As long as I can remember my shadows have whispered to me, speaking in a voice both young and ancient. I have learned to mind them, let them guide me through life even when I do not understand their messages. They whisper now to me, a song of sorrow and heartache that weaves itself around the woman I love. A song I do not want to listen to, yet know I cannot run from. King Arthur has taken this land. Aided by his advisor Merlin and the legions he commands, he has swept over this once prosperous Kingdom like a plague, chasing the last of the Sylvyns into the far south in his quest for power. They have nowhere to run now, there is no further to go and I fear the bargains that will be made to protect them are ones that will haunt me for the rest of my immortal life.
I was born touched by Nimmet, both a blessing and a curse.
Okay. Who gave this book the right to be this addictive? Like, a morally Grey, double agent Merlin? Featuring his two trouble making twins and sassy rook? A badass Morgana Le Fay and her forbidden Romance with Guinevere? Excuse me? More coherent review to come.
5⭐️ I cannot WAIT for everyone to read this book! Full disclosure I’m the editor, so won’t do a detailed reader review—but I highly recommend (and strongly suggest you get yourself caught up on The Wytchling Chronicles before this releases for the full impact 👀)
UPDATED TO ADD: While fans of The Wytchling Chronicles will want to dive into this series set in the same world, you absolutely don’t have to have read it—The Pendragon Chronicles will stand alone!
Well then. I love a cliffhanger but gods damn I hate cliffhangers hahahaha. *insert endless angry nose breathing emojis*
This was fucking excellent. Perfect amount of spice. Plot was paced well. Anxiety was through the fucking rough for… well most of it actually. I cackled with three chins at least 18 times. 15 of them were probably to do with Merlin and the twins or Sirin. I’m angry. I’m sad. I’m shocked. And a bit horny. So yah. I guess I liked it?
I have so many questions that I’m demanding answers to.
I hopped on the C.C. Davie train and I don’t want to get off! Unfortunately, I have to wait until she releases another book! I freaking love this world that C.C. has created. She makes you feel all the emotions in a single book and makes you eager to read more!
The Pendragon Wytch follows two main POVs (Morgana and Merlin). You have a form of magic, conflict, lust, deception, action and more. What’s not to love?!
I actually would like to rate this 4.5 stars but good reads won’t let me (tad rude). I can’t wait to see where this story goes… I have feeling I may cry…
Thank you C.C. for allowing me to be an ARC reader!
Heard this was an Arthurian retelling where Morgana and Guinevere are sapphic for each other so let's give this a try.
UPDATE: oh wow this was dull and mediocre. 😭 The kind of retelling where the only semblance to the original inspiration were the names Arthur, Merlin, Morgana and Guinevere (Gwen). There's modern usage of language and slang but it's not urban fantasy. Real eyeroll-worthy. Also Not Elves- I mean, "People With Pointed Ears and Longevity".
Morgana and Gwen hook up at the 37% mark; let's toss out the sapphic yearning and go right to horny, jealous girlfriends after. I guess Merlin being a rampant womanizer had some use because he takes advantage of that reputation to save women from Arthur's misogyny by "claiming" he wants to bed them. Still kind of wild that the first thing we learn about him is he really enjoys a blowjob from women. The characters were so un-compelling that my favorite character was Sirin the jabberjay rook that can somehow mimic human speech perfectly. Is this a magical bird? We never know.
I don't care enough about anything to want to continue the series. Would've DNF if not for the fact it doesn't feel long because you can skim multiple chapters and not really miss much.
CC you destroyed me in the best way again!!! Oh I loved how you wove Merlin and Morgana’s storylines throughout. There are so many secrets and unanswered questions I’m dying for answers! Damn you know how to make me laugh and feel the love for all of your characters. Looking forward to seeing where you take us in this series next!
This book was a fkn masterpiece and I don’t say that lightly. I can’t remember the last time I felt so deeply enthralled with a book and its characters but The Pendragon Wytch really latched on to me and I absolutely devoured it.
This is an Arthurian-legend retelling but twisted in the most magnificent way possible. Told from two POVs, Merlin and Morgana, we see two different sides of a war that is lead by King Arthur and his quest to kill an entire race of magical folk, the Sylvans. So yeah, King Arthur’s a raging dick and Merlin is his right hand but secretly helping the Sylvans.
Morgana is a Child of Nimmet, blessed with shadow powers (hello Shadow Mommy👀) and made an oath to protect the O’Mordha children, which includes our badass Gwen. This is the sapphic romance of my dreams since I was thoroughly obsessed with Morgana and Gwen in Merlin (the TV show) and their romance is beautiful and I’m even more obsessed.
The plot twists had me literally gasping and crying. I read this non-stop over two days and I could not put it down.
I loved this story so much and I will be hounding CC until I have book 2 😭
This story was absolutely amazing and I struggled to put it down! The Pendragon Wytch is the second story I have read based on Arthurian legend and it’s quickly becoming a favourite.
C.C Davie’s writing is captivating and created all the emotions intended to feel for the characters and events.
We follow a dual POV between Morgana and Merlin learning more about the story from each character’s perspective. We enter a world where some are gods blessed and others are human, causing a divide amongst the people. From this we follow the destruction caused by a King who could not accept mortality and stole a power that should never have belonged to just one person.
Morgana is a feisty, loyal and powerful woman doing all she can to protect her loved ones and Merlin is charismatic, surprisingly devoted and often misunderstood.
If you love morally grey MCs, spicy FF romance, shadow mummy, magic/gods and charismatic MCs that make you blush…. this story is for you!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC and PR Box from the author and Haus of Fables.
Not only was the box itself amazing (fully unboxing on Insta and TikTok) but this book was so good. I FLEW through it on the back of shadow mummies wings.
This is a dual POV, shadow mummy FF Arthurian reimagining and it absolutely nails it. It is an easy book to read and the world building does not clog up the story at all. It’s smooth as all hell. The character motivations make sense and are balanced in a way that even if a character is pissing you off, you don’t feel like it’s unjust.
The romance and spice in this book was BEAUTIFUL. I loved it.
I beta-read this book back in June, and let me tell you that I am SO EXCITED for this to soon be out in the world! CC Davie has an amazing way of creating beautifully complex characters that constantly keep you guessing. Her take on Arthurian legend with her classic queer remix is so refreshing. If you are a fan of her Wytching Chronicles series, you'll feel right at home in Kambria!
OK WOW! I just finished The Pendragon Wytch... um did you have to go so hard in that ending?! I'm sitting here thinking about everything. I loved it so much. I read alot of fantasy and this book was so beautiful and refreshing! I can't wait for the next one! And now I've added your other books to my fantasy TBR. Just ✨️chefs kiss✨️ thankyou
The Pendragon Wytch is an Authurian reimagining featuring our badass shadow-weilding FMC Morgana, a morally grey(and very sexy) Merlin, adventure, sapphic romance, unique magic system, court politics, found family, and delicious spice. 🔥
If you’re looking for a fresh new fantasy world that feels effortless to slip into with characters you cant help but love and a high-stakes adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat - then you NEED to read this book!
From the first page, I knew this was going to be a wild ride! IYKYK 😏
C.C. Davie does not disappoint - the immaculate world building and character development pulls me in every time and I will continue to devour anything she writes.😍
This is the first in the new Pendragon Chronicles series, set within the world of the Wytchlings. While it is interconnected to the Witching Chronicles, (takes place a few hundred years before Helicale Rising) this new series can absolutely be read as a standalone series without missing any important details. I loved the inclusion of a translation & pronunciation guide alongside the world map at the start of this book!
Thank you so much for this ARC, I loved every moment spent in this world and am now desperately in need the next book!🙏
“You are their strength, and I will be yours. I will find you in the dark and stay with you while you break, and then I will piece you back together, do you hear me?”
A adult high fantasy, Arthurian legend retelling that we have all been waiting for.
I enjoyed this book a lot! It has a lot of amazing element that I like in a book such as: - secrets - a lot of characters - 2 sides (plus dual POV) yay - nice smut - Shadow mommy 😏 - Its sapphic and I loved it
It's a character led plot but I have a feeling we get more world building in the next books as well. I do like character driven books but I was a bit lost sometimes of where I was and why things were happening.
Overall very very excited to read more of C.C. Davies books and looking forward to read the next book of this series.
ARC Review This was an absolute masterpiece. But I'd expect nothing less from C.C Davie at this point. There is a very good reason I gently bully people into reading her books, because they are phenomenal. Im not sure what I expected at 8.37 am when I sat down to DEVOUR this book, but I cried 3 times, I raged, I gasped in horror, and at 1.26pm just when it couldn't get worse, she hit me with the plot twist and left me hanging on the cliff!! I also have it on good authority that the 2nd and 3rd books in this series will infact be more traumatic. My inner masochist is currently chomping at the bit to get my hands on them! Congratulations C.C, you absolutely smashed this one out of the park again!
Another incredibly addictive read by CC Davie, this time a king Arthur / Merlin retelling with sapphic romance, spice and heros 🥵😍 a must read imo for any dark fantasy lover
I was already familiar with the world from having read CC Davies other books, but the world building is done so perfectly and is so well paced that you could pick this book up first and have no trouble immersing yourself into it. Love the Easter eggs throughout all of their books..
It's IMPOSSIBLE not to love the characters - Morgana is a fierce and loyal shadow wielding badassss BUT Otto and Una have my heartttt 🙈😍
I was on the edge of my seat for the final third, goosebumps and all - the angst had me PACING. Battles, magic, tactics, creatures and fated mate vibes then an epic cliff hanger 🙈 what more could you want?!
This is book one in a new (interlinked) trilogy from C.C. Davie and I ate it UP!
The Pendragon Wytch is eloquent, full of dark, lyrical prose and incredible characters that make you love (or hate) them from their very first appearance. A dark take on the classic Arthurian legend that I love with my whole heart.
C.C. has an incredible talent for crafting characters that leap off the page, just begging to be seen. She will make you fall in love with a character instantaneously, and she knows how to crush your heart too. This new series is no different, everyone is real and raw and fully realised. The settings are so real, the world building flawless and the pacing perfect! I read this beautiful book in less than a day, I could not stop. We have two main protagonists — Morgana is complicated and full of love and heart. She and Gwen are just aching for each other, it made me genuinely kick my legs in joy. Merlin is also another incredibly complex character with a lot of rich history waiting to be explored, his interactions are some of my favourite.
Mark your calendars folks, this one will take your breath away!
Thank you again to the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review 😊
I enjoyed every moment of this read. It’s a unique story that stands out.
The pace was noticeable to me in a good way -not to fast and not to slow- giving me enough engagement to learn about, and come to love, the characters while also giving alluring 🥵spice and captivating plot.
I also spent a good deal of time trying to think if anyone might be related down the line to characters in Heliacle Rising, so the intrigue was pretty strong from the get go.
There’s some darker elements being whispered and of course war brewing, but what really keeps me is that intrigue. Nothing is rushed, and it keeps that “one more chapter” feeling going 24/7 Hence why I finished it at 1:40am.
As always C.C Davie manages to have those twists you just didn’t expect and characters taking punches that you feel hard- no holding back
Fantastic read and highly recommend to anyone who’s likes fantasy, spice, intrigue, wlw ❤️
This was my first and definitely not going to be my last of C.C. Davie's books.
I loved this book all the way through. There isn't much I can say that others haven't, but if you're looking for a strong FMC, multiple POV's, a sprinkle of spice (queer awakening right here) with actions and twists you won't see coming this is for you.
I was hooked from the beginning, and I can't wait to see how this story continues. Seriously, I need to know.....
Also, thank you to C.C. and her team for the opportunity to read this as an arc.
i had a great time reading this! my only qualm was that sometimes i had no idea what was going on. there was so much info, and so many names that i lost track lmao. however, i’m VERY excited for the next one!!
Without giving too much away - This is the start of a great GREAT chronicle. I loved the queer representation. I loved Merlin and his character. I can't wait to see how far these characters will be developed. Loved this and couldn't stop talking about it. Read it.
I bought this book from Armageddon, I really wanted to enjoy it as I love supporting kiwi authors, but this book was horrible. I feel like I read a completely different book to the reviewers who rated this book 4 or 5 stars.
When I asked what the book was about, I was told it was sapphic, which it is, but in a really bad way. We don't see any tension between the two female leads, just get immediately thrown in with Morgana saying she likes Gwen. There was no character build up between the two to see why they like it each, they just do. All three female leads are literal pieces of cardboard with no redeeming qualities. We keep getting told by Morgana that Gwen is such a good leader and blah blah, but none of them are prepared for war, and they all just run around being like "no we can't let this happen!" Saoirse was the most idiotic of the three at the end, like I understand your brother is going to die but what are you going to do other than die yourself? The perspective from Merlin was slightly better simply because he actually did something and moved the plot forward, Morgana just sat there and wailed about how beautiful Gwen was and how untrained she was. How was this book this long? Nothing happened! The smut was boring because I couldn't care less about the characters. The build up at the end of the book was so disappointing, we don't even get to see a battle, Gwen just surrendered and that was it.
Also, I don't know if this was just the copy I got, but the amount of spelling and grammatical errors was driving me insane. So many sentences didn't have closing quotation marks and some words were straight up spelt wrong.
All in all, this book felt like a first draft of a story that had potential. I won't be reading the next one.
Shadow mommy ✔️ Hot sapphic spice ✔️ Storyline that keeps you hooked ✔️ Dual POV ✔️ Morgana is my spirit animal. She literally tells a man to f*ck off within the first couple of chapters and that's how I knew this book was for me 😂 The adventure and excitement in this book were so awesome, and there were so many twists and turns that kept me on my toes! I will definitely be picking up more from this author.
(This book was sent to me as PR and I'm so very thankful to my friends at Haus Of Fables for the opportunity to read this wonderful book.)
C.C. Davie has done it again! For fans of LGBTQ, Fantasy, and Action this book is a MUST READ!!!
I promise, the only spoiler here is you won’t be able to put this book down! Fantasy, spice, action, humor, and suspense, what more could you want in a book?! The way C.C writes draws you in, and I promise you won’t want out!
5/5 ⭐️ 5/5 🌶️ 5/5 ❤️ 2.5/5😭
Dual POV gives an insight to two conflicting characters. Both characters fighting to make up for the mistakes of the past while ensuring the survival of those they hold dear. Lies are told, promises are broken, and an unseen twist at the end to keep you wanting more!
I can not wait for the next part in this series. C.C. Davie you speak to my dark, shadowy soul❤️❤️
We’re not surprised that another C.C Davie book has smashed it out of the park for me, and I’m about one feral scream away from robbing C.C for the manuscript for the next in the series! Be so fr leaving us like that 😡
The Pendragon Wytch is an Arthurian Retelling, but make it sapphic and dark, with its very own unique style that only C.C can bring out.
I’m really glad that I read Pendragon after I had finished the completed Wytchling Chronicles, because I was so familiar with so much of the lore, and races and spotted a few Easter eggs that has me going 👀👀👀
Morgana- Shadow. Mommy. Supremacy. Need I say more? Loyal, badass, and a character full of so much depth that I can’t wait to see expanded on. It wouldn’t feel like stepping into a C.C book without a sassy animal side kick, and Sirin slaps so hard for that 😂 10/10 would get a bird, 10/10 would be sorely dissatisfied with my bird not being Sirin. Merlin… well. No spoilers here you’ll have to read and find out!
C.C is always bringing in lovable side characters, which really does make the last 25% incredibly nerve wracking 😂
This was my initial download thoughts posted on Goodreads as soon as I finished; Shadow Mommy can GET IT 👏🏻 The fuck was the last 20%? Thanks for the anxiety spike C.C, gonna have to invoice you for a cardiologist appointment at this point. Always scared, always feral for the chaotic and loveable characters I find in C.C. Davies books.
And I feel like that definitely sums up my thoughts 😂
If I’m yet to convince you to read anything Wytch- whether it be the chronicles or pendragon, I’m doing a shit job and should be fired. Or you could take pity on me and do it so I get second hand serotonin? Either works tbh 🤗
4.5 ⭐ I received this as an ARC and I absolutely loved it! I'm struggling to put my feelings on this book into words because my brain is a muddled mess but it was a great read. Badass FMC propped up by other great women, sapphic romance, magic, a brutal world, a power hungry villain and an ending that left me wanting more. It was great to learn a little more about the pre Wytchling Chronicles (also brilliant) world and I enjoyed the addition of the Arthurian storyline. I just wish it was longer because I want more Morgana and Gwen!
C.C Davie is absolutely an auto buy author for me!
