Monstrous Meet Cutes #5

Checked Out by the Chupacabra

Rate this book
CHECKED OUT BY A MONSTER—sounds hot, right?Except I’m not the type anyone ever gives a second glance to, let alone is interested in. The only thing guys check out from me are the books in the library that I oversee. But every day, the same Chupacabra comes back. At first, I think he’s just lonely as he prowls behind me as I work, asking me questions. Then I realize he can’t read. Knowing his job depends upon it, I offer to teach him, reading stories aloud to the sweet monster. Everything is great until he brings me The Tentacle Kama Sutra and Monster Orgasms with a wink, silently daring me to open them—and like an idiot, I accept the challenge. Now the damned man won’t leave me alone. He’s always lurking behind my shelves…Chasing me. Charming me. Cherishing me. It’s almost like one of those monster romances I secretly read alone at night—but those stories are labeled fiction for a reason. Will I continue to hide behind the pages of my book, or will Chente prove love isn’t just make-believe?

Ugh, I just don’t think Wendi Gogh is for me. And it’s so sad bc I LOVE her covers 😭 I DNF’d some of her other books, but finally sat down to finish at least ONE by her, so here I am lol. I know it can seem kind of goofy to expect more in a monster romance, but I have read some FANTASTIC ones that should get way more hype. My biggest issue with these is that every. single. sentence. is it’s own paragraph. It makes it really choppy and hard to read, and not that I’m expecting literary fiction, but having SOME showing and not telling would be great lol. Idk, the author def has an audience and it’s not me!

The story follows Odette, a monster loving librarian who uses mobility aids to help with her MS symptoms. She's also demisexual, meaning she doesn't feel arousal unless she feels a deep connection with another.
Whenever Chene, a large green Chupacabra waltzes into her library looking for language learning books, Odette finds herself drawn to him, fantasizing about the scaled man more than her book characters, replacing the monsters in them with the one that's wormed his way into her heart.
Chene sees Odette and her pink hair and angelic face and knows she's his. So how can he tell this beautiful well read goddess that he can't read?

The two dance around their romance, but find themselves opening up and blossoming into something so so sweet. As someone with multiple health issues myself, I wish everyone that's ever felt like a burden for health issues they can't control would find someone as caring and attentive as Chene. The admiration and dedication he shows Odette in accepting her disabilities without a care and the lengths he goes to to make her comfortable were seriously so heart melting and adorable and I just wish so many girls like me could experience that all encompassing kind of devotion.

It was such a breath of fresh air to see a character with flaws and trauma surrounding it just be loved for who she was so entirely. I love that Wendi goes out of her way to include so many different races, disabilities, and genders in her books, giving everyone the chance to feel related to a character and be able to see themselves being so thoroughly loved and uplifted.

One of my favorite reads by her bc I could relate so heavily to Odette <3

The way Chente cared for Odette melted my heart. She was such a strong sweetie. I couldn't imagine the pain she felt daily, and she didn't even whine! I loved her.
There wasn't much going on, so it dragged a bit. A wee bored, but I still had fun.
The cover and them reading monster smutt together was my favorite part.
Ooooh! And the coins Chente gifted her. That was really sweet.

Let me get that tentacle book they were reading 👀

“Lube is not a snack.”
“And cocks aren’t lollipops, but that doesn’t stop me from sucking on them.”
Shai was so funny I can't wait for her book.

DNF because, while I appreciate the attempt at inclusivity, the medical inaccuracy is a bit too much for me. While you can develop MS as a child, it most often presents in young adulthood. Assuming the FMC was diagnosed as a child, which is possible, almost all of childhood cases are relapse-remitting type. I’m not sure if the author was trying to describe a primary-progressive type of MS with the FMC’s symptoms, but if that were the case then she wouldn’t be presenting this way as an adult diagnosed in childhood with that type. To be fair, I didn’t finish the book out so I don’t know what the author was attempting.

To clarify, I am mostly referring to the times where the FMC describes dealing with her symptoms for almost thirty years. The descriptions of her daily life with MS are great, and I’m sure her sensitivity readers were a great contributor to that. For me it’s the timelines that don’t add up, which ultimately made me stop reading.

Feels: 🦋🦋🦋
Emotional Depth: 💔💔💔💔
Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡⚡
Romance: 💞💞💞💞
Sensuality: 💋💋💋💋
Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑 (I do wish the scenes were just a bit longer - they seemed a bit short to me)
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (I didn’t count the steamy scenes the two of them read from books – but that would probably double the steam count so it might feel steamier to you)
Humor: Yes
Perspective: first person from both hero and heroine
More character focused or plot focused? character
How did the speed of the story feel? medium
When mains are first on page together: pretty soon in – chapter 2 of 31
Cliffhanger: No, this ends with a happily ever after for the mains
Epilogue: Yes, a year later
Format: listened to an audiobook from the library (Hoopla)
Why I chose this book: Another book was recommended to me in our FB group A Love Less Ordinary by this author and when I checked Hoopla for it that title wasn’t available but this one was and I loved the title and cover.
Mains: This is a M/F relationship between a chupacabra hero and human heroine
(Descriptions found at end of my review)

Should I read in order?
I picked this one up alone and found it fine! There might have been mention of others from the series, I’m not sure but this book really focused on the main couple and was fine alone.

Basic plot:
Chente is hanging out at the library because he hopes to learn to read – the librarian that catches his eye is a bonus...

Give this a try if you want:
- monster romance
- futuristic Earth setting? Very contemporary feeling but monsters are here and have cities
- Canadian setting
- monster hero / human heroine
- chupacabra hero
- librarian heroine
- disability rep – heroine has MS and uses a wheelchair
- she teaches him to read
- plus size heroine
- he reads her dirty scenes from monster romance
- dual virgins
- super protective and gentle hero – he researches MS and tries to make everything as pleasurable and painfree as possible for her
- fated mates
- mid to higher steam – 4ish full scenes – there are also spicy scenes read from books the heroine likes – I didn’t count those as scenes here but the book might feel hotter than this because of it

Ages:
- I didn’t catch them specifically but I have a note that one of them is almost 30

First line:
The only movement was the rapid rise and fall of his monstrous chest.

My thoughts:
I REALLY enjoyed this read. I’ve read a handful of monster romances these past couple weeks and this has been one of my favorites. The narration really helped because I loved both narrators, especially the male narration. I found this book funny and sweet and enjoyable.

Our hero is illiterate, and hanging around the library because learning to read would really help with his job...and our heroine is the librarian. This leads to some sweet encounters and getting to know each other sessions...I liked that this was a slower burn – nothing solid between them until after the halfway mark – and that helped build up tension for me and their relationship. I do wish the intimate scenes were just a touch longer - there were a few where I was like wait it's done?? It felt a little abrupt sometimes after such good lead up. But I thought their relationship was super romantic and sweet.

I will definitely be trying more from this author and series!

This love story was fast-paced and easy to follow, but it was my least favorite of the entire series. The chupacabra falls in love at first sight, and the librarian does as well. Besides his learning how to read, there was little character development. It is a feel-good short story, but since I loved the other books so much, I couldn't bring myself to give this a higher rating.

This was really cute. We’ve got fated mates, MS rep, wheelchair rep, demisexual rep AND a blind bestie. Talk about a ton of inclusivity which honestly made the cast feel fresh and sweet.

The FMC is a librarian but not just any librarian… she’s the kind who only reads monster smut. Which means there’s also bonus chapters that are literally just monster sex that she’s reading.

Tiny spoiler: it actually starts that way, so at first I was like “wait, what am I reading?” So admittedly that was a tiny bit off putting but it smooths out and turns into a really fun story.

Things I loved loved about this book: As a Demi myself, I loved all the talk about demisexuality. The MMC gave such dom/caretaker vibes that were swoon worthy. Plus, the “teaching him to read” scenes? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Adorable.

If you can’t tell I loved it. Just a slight docking of half a star for the abrupt beginning. If you want cozy, quirky, spicy, and inclusive, this one’s got it.

This was cute and had so much potential, but it just went way too fast! I would have been good with the ending to this if I would have had more time to get to know the characters and really solidify the bond, but it just felt really rushed. I did like how inclusive the author made this book though. I learned a lot about MS from Odette's character and I thoroughly enjoyed how much I learned about Chente's culture just from the little bits and pieces we got throughout the story. So, I may check some more out from this series in the future. But overall, this was definitely more of a palate cleanser, fun time kind of book rather than one to be taken super seriously.

Wendi straight up brought the magic with this one. It has quickly become my favorite of the series. Odette is a gem! Besides having the cutest name, she is such a great character. She's smart, strong, determined and if course quirky. Chente is a cinnamon roll mole if there ever was one. Absolutely adorable and yummy and I just want to hug him! I refuse to give spoilers but I think you will love the 'inner stories' within this story too. I seriously just love this one so much!!!

Cozy Cute Monster Read

Overall, I enjoyed the caring tenderness found in this read and how books brought the characters closer together despite their drastic differences not only monster vs human concepts but also in their own vulnerabilities.

The book was easy to follow with sprinklings of cute banter and spicy tenderness. Would recommend for those who want a little escape into a cozy monster romance.

I love Odette and Chente, this was probably one of the sweetest monster romances I’ve read. I love a cinnamon roll monster and that’s what we get with this book. The thing I love the most about Wendi Gogh’s book is the amount of representation in them.

I can say with great confidence that I only read this book because the cover was absolutely adorable. I dived in immediately without reading the synopsis and I am happy I did so. What I got from the cover was that this was a cute monster romance set in a library or doing something with the library.

I was right in my assumptions. The female protagonist is a librarian and her and the male protagonist meet while she is working. This was such a unique concept because I don’t believe I have ever seen a romance done on a Chupacabra and so it was very interesting how the author introduced him.

Chene and Odette are both so adorable together. Odette struggles with her MS and her sexuality at parts. She’s demisexual so when she meets Chene and is completely into him its a new experience for her. Chene is from Mexico and has never learned to read but is required to because of a job promotion. How both of them talk about these issues or struggles is simplistic but in a way that the author does them justice and holds truth to people that actually struggle with these issues. I will say it does brush over them slightly since this is supposed to be a short little meet cute type of romance but is well done.

I loved their dynamic together. The tensions were gradual and how they go from friends to lovers is just my cup of tea. I also loved the addition of Odette’s best friend and how Chene calls in favors to romance Odette properly.

I would highly recommend this to anyone that is wanting a cute and spicy monster romance. I will be reading a few others in this series. Overall, I think this was a nice read to lift my spirits.

Gleeful Goblin Review: As someone with chronic conditions (though not MS like her FMC) and who is demísèxual like the FMC, there's a lot of things I wish were easier to explain to others but struggle to do so because there's so rarely nuanced representation in either of those areas. But THIS BOOK really nails it and makes me feel seen, worthy of love, and wistful for a Chente style of supportive partner. Something I love about Wendi's MMC's is that they're all based in Wholesome Masculinity and never get hung up on things like not knowing how to do something. In this case, Chente doesn't know how to read and while he's been able to be very successful professionally this becomes something he wants to learn. "My spoken English is fine, even if it’s heavily accented. I learned it within a matter of weeks, and that seems considerably more difficult than reading. Surely, I’ll be able to master it in only a matter of days. As a species, Chupas are faster and smarter than humans. Theoretically, reading should be as easy as breathing. Which is why instead of eating, I’m heading to the library. What better place to learn the written word than in the place where books are kept." He's unsure and bashful about the lack of knowledge but he's not only open to learning but eager to do so. He's enchanted by our FMC Odette right from the start and his feelings only deepen as he gets to know her mind and her heart.

I was also enchanted by Odette but for entirely different monsterfudger related reasons. In some alternate timeline I would have loved being a librarian and I totally vibe with her from her very first scene and that feeling only increases when she talks about her chronic illness and how she accommodates herself: "Shutting my book with a sigh, I tuck it back into the secret alcove where I’m hidden. Well, it’s not exactly a secret, but ‘Ancient Monster History’ isn’t an area that’s often visited. And it’s in this section that I’ve tucked away a collection of monster smut. They’re behind some very old books that no one’s checked out in over a decade where I pray they remain unnoticed. My patrons prefer more conservative novels with wholesome, clean romance stories. Whereas I want mine to be whöresome, filthy, and full of monsters. I turn my chair and push myself to the front of the library while thinking about what I just read. What would it feel like to have a monster lover that wanted to punish me—that knew what made me tick? My cheeks heat up a bit as images whirl about in my mind, and I quickly try to compose myself. The last thing I need is to appear flustered to whoever came into the library. Even though I read naughty smüt on the sly, I pride myself for being a good librarian....

It’s almost comical how prim and proper people assume I am because of my job and hairstyle. If they only knew the filth that I read. Finishing up cataloging some new inventory, I push myself out of my chair to stretch. My MS symptoms tend to flair when I hunch over a computer for too long, which is why I work in spurts. I shelve books, then answer emails, then dust the shelves, then return to the computer. My day is an endless, monotonous loop of these activities, but the familiarity of the routine calms me. Too much stress also sends my symptoms into a spiral. Rubbing my legs once I’m standing, I sigh as the numbness starts to recede as I wiggle my toes. I have a cane but prefer my chair when I’m at work because it’s easier for me to trip here than at home. Safety first. Not to mention, I can zoom when I’m in my chair. Walking with my cane takes me ages to get anywhere in comparison."

Odette is fully loved and enthusiastically accepted as a partner by Chente and she does the same for him right back. There's focus on how Odette's MS impacts her life and how Chente takes the time to understand that impact but beautifully respects her autonomy and agency at the same time. The story comes together in a deeply satisfying way and I completely fell in love with not just the main characters but also Odette's best friend Shai who I'm sure we will be seeing again. I blazed through this book so fast it was ridiculous and I have no regrets. 5/5 Stars

There are few things more satisfying than a cosy, smutty romance featuring a librarian. One of those things is a cosy, smutty romance featuring a librarian who reads monster fucker books and finds herself madly in love with a Chupacabra.

Librarian Odette, who suffers from MS has given up on ever finding love, filling her time with book boyfriends instead, until the handsome Chupacabra, Chente, walks through the library doors and changes her life. While they are instantly attracted to each other, they fall deeper and deeper for each other while Odette teaches Chente how to read.

The story revolves heavily around trust and vulnerability. With Odette’s condition, she believes she is not worthy of attention or affection, she is destined to remain single and that’s ok, she’s used to it. Chente sees past what Odette feels are blocks and wants the woman she is, not the woman she thinks he should want. Chente’s vulnerability comes from his inability to read, which Odette treats as nothing to be ashamed of and guides him the best she can.

The acceptance and understanding featured in this book is palpable. While Odette accepts her lot in life, Chente goes above and beyond to help, researching ways on lessening her pain, making her more comfortable, and making her happy, showing her that there are ways she can live her dreams. There are a lot of feelings in this book, which I wasn’t expecting. I open a book to enjoy a spicy romance and find myself somewhat bereft, a little blue.

Speaking of spice, it’s good. For such a short book a decent amount of page space is dedicated to some good old fashioned monster fucking. As well as the scenes between our couple, we get excerpts from books Odette is reading, and I need to know, will we get those in full? I’m asking for a friend. I will watch future releases from the author with hopes and prayer in my heart that I get more of that wonderful smut.

I will admit I have been lax on not considering sexy chupacabras more, but Guff makes them more than a little appealing, I think the only thing that would make me stop is the blood red cum, but I’m pretty sure I’d get over it quickly enough when I remembered the spiny cock. Despite the heat, Chente always makes sure Odette is ok, she’s not in too much pain and the aftercare (indeed the pre-care, half hour massage before sounds bliss) is spot on, almost as arousing as the fucking itself.

There’s a very small amount of drama within the plot, involving an accident, but the focus is mainly on Odette and Chente, this is a story about a building relationship, everything else outside of it seems blurred.

This is a short, sweet look into a new romance, where they are each other’s firsts, they really get each other and you know it’s all going to be ok. I think this is where Guff shines within her writing. We’re not getting a story so much as a brief view into a love story. We see the beginnings, the middle and then it tapers off with what we hope is a happily ever after though everything certainly points in that direction. Maybe we’ll get more of Chente and Odette in a book focusing on Odette’s bestie which I’m almost positive is in the works.

If you are up for some heartwarming monster romance with moderate smut but a whole lot of feels, then I would bother.

Book Review: Checked out by the Chupacabra by Wendi Gogh

Introduction

Today I came with another book review. Checked out by the Chupacabra by Wendi Gogh book review! So, I have a secret, I usually only rate books on Amazon with 5 stars, but, unfortunately, this one got 4 stars there. I'll tell you why in a second - without spoilers, of course.

Plot Overview

Odette is a lonely librarian who, one day, meets a patron who goes to the library looking for help learning how to read English. This patron, Chente, is actually a Chupacabra. A green, lizard monster with red eyes and spikes on his back. He immediately gets interested in Odette, who is an avid monster smut reader, and they start going on dates and falling in love.

Personal Opinion

So, this is a friends-to-lovers, which I don't always dislike, however, this time I felt it was simply WEIRD. Chente starts calling what they're having a friendship, and it felt like that weirdo back in high school who wanted to be more than friends but was stuck in the "friend zone" and kept investing and hitting on you and calling all that a "friendship".

Chente is a classic Mexican man stereotype (he's from Mexico). Very romantic, taking things slow, afraid of hurting Odette's feelings (and body). Odette is a virgin - which I dislike AS A TROPE - and starts to get really interested in Chente. And he. simply. didn't. do. anything.

Odette's friend tell her that he's "edging" her, making her wait for a simple kiss, for example. But the author was also edging us, then! And not in a fun way. I was getting sick of thinking: just kiss already, for God's sake.

This is something that I noticed: monster romance is less smutty than alien romance. At least the ones I've read so far. They only kiss after like 50% of the book and there are two smut scenes in total if I'm not mistaken.

I don't know if dark romance ruined my brain, but I was expecting more. I was expecting Chente to be more of a dark romance MMC. To talk dirty and tell her that he's gonna blow her mind. To really shake her world. It felt like Odette was begging him to even touch her, and, that's very unfair, as it's her first experience ever.

I liked that Odette is a very diverse character, she uses a wheelchair, and she's not your conventional FMC. Unfortunately, I think she deserved more. She says she's happy, but is she? She reads a smutty monster book inside of the story (which I like, it's like a smut-ception), and this book sounds hotter and more interesting that the actual book we're reading!

Conclusion Overall, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book. I think if you like romantic slow burn friends to lovers kind of thing, it could be for you, but it simply wasn't for me. As always, in order not to hurt the author (which I know it's controversial but fuck it), I'll rate it 4 stars, but my real rating is 3/5!

Rating: 3/5

It was entertaining and I loved the disability representation but I wanted so much more from this , it felt like the focus was mainly on the smut and not on the romance. Yess I love a consent king but give me more than that , give me personality , give me backstory!!.
I kind of hate the narrative of “I had no purpose till I met you” because that not realistic to me. Yes I know that nothing about a Monster romance can be realistic but atleast give your characters some substance at least.
Like at least talk about family , yes I know that Chente left his family for “greener pastures” so to speak but at least give me in detail how it went and how he learned to cope without his family, like he kept mentioning Chupacabras are very secretive and very tight knit so I know it wasn’t easy leaving the only thing you have ever known to live in a new land , I wanted to read about that or even like more about his culture that didn’t just revolve around having a mate.
Even Odette , what happened to her family ?? They only like mentioned her grandparents briefly then no other mention of even her parents.
MS is a serious disability that you don’t just get , you kind of grew up with , so why is there none of her family checking up on her ??? Yes she’s thirty but that doesn’t mean she won’t have any form of family whatsoever?? Okay let’s say she doesn’t have any family , what about her relationship with Shai?? There was no backstory about that, just conversations filled with sexual innuendos that felt so unnecessary to me.
I had so much hope for this book at the start but it just let me down , I wanted more showing and less telling and I just didn’t get that unfortunately.
I do understand that this was just written for the smut but atleast build the relationship before focusing on the smut , idk 🤷🏾‍♀️ maybe that’s just me

I have been going through these meet cutes and I will say this audiobook was my least favorite of the bunch. I didnt like the female narrator's male voice/protrayal of the MMC. She made him sound very different and not appealing if I am going to be honest. I liked the male narrator and I wish this author had been able to do duet narration or this would have been a least 4 stars. I was close to giving this a 2.5 stars but the storyline was good so I couldn't give it below a 3.

I did appreciate the representation of the FMC and her MS, her physical symptoms and things she needed to deal with on a daily basis based on her health. I loved how attentive Chente was with Odette and how he was so shy and nervous in the beginning. I enjoyed seeing him come out of his shell more and we got to learn more about his body/culture/mate processes and special moments. I thought the little gifts were fabulous. I also thought it was funny about the smutty books they would read together haha. I will say a good chunk of this book was about other couples in the books as Odette read them, and some scenes were fine, some didnt add to the story. I cringed with at least one of those scenes.

I did enjoy the side characters and am wondering if we get to see Odette's besties get her happily ever after with Chente's bestie hahah. I could 100% see their banter/frustration turning into something more haha. their chemistry was great right off the bat!

This one had some good twists and I thought Chente felt like the ultimate book boyfriend but some story execution and some performances hindered it from getting its full score potential.

I wanted to pick this up for the disability rep. The heroine, Odette Bouchard is a librarian who loves to read monster smut and is a wheelchair as well as cane user because of her multiple schlerosis.

The hero is Chente, a Chupacabra. He has just moved to her town in Canada and visits the library hoping to learn to read. Odette is eager to teach him and he falls for her fast. I loved how he was such a cinnamon roll and wanted to care for her, those massages when she gets pain or numbness were sweet and oh how he redesigns the house he is building to accommodate her? swoon.

I liked how the author did not shy away from how grim her chronic condition was and that the hero was just happy to spend time with her whatever happened. He starts to research on her condition and what can help which just added to how much I liked the hero. Odette experiences stiff joints, pain around her body even her eyes, numbness and trouble with her vision.

I found the concept of choosing a mate interesting instead of the usual fated mate trope and this was a life time commitment.

The friendship between Odette and Shai is unique because they most communicate through text, calls and emails since Shai is in the US. I like dhow supportive she was of Odette. It would be fun to see a romance between her best Shai (a red head ranch owner who is blind) and Holden.

Tropes: Cinnamon roll hero, both hero and heroine are virgins, caretaking, mating

Representation:
- Heroine is demisexual
- Heroine has a chronic condition (multiple schlerosis)
- Heroine is a wheelchair and cane user

Odette works at the library, but since most people don’t go in anymore, she spends most of her days reading monster smut in secret. When a large, green chupacabra walks in one day, asking a lot of questions, Odette doesn’t really think much about it, but as he continues to come in, she finally puts it together that he can’t read. Chene was just promoted at his job, and while it was never an issue before, he needs to be able to read for work. When he heads to the library, unsure of what he’s looking at and asking every question to the librarian, he becomes a little obsessed with her, especially once she offers to teach him to read. As she reads to him, teaching him, the two of them form a bond… until he brings her a smutty monster book and asks her to read it. Odette knows she shouldn’t, especially since she can see that gleam in his eyes, but she does it anyway… which sends their relationship from librarian/teacher and student to something more.

This was hot. Also great representation as Odette has MS and is in a wheelchair. I love the two of them! I also have a weird love for the teaching-him-to-read plot. But he cares for her so much, literally tending to her, making sure he helps her get to her car/home even when he’s super busy at work, and has absolutely no problem caring for her when her MS acts up. The spice was hot, the romance was well done, and that moment that she calls him and he doesn’t answer (I won’t spoil anything)... my goodness, my heart stopped. I love these books so much – quick, spicy, and super adorable.

Awkward characters

I'm not sure how to rate this book because it could be someone's cup of tea but it wasn't really mine.

There should be a spoiler warning for how socially awkward and kinda cringey these characters are for the entire book. Not just the main characters, the interactions with the best friend as well.

It was kinda cute at first but after their first meeting, it was kinda hard to watch. It reminded be a lot of cringe comedy like the Office. Some scenes weren't so bad but others I was actually uncomfortable reading.

The FMC was super anxious about every little thing and constantly called her best friend to walk her through everything. The FMC freaked out about literally everything. Flirting, kissing, just existing in life, nothing was too small to freak out about. She needed constant daily pep talks and it was exhausting.

It felt like the FMC and the MMC were constantly fighting between falling too quickly while not knowing each other well enough and they were clearly uncomfortable with it because they walked on eggshells with each other for half the book. I think they apologized and asked forgiveness from one another no less than 10 times in one conversation. It was just so awkward, I wanted to separate them.

Maybe that was the point though? If so, it was well executed. I'm giving the author the benefit of the doubt because the monster smut scenes were good and seemed purposeful.

Arc Reader Review:

I swear I want my own Chupa, ugh, the build up is so cute, yes of course there is spice but we go through our FL that is wheelchair and occasional cane bound, there is no pregnancy in this story in case yall start squawking around. Our ML is like come over here so I can pinch your cheeks but possessive type, one thing that I actually like is the following quote
““S#x is not something you’re obligated to do because we’re in a relationship”

Checked Out By The Chupacabra

* please not I have added the # in case GR is like it’s a none for us *

This is something I’m glad I stumbled upon, ML Chente is always looking out for his mate and asking for Consent, it’s heart warming and gives us or in this case me time to reflect on those words smex is something you’re not obligated to do in a relationship, in my short 24 years (almost 25 in July) of being alive it’s something I will remind myself of, anyways long story short, this is a story that is warm and fluffy and full of love omfg I kinda wish we see her in the future as in a novella like when they’re older, there’s so many endless opportunities but Wendi as always brilliant work!

(This post will be somewhat similar on Amazon when review added will be shorted for clarification)

This was a quick and fun read and a little sad as well but overall I loved it so much so I stayed up till the early hours in the morning because I couldn’t wait to see what happens in the end. Odette is a librarian and has MS and spends her time at work in a wheel chair because it’s easier and safer with the pain but her secret obsession is monster smut which she hides in the library where nobody goes anymore and now there is a sexy Chupacabra who keeps hanging around asking all kinds of questions and then she realizes he cannot read and offers to teach him. Chente is a Chupacabra and while he does well in his daily life but one thing he wants is to read and understand it all so off to the library he goes to learn and when he meets the gorgeous human female he is so smitten and he start coming in everyday just to see her and when she offers to teach him how to read he is thrilled but not only to finally learn but to be close with her and learn everything he can about her and be there and protect her. When he Chente brings her a book called Tentacle Kama Sutra she is embarrassed at first but rises to the challenge and starts reading it which has them both hot and bothered in a good way which leads to more as they fall in love.

MF feel good monster romance with disability representation.

Story ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Zero plot
Spice 🌶️🌶️

Trope
Monster chupakabra
Tail
Different 🐓
Cinnamon roll monster
Sweet librarian with MS
Mates
Insta-love

This was a cute feel good monster romance with basically zero plot and some monster smut. This was more about following Chente’s courting of Odette and navigating a new relationship. Chente is a green chupakabra who is a hard working sweetheart and Odette is a shy librarian that has had MS since she was a child.

Chente can speak 3 languages but is unable to reads so he heads to the library in hopes that he can find books that will help him read. There he meets Odette and they both have insta attraction to each other. He feels the need to protect her and he starts showing up at closing time to help her get to her car safely. She teaches him to read and he finds ways to court her.

They form a mating bond about 70% into the book. It was a sweet story but I am Not usually into insta love stories… at least not for all parties right away. The courting was sweet there was zero angst and only one scare at the end of the book where she has an accident and lands in the hospital.

Odette and Chente are so sweet it's a little sickening but in a good way. Like too much of the good candy on Halloween! Odette is a librarian who loves monster smut. Chente is a construction working Chupacabra. Together they navigate learning new skills, MS and its complications, and a romance unlike anything they have ever experienced.

This book takes slow burn to a whole other level. Nothing aside from some kisses happen before the 50% mark in the book. While I am all for a slow burn it did get a little repetitive as there are truly only two characters and a few phone calls to friends. There also isn't much variation in the way of setting changes. Despite this its still a cute book that kept me reading.

I think my favorite part of the story is the parallels the book Odette is reading make to her own life. The foreshadowing is such a good touch. Then when they share the love of reading monster smut together it goes to a whole new level. The book Chente reads to Odette is wild.

If you are looking for a lot of spice this is likely not what you want. If you want a true monster romance with some spice you have found the perfect book. The book includes disability reps, mates, overcoming setbacks, and LGBTQIA+ acceptance. Give it a look!
