Sparks #3

The Immortal Rider

It’s time for a new plan—kill an immortal, stop an army, save a city, and maybe find love.

Just when it seemed their part in protecting Kierell was over, Aimee and Jess have been thrust right back into the action. Burdened with a power no human has held before, Aimee is the only one who can kill the shadowy Master of Sparks. But all power has a cost and this one might be taking more from Aimee than she has to give.

With the Sky Riders outnumbered it’s only a matter of time until the Empty Warriors destroy Kierell. Aimee has even less time to learn to use her new powers, avoid accidentally killing any of her friends, and find the Master of Sparks before there’s nothing left to save.

Navigating a city under siege, Aimee will have to fight for her friends whilst hunting a powerful enemy intent on her destruction. But when winning might cost her life, she’ll need to back herself against all the odds and every enemy.

About the author

Kerry Law

10 books47 followers
Kerry Law is an international Amazon #1 bestselling author of epic YA fantasy books.

Kerry grew up reading fantasy in the 90s and found that there weren’t many inspiring female characters, or in some cases any female characters! Thankfully a lot has changed since then but she still enjoys redressing that imbalance by writing fantasy books full of awesome female characters.

She also has vitiligo – a skin condition which gives her patches of colourless, pigment-free skin – and this has been a big source of inspiration for Kerry. It’s what she gave Aimee, her protagonist in the Sparks series. It’s harder for Aimee, because in her world, patchy skin makes her a freak, but we know better, we know that really it makes her special.

Kerry also finds inspiration for her fantasy worlds in the magical landscapes of Scotland, where she lives. She’s convinced there are dragons living among the mountains and lochs. And she especially thinks Edinburgh is the most magical of cities and it’s the inspiration behind her Old Town Trilogy.

The Sparks series is an emotional dragon rider fantasy adventure where an outcast must rise above prejudice, bond with a dragon and claim her place among warriors. All 4 books in the series are available now.

The Old Town Trilogy is a dark urban fantasy set in an alternate 18th century Edinburgh full of magic and monsters. Books 1 and 2 are available now with book 3 due for publication in early 2026.

Aimee now wields a terrible power, one that created the Empty Warriors in the first place and is capable of so much more. The Empty Warriors are upon the city, along with their master, the enigmatic Master of Sparks, and Aimee has to find out what's going on and how to stop the army of automatons before everything she knows is destroyed.

This finishes off the trilogy pretty well, and explains most of what's happening. (You never do find out where the Quorelle came from in the first place, or the origin of their bracelets). Aimee makes choices with her own love life, as well as her identity and as a rider, all while coming into her strength.

This isn't stellar writing, but it's got sapphic dragon riders, plenty of action and a solid resolution.

The Immortal Rider

What a great ending to the trilogy. Amiee is the most unlikely hero. She is born different and always shunned. Yet, she rises to the challenge to help save her city. Aimee and Jess unite with the other riders and defeat the army that is breaking down their city defences.

I'm torn. I LOVED how Kerry Law has finished this series, but I'm sad to see it end. Hopefully, we will see so much more from Aimee and her Rider family because this series has had me on an emotional rollercoaster that I've loved every minute of.

Enthralling

This set was a Bookbub suggestion which I am glad I decided to read,
Enthralling from beginning to end, a really good mix of characters and plot line.
I really hope Kerry writes some follow up books .
Thoroughly recommend this set to anyone especially Anne McCaffery.

this book was incredible, some parts had me gasping.

the main character aimee has grown into such a strong, resilient young girl who no longer let's her fears or bullies control her. the bond she has with her dragon jess is amazing. Just when aimee thought her battle of saving her city was over, she's then thrown into another mission where she gains power that no human has ever experienced before which could kill her! in a short space of time she needs to learn how to use this power without hurting anyone but the enemies.

through each chapter you see aimee face some of the toughest battles, where the master of sparks is adamant to stop her from destroying him and saving the city she has grown to love. with her friends and their bonds and all the other sky Riders and dragons she creates an unbreakable army who all save the city although there is some who don't make it.

can't wait to read the final book!!

This is the best of the trilogy

There's still the issue of feelings, but it's not as bad. I also am a little (sideways glance) at the way the dragon riders manage to have a conversation while flying...

But about 75% in, there is a battle in the heart, and that is beautifully written - well done to the author (thought of a wonderful way to end it, as Ryka and Pelathina are left while the other 4 go to the final fight, and how it could be interesting if Aimee fails....? And Pagrin takes them prisoners)

Am 82% through now... Will try to remember to come back and update

Oh goodness.... 98% through and we are back on butterflies in the belly...

I read this book in ONE day! Read all 3 books EACH in 1 day. Let me tell you, I am OBSESSED! I cried, I laughed, I was angry. Sooo many emotions while reading this series. It’s very Y/A and honestly that’s not really my style but OMG I think this series has changed the way I view Y/A. I wouldn’t change a single thing about this series I loved it too much. I’ll be spending the next few months trying to find a series that lives up to this one and stalking the authors social trying to find out when there’s gonna be more books!

wonderful story

I love these books and when I finished the last book it left me wanting more. I would have loved another book or two on how they rebuild the town and made peace with the other people outside of the town.

A happy ending for her live life but sad for her friends. Such a beautiful story. What more can I say. A sad but beautifully sweet ending. I recommend this story for late teens upward. ❤️💕

Great end to the trilogy

Although I didn’t really want it to end! The last book on the trilogy was so good, filled with adventure, suspense and all that a strong group of women can accomplish. Loved every minute of every book!

She’s only gone and done it again!

3rd book into this amazing series and I still can’t quite believe how much I am loving this! Normally by book 2 or even 3, I’m getting a bit bored, but these books are so full of action and adventure that it’s honestly so difficult to put it down!
Now I will admit this book wasn’t my favourite, but it did make me cry a few times, so that counts for something right?

this series and the characters really grew on me

I had difficulty getting into this series at first but it is a testament to the author that she could bring out details and nuance to truly flesh it all out. A definite page turner.
