For a book originally published in 524 AD, it was amazing how many of the questions Boethius wrestled with during his year of imprisonment are those many still struggle with today. There were several strong statements of truth spoke in this dialogue between the author and Lady Philosophy such as the following: "It is hardly surprising that people regard events as random and chaotic if they are unaware of the planned order of the world. All things happen as they should because a good ruler orders the world."
This book gives us a great look at the ultimate difference between the capricious gods of the late Roman culture and the True God of all Creation. The book also gives great arguments to dispel false ideals and philosophies.
A recommended read for those who know nothing new is under the sun.
We did this for book club, i got about 50 pages in and couldnt really finish. I know many will scoff at that, but whatever! I did appreciate the principles taught and the importance of this body of work. For me, the scriptures say it better and are easier to read. But the good thing was … we had a great discussion at book club. It was one of the best I think in a long time because the subject matter was so good. And i also know about this guy now when I didn’t before. It’s always good to learn new stuff.
