Genuinely gobsmacked at how obsessed I am with this sapphic dark fantasy. This book will be living in my mind rent free for years to come.
First of all if you’re looking for a darker fantasy that has a prominent sapphic romance, this is the one to grab. I would say it’s almost Romantasy leaning, just not quite. However the romance gets a good bit of focus (and yes, there is spice.)
Only downside for me was that this ended on a cliff hanger and now I have to wait for book two but I shan’t mark the book down for my own impatience :’)
I bloody loved the use of Arthurian mythology in this. I read a lot of Arthurian inspired fantasy but this has to have been the best I’ve read. It’s up there with my all time favourite fantasy reads now.
It’s hard to critique this because everything for me simply worked. The pacing, the politics of the universe, the magic systems, the characters. Everything is so immaculately fleshed out and vivid.
There were a couple issues with punctuation etc eg missing speech marks, but with indie published stories I accept there will always be a few errors. There weren’t many in this though, that’s just the only thing I can think of to critique about this.
All in all I will be waiting on the edge of my seat for book two. I’m absolutely obsessed with Gwen, Morgana, Saoirse and Merlin.
