A Goodreads win for me, and probably the best book I have won from Goodreads.
A pocketful of posies is an intriguing story weaving through nearly a hundred years of American history. In particular it focusses on the hysteria that arises from changes in society such as the fear of the Klan when confronted with progress in rights for black people, or the fear of government at the rise of rock and roll. The story, and I suppose the general opinion (I'm not a student of the era), states that the government feared the control that rock and roll had over teenager and, morte importantly, the fact that control over teenage minds was being wrested from the government. Sorice places true facts (Elvis being drafted into the army, Buddy Holly's death and others) into a conspiracy theory directed at the government of the day. This works well and, while it's unfair to compare Sorice with Dan Brown, does have that level of theory to it. It's believable and does provoke further thought whilst not (to me at least) convincing.
Behind these theories and moving into and out of the narrative is a fine mystery that gradually pulls closer together and finishes in a way that is very satisfying.
