To her horror, she discovers that the only eligible McKeegan is the elderly patriarch, Eion. Their interactions are fraught with tension as Eion is clueless about any binding contract, leading to constant arguments and distress for Patience.

In a surprising turn, Carrick intervenes to assist his father and impulsively offers to marry Patience, despite harboring no romantic feelings for her. For Carrick, it's a pragmatic solution to the dilemma surrounding Patience's unforeseen predicament.

Amidst this arrangement, questions Can a man shattered by loss and heartache learn to love once more? Can a reserved and unassuming woman like Patience find a way to connect with and perhaps even transform the rugged and solitary Carrick?

Their union begins under unconventional circumstances, teetering between duty and apprehension. Yet, as Carrick and Patience navigate their unexpected marriage, they gradually unravel the layers of their own vulnerabilities, discovering unexpected strengths within each other. Through shared challenges and unforeseen moments of tenderness, they embark on a journey of healing and growth, learning to bridge the chasm between their disparate worlds.

Ultimately, their story becomes a testament to resilience, as they find solace and a renewed sense of purpose in each other's company, gradually turning an arrangement born of necessity into a bond founded on understanding, compassion, and, perhaps, the possibility of genuine love.

Carrick escapes after 2 years in captivity to find that his wife had died, leaving his son behind with his family. Then he agrees to marry a girl who had been promised to marry a McKeegan rather than his father, who is much too old for her.
This is the latest in the McKeegan series, however can be read as a standalone. I really felt for Patience, who had lived a terrible life, but remained a sweet, helpful person. Carrick is mourning the loss of his wife but is treating Patience with compassion and you are left hoping that the two manage to grow closer. Things, as normal, never go smoothly and there are many twists along the way. A great introduction to the genre, or one to be enjoyed if you already read them.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Carrick and Patience. The author does a great job developing the story and painting her scenes perfectly. She takes you into their lives with a second chance romance and kept me turning the pages with all the action, suspense, danger and love. She moves the story quickly and smoothly and delivers a terrific read.

A NEW BEGINNING

The McKeegan’s is a series revolving around an Irish family that immigrated from Ireland and settled in Montana. The matriarch, Rosemary, has passed away, but her husband, Eion, and their sons, Aiden, Brayden, and Miles, own one of the most significant spreads.

The story is a page-turner full of surprises, revelations, mystery, suspense, and danger. What a shock to everyone when Terrence Ledger and his daughter, Patience, show up at the McKeegan property. They used to be neighbors until the Ledgers moved away without anyone knowing where they were, or why they left. Now, Ledger is claiming that he has brought Patience to marry a McKeegan—and demanding Eion marry her or he will tell everyone how the McKeegan reneged on a promise.

Terrence: My wife Edith and your wife Rosemary signed a contract and I’m here to make good on it!
Eion: Let’s go inside and we can discuss it. I’m not aware of a contract.
Terrence: Obviously, My daughter Patience was promised to a McKeegan. Now I know you are the only one not married. I insist you marry the girl.
Carrick: You want my pa to marry your little girl? Pa is a bit old, don’t you think?
Eion: Let me see the contract. That’s Rosemary’s signature.
Terrence: Oh, how the mighty will fall.
Carrick: I’ll marry her.

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly in people. Learning what all happened to Carrick and how he was held captive by trappers is heart-wrenching. Escaping and making it back to McKeegan land only to learn his wife is dead, but rejoicing that his son is well. He is still in mourning when the Ledgers show up, but he can’t allow Patience to be married to his father. While it isn’t love, it is kindness and a safe place. It gives Patrick a mother and will help him too.

I love how Carrick is honest but fair. He doesn’t shut Patience out, or mistreat her (like her parents) over her stuttering, and neither does Patrick or his family. Learning what her life was like before Carrick is heartbreaking. I love how Patience loves God and prays, but the story is never preachy. In the end, Patrick calls her ma, and Carrick and Patience find happiness together as a family, and love does abound. Yes, we do get the coveted happily ever after ending.

“I love you too. I never felt as though I was wanted or I was good enough to be loved. You have shown me I was wrong. Both you and Patrick have been the balm my soul needed. You make me feel whole.”

I loved Carrick and Patience's story. Carrick has just returned home after escaping from his kidnappers in Canada where he has been for almost 2 years. When he heads back to his home I the mountains, he finds his wife has died and his son, Patrick, is missing. After spending some time in the mountains searching for Patrick, he heads to his father's home where he finds Patrick. Patience's father brings her to the McKeegan property to marry her off to one of the McKeegan men based on an agreement between Rosemary McKeegan and Patience's mother, Edith. The only single McKeegans left is Eion, the patriarch of the McKeegan family, and his son, Carrick, but Patience's father only knows of Eion and demands that Eion marry her and give him one of his (Eion's) mines. Carrick steps in and marry Patience and, with his son, Patrick, they become a family. Carrick, Patience, and Patrick have much to work though with each other and the author has done a great job writing their story. I especially loved the epilogue. I love the McKeegan family and how they support each other. If you like clean, Christian romance with some suspense, you’ll love this story.

A fabulous faith based western where Carrick has returned home after discovering the death of his wife, and he finds his son Patrick there. An old friend is insisting that his father marry his daughter according to an agreement their wives made years ago that a McKeegan son would marry their daughter, but since all the sons are married the old man will have to do it. Carrick volunteers in his dad's place showing what a kind considerate man he has grown into. He has not had the easiest life over the last two years in captivity. Patience, his new bride has not had an easy life either with her speech impediment. Her parents are a shame of her keeping her hid from the public eye. The McKeegans on the other hand are all proud of her. Highly recommend giving this book a read.

Love this series! A man shows up saying he has a contract for a McKeegan to marry his daughter and it must be the elderly patriarch, the only one single. Carrick, has just returned home to find his wife has died. He says he will marry Patience, the daughter that has always been shunned, hidden, and mistreated by her parents. That begins a story of faith, family, acceptance, resilience, healing, growth and new love. Carrick comes with a precocious son that will keep you laughing and a wolf for a pet that makes a great guard! As expected, Kathleen Ball weaves a fast moving story that will keep you fully engaged from the very beginning. This is a standalone book but you will want to read them all!

Carrick and his son comes home after being in the mountains for years only to find out his father agreed to have one of his sons marry his friends daughter Patience. Carrick lost his wife and has no room in his heart for another but his son needs a mother so he marry’s Patience. Patience has a studder and her parents were ashamed of her and were happy they married her off. Patience loved her husband and son but Carrick would never love her as he still loved his late wife and no one ever loved Patient but Carrick knows she has moved into his heart. This is a sweet romance with two people who need each other after both going through hard times and God lead them to each other.

Carrick marries Patience when her father insists that an agreement made between her mother and Carrick's mother is honoured. Poor girl had no idea what was happening. Carrick has a son by his first wife, who died a while ago although he only found out recently.
Patience hardly talks at all, she thinks that if she smiles and nods everyone will be alright with that. She's totally unused to the way Carrick's family is, there are lots of them and they seem to like each other! Her parents were awful to her, treating her like a servant.
Can she and Carrick make a go of it?

Great second chance story in the McKeegans series by Kathleen Ball.
Carrick and his son are back home and when Terrence Ledger barges onto their property with a “contact” saying his daughter was to marry a McKeegan. Terrence thinks she will marry the widower, Eion, but Carrack offers to marry Patience instead of his dad.
Patience stutters and her family has always been ashamed of her, but Carrick quickly lets her know he doesn’t mind and wants her to talk even if she stutters.
Can they get past their former sorrows and find happiness as a new family?.

I loved the story. The characters and the plot were excellent! I so enjoyed the story and was very happy with the way the story developed.
Patience Ledger was a pretty young woman who was very shy. She also had a slight stutter that made her parents hide her away.
Carrick McKeegan was the youngest brother of 6.
Both Carrick and Patience had a lot of heartache and tragedy in their pasts, but it was difficult for them to share at first.
Danger, drama and a lot of happy times as well abound in this book. You are going to enjoy it so much!

such a nice and sweet read

This was such a nice and sweet read. It is written by Kathleen Ball and is written very well. This is book 6 Carrick: The McKeegans is a very lovely book to read. A woman is mistreated by her parents all her life just because she strutted. Carrick left his family at a young age because he did not like being told what to do. Yet he comes back to his family to volunteer to marry a woman who does not talk. What happens next? This was truly a very good book to read. It was a very enjoyable book.

When Carrick sees how Patience’s father wants to marry his daughter to his father, he accepts to marry her instead.
Patience has suffered a lot because of her stutter. Her parents hide her with shame and make her work as a slave.
It was a very emotional story, and I felt for Carrick, Patience and Patrick. But fate had a way of joining people together that healed each other from their grieving.
I loved this story. It is one of those books that put a smile on your face.

This was such a great story of overcoming hardships and pain of the past through the love of God. As Carrick and Patience walk through uncertainty, danger, and pain they realize that a marriage in name only is not what they want and their love for each other grows. I love that Patrick is the first one to express that he loves his "Ma". This was a perfect ending to the McKeegan family saga.

This sweet romance is a second chance for one and a rescue for the other. The fact that Carrick and Patience don’t even like each other creates an interesting background as well. Add in a smart son and you will be smiling as you continue the next book in The McKeegan series. This book is a great reminder of how God’s plan can be hard but it’s always for our best.

I enjoyed the book! Patience’s father said he had a contract that promised one of the McKeegans would marry her. The McKeegans were not aware of this. Carrick offered to marry her. Patience has raised in an abusive home. Carrick has been held captive for 2 years but has escaped. Unfortunately, his wife was dead but he was able to find his son. Carrick helped Patience overcome her past. There is a lot of excitement in the book. I highly recommend reading this book!

this was a great sixth entry in the McKeegans series, it uses everything that I enjoyed about the previous five books and improved on it. I enjoyed the way Kathleen Ball wrote this and can't wait to read more, the characters had that element that I wanted and worked in this time-period. I'm excited to read more in this series and from Kathleen Ball.

Really Great Series

I've so enjoyed this series and getting to know the McKeegans. A strong group of brothers who are good men. These stories just seemed to get better with each one. I loved Carrick and Patience's story. They both needed someone to love and to be loved. They had much from their past to work through to get to their HEA and it all made for a wonderful read

I enjoyed this book so much that I’m going back and re-reading the previous books. Carrick has had a hard life. I imagine it would be hard to be the youngest with 5 older brothers. This book can stand alone but once you read it, you will want to read about the rest of the family. Carrick shows his big heart with his reaction to Patience and her father. We get an exciting story line, interesting characters, humor, and danger. I fell in love with him.
