Noah Johansen, Marquess Felding, is determined to find a wife. Each of his friends had married well, and for love, yet Noah has not found a match for himself. Despite how much he has looked amongst the ton, Noah has come to the conclusion that he will not be as lucky as his friends. Rosalind Valentine has been in love with Marquess Felding since she was in the schoolroom. She also knows that he will never be hers given her humble background and family secrets. As much as it pains her to watch him court another, Rosalind knows it is for the best and is determined to be content in her position as a nursery maid and companion. Noah comes to realize that the lady he was about to settle for is not someone he wants to be tied to for life. When Miss Rosalind Valentine accompanies his sister to a house party, he begins to see her in an entirely different light. Had he been looking in the wrong place for love? Had she been as close as next door? Will blackmail keep him from making a Christmas Match?

His Christmas Match is book four in A Gentleman’s Guide to Once Upon A Time series by Jane Charles. His Christmas Match is also book one in The Valentine Trilogy. I enjoyed the story but I found problems with editing to be quite overwhelming. There were so many misspelled words and even wrong word usage that I had a hard time focusing on the story itself. I really liked the heroine Rosalind Valentine. She is one of those gracious and loving characters that just gets into your heart. And the hero Noah the Marquess of Felding is quite the handsome hero. My biggest qualms with Charles’ books is that I never know where to start in a series. This book is actually the fourth in a series, but also the first in the Valentine Trilogy. I loathe reading a book and feeling like I am missing out on information...like I should have started with some other book out there. I wish Ms. Charles had a chronological list of books on her website to aid stubborn readers like me who like to start at the beginning and work our way through a series. Having characters from past books entwined in stories is only fun if you have read the books they are in. Otherwise, as a reader, I just feel like I am missing a huge piece of the story puzzle. I am going to continue reading in her Valentine Trilogy and hopefully, I won’t feel quite so lost. I was given a copy of this book.
This is a fun, entertaining read. Noah and Rosalind are interesting, intriguing, complex, wounded, strong, entertaining characters. I enjoyed their romance and the path it took to get to their HEA. They are fun to spend time with. I loved the snowball fight sequence and the scenes with the kids. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. The story is easy to read and get into.
Friends to Lovers Trope alongside Scandal and Blackmail. The premise was good and I liked the characters and their friendships. However, I would have enjoyed this book more if it hadn’t been riddled with grammatical errors. Rosalind has been in love with Noah for years and is dismayed when she finds she is to have a front row seat to him courting another. It doesn’t take long for Noah to realize his mistake but Lady Jillian will not easily remove her claws. I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book gifted by the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed the story of Rosalind and Noah. I liked that through the whole story she was kindhearted to everyone she met even though not everyone deserved it. I was so glad Noah saw that in her as well. Loved Phoebe! Thank you for the copy!
Enjoyable story and characters as usual from this Author. I always like reading about house parties. Good writing style and interesting story.
3.75 stars
My only problem which has affected my rating is the poor editing :- In my Kobo ebook copy there are numerous grammar errors, spelling errors, missing words from sentences etc. In fact, lots of mistakes throughout my copy. They were annoying and can hopefully be fixed if the author sees this comment.
Finally Noah gets his story. A lovely story that has Noah awakening to realise there is more to Rosalind than just a childhood friend. The story had intrigue, suspense, betrayal, blackmail, and, of course, romance. We also get to know Noah’s younger sisters, I hope they get their stories too. Noah & Rosalind’s romance seems to run into difficulties at every turn. I enjoyed meeting the Valentines too, although we had met Benedick in the Trent novels
I'm ambivalent on this one. Both the hero & heroine are charming, likeable, playful, quick witted & intelligent. However, the villain who couldn't decipher a scavenger hunt has them bamboozled & blackmailed. I find it hard to fathom
I also found cont self-deprecation tedious.
Not as appealing as the others in the series but worth a read.
