with the steam here: this book is packed full with the dirtiest, most delicious steam I've read in quite a while.

< “Oh gods,” I moaned, and clenched around him, and it happened again. “No, just me,” Andreas growled in my ear. >

The plot was gripping, with twists and turns and betrayals, with a few intriguing underlying plot-points (and characters!) that are left dangling in a way that makes me hope they will appear in some way in the next few books.

"The Royal Curse" was absolute joy to devour. It has everything you could hope to find in an epic fantasy romance: all the best tropes you could wish for; a lovely, filthy, forbidden relationship; a whole lot of steam and a whole lot of sweetness and devotion; fascinating magic and a vivid world-building; and finally, a cast of characters that are utterly unforgettable.
I can't wait to read the next book(s) in this series: I know I'll love them all to bits.

TWs/CWs: attempted, on page sexual assault (not between the MCs).

Thank you GRR for the ARC. I received it in exchange for an honest review.

“You feel like you own me.”

The premise of The Royal Curse was a little unbelievable, but a mage that needs to be fucked in order to be able to control his powers?
Color me intrigued.

“Is it treasonous to say I love how wet it sounds when I fuck you with my own come?”

I love how the author managed to uplift what is basically a sort of omegaverse erotica into a steamy but also sweet fantasy romance. I also enjoyed the bits of action and drama thrown in there. Really kept me glued to the page. Not gonna lie, I teared up a time or two.

It was shorter than I would’ve liked — there was so much potential here to really explore Niko’s growing powers and the dynamic between the characters.
I would’ve liked a bit of Andreas’ POV too, just to see all the pining and how much of a love-struck puppy he was for his prince.

I absolutely love this author’s writing style though, so I’m not too mad about the imperfections.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

CW and tropes(spoilers):
- Prince MC vs guard MC
- Magical elements
- Attempted SA on page (not between MCs)
- Virgin MC
- Cursed Mage à la omega-in-heat but make it magical
- Forced proximity
- Size difference
- Strict top/bottom
- Rimming
- Just the tip

⭐︎ 4.25 Stars Rounded Down! ⭐︎

Overall, a great first outing for me with this author.

I really, really liked and enjoyed Nikola and Andreas together. Their chemistry was really good and the sex was very well done.

While slow at times - and a big reason for my .75 stars off - when it got going, it was so good and engaging.

Nikola, the prince, is a "twilight mage" specifically a "dawn mage," which makes life tough for him. If he doesn't take a special potion to suppress his magic, he'll be in unimaginable pain and anguish and is out of his mind with lust if he doesn't get someone to fuck him and fill him with their come. Because of course 😘

And Niko is understandably tired of living his life this way. When he's on the potion, he can't feel any attraction or lust for someone - or he can, abstractly, but his body doesn't stir as it would usually - and he's basically confined to the castle for his protection.

Tired of it all, Niko wants to go to a conclave happening soon where he can learn more about being a twilight mage, and possibly find a different solution than the potion to his predicament.

The only stipulation his overprotective mother - and queen - gives him after giving into his wishes is that Andreas, his personal guard of a few weeks, goes with him and is in charge while they're on this journey. And that if it gets dangerous, they turn around and come straight home.

That frustrates Niko, but he capitulates because it means he gets to leave his luxurious prison and possibly get a cure for his magic, or at the very least, better solutions than the potion.

Along the way, they encounter some obstacles...such as the bag with Niko's potion falling and breaking, meaning he'll soon have none and nothing to stop the affects of being a twilight mage from overtaking him.

Of course, who should be there to help him with his problem than Andreas, who Niko is growing a further attachment to, no matter how much he tries to deny it.

This is only from Niko's POV, but I found it wasn't too much of a deterrent. While I would have liked Andreas' POV, for sure, I was able to understand most of his thoughts and feelings than even Niko himself. Like when he'd get insecure and clearly misinterpret what Andreas says or his actions, I knew better than Niko what Andreas meant to do or say or the subtext of what he was saying. It was quite clear early on how gone Andreas was for Niko, even though it took a lot longer for silly Niko to realize lol.

I tagged this dub-con, because at least at first, it wasn't entirely clear if Niko was feeling attraction for Andreas because of his magical condition or not, and they have sex anyway. It becomes quite clear soon after that it is very much Niko's own feelings and attraction for Andreas filling their encounters, but still. At first it's on the more dubious side.

Also, Warning for SA, and almost rape NOT by either of the MC's towards each other, but later on . So TW for that.

Also, as much as I loved these two and how hot they were during sex, I think a reason for it becoming slow again at some point during my read was a little bit too much sex, or at least it was starting to border on too much sex for me, at some point. These two have a LOT of sex. Like....a lot. Especially because Niko needs and craves it with his magic (well, and then it's honestly just them craving each other, but still...they're insatiable) which is WONDERFUL and I loved the majority of their sexy times, just...near the end it got to be a little much.

It just started to feel like a majority of the plot in this was...sex. We later on get more plot than that, which was fun and exciting and really picked this up again for me, but still. A lot of this plot just felt like...sex haha.

Which, while definitely fun, got a tad too much at times. For the most part, loved it. But could have done with a little less sex, a time or two. Nothing too big, but still enough to contribute to my .75 stars off of this.

Otherwise, I really enjoyed this and definitely recommend it. Overall this was a very good first read for me. I will definitely be checking out more from this author in the future.

Onto the next! 🥰😘

Second read through: I honestly forgot how much I loved this story until I started a reread!! I think I loved it even more this time! Absolutely recommend if you’re a fan of fantasy and omegaverse!

This is the first fantasy story I have read by this author (previously only read a contemporary one) and I’m so glad I branched out and tried this book. It was such an awesome story. This is a high-heat prince/guard romance.

This is a single POV story told by Prince Niko. He was such a fun character. A virgin that was completely shocked with the sort of things he could get up to in the bedroom but with an insatiable need at the same time. It was super cute honestly. I loved seeing him grow, be more confident and fall in love and finally feel like he was living his life. His guard Andreas was so swoony, the perfect romance story guard! I really enjoyed everything about his character!

This book was incredibly high-heat which was great timing after a low-heat read. The side plot was fun but was kind of just there until later in the story when it got super exciting and I couldn’t put it down! I honestly wasn’t sure how their HEA would work out but I’m so happy that it did!

If you enjoy fantasy MM romances I absolutely recommend this story. I’m really excited to read more from this author in this future!

This was an interesting reading journey for me. I love a bratty prince, so settling into Prince Nikola's overwrought and dramatic POV was fun. Around the halfway mark I wanted to give up because the sex had taken over the story and I was worried that I was stuck in a smut based time loop that would never end. The tick tock of my reading goal was what kept me going and I'm really glad it did. In essence, the whole "have sex with me or I'll die!" of it all did read like a porn script, but the sweeter moments between Niko and Andreas made it mostly worth it. Once they finally left the bedroom again (many, many pages later), a few things happened that gave the story some much needed momentum and led to an ending that was cuter and funnier than I expected. The epilogue made it even better.

I did feel as though this came across as more of a prologue or a teaser for a new series than a fully fleshed out story that could stand well on it's own, at least in terms of the fantasy aspects. It needed more world-building and left me wanting a better understanding of the different kinds of mages and their magic. But that's probably just me picking up a high heat romance novel and expecting it to be A Game of Thrones.🤷‍♀️

The Royal Curse is a surprisingly well-written story about a prince with cursed magic and his bodyguard. And yeah, high-heat fits the description quite well 😂

I wouldn’t have minded a few smutty scenes less (they really bang a lot) and didn’t quite grasp the difference between normal mages and dawn and twilight mages, but that’s really all I can „complain“ about.

I’ll definitely continue with the series once the next book is out!

A high-heat fantasy romance with a stubborn prince, an even more stubborn soldier, and cursed magic that can‘t be denied?

Sounds exactly like my kind of book.

An interesting start to this new series

I'm not quite sure where this book fits as it's got elements of high fantasy alongside elments of an almost omegaverse world but without the designated ranks.

The magic system is intriguing, but we only get a glimpse into how it works overall here as, for most of the story, Nikola is without access to his.

I'm not 100% sure yet that I'm on board with the side effects of his magic's 'curse' or with the 'cure' as it treads a bit close to elements I don't like in omegaverse worlds when the characters are forced into having sex to ease horrific outcomes if they don't.

It skates a little close to dub con for me if both parties aren't in full possession of their cognitive ability to make rational decisions.

Having said that, there isn't anything that outright makes this the official way things work, it's just the impression I got from the way Nico is affected.

Other than that, I loved the sparks between him and his designated Palace bodyguard Andreas. It's blindingly obvious he's attracted to the competent authority of the slightly younger man and he doesn't like being so.

This leads into some amusing conversations and situations where Nico does his best to ignore Andreas while simultaneously being unable to.

The situation that leads them into their road trip adventure worked for me as part of the overall premise, but I must admit, I also found the big "dramatic moment" which occurs around the 75% mark to feel a bit out of the blue. There wasn't enough background build up for me personally to make it feel organic.

It ultimately served its purpose of ensuring a plotline came about though, so I can understand why it happens.

Overall though, Nico and Andreas' relationship more than made up for the little niggles and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more in this setting.

Tropes: forced proximity, f*** or die, Royal/guard, forbidden relationship
Feels: 4.5/5
Steam*: 4.5/5
Kinks: very smutty?
Angst: low
HEA: yes
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks/content warnings: attempted sexual assault, dubcon because of f*** or die, injuries, kidnapping

This book follows 28-year-old Royal Prince Niko who is a Mage. He doesn't have access to his powers though because he's a particularly cursed one whose powers are tied to his sexual submission. He doesn't want to be vulnerable or a joke, so he takes potions. But it has the effect of completely obliterating any libido. So he's a virgin, and he's not really happy about it. He wants to find a better solution and there's a conclave coming up. This book is a paranormal romance set in a medieval times so they would have to travel many days by horse to get there. His mother is protective and doesn't want him to go. His new guard Andreas manages to convince his mother to let him go. But Andreas is in control.

Andreas is 24. On the trip, Niko's potions are accidentally destroyed and his only other option to control his magic and prevent the pain and sexual slavery that comes with it is to have Andreas be the one that he lets f*** him. They have intense chemistry and something was simmering between them even before this. They keep giving in to their attraction even once they get replacement potions. But betrayals are coming around them and they are in for a rocky ride.

This was good. I liked prickly Niko and willing to do anything for him Andreas. It was very smutty, they were very obsessed with eachother and had a special connection. I love that they were so desperate that they were making excuses to hook up. There was some great humor in it too because they kept joking about them hooking up being treasonous on Andreas' part and how he might as well go down for a lot of it as opposed to a little.

Some notable moments:

"In the morning I might seek the nearest hole in the ground and bury myself alive rather than look him in the face again."

"“I wondered if you were asleep. Don’t try to get away from me, Your Highness. It won’t work,” he said mildly. “I’ve decided I may as well be hanged for a lot of treason as a little, so you’re not going anywhere tonight. And neither am I.”"

The blinking, and I love that they kept up the running joke about treason. "He blinked, stared at me, blinked again, and finally shook his head, looking more than a little dazed. “Marry you,” he said again. The corner of his mouth twitched. “If I married you, I could do any gods-damned thing I wanted to you, couldn’t I? It’s not treason when you hold your own husband down and turn him inside out.” “Oh, gods,” I choked, as all the blood in my body rushed to my cock and my hole clenched, desperate to have him do exactly that. “I don’t think that’s in the high priest’s homily on the purpose of marriage, though!”"

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

Let's be honest Y'all this book is practically an Omegaverse story, and don't get me wrong I am not saying there's something wrong with that but we could have easily changed Niko's curse for him being an Omega in heat and It would have been the same thing.

Having said that, I did enjoy it and I especially liked Niko and all his inner monologues where very funny to read. I would have liked to see a bit of Andreas POV but it still works as it is.

Overall, this was really fun and I liked it. I had some issues with the magic system. Don't get me wrong, I liked the IDEA (as cheesy as it was) of a subset of mages that can't control their magic unless they get fucked regularly, but the execution was a little strange. The idea was sort of omegaverse adjacent, which was cool, but I felt a little unclear about how the magic worked in a more general sense in this world. Basically, I felt like Grayson spent too much time describing how the MMC felt while he was using or experiencing his magic, but not enough time explaining who had magic in this world, and what the limits were etc. ALSO... I think we really needed a couple chapters with Andreas' POV. Some books that I've read have gotten away with only one POV, but that wasn't the case here. I felt like the relationship development aspect really suffered because we only had Niko's POV and he's kind of oblivious. But overall, this was funny, fun, and hot so I can't complain.

I’d simply have to convince Andreas, my guard who’d sworn to protect and respect my royal person, that the best way to accomplish that would be to spread my legs and use me like his whore.
ARC Review~

The start of another fantastic series from Eliot Grayson!! Humour, spice, and excellent world building are three things I’ve come to expect from her and this book absolutely delivers.

Prince Niko is a cursed mage. His magic is tied to sex so his options are to take a lover and potentially be at their mercy or be very strict and take a potion regularly to help suppress his magic. He does the latter. But when he heads out to a conference where he hopes to find answers the weather makes travel incredibly difficult for his party. His new guard Andreas gets them set up at an inn but unfortunately Niko’s potions got lost on the way… it was only meant to be for one night but despite a seemingly mutual dislike they both can’t get enough of each other.

This is not all spice despite the premise of Niko entering a sort of magical “heat” and I adored watching these two men from different worlds come together physically and emotionally. The ending was perfect and I’m really excited for more in this series!!

I fucking loved this book so much! Yes there was a lot of smut, and it was soo hot! The story was emotional and entertaining, and funny in a lot of parts. Andreas and Niko were just so adorable once they got over their awkwardness and actually showed each other love. The ending had me on the edge of me seat, I was hooked. Finished it basically in one sitting, haha. I listened to this on audiobook and Kirt Graves did a fantastic job with the narration. Excited for the 2nd book!!

4.5⭐️
Fantasy, Paranormal Romance
Series: Twilight Mages #1
Format: digital - KU

This was so good! Best way I can think to describe it is Niko has magic that tries to kill him if left uncontrolled. He takes a potion to control it. If he misses a dose, it turns into an omegaverse-esque heat type of situation where he’s in immense pain until it kills him, or until he allows someone to screw him. So he’s stuck in a “gotta screw or I die” scenario… you know, as one does. Very high heat, lots of adventure/action, and a possessive alpha male type. 😊

Well, this was 80% smut and 20% plot 😅 there was no actual world building, and the relationship felt too forced. No build up, no actual explanation of how the magic works... just "oh yeah I need to be fucked or I'll die" and then they fall in love. Happy ending. It's a no for me.

*I was given an arc for my honest opinion

It promised and it delivered! (just don’t think too hard about the fantasy sub-plot).

One thing: I think Niko could have been a bit more understanding about Andreas’ predicament.

I don’t know why i waited so long to try this author. This book was what i needed when i read it. It was a proper fix. I didn’t know how smutty it was going to be but when it hit i was MOST DEFINITELY NOT COMPLAINING OKAY!!😂😂. I wasn’t even in the mood for anything smutty but it felt right. It was written so well and who the hell needs plot when a prince is getting his freak on ?

Prince Andreas and his hot bodyguard had me in my feels , in my laughs and in my heat🤣🤣. This book was literally so good.. And explicitly smutty (honestly never wanted it to end. Smut so good it brought me out of a slump)

This was sooo fun. Hot and sweet. Andreas had a delightfully filthy mouth. This book is gonna live in my brain for a bit and I really don’t mind 😅
