I remember reading one of Elizabeth George's Bible study books when I was around ten or eleven years old. I enjoyed it at the time -- I specifically remembered it helped me realize the importance of not only prayer, but also Bible study, and that the two go hand-in-hand -- that was when I really started reading the Bible for myself for the first time.
However, I am much older now and not the target audience. The only reason I read this book was for Bible class at school, and I just didn't like it. I felt like I was being talked down at by the author and the concepts were just very simple. But that's not the author's fault -- I was just made to read this book that wasn't written for people my age. 2/5 stars, but b/c of personal preference.

Do you know a young woman who wants to learn how to study the Bible? If so, Elizabeth George's new book, A Young Woman's Guide to Discovering the Bible, is the perfect gift. Both instructional and practical, it will get young women studying the Bible on their own in record time.

George begins with her own testimony of discovering the riches of God's Word and then moves in to a discussion of the importance of Bible study and the basics of Bible study. With her encouraging and conversational tone, George shows young women that, as they seek God in His Word, they will know Him more and find encouragement, comfort, guidance, strength, and wisdom. After teaching some Bible study basics, George leads young women to study the lives of Bible characters, like Miriam, Esther, the Proverbs 31 woman, and even Jesus, helping them practice their newly learned Bible study skills. I love the fact that George doesn't just give instructions. She guides women through the process, equipping them to be able to repeat the process on their own.

I also appreciate the way George introduces young women to different types of literature in the Bible as well as the basics of Bible study like: context, observation, interpretation, and application. And the Appendix, "How to Study the Bible" pulls all of the principles together in one reference guide. That alone is an amazing resource for young women to have at their disposal. There's also another appendix with a daily Bible reading plan.

This is a wonderful discipleship tool for young women, and it's one I'll be recommending for one-on-one and small group discipleship and mentoring. Thanks, Mrs. George, for another amazing resource.

* Note: I received a copy of the book from NetGalley for this honest review. However, the opinions expressed are my own.

Here is the news, in case you had any doubt, I am neither young nor a woman, so why read this book which is clearly not designated for me in any way?
Well I have given several young people this for their birthdays, and was going to again, and even though I have skimmed it before and thought it was good, I thought I should actually read it, and so I did.
The book contains a lot of exercises to do, and even though it is relatively short, it could take a while to wrk through everything.
Many of the passages are not gender specific, as the principles behind Biblical study, but there are some passages, such as Proverbs 31, which is given a lot of detail, which are more so.
In the end though this is a great read, I'll try and read the other two tomorrow.

I loved the concept of this book I just thought that it was a little bit boring and slow about getting to the point. But I did like what was taught.

It has been a few years since I worked through an Elizabeth George study book, but I can see she hasn't lost her touch for communicating the truth on an easy to grasp, engaging level.
I'm looking forward to introducing the young ladies in my Sunday school class to their Bibles using this fantastic guide from Mrs. George.
If you're looking for a study book, I highly recommend this author for both young adult and adult material. You won't be disappointed.

This book was definitely exactly what I needed at this time, and I would recommend it to any other young woman who feels as if she needs to get to know her bible a little bit better.
