Mark Tudor is learning a valuable lesson about being a Peacemaker.
With Veteran pay comes veteran problems. And the Guild, more often than not, is the issue.
He’s become an effective enforcer of the law, but unfortunately, crime is growing a lot more complicated. Someone is slaving artificial beings to ships, running contraband across the stars in a fatal practice that marries murder, theft, and kidnapping. Even as Mark’s crew grows, he discovers these crimes aren’t just horrific—they’re common.
And he means to stop it.
Deep in the black between stars, Mark finds an ancient and bizarre place, filled with the galaxy’s discarded junk. And in the middle of that cold, distant void lies a massive ship—one that holds secrets that will rock the halls of power in known space—and turn crime into profit.
Diving headlong into new cases, Mark will find that the elite criminals aren’t scared of a farm boy from Iowa. That professional killers are lurking in the shadows.
But he’s no longer alone.
With Tan, the teenaged tech wizard, and Drogo, whose gifts are a bit more martial, the search for justice will become a little more violent. With seemingly unconnected events escalating, one killer separates herself from the crowd.

The Forgetful AI🤖 Sci-fi Space Adventure🚀💫🔫 Crimes so evil and bad 💥🌍💥, they are erased and hidden from all AI's🤖 memories. Book 2 of A connected series of three books.📚 Should be read in order.
I got this e-book from Amazon📚 with Kindle unlimited. The third and last book in this series is to be published in March 13, 2024.
"Shiver me timbers. Mad Mark and the Metal Chicken, space pirates to be feared."
Okay, this installment of the PEACEMAKER WARS book number two, "Echoes in the Deep," has some really great and humorous dialog between the characters. As always with J.N. Chaney and Terri Maggert, this book is well written, full of action, and witful conversations between the well-defined cast of characters that will have you routing for the good guys to concur the bad guys that seem to be around every corner and in every system behind every asteroid or behind the backside of a planet. Mark, Perry "our Mr. Good Bird" Netty, Valint, Striker, Drogo, Vosa, with the new addition of Tan Tu'Tu battle the corruption within Anvil Dark, the Galactic Knights Uniformed, and against Glass (Mala Jin-Kincade) a serving member of Piraxian rebellion, and criminals of known space. This is a very enjoyable series in which I really look forward to reading each new additional books in this series and hope you will also. Below are a few quotes from the book that I found funny and worth sharing:
"Shiver me timbers. Mad Mark and the Metal Chicken, space pirates to be feared." "Avast ye. The Plundering Peacemakers set sail."
"I imagine he sat back with a cold glass of arrogance to watch us struggle and die. That would totally be his style."
"The truth has a way of being skewed and bent, according to people's beliefs."
The stakes become higher as the masters vie for power
Two of the masters have their own nefarious plans to take over and the Fafnir and its crew, along with their merry band of peacemakers are all that can stand in their way.... One master puts out a kill order for a terrorist known as Glass, while the other tries to convince them Glass is already dead... Events conspire to make the Fafnir crew public enemy no.1 as they uncover the plans of the masters and the diabolical designs of Glass..... Another action packed romp through space with the threat of genocide, much suspense, intrigue, space battles, sleight of hand and nefarious plans are revealed in this part of the Peacemaker Wars, making for a highly entertaining read. Can't wait to see where the story will go next.....
Another cracking installment. Book one got you into the Mark Tudor backstory and this one just delivers more and more (bad news).
The humour between the crew develops at pace in this book and a few snippets below.
"They all worked in concert for a moment— Mark flying, Netty taking out incoming missiles, and Perry providing a steady stream of sarcasm and targeting data."
"Hit it with your toy before it makes the ship decompress and your insides become your outsides.”
“No. Right now you have all the biological functionality of a potato. So sit there in your chair and do potato things,” the bird instructed."
If you enjoy the later books this will resonate with you.
This is series is cut and paste from the formula used on Backyard Spaceship series. Some of the characters are different, but it is effectively the same story, just stripped down. To it's basic components and less sass between Tudor and Perry. I am surprised how little time they spend on Earth, considering Gramps was supposed to have raised a family there. Curious to see if they manage to squeeze some of that in by book 4. Overall, I'm enjoying this series, more so than some of the other Chaney co-auth series out there.
Mark Tudor continues to push himself & his trusted group of honest Peacemakers to dig deeper, searching for the extent of the rot within their ranks in hopes of making a positive change. Unfortunately they are finding more slimy creatures under every rock they turn over. With the abrupt end of this book clearly showing that we need to read the next book ASAP to find out what happens next! Thankfully I’m able to immediately check out the next book, Foundations of Glass!
Well dang, I'm so sorry this is over! These books can't come out fast enough on audio to suit me. Hurry up!
I love the addition of the new characters. One problem leads to the next, the slow romance of Valents and Mark continues to develop, and that thing at the end was so interesting in the way it was handled. Bring on the battle with the bad guy! Seriously, this whole universe is just so entertaining. Can't wait for the next one and Tom Taylorson on audio is magnificent.
Mark was an acquired taste for me. The first book was good and it was fun to meet old friends for the first time Mark met them. In this book I feel like Mark really comes into his own. He's a character I want more of now and I like the arch this adds to the backyard starship. I said it before but the backyard starship series is a hidden gem that I think people will talk about for years to come.
The world of the Peacemakers in vast. The Peacemaker Wars document a time before the Backyard Starship, as Van's grandparents fight to free the Guild from corruption. I am happy to follow wherever the author cares to take us. His writing suits me, with well thought out characters, complex story lines and riotous adventures.
The storyline seems to lag from time to time but picks up and surges briefly forward. Sometimes, it's tough reading present combat from Van's deceased grandfather but that's the way of history.
I've already purchased the next chapter of Mark's saga. I can't wait to see what he does next!!!
ongoing huge character development with Perry Netty and some new crew members, including civil rights for “synths” A bit unrealistic portrayal of space battles but it was a fun read! So great storyline as usual and the ubiquitous cliff hangar at the end Nice read
I've probably written this about Chaney books before, however this book was absolutely incredible! The story was awesome, the characters are new. but they are like you already knew them, even though you didn't. I didn't want the book to end. I took forever to read it just to have a few pages to read each day. I can't wait for book 3 and beyond!
very great fun read, now onto the next in this series
I'm amazed that these authors can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that they never stops writing. Their books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
I love the books! The only problem I have with this one is the cover art, with Mark looking like goofy Bill Paxton with a 70s porn mustache. LOL But all in all these are great books!
On the run in a shot up ship. Mark still manages to stop the bad guys
Time and again Mark gets ship damaged in battles. Still he wins and with the help of friends fixes hos ship and moves up the organization to the next bad guy. And this time billions of lives are at risk.
The crews fight back against evil relying on emotion and luck that carries them to victory despite the odds. The leader of the crews works to overcome galactic evil armed with midwestern morality.
More loops than a carnival ride, and much more violent by far. Ultimate evil takes off its mask and Mark and his friends become hunted criminals throughout the galaxy. Friends become more so as the fight grows.
This prequel series is just ticking all the boxes for excellent sci-fi. Great characters struggling with moral ambiguity but continuing to do "what is right." Keep it up!
I am really enjoying these books. I can't wait to get to the next book in the series and find out where they go from here. I like finding out what the grandfather went through before the grandson took over Netty and Perry.
Another excellent read. This series of books have been one of the best stores I have read in a very long time. I am looking forward to the next book with anticipation. The characters in book are fantastic. Please keep up the great writing and story telling. Than you
Mark has stopped running away and is trying to bring the battle to the enemy, regardless of who that might be. The Fafnir has gotten a facelift and a new crew member with some remarkable abilities. Especially for a teenager. Now on to book 3
As usual Chaney and Maggert weave a complex tale that actually make some kind of sense. The characters are strong, weak, confused and brilliant all at the same time. Keep them coming, always a fun read.
A dam good read where you think just one more line, paragraph ok one more page. That's how you sit for 5 minutes of a quick read and still sat there 20 minutes later and go shugger I am late lol. Beware read and enjoy lol
